[ Didero was still standing at least, if not slightly hunched over, petting his security gerbil carefully. He was obviously trying to save face by playing off his panic attack, but was a pretty poor liar, even for a kid. He avoided eye-contact and pouted. If nothing else, with the lizard dead, he seemed to be over his initial fear and was more embarrassed by having freaked out in the first place.
"I... Don't like reptiles," Didero replied tightly. ]

((No problem, Glitch! I like to worry that the boys screamed and panicked <3. Also, I vote that if we get that event again we use our bouncebeast hoof!))
Ganyma sighed and tended to the bitemarks of his fellow kids. Stagdad looked like he was taking care of Luxara, but Didero's lusus was... Recovering. Ganyma froze a little bit at its bloodied beak and then shook a particularly foul memory out of his head. "It's alright, buddy. I'm not a big fan either."
"I'm okay, thanks. Just a little cut up. I should wrap my hands anyway." He slipped off his gloves, which thankfully protected his hands from the majority of the lizard's bites. They extended to his wrists and fingers, and he touched each fingertip together to test out the damage. They stung, but would heal soon.
The tealblood pulled some bandages out of his backpack and got to work wrapping his knuckles. He was focused now. The desert was certainly more dangerous now that they were tired and bruised up, but Ganyma's moods were nigh unsinkable (though he was glowing slightly less now from his previous battle-vigor).
"And hey, on the bright side," he smiled and picked something up off of the ground where the lizard had whipped up sand. Ganyma turned to Didero and presented him with a lucky beetle. "More shiny things,"

Luxara sunk her hands into her pockets idly, where the gerbils started nosing and nipping her fingers, making her smile a little. She turned that reassuringly on Didero. "It's okay, Did. That was a pretty nasty lizard. Between that little thing and our big hunt, it's reptile CENTRAL in this place. I'm getting pretty sick of them, myself." If she could, she'd start riding Stagdad for the extra comfort, but she was too worried about shaking up the little guys she was taking care of.
"Our luck's so all over the place, don't you think?" she said a little while later, observing Ganyma and Didero and the new beetle. "Like sometimes we find cool things and then we get cornered and then good things then FLYING LIZARDS OF HATE and man am I hoping that we don't run into trouble again soon because I gotta be honest, it's been a loooong night. Whew." she sighed with another grin.

"Yeah, Luxara. I'm stumped about it! I think it must be this thing with the WACKY. Though you'd guess there'd be more whacky weather and less animals, right?"
Ganyma, not understanding how natural disasters (and unnatural disasters) worked, slipped his gloves back on, tested the sharpness of his pushblades and rolled his shoulders back. He was ready to go again.
"I guess the sooner we take down that lusus, the sooner we can all get home."
Hmm. Home. Ganyma would definitely have to make that stop to Four Fronds instead. He gathered the troops and they were on their way. "Let's find a nice place to rest up again, okay?"
After that teeny tiny lizard, the lusus was a welcome sight. "Oh, speaking of luck -- here he comes again!"

[ Didero looked up at Ganyma as he approached. His eyes flicked from Ganyma's face to the shiny beetle and back again. Eventually, Didero smiled and took the beetle with one hand, while pocketing the gerbil with his other.
"Um, yeah. I guess it was. A pretty nasty lizard." Didero's lusus hopped over to his side and Didero scratched its neck feathers. Hatoful Dad had done a pretty good job cleaning out most of the blood, but Didero pointedly avoided touching the feathers near his face.
"I, um... Didn't notice... with all the machines and stuff on its head... that it was reptilian," Didero muttered very quietly.
Before Didero could reach for the gerbil again, the lusus reappeared over the horizon. Didero gulped, but readied his net all the same.
"Right! Lucky!" Didero called back while tossing his net. ]

After a couple more breaths, she was ready for another go at this lusus. Luxara let out a rebel yell as she ran up and prepped her net. Honestly, after that attack, anything was better than that dumb little lizard. It was just a shame that they didn't get to skin and eat it.

REFRESHING REST POST
Everyone in your group is well rested. Your group recovers three stamina, to a maximum of five! Your group recovers 13 hp, if you were previously at zero!
A floppy bouncebeast is no stranger to the desert, and when one bounces into your group’s path you’re suddenly struck with an idea. The lusus has been running wild for a while now… It could probably use a snack. Your group has captured a live bouncebeast! If the next 2D4 roll result is not to fight the lusus, the group can decide to use the bouncebeast to attract it to their location instead. Your roll will be treated as though it was originally a lusus encounter. The live bouncebeast can only be used once, and the group can only carry one live bouncebeast with them at a time.
1,3
A sudden cold snap whisks through the desert. There’s a n** in our nose, a chill in your bones and your cheeks are just a little more vibrant in hue. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem to be much more than a quick blast of frigid air. This weather effect will remain in play until the next dice are rolled.
Something glinting over a bluff catches your eye. A burrow in the side of the dune yields a bounty of shining golden beetles! And as they say, lucky beetles mean good fortune (and megabux$$$). Each member of the group has acquired 1 lucky beetle that can be redeemed at the end of the meta for a variety of rewards. You cannot carry any more than 5 lucky beetles total; if you run into this encounter more than 5 times, you cannot collect any more.
2,2
Uh oh. The ground rumbles suddenly. Not again! Sure enough, after a moment the rough shaking of the ground resumes with surprising force. It’s an earthquake! This weather effect will remain in play until a 2, 3, 4, or 5 are rolled on a D6.
An overenthusiastic bouncebeast hops into view. You don’t pay it any mind at first, but when it starts to get closer—and closer—you realize that spring is in the air. The lovestruck beast assaults your group! The bouncebeast has 1 HP, but has a +1 to avoid being hit (you will need to roll a 4 or above to hit). Every post in which the lovestruck bouncebeast has not been defeated incurs 1 point of damage to the group (as it wounds the group’s dignity in trying to hump their legs).
3,1
There’s little time to get to higher ground as a surging wave of water sweeps through the plains. Aided by a localized storm system, the flash flood rolls through quickly and viciously. This weather effect will remain in play until a 2, 3, 4, or 5 are rolled on a D6.

The feeling of another oncoming WACKY weather system prickles your skin. With a feeling of dread, you brace yourself for the effects of… A soothing, balmy breeze. Aaah… This weather effect will remain in play until the next dice are rolled.
The peace in the desert seemed too good to be true. Turns out that nice quiet spell was just the calm before the storm – or maybe all of the other weather effects were just too busy getting sucked in to that giant TORNADO straight ahead to do you any harm. This weather effect will remain in play until a 1 or a 6 are rolled on a D6.

In the distance… Is that a mirage? It certainly looks too good to be true, but as you get closer you break into a sprint when you realize that the oasis is exactly what it appears to be! Your group fully recovers HP!
"Here we go," exhaled Ganyma. The lusus was burdened by both nets now, which would give him at least a couple more blows. It looked pretty worse for wear though! Perhaps it was going to go down!

Or... Maybe not. The lusus thrashed wildly, and while it's skin was peppered in blows from blunt objects, sharp blades and piercing marks, it seemed as though it was refreshed somehow. Ganyma was totally clueless but kept bashing away regardless.

He wasn't doing as much damage to the creature as he liked! Somehow it was blocking his attacks. Did it shed its old skin and regrow a hard one? Or get empowered by the sun? It was probably on steroids. Or the WACKY was some kind of power-up machine! That was not something Ganyma could get behind, and as the wild idea crossed his mind he hit just that much harder.

Ganyma nodded in satisfaction as the lusus ran off again. "Okay, lusus and kids, let's take a rest. That lusus must have gotten its second wind or somethin', so I say we get ours too and match it!"
The group wandered around to an outcropping to rest. It would be a good vantage point for the next bout of exploration. Over top of the rocky crags, Ganyma saw an ominous bit of wind whip up in the distance. Another dust storm? The lusus? No.
"Oh, NO! Kids, we have to run! TORNADO!"

She watched the big galoot of a lusus run off after another wailing. Every time, she was a little more awestruck, and every time there were more fighting moves to remember for the future. Her favorite still was the biting tactic.
However, it seemed there was no rest for the wicked. The action just wouldn't stop coming! The lusus ran off just in time for the winds to pick up and at first Luxara began to wonder if it would be like last night, and...
She swallowed when Ganyma announced what it was. "THAT'S a tornado?" She had never seen anything like it in her life up to this point; heck, she barely even knew what a twister WAS. "That's...so...COOL." But Stagdad was already nudging her. The gerbils were freaking out. General consensus showed it was time to hoof it out of there before they were swallowed by the big sweeping dust twister.
She briefly wondered if Ganyma would be too heavy to suck up into that vortex. He was a boulder, after all.

"Mr. Luxara's lusus, can you give your charge a ride?" hurried Ganyma, collecting all of his things he'd strewn around as fast as possible. A tornado right after their rest was just too much - perhaps if they were already adventuring, yes. This just seemed like dumb bad luck.
In collecting everything, Ganyma looked to Didero's lusus. It was probably too small to carry him. Ganyma collected Didero, too. He swung the kid onto his huge shoulders. "Sorry, buddy, but it'll be faster this way!"
Ganyma started to run as fast as his legs could carry him. The tornado didn't seem to be letting up as it charged in horrifying zigzags towards the group.
((Luxara is too cute. Also Cylem won't be on 'til a bit later so I think it's safe to roll out this event @u@))

"His name is Stagd-" Right then Stagdad tried to lift her by the scruff. "I'M CARRYING LIVE ANIMALS YOU DUMMY." Which got her dropped right on her butt. "Stagdad, we don't have TIME for this!" Luxara jumped back up and started scrambling up onto Stagdad. She was about to ask Ganyma for a boost, but...he was already running off without her. "s**t!" she squeaked, scrambling harder to get onto her lusus. The little troll had just managed to climb over her white-furred antler beast, basically a full body thrust on her part to cling over his side while her feet fell down the other flank, and he seemed to take that as the cue to run. At least she wasn't QUITE dangling off of him, but this wasn't a noble steed situation, either. All she could do was feel his fur on the bottom of her chin and some of her cheek when she'd look from one side or the other. She kept shutting her eyes to keep the sand from blinding her.
It really wasn't a particularly flattering position to be in.
