"I don't think they'd have real elephant ears. That would just be plain cruel," Asher said with a chuckle. "I think they're just meat or pastries or something else edible. I can really imagine the person behind the counter saying: 'No elephants were harmed in the making of these ears.'" He made a note to look for those elephant ears Leo was talking about and let him try them. Well, if they weren't real ears, that is. True to Leo's guessing, the waiter returned with their food and drinks. "There you go! Anything else I can get for you?" he asked with his notepad once again in hand.

Leo couldn't help but laugh at his brother's jokes, he always made him laugh easily. He straightened up a bit when he heard the waiters voice and grabbed his fork without even answering the waiter. Leo was just that hungry; he couldn't help but give a soft smile as he ate, the food really was pretty good. "We should come here again." he said happily, one hand on the plate and one on his fork so he could eat.

Asher had dismissed the waiter after telling him that they didn't need anything else. As he started on his steak, he noticed Leo's happy expression as he dug into his food. "Definitely," was his reply. Maybe they could come back on Leo's birthday or something. There would be time to save up again, and Asher's possible raise should cut said time a bit. Once they finished their food, Asher asked for the bill and, upon receiving it, raised an eyebrow at the price. Well, there went half of a day's income. He had to refrain from sighing, as he didn't want Leo to feel bad or anything. It wasn't like he was already regretting this (they still had money for the fair and groceries), but he did feel a bit discouraged about their getting a better life when everything around them seemed so out of their reach, especially with Asher's low-paying job and all.

Leo was stuffed pretty full, but it was nice to feel this way too. "Are we ready for the fair?" he asked softly, stretching a bit in his seat. "I hope the rides aren't too expensive, we still need to figure out what we're making for dinner tonight too but I think that can wait a few hours. I'm full!" he said happily, already working on wiggling out of the seat and standing with one hand on the table. "I'm going to use the bathroom before we go. Could you help me find it?" he asked feeling a bit embarrassed that he had to ask but it was a new environment and he would rather ask his brother than the loud waiter.

"You don't even have to ask," Asher answered as he took Leo's hand and led him to the nearest restroom. He helped him to the nearest stall. "You think you can locate the toilet from here?" he asked as he held the stall door open. The elder had always been a bit nervous when Leo needed to use the restroom in new places, mainly because his lack of sight was a sure obstacle and the restrooms were usually filthy. He didn't want his little brother tripping and falling into a toilet or worse.

Leo gave a soft laugh. "Yes I'm okay. Go ahead and pay the bill, I'll finish up here and wait for you outside the bathroom door." he instructed his brother. Once Asher left the bathroom Leo continued with his business, making sure to wash his hands after which was easy to do since the sinks were right across from the stall doors as were most sinks in public bathrooms. Once he finished with his hands he did as he had promised and made his way to the bathroom door, slowly walking as he ran his hand against the bathroom wall until he found the doorway. He stood outside of the bathroom door and waited patiently for his brother; one benefit to being blind was he couldn't see any odd looks he might be getting from surrounding guests wondering why he was in front of the bathroom door to begin with.

Asher had quickly left to pay the bill and returned to find Leo outside the bathroom door. "Well, let's get going," he said as he took his brother's hand and led him outside. They continued to walk together until they reached the fair, which Asher could practically hear from a mile away. Screams of joy and laughter reached their ears and jolly, upbeat music traveled throughout the area. Children were dragging their parents to the grounds and maybe a few couples casually strolled through the gates after getting tickets. Colorful tents lined up left and right, with caretakers waiting for someone to play their games or simply buy something from them.

Leo could feel his heart beat faster as they approached the fair, such happy sounds emitted from the fair grounds. The sounds grew louder as they entered, he could smell lots of new food smells he couldn't quite identify just yet. "Lets find the duck game!" he said excitedly as he tugged on Ashers arm a little. Leo kept turning his head this way and that way to hear all of the sounds better but there were so many that he couldn't figure out who or what was making them. "There are so many people. I don't think any of them are noticing my bandage." he said with a smile, finally a place where nobody was staring or taking off his bandage forcing him to play monkey in the middle in order to get it back.

Asher chuckled at Leo's enthusiasm. "We'll find one. There's no need to rush," he said, before starting their trip through the maze of tents. There were a variety of games ranging from coin tossing to basketball to knocking over pins. Eventually, he did find a duck game, which conveniently had some frog plushies. "Leo, they got frogs," he told his brother. "Go ahead and pick a duck."

Leo perked up when he heard his brother tell him there were frog toys, frogs were his favorite. "Really? I'll try to win one!" he said happily, slowly getting down onto his knees so he could find the pool of ducks in water without falling in it. As soon as new patrons arrived the booth teller focused her attention on them. "Welcome to Sitting Ducks!" she said a little too energetically. "The game is fairly simple; pick up a duck from the pool, if it has a one or a two on the bottom you win a super cute froggie! If the duck has a three or a four on the bottom, you'll win one of the alien toys! But if the duck has a six on the bottom you can win one of these great big tigers we have!!" she said as she enthusiastically pointed to each toy she was mentioning. "Sounds easy right? One dollar for duck, try your luck!" she said with a big grin. The girl's enthusiasm made Leo laugh and wonder if the girl was always like this or if it was just the 'act' she put on for the carnival patrons. "What do you think, should I try for a frog and a big tiger?" he asked as he looked up at his brother.

"Seems simple enough. Go ahead," Asher answered as he handed the girl two dollars. He was actually glad these duck games were based on chance. At least Leo had something to enjoy. It just so happened that he liked the duck game, which was a plus. Asher looked away for a moment and saw a group of old-looking kids, probably young teenagers, who looked at Leo as if he was some retarded dog. It seemed they could never go anywhere without someone taking notice of his younger brother.

Leo smiled, he was always glad to know that his brother believed in him, even if it was just for a silly carnival game. He placed his hands on the pool before slipping one hand into the water to see where the water level was at before he decided to pick a duck that was in the middle, or so it felt to him. Leo grabbed the duck and turned it over, facing the bottom toward the lady who ran the booth. "What number is that?" He asked excitedly. The woman looked at the duck with a smile and she started jumping up and down. "That one has a one on the bottom! Which means you get to pick a frog! Which color would you like?" she asked with a cheery smile. Leo couldn't help but giggle a bit childishly. "Can I get a blue frog?" he asked softly. The woman gladly brought one of the blue frogs down and gave it to Leo who immediately began to feel it, examining the toes, mouth, and feet. He stood up and wobbled a bit from a little bit of a head rush. "Look I won a blue frog!!" he said to his brother excitedly. The woman reminded them that they still had one more game left to which Leo accepted the fun challenge and brought his frog back down to the ground with him. "I'll win you a tiger!" he told his brother confidently, trying to get a feel for which ducks would be the lucky ones. After a few seconds Leo grabbed one off to his right and showed the bottom of it to the lady. "What number is this?" he asked curiously. The woman looked at the duck and laughed a bit. "That one is a four! Which means you won an alien! Good job!" exclaimed the lady. Leo was a little disappointed, he was hoping to win the tiger for his brother but he didn't want the disappointment to overwhelm their day at the fair. He accepted the alien with far less enthusiasm than he did for the frog. "Sorry, I tried to get you the tiger. But I guess I didn't grab the lucky duck" he said with a soft chuckle to the little rhyme he made unintentionally.

Asher just smiles and ruffled Leo's hair. "It's no problem. The chances were pretty low," he said. "Now, let's go to another booth. I need to get you something now." He also wanted to get away from the teens, who seemed to act like rabid dogs ready to attack them. They probably wouldn't do anything while the brothers were together, but he didn't want to take any chances. "Maybe we can go see what elephant ears really are."

Leo still felt bad that he couldn't win his brother a toy but then again maybe his brother just wanted to enjoy their time together. "Yeah, lets do that!" he said excitedly, holding both of his toys; he held his frog in his left hand and stuffed about half of the alien in his pocket so he could have at least one hand to hold onto Asher's arm with. Leo hadn't been paying attention to his loosening bandage and with one swift turn of his body it had floated right off of his head. Feeling the cool air on a part of his face where he shouldn't, Leo put a hand against his eye and stopped where he stood. "My bandage..." he said softly, getting onto his hands and knees to try and find it again. "You looking for something cripple?" said a boy who sounded much older; he was hovering over Leo dangling the bandage above the boy's head. The sadistic teenager seemed to enjoy watching Leo crawling. Leo looked up at the direction where he heard the strange voice, eyes open and angry. "Give that back!!" he yelled, lunging up to grab the bandage but the boy quickly pulled it back everytime Leo tried to grab it. Once he saw Leo's eyes, though, he became so disgusted that he threw the bandage back on the ground. "Gladly, nobody wants to see those disgusting things." he said sarcastically as he wandered off. Leo hung his head and tried hard not to cry, reminding himself that he was stronger than this but he couldn't help but agree with the teenager. Nobody wanted to see his disgusting eyes.

Asher had been surprised when Leo let go of his arm, and it didn't take long for him to figure out why. He would have gone after the bully and beat him senseless, but Leo needed comforting right now. For the moment, Asher would let karma catch the offender. Picking up the bandage and cleaning it as best as he could, Asher turned to Leo and he could feel his heart being squeezed. His first instinct was to take him to a bench where they could sit, and then he put the bandage in his brother's hand. "Ignore him, Leo. He's just a moron, nothing more," he said, though he doubted it did anything. Without thinking of anything else to say, Asher embraced his brother and rubbed circles into his back. "If you want to cry, go ahead. Don't hold anything back. Your big brother's got you." He could have sworn there were people who looked at them funny, and he wouldn't blame them. They weren't biological brothers, so of course they would look strange like this. Howevee, he didn't care. 'Say something. I dare you,' he thought as he glared at the onlookers.
