Addison sat on the railing of the porch her feet brushing the bushes below, the kitchen knife across her lap, her elbows on her knees as she lead forward over her mug of coffee which she held with both hands and watched the sunrise. She knew she should be draining her mug and getting started on her plan to protect this house but it had been so long since she could just stop and take a moment that she just couldn't give up this opportunity.
Birds chirped and sang, flying in the sky and hiding in the trees, squirrels jumped from branch to branch chittering away. It seemed so surreal but it seemed normal and while it fascinated her, it also terrified her.
She took another swallow of her coffee, as her eyes followed a squirrel which bounced around energetically, another squirrel, its mate, bouncing along side it. It was strange that nature didn't change with the zombie uprising, only human nature did. Humans had grown too big for their britches, Addison blamed the zombies on biogenetic warfare. She was sure the government had made something they were not suppose to it and it had gotten out and now everyone was paying for it. Addison wondered if across the ocean the other people were suffer as well, or was the zombie problem only on this side of the pond.

Eve slowly sat up and stretched before pulling the sleeping bag tighter around her thin body. "I hate the cold," she grumbled. She was still tired, her nightmares always left her that way. Who could kill these things and not have nightmares about it, especially if some had been family? The tears wouldn't fall anymore though, she'd blocked away those old feelings behind a wall. She wouldn't let them out again.
Getting up out of the chair, causing some joints to pop and Neil to stretch trying to wake up his system. "Lets see what we have today for breakfast." He mumbled to himself as he went over to his bag and produced two cans of soup. "You want the chicken noodle soup or the steak and vegetables?" He asked looking at the labels before looking at her. It wasn't much, but it was the best he could do. Without a burner or even a place for a small fire, they couldn't heat them up much without going outside.

what season are we suppose to be in?
Addison finished her coffee with a sigh tempted to make a second cup but knew if she poured it into her system too quickly and too much too fast she would get a headache from the caffeine overload, besides she wanted to make the coffee she did have last as long as she could. She went back into the house placed the mug in the 'dirty' side of the sink, she'd have to see if she could find some way to clean the dishes without using her drinking water supply.
She decided to fix the house up some and see what she could find useful before exploring the fences across the street, she wouldn't start building until she was sure she could get all the supplies she needed. Wandering around the house, she cleaned up as she went, scooping up trash and shoving it into a trash bag tied at her waist, putting things back on the shelves that had been knocked over or shoved aside.
Addison smiled when she found a broom and pan and started to sweep up broken statues and glass after about three hours she had the entire downstairs cleaned and straighten up, two trash bags sitting at the back door, even the garage had been swept out and straighten out. She put the rag and bottle of pledge back under the kitchen sink before walking over to the dining table and looked over what she found. Two large boxes of nails and screws, a hammer, a phillips screw driver, a flathead and a pair of pliers. The owners obviously were not very home fixing people because they had very little when it came home repairs. She'd have to check the out the second floor to ensure she got everything worth it.
She grabbed a few more trash bags and went to work, another two hours later she was done and had added three rolls of colorful duck tape in an girl's bedroom who obviously loved making duck tape stuff, she found a jewelry fox with cute duck tape bows, necklaces, bracelets, head backs, she had one of the headbands in her hair pushing her bangs from her face. The girl also had a huge book collection Addison was looking forward into diving into. Perhaps she had chosen the best place to settle down in for a while.
Unfortunately she hadn't found any other tools but she would make what she had work, and really it was the nails and hammer she needed the most and the pliers. It was too late in the day to actually break things down but she could go investigate the fences and see how it would be easiest to get the it down and maybe find someway to carry the wood over. She was strong but not that strong.
Addison put her head over her hair covering the headband she hadn't taken off yet, strapped on her weapons and grabbed an empty eco grocery bag just encase she found anything useful to take with her and went outside and across the street.
"Doesn't matter," Eve yawned. Truth was she wasn't hungry. She was used to going without food. She ran a hand through her filthy hair, really wishing she could shower and get a change of clothes that didn't have dirt and blood on them. She also longed for a heater or even an electric blanket. The weather was starting to get too cold for her.

Neil looked and handed her the chicken noodle soup as he told her, "If you don't want it now, then you can save it for later." Taking the other can with him, he popped off the top and began to eat it as he packed up his notebook and his small odds and ends. Since it was late fall and not to far away from winter, he knew that he would need a place to stay. Even tho the zombies moved slower in the colder months, it also made things harder for him. The soup tasted rough being cold but he had long since gotten used to it. It was true that his traps would slow and stop some zombies and gave them some room, but a safe house was always best and rather hard to set up. "I'm gonna go out and see about some of the other places." He told her pulling on his pack and checking his hunting knife on his thigh. Setting the now empty can on the table he turned towards the door. His pistol was sitting on the table towards the back and leaning against the wall was a basic long sword in a plain sheath.

Addison ensured her house was locked well so walkers couldn't get inside, she also set up a trap just before the front porch stairs and the back door. She checked her handy work and grinned, she should find a walker hanging upside down on either trap should they cross the threshold. She would kill it then get it down. It was a simple trap but effective, she had used it before.
Outside the sun was high in the air but it didn't do much for the autumn chill, she tugged her jacker closer and walked across the street, so far not seeing any zombies. Her hand ran over the wooden fence, it was in good condition meaning it would be hard and loud to get down. She opened the gate peeking in knife in hand incase of any zombies but found the backyard deserted. Addison stepped inside and reviewed the fence, heavy nails held them in place, she wrinkled her nose this was going to be hard work. The posts were sturdy and that is were she needed to undo fence so she could take it in sections and not piece by piece.
Addison pulled a cellphone out of her pocket and took some pictures, she had a stash of picture phones and batteries in her bag, she figured someone had to record this new world somehow. She did have a Polaroid in her bag, but she had long ran out of instant film, she kept the camera instead she found more, so now she took cell phone pictures, once a phone was full she'd turn it off to save the battery power. She would study the pictures later and see how best she could detach the sections. Now she needed to find something to drag the sections across the street.
She could make a pulley system if she had enough rope, two parallel ropes with a section on top, she could pull on both ropes to make it rotate and slide the sections over to her side but the walkers might get attracted to the noise and movement. Unless she found something else it might be her only option...if she had enough rope....
Addison went into the house to see what she could find, she killed two walkers before gathering up another tin of coffee and sugar as well as a few jars of baby food, hey food was food. She didn't find much else she could use, the place seemed to have already been cleaned out. Her eyes did widen when she found the box of SM sex toys in the master bedroom. For such a normal looking house they had a nice dark kinky secret, she couldn't help her grin anyways.
Once she finished looking through the house, she left to investigate the next one. She walked along the side walk, looking around at the other houses and fences.

Eve stuffed the can in her pratically flat pack. "I'm coming with you," she said. "I can fight." She had a pistol that she always wore in a western style holster she's managed to make. Really though she didn't want to be left alone with the prospect that he might not return. That would make her all alone again and she really didn't want that at all.
Neil looked back at her and raised his eyebrow slowly. "Alright. Just keep close, quiet and do not fire your pistol." He instructed her slowly and carefully. Since the gunfire would only draw in more zombies, he didn't carry his pistol around much. Only was he moving from city to city or to another house did he really carry everything he had. Since she was coming with him, he took and set some rags over his sword and pistol to hide them from view. Without another word he turned and opened the door slowly. Moving outside he checked around for any zombies quickly. Then the moved through the front yard and onto the streets. He took a rock that had a small amount of paint on it out of a small side pocket on his pack. Setting it on the street he used it as a marker, just in case he forgot which building he had set up in. He had picked over some of the houses close to the one they were in. Looking down the street he pointed to a slightly ran down house that was overgrown. That was the house he was planning on looking over. Moving slowly and keeping an eye open for zombies he slowly moved down the street.

(how much time is suppose to have passed since it started?)
Addison heard the sound of a door closing, it was very faint but with her alertness she just barely heard it. She froze and turned slowly towards where she thought she heard the sound, knife ready in her hand as she studying the houses around her before seeing a boy and a girl crossing a yard heading towards her, well towards the house just up from her.
She knew from past experiences that not humans were good, not just in BZ but in AZ too. It was strange to see people, she had avoided them since...well for a while now. They looked around her age. Addison wanted to stick around for a while and if they staying here they would notice her building a fence, no point in hiding from them just to have them notice her later.
Addison stepped out into the street right where they could see her, she had her hands at her side but she was still armed, she waited.
Eve followed him. She moved silently and kept close to him.
(Short I know but a lot to do atm. And the timelapse is up to Demon.)

(Been only a year but a lot death and destruct in the short time.)
Neil had been moving slowly but he got a feeling that someone was watching them. He didn't like the feeling and couldn't shake the thought that they might end up with a bullet in their heads. Stopping and slowly looking around for any eyes or anybody. Looking at first at the roofs and the windows of the houses around them, thinking that that would be where he would set up. Turning around his eyes fell on the woman that was standing on the street. His hand moved towards his thigh that his knife was strapped to. Since she hadn't attack them, he assumed that she wouldn't. After only a moment of thought his hand shifted a little away from the knife as a show of good faith and he took a step towards her as he said to Eve, "Seems we're not that alone."

Addison shifted her hand when she saw his hand go for his knife, ensuring it caught the sun so the boy would see she was not unarm and would be ready to defend herself if needed. They looked like they had been in the wild for a while but then who hadn't.
Seeing his hand move away from his knife, she moved forward but she didn't put her knife away, she had been tricked before plus she didn't have a sheath for the kitchen knife so she had no where to actually put it.
She stopped when they were about 10 feet from each other, "thats far enough," she said.
"Pass through or settling?" she asked them.

Eve moved out from behind him. She hadn't touched her weapons at all. In fact she was shivering from the cold. Her eyes were tired and slightly hollow. That was due to all she had to do. Sometimes she could hide it but not always.
Neil noticed the knife as was a little uncomfortable with it out, but she wasn't being aggressive and she didn't seem treating. Stopping once she had said that's far enough he looked her over slowly. She seemed more prepared to survive than Eve. Scratching his chin slowly he thought a moment and said, "Haven't decided yet. Winter's getting ready to set, so need to set up somewhere soon. And you?"
He made sure to keep his hand away from his knife, if she did chose to attack he would be hard pressed to get his knife out before she struck. So he was hoping to keep the meting nonviolent and avoid bloodshed.
