It typically took a great deal to take Zar's mind off of the crippling awkwardness and grimness which seemed to exemplify him. But Calder it turned out, was a great deal, he'd been given a run for his money and once again had been permitted to set the wild creature which lurked in the shadows of his nature free. Calder had given as good as he got and then some.
It felt good to be worn out. Liberating, as if all his worries were pushed aside by sheer adrenaline.
"A tie perhaps, but in your efforts you earned something you did not have before." He stretched, his tail sprawled out behind him, limp and lazy. "My respect."

He smiled a small, tired smile as he propped himself on his elbow to then brush some hair from Zar's face. "Hmm. Guess I'm not too naive then. I don't get to have someone who has this much energy that often. Now I have to see how much your endurance is."
He touched the tip of his horn just to play with it, thinking to himself. "Barth said that you would be a nice gift for me since he can't keep up to my pace, but it's better that you actually gave yourself to me than him just saying it. I think he was just saving his hide anyways." He let a finger trail down a horn.
"Ya know, if you ever decide looking at the future isn't so bad, I'm sure Barth and I will have plenty of rooms in the castle when we get one." He glanced back down to look at him. "You don't have to decide then what you want to do with your life, but at least you'd have a place to stay that was warm until you do." And he wasn't just talking about the temperature in the air. "You're not a bad person, Zar.. You should stop being so hard on yourself. Barth and I can take what you dish out, so maybe try letting more of those emotions out. I think you are sexier that way."

"I have substantial endurance." he said, with very little pride in the fact. It meant that though he was sated now, it wouldn't be a large span of time before he was back exactly where he'd begun. "I should think I might give you a run for your money, and if I do not, I might yet, with practice." The touch on his horn made him flutter his eyes closed. His pupils had returned to their normal relaxed state, but flickered slitted as he did so. He exhaled, giving the kelpie an unreadable look. "A gift?" He didn't comment on this.
"The future for me will depend on who finds me useful and for how long. I am not choosy. If I was needed in that theoretical castle, then there would be no reason I would not be there." He flexed his shoulders, stings of pain twinging across his body from the prior exertion. "I enjoy letting them go when I am matched or restrained enough that they pose no permanent harm. When it is safe."

He smiled. "I think Barth would be happy to find anyone who can give me a run for my money to the point that I'm not trashing things and actually sleeping normally." He released the horn and went to lay back down and to stare at the ceiling.
"You sound a lot like Christof. Being useful for as long as someone wants you, but I think everyone is that way. To want to be needed. I want you to be happy, Zar, just as much as anyone else. I think if you just go by whoever wants you, you mind up being used and hurt. You should have a few more restrictions than just blind usefulness." He said, looking over to him.
"But for now, thank you - for that respect. I am glad I could help, and.......you helped me a lot too. I needed that." He did, as he had been feeling caged and pent up no matter how much he time he spent outside. He could feel it in his bones that things weren't getting better.
"You can feel safe with Barth and I. We'll keep you safe....or try anyways." He hadn't been the best at protecting in the long run. Christof was more monster brawn then he was in the long run.
