[Blades/Gear Maintenance]Shun had a point, sort of, but as Axel wasn't dumb enough to join the Survey Corps he didn't think that would ever be the case. Garrison officers didn't generally tangle with Titans. Mykanos had a point about bladework being part of the job as well, but Axel only shrugged at the both of them. He had enlisted because it meant steady work, not out of any burning desire to eradicate Titans. Axel tried to move the blades a little faster and promptly dropped one. He managed to step back in time to avoid severed toes, but the blade let out a loud clang! as it bounced off a rock. "Whoops," Axel said, immediately bending to pick up the blade (and avoid making eye contact). That was embarrassing. Dinged blade in hand, he straightened up. "Well, I guess I should move on to the gear part," Axel said, addressing a small shrub a short distance away. He carried the blade over to the rest of the equipment, looking for something to buff it with.

[ Blades --> Maintenance ]
Like Shun, Mykanos' arms were getting a nice workout from the foreign movements they were performing. A great deal of work would be needed to get comfortable with these impressive weapons. He was looking forward to the exertion.
Peeking over to Axel when the loud clatter of his blade hit the ground, a few others nearby stopping to look too, Mykanos lowered his own arms that were giving a subtle tremble from being used continuously in that new format. The basic concept had been grasped, now he'd just have to practice. Slipping the blades back into their cartridges, he looked to Shun as well, "We should all go together." he suggested in his usual gentle, but deep baritone, waiting a small beat to see if Shun would follow, before heading on over to the tables himself. Leave no teammate behind.

[Maintenance]
"Errr... y-yea!" Shakuntala proclaimed, though she was far from unsure. That didn't stop her from pausing from her action for a moment and trying to recall the things she had learned in the class that day. The grip was definitely something she was familiar with, but the blades... The best she could do with them is have them sharpened.
Picking up one of the paring blades and setting it on the workbench, the copper-skinned girl showed her partner how to properly grind them with a whetstone until its dull luster shimmered under the glare of the sun.
"A-after this... And attaching it to the h-handle, I-I'm sure we can... test them out if you like..."
((Sorry about the small wait. I meant to reply yesterday, but forgot.))

[Blades->Maintenance]Shun finally glanced away when he suddenly heard a clatter on the ground. Turning, he saw that Axel had dropped one of his swords. He was about to shrug it off and continue with his practice, but it seemed that his little group was ready to move on to the next part. Letting out a breath, he nodded to Mykanos as he lowered his blades. He rolled his shoulders lightly while he quietly followed along to the maintenance area. While he sat at the same table as the others, he did give himself a good buffer as far as space went. He reached for the oils and a rag, deciding to clean the blades first.

[Maintenance]Farvardin nodded hearing Tala's affirmative but kept her focusing on her handles. She put the new grips on and then put them back together. Once that was done she looked up with a grin. She did it! Well at least she thought she did. It was staying together so it must be right. She watched how the other girl sharpened the blades and then began working on her own. Hearing the stammered sentence she looked up. "Hm.. yeah my gear should be fine for practicing the blade work. After all we're not going to be flying around at the same time." She finished one blade by now and began sharpening the next. After a little bit the two blades were done. She put them back in the cases and looked at Tala. "Ready to do some blade work?" She asked seeing another group coming over after they were done practicing with the blades, "Looks like some are done already." ((That's fine. I'm not in that big of a rush))

[Blades]Alec had stood in line, watching Santos as he showed off his dual wielding skills. Each slash, while some looked a bit complicated earned a curious look from the red head. Once it was time to pair up, he recognized without fail the small dark haired girl he'd befriended over the weeks. "Hey Lenore, shall we begin?" He waved to her, before taking in hand his two blades. So they didn't have a target, they could still get a decent feel for how to use the weapons in the mean time at least. The blades were heavy in his hands, and required him to test the weight with what was comfortable. Alec posed himself, trying to work on his form, giving the blades a few experimental slashes, careful of his training partner at least. It was strange to have such a dangerous tool in his hand, this of course he kept to himself, waiting to see how the other trainee handled her weapons. Of all the things he'd done so far, sword fighting was not something he was exactly comfortable with..he'd have to practice and be mindful not to cut himself.

[Blades]Lenore also watched Santos show off his skills, with mild disinterest. Part of her understood she should probably be paying more attention, but another, spiteful, part of her didn't really care to pay any attention to Santos. And then he was done, and she was assigned a partner in the form of the red head she had dunked countless times during the festival. Giving a slight wave back to Alec, she nodded at his question. "Sure." Picking up the twin blades, she tested the weight a few times, slightly surprised at how light they were, considering. Holding one of them out before her, she gave it a few slashes through the air - up and down, up and down. Tilting her head, she looked at the blade in her hand curiously. Crouching down, she set the blade in her left hand down on the ground before touching a finger to the edge of the one in her right. Sure enough, blood began to pool on her finger - they weren't dulled, and were in fact extremely sharp. Standing back up, she stuck the bleeding finger in her mouth to help it heal.

[Blades]Flexing his fingers some as he crossed the two sword points, briefly testing what a quick slash was like using both in a vertical motion, also gauging how to swing both blades at different times. He gave a quick downward slash in which he moved with the motion. The weight of the weapons, along with the rectangle sheathes they carried with their gear was a comfortable weight Alec realized, one he could get used to. Even if they would have to pack up their gear after they were done with this part of the exercise it wouldn't be forever he reasoned. However, just like that he realized his companion had managed to injure herself, his internal daydreaming forgotten brought back to the here and now. Without fail, Alec expressed his concern for her in his paused actions. "Are you alright?" His brow furrowed with concern. Alec's attention switched from his own blades onto Lenore. "If it's still bleeding after we practice, I'll help you with that. Especially before we start trying to adjust gear, and make repairs to the gear anyway." He smiled gently at her, holding his twin blades at his side as they spoke for the now.

[Maintenance]Wiping the blades down was easy enough. Sharpening the one he had dinged on the ground was another matter. Thinking back to his lessons with Gazelle, Axel propped the blade up on a block of wood on the table and used a metal file on the edge, working until the ding had almost disappeared. The sound of the metal file on the blade was pretty cringe-inducing, but Axel persevered. Setting down the file and taking a whetstone, Axel oiled the surface of the blade and passed it over the whetstone in slow, even strokes until the sword was cleaned and polished. He hunched over it, examining its surface carefully. No trace of the ding remained. Even Gazelle would be happy. Probably. Pleased with his efforts, Axel looked over at Shun and Mykanos to see how they were doing. They both seemed more comfortable with the swords than he was. He wondered where they were headed. "So, which branch are you guys looking at?"
Shun and Mykanos were both in his dorm, but it occurred to him that he didn't know either of them well. They were both the strong, silent type, tending to keep their thoughts to themselves.

[Blades]Lenore looked up at Alec as he expressed his concern. Pulling the finger from her mouth, she nodded. "I just wanted to see if it was sharp." She paused, looking down at the small cut. "It is, by the way." Blood began to pool on her finger again, and the twelve year old tilted her head at it in what was probably confusion or awe or a mixture of the two. "Fingers bleed a lot." She remarked, looking back up at her partner before planting the wounded appendage back into the confines of her maw. Nodding at Alec's offer, she picked up the other blade and stepped away a bit before lifting both weapons and holding them at arm's length to her sides. She then spun around, very slowly, checking to make sure she wouldn't be able to hit anything. Satisfied that she probably wouldn't, she took a few more practice swings before moving on to faux hacking and slashing an imaginary titan.

[Maintenance]
Placing the large cartridges onto the table, Mykanos moved them around a little to get a look at each side. Such an odd contraption this was... Not being as up to date with most current technology, just about everything was fascinating to the mountain born youth. Looking to his 3DMG motor, and then the pieces of parchment that held directions on the bench, he decided he'd take a crack at opening up the vital portion of their gear. After all, Gazelle had said thorough inspections were a must after each use, to make sure nothing was wrong. But once he'd opened it up... it was like a puzzle and a maze sort of combination. He... had no idea what anything was, or what to do.
Staring blankly at it all, he would slowly look from paper to the contraption, and back again, carefully unwinding or screwing off pieces here and there, inspecting those intently, before moving onto the next section.
Glancing to his partners for some sort of idea as to what they were doing, he realized they were on different portions of their gear; them the blades, he the weird back thingy, that held all the wiring. But he continued tinkering away, quite used to figuring things out on his own, at a slowed pace. Axel's question did make him look up though, after another very delayed beat, as though waiting for Shun to respond first. But it was also because he needed to really give that question some heavy thought. Which branch was he looking at.... Considering all of them, he responded casually as usual, "Survey Corps, I guess." He wanted to be of use, and that seemed like the area he'd be most useful for. Being so socially inept, he wasn't sure he'd do well in the other branches that were surrounded by people all the time, everyday.

[Maintenance -> Blades]
Shakuntala drew a finger near the edge of the blade, but not exactly on it. Just the slight sting of the blade without the draw of blood informed her that, yes, this could slice a titan's nape with a quick arc of the blades. Turning to Farvardin and then her attention to the group that had finished their training, she raised her brows in slight surprise. What timing.
"O-okay, let's... go," she said with a nod, leading the way to the open area to replace the group that was recently there.
Shakuntala stopped just before a wide enough area where the blades wouldn't nick the surrounding area and most importantly, Farvardin. She mimicked Baldy's stances on the ground before taking to the air. Her first two poses with the blades were okay, but the third caused her to sway on her feet and nearly stumble to the floor. Letting out a breath in relief, she was glad to not have fallen straight on the blades she wielded. She had a little longer to live, after all.

[Maintenance]Diligently, Shun took the time cleaning his blades. It didn't take too long to do just that, given how they didn't really get dirty in the first place. Once he was satisfied with that, he glanced up at the instructor as she showed how to dismantle the gear for purpose of checking it up. He watched for a bit, then went on to do the same at his own pace. The instruction slip was ignored for the most part. "Survey Corps," he stated calmly in response to Axel's question. It was something he had decided awhile ago, when he had first been enlisted. His gaze shifted towards Mykanos briefly, as he heard his answer as well. Another prospective for the scouting legion, it seemed.

[Maintenance --> Blades]Farvardin followed after Shakuntala. She made sure there was enough space between them and the other group still practicing. She watched the more timid girl and nodded. "Pretty good for a first try.... or at least I think so." She said with a grin. She then held her blades loosely at her sides before taking up the first pose. She would do the stances on the ground for a bit before worry about taking it up in the air. She slashed the blades in the movements that Baldy had showed them. A few times she had to stop or slow down to work on how to do the move properly. After a few times of that she stopped and groaned. "Oh man... what a work out. My arms are not used to moving like this."

[Maintenance]Axel looked at Mykanos and Shun curiously as they both announced their intention to join the Survey Corps. It wasn't his place to say anything negative, but it troubled him all the same. He didn't know why anyone would voluntarily join the Survey Corps. It just seemed stupid. And pointless. Only people with death wishes joined the Survey Corps. Well, people with death wishes and idealists. Axel didn't think either of his two fellow Falke dudes were idealists, nor did he think they were stupid. Maybe they just really hated Titans. "Oh," Axel said, unable to think of any other comment. "That's interesting." He returned his attention to his work, running a small piece of sandpaper along the edge of the blade to complete the polishing job. Not his place to say anything, nope.
