She could take care of herself, and she could run. She'd done it a hundred times. Or at least a few. She was nearly an expert at it. But the gear had held her up. Her own anger had surely gotten in the way, too. She didn't get far enough.
When she'd wake, she wouldn't know exactly what hit her. The titan? A piece of ground it kicked up? It wouldn't matter, her head would hurt all the same.
But that was later. First, she'd just lie on the ground unconscious for a while.

...s**t. s**t. This was his fault, wasn't it? He wasted no time pulling his gear out, getting the hell away from the Titan as it exploded, much earlier than it had in the past, no doubt to the added agitation he had caused. Once again, his own selfish mistakes were going to cost him.
He ran over to Sherry, throwing himself on top of her to protect her from the blast and debris. Only when he was sure it was finished did he move, but he still kept his arms around her, holding her close as he tried to listen for a heartbeat. "Sherry oh god please tell me you're alive."

Her heart was beating, faster than it would have been if she'd been sleeping, but that not too odd considering she'd just been running. It was a rhythm Sherry was aware of as she came back to consciousness, because every beat of her heart made her head throb, along with her shoulder. "Hss," she sucked in a breath through her teeth, and then groaned as she tried to move. Someone was impeding her movement, and through her grogginess she could tell it was Jake. What... Right. Titan fight. "Ow," she said with another breath.

When he felt her move and heard her speak, he breathed a sigh of relief. Now to take her to the infirmary.
He released her for a moment, placing his hands on her shoulders as he looked her over for any cuts and bruises. Even though he didn't see any which warranted immediate attention, he wasn't a medic, so he slung one of her arms around his neck and picked her up, a determined look on his face as he began carrying her Sherry inside the facility.

It was like waking up, only slower than she usually went about it. She hadn't planned on napping, and her mind was trying to piece things together. Being picked up and and jostled around kicked her senses into working order, though. "What, mh-no, put me down, Jake." She was mad at him, right? Mad at him, and they were fighting a Titan, and he'd told her to run and the next thing she remembered was this. The scene seemed almost familiar, aside from the being mad at Jake part. "I'm fine," she assured him. Perfectly fine, aside from an aching head and shoulder. Shouldn't be anything too bad. Not to mention the fact she didn't want to remember exactly how warm he was. "I'm fine, so put me down."

"Yes," she said, and she started to squirmed a little bit, to push away. Not with much force, since she really didn't feel like fighting, and she really didn't want to right then. "I'm fine." She suddenly wanted to hit him, or hug him or just yell at him. It was hard to tell which she wanted to do more. "Put me down. Stop acting like you care and go get your damn nicotine box." Never mind the fact that he was responsible for the harness she was wearing.

It was true. He told her he didn't care, yet the way he was acting now... of course she'd be mad. And to think he was the one accusing her of mixed messages.
He released her slowly, letting her feet touch the ground first, but didn't move away in case she still needed support. "I'm sorry for putting you in danger. Promise me you'll at least go to make sure everything's alright."

She was relieved when he complied with her request. If he hadn't, she was worried she would make a fool of herself again. As it was, she reached for support as he let her down, grasping the side of his jacket in her fist. Even when she was comfortably standing she didn't let go of him. The now dull throb of her head was to distracting.
“I am fine. Just need a nap.” She didn't think she was slurring her words or anythng, and Armagnac could handle the bruisung Sherry suspectd would show. “Besides, you didn't put me anywhere. I went in willingly.” And she was a fool.

"Are you sure?" He reached out to touch her head, but then stopped, realizing what he was doing. No, doing that would only confuse her further.
Letting his hand dropped to his side, he lowered his head, not sure what to say. "Promise me you'll at least make sure."

"Yes." It was a lie, she wasn't entirely sure, but she didn't care. The infirmary would just tell her to go and lie down anyway.
Her grip on his coat tightened. "Why? You don't have to feel responsible. My decision, my choice. I knew what I was getting into." Here free hand went to her head. At least the pain was dulling rapidly. She'd likely have a bump for a day or two, but nothing major.
"So stop pretending like you care, because I'm a fool who'll think you really do." Stepping toward him, she hugged him. It was kind of a sad hug, and a selfish hug, too. "And then I'll be foolish and do things like this." He already knew how dense she was when it came to matters like this, he had to know what his concern would do to her, especially so soon.
"So don't be nice to me unless you mean it, because I deserve not to be lied to anymore," she whispered.

Somehow, her tone of voice made him skeptical, but she was right. He shouldn't, but he did. Even though she was the one that agreed to it, he had been the one to ask in the first place, and it was because of his recklessness she had gotten hurt.
"You're not foolish. You never were." He returned her hug, missing the warmth of it. "And I know it doesn't look like it, but I do care. That's why I..." ... no, he shouldn't lie to her anymore, but now... now wasn't the right time. "... I don't want to lose someone else I care about again."
Letting go of her, he stepped back and gave her a bittersweet smile. "Take care of yourself."

What was he talking about, she was foolish. She still was foolish. Only a fool would have helped him after everything, and only a fool relish that hug like she was. She didn't get to enjoy it long, and Armagnac was very pleased by that.
"What does that mean?" She wanted to cry, but she found herself rather agitated again. He didn't care, he couldn't care, not with everything he'd done. And losing someone else again? She knew from what Chester had said he'd lost someone before, but now... Was he meaning her? No, no, she couldn't let herself be deluded by her wishful thinking again. She shouldn't have hugged him or helped him. A mistake, that's what this had been.
"So you'd rather just say good-bye?" She shook her head. "No, I know better. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have..." She sighed.

"If it means keeping you safe, then yes." He reached out, touching her face gently with the back of his hand. "It's not your fault. I'm sorry for hurting you. I only hope you'll really find someone that'll treat you well after all this."

Now she was confused, and that line was still one of the stupidest things she'd ever heard. "You stupid, selfish jerk. You either care or you don't, stop going back and forth about it." Her hand pushed his away as she stepped closer. She just wanted to hate him, and she want to hope. And cry, she wanted to to do that, too.
Reaching out, her fingers touched his face. "And don't...don't wish for me to move on and be happy. I'm not ready to hear that. I was happy, and I thought I was treated just fine." She was either a complete fool when it came to love, or just plain stupid. "And it probably won't be fair to anyone else for a while, either." She'd just want Jake back.
Her fingers left his face, and then came back, fast and hard in a slap. Not the strongest one she'd ever given him, but a slap all the same. "So stop ******** with me. Tell me what I am to you so I can walk away from here not wondering." He said he cared, but was saying goodbye. He'd used her, but cared about her. She was just confused.
Her hand went to his shoulder as she steadied herself. Too agitated. Her head was pounding. Dammit. At least it would help her look angry.
