It had barely been five minutes since S'aen had moved to the feeding tables alongside Jaecath when the sudden piercing of screams filled the air. The two turned simultaneously to see the Wicked green terrorizing one of the candidates.. one who looked extremely young, and small. What was the green even thinking at this point? He felt strongly for it, and wanted no more than for the little one to be happy, but.. this? This would not do. However, before he could take one step, a brown wing was spread before him; blocking his progression.

No. That would be unwise. The brown did not look at his new partner as he spoke, but held his unwavering gaze fixed on the sands. Instead, he would try to speak to his sibling. Sister, please reconsider. He paused as he returned his wings to his sides, his bulky frame calm and still. Your actions will bring you no solace. There is happiness for you, but this is not the path towards it. He decided to say no more for fear of agitating her, but his intentions were nothing but good. Whether she would even consider his words was a whole different story, though.

S'aen only looked down at his dragon as he pondered his actions, wondering if that was enough. Honestly, his first choice would have been to run in and grab the girl, but perhaps it was wise to take this slowly considering the delicate state the green seemed to be in. Instead, he chose to wait and see what would happen next.

She did not like this wet sand business. It was most unusual and very unpleasant, her feel were gritty and being dragged down and no, this was just very unpleasant. She could handle the rain, handle the mud outside, the thunder all of it. It was the sand that bothered her. She was used to open plains, mud and dirt were the norm. Sand was not. She swore since she had gotten to Ista she'd done nothing, but save shake sand out of every article of clothing, every shoe and constantly out of her hair. It was for definite: Rocellia did not like sand.

Still her concern for the young green trumped that though. Being of the beastcraft she hated to see animals in pain. Though she was still unsure whether dragons counted as animals. They were sort of a class of their own, looking like animals and yet thinking like people most of the time. The behaviour of this little one so far had Rocellia thinking that she would definitely not like to be referred to as an animal by anyone. Still, nonetheless, she couldn't squash the part of her that wanted to help her. The others had crowded her and she'd clearly become upset. It was fair too, you didn't corner a wounded creature. They needed space or they'd never calm down. By the looks of things her injuries weren't so bad that she needed to be immediately retrained to treat them, it'd be a different story if that was the case, but she seemed okay for now.

Hopefully soon she'd find the one she wanted. Then Wicked could get out of the rain and stop bellowing at it, get her injuries treated, get dried off and fed. Rocellia hoped it was soon. She hated the thought of the damp little hatchling wandering about on her own like this. Dragons were supposed to have partners and she needed hers right now. Surely someone had felt a pull towards her? Had she not been strictly commanded not to approach unimpressed hatchlings then Rocellia would have tried to soothe the dragon herself, but something told her that with this particular green, the candidatemaster's words were best advised.

The wicked green seemed to sense Becka's disapproval, glancing towards her and staring for a long moment. A raindrop landed on her nose, and a furious hiss escaped her. She slashed at the rain with a forepaw. How dare it touch her?!

She seemed to pause at her brother's words, before snarling in response. Happiness? Ha! Happiness was for sissies! Happiness didn't exist! She made her way towards Becka. Could she stop this sky water?

The delighted laughter of the youngster in her arms brought a grin to Ticene's face. The antics of the playful green seemed endlessly wondrous to Tiry and Ticene was pleased to encourage it. True her daughter had been upset by the clash amongst the gold, now impressed, and the other green, but she had a child's mind and the skirmish was soon forgotten among all the other exciting things going on. Ticene let her eyes drift to Joleen, wondering how she was handling this. It was her dragon's first clutch after all. Hyweth's part was instinctive, Tic had yet to come across a gold dragon that didn't to some standard know what they were doing. It was the rider's who had to learn what to do and some took to it better than others. In Joleen's time here she'd not done anything to make Ticene think that she was unfit in her position. The girl was learning well and fast, already seeming to have a good handle on matching wills with Hyweth. That had been the part Ticene had found the most difficult, having her lovely Calith turn on her for the first time. To have the dragon that had never shown her anything, but love and affection, suddenly be against her, to fight every word she said. To actually have to force the one closest to her to submit. Not ask, not reason, force.

You did what was necessary, my love, as we all do. We all have our roles in life and they must be played, even at the hardest times.

Calith lay on a low, wide, ledge. Resting on her side, her wings furled and her forelegs crossed, the gold watched the scene unfold. It did not matter that these hatchlings had not come from her own body, Calith was still intent on protecting them. Nothing would get past her to harm these little ones, they were the hope for the Weyr and must be guarded from harm. She watched with a careful gaze each egg and damp hide, checking all of them, yet remaining silent. This was not her hatching to control, she was merely the watcher here, the guardian against outside whilst Hyweth guided her hatchlings. Slowly whirling blue eyes slid across the sands to rest on the young gold. Hyweth was not one of hers either, nor was she even born of Ista Weyr, yet it made no difference to Calith. The young dragon on the sands was as much one of her own as any that she had watched break shell into this world and needed her protection as much as the others. The young gold had done well in her maiden flight and borne a healthy clutch, Calith was very proud.

.. That went well. S'aen thought, a somewhat defeated shrug rolling across his shoulders. It hadn't occurred to him completely yet that Jaecath could practically read his mind, and was continuously shocked when the brown would respond to him.

She has moved on from the tiny one, though. That is good. The brown watched his sister head towards the healers, his eyes whirling a blue now that she seemed to be on a different path. Still disgruntled over the tiniest of water drops, of course, but different nonetheless. Jaecath turned his head towards S'aen, his body soon following. I am proud that you would try to protect that person, Mine. We have many people to protect, and have much work to do in order to be strong enough. But, we must also be smart.

S'aen knew this was in reference to his automatic attempt to walk onto the sands, and furrowed his brow a little. True, it may have been hasty, but the moment seemed urgent. I was only doing what I thought was right. He thought, his palm sliding across Jaecath's snout. And that is why I chose you, but it is good to learn how to be more effective. I think we will be able to achieve much together this way. The not-so-little brown sat calmly but proudly, watching his sister now with what seemed like even more purpose. S'aen had never really pictured himself as some sort of "protector," but Jaecath was doing a good job at convincing him that maybe he could be. If there was one thing he was good at besides fishing, it was stubbornly fighting for a cause he believed in.

Becka couldn't help the knot in her stomach when the dragon looked at her, wondering why and hoping that the dragon wasn't about to maul her too, well at least she was in the right place if it decided to go on a rampage.... and there she went, raging at the rain again, slashing at the air as if she could attack the drops of water, she feared for this one's Rider, it seemed this small green was angry at everything around her, at first it had seemed justified, the Gold had attacked her, mostly unprovoked and she WAS injured but... "oh shaff" she muttered, the dragon was headed right at her. She was ashamed to admit she backed up, at least until a table and an older Healer halted her retreat. She swallowed hard and hoped the green wouldn't hurt her.

She watched as the gold dragon attacked the wicked and she cringed. The green hadn't done anything, Paige was scared if everything it seemed and because of that fear the gold miss understood and attacked an now the green was injured. She frowned.

She wasn't impressed. She watched as a brown hatched and impressed and another green hatched. It seems the sands were comig alive with dragons and she hoped wicked would soon impress so that she might get some care.

The wicked green hesitated. Her eyes became a dull gray. She had frightened Becka. The girl who had admired her so, when she'd been an egg. The hatchling slowly approached, no longer hissing at the rain that beat down on her hide.

Don't be frightened. Not of me. Never of me, my Becka. I would never hurt you. You are mine. Others, they are not worthy of us. Let us prove that together, we are worth all Pern!

What!? No?! This wasn't.... oh shards and shells, this wasn't happening.. was it?

Those rainbow eyes and the strange voice in her head couldn't be denied though, nor the hunger clutching her belly or the rush of warmth she felt, knowing she would never, EVER be alone again.

Don't be frightened. Not of me. Never of me, my Becka. I would never hurt you. You are mine. Others, they are not worthy of us. Let us prove that together, we are worth all Pern!

"Taikirth but.. I'm a healer, not a candidate"

That rabble wasn't worthy, you were. Affirmed the green, closing the gape between them as Becka knelt to hold her head.

Becka, although slowly accepting what had happened, that she'd actually IMPRESSED, it still hadn't quite sunken in yet however when the green leaned into her a little heavily she frowned, healer instinct coming to the fore, taking a small pot of numbweed, some Redwort, some cloths and a couple of bandages from the Healers table, after approval from the fully qualified Healers of course, she set to cleaning the wound on her (really?) dragon, she didn't know much about Dragon Healing but Redwort to clean the wound (as the sands were very wet and clingy) Numbweed to dull the pain and clean bandages and cloths to gently wipe at it, that would do until Taikirth had eaten and was comfortable. For the moment Becka wanted Taikirth to be able to move without pain. She was half tempted to carry her.

I will not be carried... but you can tend me here then i must eat, i am very hungry.

Well ok, Becka would need to do it here, under the watchful eyes of the Healers. She carefully cleaned the wound with the Redwort, then again with plain water before applying numbweed, perhaps not quite enough but this was a dragon, she didn't know how it affected them so she used a human sized dose despite Dragon Hide being thicker, once done she bound the wound as best she could.

It still hurts my Becka but i can walk, i'm terribly hungry

"Right, let's get you to the feeding tables" Her eyes looked at the healers once more and a pang of sorrow at losing her craft she'd worked so hard at, however the rush of love from Taikirth replaced it pretty quickly. "Lean on me if you need to but we'll walk to the tables" she said with a slightly sad smile, her hand on the small Green's head as they moved off. Skirting round the Gold and her rider though not before Taikirth sneaked a disgusted glance at the pair.

For a small dragon Taikirth sure wanted to make short work of even the largest of pieces of fresh meat Becka began feeding her with.

Jemi frowned, eyes narrowing as the gold hatching suddenly tackled the green. Not cool, the gold likely had four weight classes on the green. The green was surely, but randomly hissing at people was a sign of antisocial behavior not true aggression.. when had she became Wen?

Jemi paused and looked over at Paige and smiled. "It is okay, go, go and see to your bond partner." She glanced over at Wen, making sure her partner was fine. "It important." She paused and nodded at Kaimi.

Poor green though... and random dragon on the sand. Where had that egg came from? Nice looking brown though. And now that was aggression. Jemi watched the green attack... maul a candidate well, the robe. The girl was screaming but she didn't think they were injured. At least not badly.

New green.. ooh, where were you going Wicked? Wasn't that the healer tables.

Wen shifted, half moving and stilled, watching the dragons fight and move on without any human blood shed. Dragon inchor had been shed. The green was wounded and injured dragons were likely unhappy dragon. He expected some form of retaliation... and there the green went. Not nearly as bloody as he expected.

Hidden brown. Interesting but not relevant. Impressed. New green, fun loving, likely not a danger. Wicked... Impressed? To a healer?

Rocellia breathed a sigh of relief as the moody green bonded. It looked like she'd made a great choice too, since the girl clearly knew about healing enough to patch her up straight away. Now she was being fed and everyone could relax. the green was patched and wouldn't be running out to frighten any small girl's again. She did wonder how the youngster was holding up, true she didn't look like she'd been hurt, but that didn't mean she wasn't scared out of her mind with what had happened. Poor mite must be terrified after that. She was a brave one if she was willing to stay on the sands after that happened, that was for sure.

Looking back at the clutch she toted up the eggs. That was four hatched and three impresses, just the spirited green still on the sands. None of the other eggs seemed too enthused to come out. How did they all know to hatch at the same time anyway? Was it possible that the rest of the eggs wouldn't hatch for some time? Then again, dragon's could speak in each others minds, so maybe they all arranged at time. That was a weird thought, that the eggs were all talking to each other. Had they been doing that at the touching. Hm, it was slightly unnerving.

The Ocean egg began to rock violently before spilling out another green. This green seemed willing to take her time, calm as the sea on a good day. She stretched, glancing toward the candidates. Eh. No. Not yet. She wandered over to the Pale Egg, giving it a sharp rap with her tail. No point in sleeping, man!

A bronze slid forth from the egg, blinking facetted eyes. Huh. How strange. So many visitors as once. He gave a bugle. Hello everyone! Hello!

Paige

With the blessings of her friends the newest goldrider had walked, led by Venaith, towards the feeding tables and being the first to arrive, chose the end of one table. Workers were already there with huge hanks of raw meat and knives in preparation. Paige hadn't been able to pay attention to the rest of the Hatching, or the actions of the green that had frightened her so. She could barely pay attention to feeding Venaith! Every so often she would just pause, looking at her dragon, and getting lost in her own mind as she felt that bond and wave of love.

It wasn't until Venaith nudged her knee and looked in the direction of the approaching pair that Paige snapped out of it and managed to hand her the next chunk of meat. "Oh!" She exclaimed. She wasn't in candidate robes! A Stands Impression! "Congratulations!" Paige smiled at Becka, a little awkwardly as the pair made an obviously wide arc around them. She felt a pang. It wasn't her fault... she'd just done as she'd been trained.

I am happy you have found yours so quickly my sister! That she was not a candidate surprises me, but she must be worthy to be chosen by you. That she had even been tended to so quickly was a good sign in Venaith's mind. She had not wanted to harm Taikirth, she was only protecting what was hers and doing as she felt was right at the time. She forgave the green and felt assured that she would be forgiven as well in time.

"Do you need help?" Paige asked, trying to show some goodwill and that she didn't hate her or her new bondmate. She reached down and touched Venaith's cheek as the gold laid a reassuring hand on her knee.

Becka looked at the girl-Goldrider and gave her a weak smile, Despite patching the green up and having that loving tug at the back of her mind, she didn't quite believe it was true "uh thanks" she said, just as weakly. Feeling bad for skirting the pair after seeing the girl's face but it was better to be safe than sorry, after all SHE couldn't hear the Gold's thoughts, she wasn't to know that the Gold wasn't about to attack again.

Of course she's worthy, The candidates were weak, Mine is strong. commented the Green to the gold, yer eyes flashing with the smallest hint of orange/red.

Becka had sat down with Taikirth leaning on her by the time the goldrider spoke to her again "Oh, uh no, we're fine thank you" she said, pleasantly but caught off guard, she was still in a fair bit of shock, not to mention feeling Taikirth's pain wasn't nice.
