Of all the places he's wandered in, Dreadpirate thinks this one is the strangest. Croquet with flamingoes for mallets? He listens to the argument with faint patience, glad when they finally start explaining the rules of the quest. He's not sure he's picked the quest with the best time-reward balance, but he's here now. He'll have to do his best. Pick a mallet, pick a ball, hit a thing... how hard can it be? He turns to watch others mid-quest. Azrael cackles madly in his head. Apparently, it can be very difficult. Great. "First, to catch your mallet!" The gryphon NPC directs Dreadpirate over a flock of beady-eyed birds who eye him like he just suggested KFC for dinner. The gryphon seems to have decided Dreadpirate is here to take her side of the argument, perhaps because of their mutual piratey fashion sense. Dreadpirate can't be bothered to correct her - assuming an NPC would be programmed to a level capable of understanding that. He just goes along with it for now. Wading into the flock, he dodges pecks and kicks. Finally he emerges with one of the birds, his hand clasped around its scrawny neck. It's a very strange shade, for a flamingo. For some reason the word PANK comes to mind. He blames it on being in Wonderland for too long. "Now what?" he asks. "Why, to the hedgehogs, of course!" exclaims the gryphon and leads the way. Both NPCs take turns explaining the next stage of the game - the actual croquet. Dreadpirate might be British, but he's never seen the game played before. He listens closely, but still feels mostly lost. In the end, he decides it's best to learn by trying. ~And failing,~ Azrael adds smugly. ... It's entirely possible. Likely, even. Dreadpirate lines up a hedgehog with a squire and swings. He misses, badly. He gets the impression his flamingo is unimpressed. He's not one to give up easily. Lining up another shot, Dreadpirate tries again. This one connects with a hearty smack. The hedgehog spins across the field, bowling down a squire of hearts. He only has a squire of diamonds to go. He spots one darting around and takes aim. The squire goes flying and Dreadpirate is done with croquet! His last flamingo is still conscious, so he releases it back to the flock. Taking his loot, he leaves before the NPCs can start another argument. Having made her way out of the dungeon, and apparently into some sort of hedge maze, Usagi jumped when she heard a loud and mournful sigh, and with her curiousity piqued, she ventured towards the noise, coming across the mock turtle and gryphoness.
Why was it that there were always bickering? Why couldn't everyone just get along? She tilted her hand, just standing and watching until they caught sight of her, and asked her to partake in a quest. Oh, a quest! Well, she could do that! She didn't really know how to play croquet, but it was never too late to learn, right?
And so she did as instructed, bounding over to where the flamingos stood.
The bird she managed to catch was flapping a lot, and in a way, she kinda felt bad for it. Poor bird. She cuddled it close and pet it.
