The task was to do jobs and damnit, Sumika was going to do a job. The most obvious choice was working with metal, of course, and so Sumika was in the forge today. At the moment, she was prepping for the forge owner to get ready for the day. [ 1 / 3 ] The girl spend some time straightening things as best she could. The shelves weren't too terribly hard, except for the one she couldn't reach. She, well, she managed back in the forge was about as much as she could say.

Sumika couldn't say she was a huge fan of the process behind helping the forge. Talking to people was never really her strong point, nor was keeping track of a chaotic situation, and today was just that. Not only was the forge busy, but rumors of a thief made things extra stressful.[ 1 / 4 ] Not that the determined little shinobi would let that slow her down much. Still, it was rather hectic and she spent most of her day just trying to keep from losing her head. One could only mange so many requests of the top of their head, and she regularly had two or three people asking her for stuff at the same time.[ 2 / 4 ] A few people even bugged her about why she couldn't do things like hammer out some nails after the forge ran out. It didn't seem to register with these people, frantically huddled into the small space trying to get started on rebuilding, that Sumika would be a liability back there.[ 3 / 4 ] With her compulsions, the girl was nearly guaranteed to get mad and accidentally dust some important chunk of metal. Maybe it'd be some ornate garbage, or maybe it'd be a weapon. Either way, you didn't really want this particular genin in the forge on a busy day and absent any experience.[ 4 / 4 ]

Eventually things settled down, and it was time to close out the day. Counting money, organizing drawers and crates, counting stock. For the most part Sumika did the latter, since simply tallying things was extra simple. Though the building hadn't burned down while she was in it, so the day couldn't exactly be called a failure.

Sumika was about to walk out the door when the shop's owner shoved a list into her hands. It would appear that the shop was quite low on supplies. The result was that she'd need to head off to other forges in the vicinity and get more.[ 1 / 3 ] First up on the list was raw iron stock, not especially hard to find. Around the Sumika wandered off around the corner and into another forge. Pretty simple really. A rather awkward conversation later and the purchase was secured.[ 2 / 3 ] Luckily for Sumika, she also possessed an easy method of transporting the materials. Most would have struggle, but the pallet of ingots simply levitated with a flick of her hand. A few minutes later and she was back at the forge, dropping off her first supply run.[ 3 / 3 ]

One task down, one to go. The next item on the list was, of all things, a hammer. It would appear that the smith of the forge had broken his during the chaos and required another.[ 1 / 3 ] This too proved no matter, though Sumika simply acquired it from a nearby shop. It was certainly a less taxing task than the last, even if that hadn't be as hard as it initially seemed. She paid for it out of her own pocket and shoved it into her pocket before heading out.[ 2 / 3 ] On the way to her next task the girl allowed herself the luxury of a little daydreaming. Imagining her own forge, tucked away somewhere other than this hustle and bustle. Maybe in the mountains, or somewhere on on island, or both even.[ 3 / 3 ]

Let's see, what was next? Hmm, well, the owner of the shop wanted some coal for his forge. That seemed like a good place to start.[ 1 / 3 ] Only problem was, aside from mining it herself, Sumika had no clue where to find it. A cursory search of the surrounding market, however, yielded a result, but not from a forge. Instead it was from a standard retailer, who hadn't needed to keep shoveling it all day to stay in business.[ 2 / 3 ] Getting the materials back was a bit of a different story, however.
Despite her ingenuity, there wasn't really a way around this aside from pushing the damn cart back across the market. An arduous task, to be sure, but one that ultimately needed to be done.[ 3 / 3 ]

Well, that was done with. Next on the list was... oil. Well, that would probably be easier at least.[ 1 / 3 ] Oil for quenching, that was bound to be back at the other forge. Sure enough, a short conversation and an exchange of funds later, Sumika had oil. Well, to be more specific, her puppet had oil.[ 2 / 3 ] It was a combat model and so far all she'd done was carry things with it. Oh well, at least she got some experience manipulating it. With the barrel set in back of the forge the genin was halfway done with her task list.[ 3 / 3 ]

Next up was a few assorted scrap metals. This one would be easy as cake, as a lot of shops kept scraps around that they sold for a small fee. And so Sumika was off again, looking for random assortments to replenish the shop's stock.[ 1 / 3 ] One stop after another, the girl's pile of metal increase, all of them magnetized to her puppet for easy carrying. She managed quite the precarious looking stack before turning around.[ 2 / 3 ] The metal fell with a clang and Sumika set about sorting it as soon as she got back to the shop. It was a simple task, but hopefully it'd earn her some cred in the process. She'd like nothing more than to get to work actually smithing things. [ 3 / 3 ]

There wasn't too much left, but the rest were all rare metals. The first one the list was the most iconic, gold. Not a lot, a few bars, but it'd serve for what little this forge used it for.[ 1 / 3 ] The search, however, proved to be harder than most of the rest. It wasn't that gold was terribly hard to find; in fact, most of the other shops had some. It was about whether or not they were willing to part with it.[ 2 / 3 ] Somehow, just as she was about to give up, the girl succeeded in annoying another smith to part with some of his gold stash. Not exactly a tactful approach, but hey, she had what she needed. Rare metal in tow, the girl headed back to the forge.[ 3 / 3 ]

Platinum was next, and sure to be even harder. Except that the owner had actually thought ahead and ordered this one. Thank the deities if they did, indeed, exist.[ 1 / 3 ] The trek was all the way across the market though. Not a painful experience in its own right, but not a fun one. Things were hectic as the day came to a close and the little puppeteer was nearly stepped on or squashed half a dozen times.[ 2 / 3 ] The trip back wasn't much better, as she literally got knocked into a stall. If it weren't for her magnetic personality, she'd have never found her damn metal again. That said, she'd completed it at least so there wasn't really anything to complain about, bruises included. The last thing was... wait, this couldn't be right. It was a pastrami sandwich. What in the actual hell? When did this become about delivering food.[ 1 / 3 ] Oh well, it was the last thing, and easy enough to find. The sandwich cart was right on the corner outside the shop by now, and she had an inkling that there was a reason for that beyond a route. Two sandwiches ordered, and one delivered.[ 2 / 3 ] The girl hopped her way up onto the counter, stuffing her face has her legs bounced. It'd been a good day. Slightly boring, a little tedious, but good nonetheless. [ 3 / 3 ]
