Ahh ********. Yevalee thought taking a deep breath and threw himself to the side, tucking himself in a neat duck and roll and when he finally stopped, kept himself curled in a ball of limbs till he was sure she wasn’t going to take a bit out of something he needed. Like his liver.

…right. There was still a charging green roaming around the place. He should… get his butt off the sands. Which would begin with getting his butt off the literal sand. “A’right, you, get off, you’re heavy,” he grumbled good-naturedly at Blyth, giving her shoulder a little push until she clambered off him.

Blyth bounded away, circling Seytev once, peering up into his face and warbling happily at him before returning to her rider’s side as he rose to his feet, brushing sand off himself. I’m hungry, Bakarn. We should go get some food while we’re waiting for everyone else. He reached down and scratched her eyeridges, feeling the pulse of hunger in his belly through the bond – oh that was a weird feeling, even though he’d been expecting it from years of lessons about what happened when you first Impressed.

But it was… he couldn’t leave, could he? Not when people were getting hurt?

Bakarn knew where his duty lay: he had to feed his new-hatched dragon and care for her. He also knew where his duty lay: he had to keep his friends safe. Momentarily torn in two, he gave his friend a look that silently asked permission to go – that was all he needed, a word that said it was all right, that he wouldn’t be abandoning his –

“Catch up soon, Sey?”

Hopefully the smaller green was alright, lying on her back she didn't seem to be getting up. Maybe she was just shocked at getting her bearings back, Vanavia was a fair distance, but she didn't look like she was in pain. That would have been upsetting if the other green had actually hurt her sister. Was it considered worse if a dragon left with an injury than is a candidate did? Either way someone was hurt, but dragons were in shorter supply, she supposed. What was that boy doing? A lad appeared to be distancing himself from the group and approaching the downed green. Risky choice. Hopefully nothing would happen to him either.

It seemed her worry was unfounded as the boy broke into a grin and pounced the dragon? The two seemed to devolve into a cuddling mass and Vanavia found herself smiling at the sight. They were both so happy. Perhaps being bonded to a dragon wouldn't be so bad if being together could make a pair so happy. It was such a sweet sight, it even felt a little rude to watch it, such a personal moment for both of them. Vanavia didn't know the boy, but she didn't know any of them really. They were squires after all and not like they were in her classes. Really she should try and learn these people's names. She'd been here long enough.

At least the other candidates all seemed no worse for wear. Hopefully that would be the only tussle and the Roar would find her rider soon. More eggs looked to be joining the fray. A colourful egg rocked and shook, but was beaten to the post by an egg Vanavia hadn't even seen move. The newly hatched dragon seemed far less energetic than his two sisters. His method of taking stock of everything before going anywhere seemed like a good one. That was one set of wings. They seemed much larger than the green's had been, but maybe that was normal? Well he was on the move and looked like he knew exactly what he was up to. Hopefully that other egg would get out soon.

It was getting hard to keep track of them, even though there were now only two unbonded dragons on the sand. Vanavia could barely imagine what it must be like down there in the thick of it. There was that weird call again from Roar, perhaps if she heard the other dragons make noises too then Roar's call wouldn't sound so strange to Vanavia. That might be what all hatchlings sound like. And she was charging again. Given her past fake outs Vanavia wasn't too worried, as long as nobody interfered, that seemed to be where it all went wrong last time.

Vanavia jumped as someone fell into the seat beside her, clearly too involved in her own thoughts. Straightening up, she'd not even noticed she'd been leaning forward so, she smiled at Aeglentine. "Well, we've had three hatch, two greens and a blue, and one impress, the second green. The greens had a bit of a tussle, but it looks like no one was hurt too bad." Vanavia glanced at the clutch after her brief summary. Not knowing the name of the boy who had impressed. "A boy impressed. Just there," she said pointing to the pair, since she couldn't name him.

Yeah, it was pretty much impossible to be sad at all about your friend Impressing when his dragon was bouncing over to you, circling you, and making tiny adorable dragon noises at you. When Blyth came over, Seytev reached a hand down, brushing it just briefly against her headknobs before she headed back to her rider (Faranth, Bakarn was a rider now, wasn't he?). And then Bakarn was walking over, and Seytev grinned at him. "Congrats," he said quietly. "She's beautiful."

And he meant it.

And then Hear Me Roar charged someone...again, and Seytev jumped a little, turning to face her before he glanced over his shoulder at Bakarn. He recognized the look, the tacit permission-asking. "Go ahead, 'Karn," he said softly, flashing a momentary smile that faded as he took a few steps toward Yevalee. "We'll manage out here okay, I'm sure."

It probably wasn't the response Bakarn would have preferred to his question (and to be honest, Seytev wasn't entirely sure how 'soon' they'd be catching up, but he'd let those nerves get the better of him when he didn't need his faculties to prevent himself from getting chewed on by baby dragons), but it was a decent one.

...And then a flash of blue out of the corner of his eye attracted his attention, and Seytev turned to look at the newcomer. When had - when had he hatched? Which egg was he from? He cast about quickly, trying to find the shards of the egg from which the blue had emerged. With half the clutch already hatched, it was easy enough to work out who was left. Which meant...was it - was it the grey one, the one that had seemed both approving of him and incredibly cynical? That egg had been...comfortable, even if not necessarily friendly.

And he didn't seem to be mauling anyone yet. So that was a good sign.

Hear Me Roar braked at the last moment - and then clambered on top of Yevalee, the large green using him as a platform to play King-of-the-Castle, roaring squeakily at the Commander from her stance on top of the candidate. She had to spread baby wings to keep her balance, tail extended to its furthest extent and jaws snapping.

Oww and greattttt. Yevalee huffed, keeping still and glad it was sand and not something that would refuse to give as she climbed on him. Better then getting maued but she had talons and weighted quite a bit. She wasn't being overly aggressive thankfully but ughh... he did no approve of this one bit.

Well he wasn't in bleeding pieces, but Kidder was perfectly ok with the choice Roar had made regarding the vain, lazy trader. Someone that useless should be a piece of furniture much more offten, especially if it was this funny... Even if it was hard not to burst into loud, inapropriate laughter.

"Ok I feel a lot more shaffing dignified compared to that" he noted wickedly to Al beside him. "I -like- her."

“Bakarn - that’s Bakarn. Um. I think?” Aeglentine filled in, leaning forwards to watch - and then covering her eyes at the sight of the dragon climbing on that boy, because she couldn’t lookandshedidn’tknowwhoitwasandohno! “Oh, Faranth, tell me when it’s safe to look”

Oh, shards, she was going to have to do this someday, and that thought was terrifying.

Deruvene watched the dragon climb on the boy with a panicked huff, looking at them both with an unhappy frown. "Please get off of him, you're playing too rough." He mumbled and shook his head. That dragonet would hopefully calm down after a bit. But until then she was gonna be a terror he supposed.

When pale patchy Roar flattened and climbed atop a candidate The Commander halted, dull grey eyes flashing to dull orange as he let out a low growl of warning. When this seemed to have no effect however he started to move forward again but this time it was no deliberate plod; this was a charge. Legs pumping, wings spread a little for balance, he bore down upon Hear Me Roar. A few yards back from her he leapt, aiming to tackle her off her hapless victim.

Roar squealed defiance, digging her claws hard into Yevalee for grip, wings spread and hunkering down so that her centre of gravity was low… meaning that when she was hit by the Commander it took a serious amount of force to knock her off, her claws dragging through his flesh as she was propelled backwards.

The Commander remained quiet as he knocked his sibling off the candidate she had been using as podium, apparently focusing on trying to pin her down. The force involved in his tackle however sent them both tumbling in a rather less friendly replay of Roar and Lashings' earlier play, tumbling directly towards Deruvene in fact.

"Well, she's not actually hurting him, so that's a start," mused Alcine, whose posture relaxed somewhat once she realized that the boy wasn't about to get shredded. The danger was still there, of course, but only if he was careless or she forgot about her living podium. Unlike Kidder, Alcine had no personal qualms with Yevalee, so she took no revelry in his misfortune, but now that it looked like he was in the clear for a moment she set her sights on the restive blue. How would he react, when issued such a challenge?

It would seem he was no pushover, and Alcine only had a second to comprehend what was about to occur before the Commander slammed into Hear Me Roar, tumbling into another battle of contested wills. Nevermind, then, to her previous assessment: Yevalee was about to get thoroughly shredded, if he wasn't already. Alcine looked for his body among the pair, watching for blood on the Sands.

"...We might need that Healer now," she called out to whomever would listen.

Credit the attemp purely for the benefit of his verbal sparring partner that Kidder made any attempt at all to try and drag not only Al but Deru out of harms way, or at least that he made a reach. The success of which relied heavily on factors like the speed of the dragons and what the other two decided to do.

Yevalee's problems were his own, though Keralder spared a flash of smug self amusement that the trader boy might, given how he tried to frame other things, attempt to excuse his future scars as the result of a different sort of passion. Interesting that Commander had chosen then to act however. He wouldn't have called it. But maybe such an dragon was what such a... Person... As Yev needed to pass muster as a Rider...

"Let's spare him some work..." He suggested of the healer, hoping they could avoid the collision

Her gaze followed the dragons, tumbling forward into Deruvene, and she stiffened in fear, not for herself but for the talkative boy. She stepped forward, as if to intervene, but was cut off by Kidder's grasp, which was probably for the best. The two dragons went barreling past her, barely an arm's length away, leaving her in a cold sweat despite the heat.

"...Thanks," she finally murmured.

“You are so blood thirsty,” Brishen teased, relaxing to watch. Maulings happened, couldn’t blame the dragonet for that and it wavered on the candidates. Some of them did stupid things. And then there was the siblings trying to be helpful damage. Like now.

“Shard it.” There was blood and it could have been avoided. “That going to leave scars.”

A slight smile appeared as the green used the boy for a podium. It wasn't kind of her to smile and Vanavia hid it behind her hand. Really she should be concerned, but the sight of the green trying to keep her balance using a human as a stand was slightly funny. Her viewing partner though clearly did not agree in the slightest.

Her smile quickly faded though as the blue charged and the green adopted a defensive stance. Oh no, this was definitely not good at all. She sucked in her breath as the two collided and the green was forced off, she looked like she had been holding on very hard and Vanavia worried for the boy on the ground. As well as any that should get in the way of the two.

"It is not in the least bit safe to look..."
