Room 15 First die: If the number is 1, you encounter a Gaili dragon. If the number is 2, you encounter an Aedaun dragon. If the number is 3-4, you encounter a Diabi dragonSecond die: If the number is 1-2, nothing happens and you fight as normal. If the number is 3, this dragon, if defeated, drops double orbs! (So two for each participant.) If the number is 4, the room is filled with spiders and webs instead of a dragon. After all the chilly rooms, this room almost seems like a sauna as you step into it. The air is warm and the floor is once more just damp instead of icy. From this point, treat as a normal dragon hunt and every participant rolls to see what the result is. If you win, do you: A) Move deeper into the cave? Roll 2 4-sided dice and go to "Room 16" B) Move closer to the entrance? Roll 2 4-sided dice and go to "Room 14"C) Leave? Go to "Exit" Ara grinned as she caught the tossed orb. “Thanks.” A warm feeling bubbled up in her chest at the compliment. It wasn’t often she had gotten compliments on her magic. Even her best friend, when she’d told her she had picked ayrala as her clan, had poked fun at her. She had practiced alone most of the time, unwilling to let someone prove to her that her magic was weak. Ara had improved, though and now she was taking on dragons she never thought she would be able to. Her skills had grown and she had developed the power of her magic into what it was today. In that moment, with that compliment, she was proud of her clan. Of herself. She moved past Detra, giving him a small smile as she stashed away the orb. As she disappeared into a tunnel, a wave of heat swept over her. As if, abruptly, the icy cold air had died out and was replaced by a sauna. Sweat beaded on her forehead as the ice on the floor became nothing but puddles. As she stepped into the cave something caught in her hair. As she reached up, she froze. Sticky webs clung to her fingers as she let out a panicked sound and stepped back slightly. As her eyes adjusted to the cave’s darkness, she shuddered. It was covered in webs and in those webs were spiders. “I…no, no, no. Why?”

Detraeus stilled as Araceli tensed, and frowned as he watched her panic, fear tensing up the whole of her body. While he didn’t understand this fear specifically, he understood what it meant to be crippled by a thought — irrational or not — and grimaced, stooping to draw a small string from one of his waist pouches and attach a nearby pebble to its end. Like a weighted spike-ball on a chain, he swung the pebble and string in a quick circle formation and stepped forward, clipping back the webbing like nothing in its wake. Thankfully, all the critters were tiny — little beasts, not even enough to fill the end of his thumb, and the sticky white strings came down with barely a whisper.
He cut a full path through the darkness and over the puddles, easily wide enough for both he and Araceli to cross before he made his way back to her. “Come,” he murmured, cutting his thread with a knife and tossing the spider and web-heavy string and ball out into the murk. “Follow. The path’s clear.”

Room 14 First die: If the number is 1-2, you encounter a Gaili dragon. If the number is 3, you encounter an Aedaun dragon. If the number is 4, you encounter a Diabi dragonSecond die: If the number is 1, a sudden rock slide closes off the entrance to this room as you enter. You can no longer chose to move closer to the entrance and instead must either move deeper into the cave or leave. [If you have already had this rock slide happen, nothing happens.] If the number is 2-3, nothing happens and you fight as normal. If the number is 4, the ice cracks and you find yourself in icy cold water up to your knees! Your luck chance is decreased by 20%. [If your normal luck range is 61-100, it is now 81-100.] A brisk wind seems to come from nowhere to run through this room, leaving the floor coated in a thin layer of ice that cracks under your feet as you walk. Luckily, a few large boulders stick up out of the icy area, though navigating the room on them alone will be tricky. From this point, treat as a normal dragon hunt and every participant rolls to see what the result is. If you win, do you: A) Move deeper into the cave? Roll 2 4-sided dice and go to "Room 15"B) Move closer to the entrance? Roll 2 4-sided dice and go to "Room 13" C) Leave? Go to "Exit" Ara jerked to attention when Detra was back in front of her. She had to blink her eyes a few times to bring him back into focus. She nodded her head curtly as she followed after him, staying as close as she could to him, without touching him. She jumped as a stray piece of webbing floated down onto her shoulder, instincts yelling at her to reach out to Detra. Instead, she brushed the web off and clutched her hands in front of her chest, willing herself to keep moving. As they entered into the next tunnel she let a breath escape her lips. The wind in this cave was chilly again, the wind picking up speed as if an ayrala dragon or dovaa was inside and blowing it towards them. She shuddered as they stepped out into the cave. The floor was covered in a thin layer of ice. As she glanced down at the shiny surface, the ground began to shake. Ara yelped as she was thrown off balance, falling forward and straight into Detra’s back. She clenched her eyes shut as dust flew at their backs and pebbles rolled across the floor. She quickly jerked away from Detra, not wanting to upset him and glanced back at the tunnel. It seemed as if another cave in had decided to block there way. As she stood there staring, a tingling sensation traveled up her spine. Something dark and dangerous loomed in this cave. As she turned, her eyes flicked to a large boulder on the other side of the room. There, staring straight at them, was a diabi. The dragon of soudul. Ara gulped as she readied her magic. This was one of the toughest dragons out there and she wasn’t sure she was strong enough to fight it.

100/2 = 50 50 + 39 = 89/58 -> 31/59 +1 Diabi Orb +1 LUK +1 level Detraeus tensed, body going rigid the instant Ara’s weight tumbled up against him, but she was gone again just as quickly, and by the time he whipped around to see what the source of her sudden imbalance was, the tunnel behind them was already nothing but rubble and dust. He grimaced. So much for going back now. When he turned back, rolling his shoulders to pull his cloak tighter about himself, he froze mid-motion, and felt his heart thud against his rib cage. The dark, luminescent eyes of a full grown diabi stared back at him, and for an instant, he forgot how to breathe. He had only once ever encountered a diabi, and had been under the sway of hallucinogens at the time. Martrae’a, not he, had defeated the beast and now, in this moment, he hadn’t the faintest idea how best to battle the creature. When it stretched upwards, though, fanning its wings out large enough to fill half the cavern and opening its maw to expose wet, glistening rows of teeth and a growing circle of dark magic, Detraeus swept to the side, running along the edge of the cavern wall and firing an arrow at the beast’s side to draw its attention. The arrowhead clinked against the dragon’s near perfect armor, useless, and snapped the next instant under the diabi’s claws as it snorted. Ice cracked under Detraeus’ boots with each downward stamp: thin enough, thankfully, that he didn’t slip, though the rock spires jutting out of the floor made navigation more difficult. Not to mention, with the diabi in the room, it seemed that even the shadows moved against him. Usually, no darkness stopped him, but the creeping, swirling black smog of the diabi’s magic moved like ink through the air and across the floor. When Detraeus knelt, rooting himself and poising for another, more carefully aimed shot, the diabi spat, lodging a great ball of stinging, coiling, burning, frigid magic at him, and though Detraeus darted behind a rock spire, it curled around it and him, encompassing him in utter blackness. His skin crawled. His breath going cold and then hot on his tongue and down his throat, into his lungs. Pain came in pinpricks over his skin, and then like knives, cutting from the inside out. As though the magic were freezing and then boiling and setting his blood to burn inside his skin. His muscles bunched, turning stiff as iron inside his veins and he cried out, scrambling to move back, but only falling over like a helpless insect onto his back, limbs imobile. A scream wrenched its way from his lips like retching up hot acid as the magic sank in, and he felt his body begin to twitch and spasm beyond his control. Pathetic. ‘ Is this how you’re going to die? Helpless, and crying because of a single, measly dragon?’ Detraeus groaned, and then wailed, dark magic driving into him like needles in every pore, and his back arched, tendons stringing tight to their limits. “No…” was a choked whisper. “Mother, help…please…”

She took off after him as he ducked around a boulder, intent on aiding him with her magic. To help his arrows meet their mark. She froze half way there when he screamed. A sound unlike any other she had ever heard in her lifetime. She felt her body go rigid, her lungs refusing to work as she watched the dragon's magic expand. Ara forced herself to move, quietly and easily this time, so that she could at least see Detra. Her eyes went wide at the sight and her fists clenched at her sides. She watched as his body arched up off the ground. The words leaving his mouth barely audible. Ara echoed his whispered no, hers a loud scream as her magic let loose and ripped through the cave. Her throat closed up at the rest of his words and she slammed her magic into the side of the beast, hard and violent. The diabi stumbled, thrown off balance as Ara's wind slammed into it over and over, relentless in its attack. The dragon roared, it's magic slipping away from Detra and towards her. She moved, using her wind to fly up into the air, narrowly avoiding the black tendrils of diabi magic that slinked after her. Angry, the diabi shot up into the air after her. She smirked as the dragon did just what she expected and wanted. The instant the dragon reared back, opening it's wings, she slammed her magic forward. The wind rushed forward, catching at the dragon's wings and bending them backwards, pushing them against each other. Caught, mid air and unable to move without the use of it's wings, the dragon roared, dark diabi magic escaping it's gaping mouth. Ara ignored the pinpricks at her legs as she concentrated on her magic. She pushed and pulled, tugging at the diabi's wings and bending them in ways that they weren't suppose to be bent. The pain in the diabi's roar was evident as it's magic slowly faded away from her. She enveloped the dragon in a vacuum, sucking all the air inside of the dragon slowly out, delaying its death considerably longer than the last dragon she'd done this to. Finally, when the diabi disintegrated, she let herself fall back to the ground. Her hair was everywhere and the pain in her legs caused her to gasp as she touched ground. Ara ignored it all, moving for Detra. Again, she found herself kneeling on the icy ground, hands reaching out for him. She knew of no healing magics and only knew basic first aid. She wanted to touch him, to reassure herself that he was still there, still alive. "Detraeus..." His name came out on a whisper as she clenched her fists and hit them against the icy ground in front of her. She bowed her head, eyes shutting as the tears fell.

Go to "Exit" As soon as the diabi’s magic pulled away from him, Detraeus’ body fell limp, quivering like a rag doll stirred only by a winter wind, and his focus moved entirely to his breath. In. Out. In. The pain was gone. Breathe again. His pulse still beat like a small, frightened bird, darting about between his rib cage and his throat, but he narrowed his attention down, focusing on his lungs. Then his fingers. One digit at a time. Then his eyes. There was still a dragon out there to slay; he knew it. But he couldn’t convince his body to move because every time he tried another ripple of pain surged through him like an aftershock. So he refocused on breathing, listening to the sounds of the battle going on around him and hating the feeling of being a sentient rock. Immobile. Thinking, but useless. When the dragon died, roaring in pain and then shattering to dust in a familiar rain of sound, Detraeus drew a shuddered breath and shut his eyes. Araceli. Again. The stamp of her scrambling footsteps approached him and he struggled to lift himself without success. When he heard his name, however, his eyes snapped open, pinpricked and blurry vision focusing on her face. Was she… crying? He watched the beads of wetness slip down her cheeks with blank, open confusion. She’d defeated the dragon. Why—? He winced, fighting the pained pinch and lurch of his muscles as he worked to shove himself upright again. ‘ Why…?’ As soon as he made it upright — ignoring the pulses of pain that rippled down his spine and, seemingly, through every nameable nerve ending in his entire body — he frowned at her, studying her distressed posture through with an uncomprehending stare. ‘ You won,’ his mind insisted to her, over and over, though the words never left his lips. You won. ‘ You won.’ Why tears? He opened his mouth several times, debating each time and then shutting it again before pushing to a shaky crouch, and then stand, wincing and gritting his teeth as he did. Eventually, “Don’t cry…” was all that left his lips. And it came out hoarse and fractured besides, paired with the mentality he taught himself before he ever made it to a world outside of Seren’s hell. ‘ Do not waste your sorrow on those which will never understand your pain. Blood is more powerful than tears. Spend your energy on actions that will make a difference.’

She blinked at his demand and reached up to wipe the tears away with her forearm. She took a deep breath, letting her eyes close as she pushed herself up from the ground. Her brows pinched together at the pain in her legs where the diabi's magic had grabbed hold of her. She took another deep breath, pushing that sensation away as she opened her eyes back up. "We should go." Ara mumbled as she moved past him, picking the orbs up and tossing one to Detra. She gave him one last look before turning her attention back to the tunnels. The way back was blocked, the cave in blocking any way of retreating. So with little else as an option she moved to one of the tunnel openings on the other side of the cave. Again, the air became warm and muggy and the chill on her skin left her, replaced by beads of sweat as they traveled deeper into the tunnel. Her skin tingled as she stepped into the next cave. Water pooled in places where ice had once been and she shuddered. Not because of any kind of cold but because she recognized the feel of the magic that occupied this room. She closed her eyes as she took a step back, not wanting to take on another diabi by herself. "Together?" She asked simply as she glanced back to Detra.

All the same, his limbs felt functional, and at Ara’s question, he nodded, rolling his shoulders and unholstering his bow to draw it. “Together.” ‘ One…’ He drew a breath. ‘ Two. Three…’ Detraeus moved out, pulled, and released, feeling a tunnel of air whistle around his arm and after the arrow in its current. He fired two more shots in quick succession, stamping down the momentary panic that clawed up around his lungs as the diabi’s magic seeped out across the floor and towards his legs. But Ara fought with him, pushing his pace and even, at the last instant, lifting him out of the reach of the dragon’s magic as he buried a last shot in the diabi’s skull. He shuddered, pulse alive with adrenaline as the wind let him back down to the floor, his eyes wide and body humming with energy. When he glanced back to the pile left in the dragon’s wake, though, he blinked. Four? He stepped up, lifting two and trying not to let himself be overcome with the strange, giddiness in his chest as he did. “Ara…”

It seemed as if their teamwork always made them stronger. Her wind complemented his arrows and though they were essentially only acquaintances it was as if they had been working together for much longer than just few dragon battles. Her eyes moved to the glittering dragon orbs, widening when she saw that four of them had dropped instead of the normal two. Ara moved in close, watching as he lifted two of them up. 60/2 = 30 30 + 22 = 52/60 +1 Gaili Orb Detra blinked, not having realized immediately that her name had even left his lips. Then, flushing, he shook his head curtly. The words, “Double orbs…” were a mumble beneath his breath as he started towards a side room. A rush of cool air greeted him when he moved to the next room, but at least the inhabitant was familiar, and he flicked his wrists once, limbering his fingers and relaxing his muscles before readying his weapon. The gaili dragon was no match for them. Even after a scattered few battles where they had worked together, Araceli moved impressively well with him, disrupting the dragon’s flight patterns, distracting its magic, then cutting into it and giving Detraeus all the opportunity he needed to add his arrows to mix and bring the beast down. As a last rumbling shake quivered through the earth on the gaili’s dying breath, Detraeus steadied himself easily — highly practiced, thanks to Casseth, in the ways of maneuvering earth magic — and plucked up his orb without a qualm.

On instinct, he stepped closer, uncertain, and then darted in when she cried out, just barely making it close enough to slow her fall when she crumpled, his arms hammocking her back like a net. Immediately after, completely unused to the weight of a body in his grip, he tensed, cheeks burning and throat clenching up. He opened his mouth, but nothing came to his tongue and so he frowned, crouching uncertainly and laying her to the earth. “Araceli…?” Thinking on how much she’d helped him in the recent caverns — her own, personal reasoning aside — he winced, and hesitated, wondering if he’d need to give medical attention to her legs, which seemed to be the source of her pain. “C’mon, sky princess,” he muttered beneath his breath, “…you made it this far…”
