That was a tough one. Gale pondered this for a long moment, his brows drawing together as he thought.

"Favorite color," he said finally.

"Fruit!" she corrected with a grin. "My favorite color flips between red and pink, and my favorite letter is X. It's symmetrical and mysterious~" She even wiggled her fingers to prove it, which was also her signal for him to go next.

"Oops," he said, and laughed. "But this is good to know, I'll have to remember all of this for future reference."

He leaned back and thought for a moment.

"I like dogs better than cats, the scent of vanilla is my favorite smell, and I have a really terrible sense of direction."

"Death is all about information gathering, right? This should be easy~"

She coughed into her arm as Gale listed off the choices, tilting her head in thought. "I wanna say . . . Vanilla?" she guessed, since it was hard to gauge pets at Deus, and as far as her experience went Gale had been pretty set in his special awareness.

This time his smile was radiant.

"I actually am not really an animal person and at all, and I can find my way around relatively easily once I've done it the first time. I like vanilla because it's simple and something pleasant."

"Your turn."

Stormy tugged her hair a little bashfully at that smile, returning it with a little one of her own. "Freebie: I like vanilla, cinnamon, and the smell of winter," she told Gale. "You know, like when you step outside while it's cold and you can smell someone's chimney, and there's pine needles adding to the scent, and it's a little sharp because it's cold? That smell.

"Real deal: I'm left handed, I used to have blond hair, and I almost needed glasses when I was a kid."

Inside of his head, Gale's Death-oriented mind was already filing away each and every little thing that Stormy was telling him, secluding it away so that when the time came he would be able to remember things about her.

He loved this - learning all these little details, learning everything that made Stormy Stormy. It was like finding all the correct puzzle pieces to put in each spot, and not the confusing mess of a puzzle, either, but the fun sort of relaxing and feel-good puzzle that made you want to do more, to learn more.

"The glasses one," said Gale, after a moment.

She grinned and shook her head, lifting her left hand to wave a little. "I was devastated I couldn't use it after Jake's mission for a week. No writing or drawing or training or anything. But thankfully my eyes have always been pretty normal. Never had blond hair, but if I did I would have been such a stereotypical airhead, huh?"

"Seems like we both have a thing about our hands and arms getting out of commission," said Gale, a little dryly, and reached out to take Stormy's left hand, sliding his fingers through hers. "But," he said. "At least we both got the use of them back, because otherwise we wouldn't be able to do this very well, now would we?"

He smiled at her, enjoying the feel of her palm against hers and then said, "All right, my turn." Gale lapsed into a thoughtful silence for a few seconds before he spoke again, and he looked up at her, his eyes dancing a little.

"I like green tea the best, I've never ridden a horse, and I would very much like to kiss you again sometime."

"Perks of being a hunter, right? You get to experience fast healing," she added airily as their fingers entwined, trying to sniffle and failing as her nose remained very stuffed still. "Hopefully it works on this headcold or whatever it is . . ." But Stormy smiled through it regardless, because she was sure they could hold hands a million times and she'd still feel as good about it as she did right now.

That feeling turned to something more bashful at his options. "Ah . . . when I'm not sick, then," she agreed with a small shake of their hands, hoping her cheeks weren't turning red again. "I'd be gross and snotty and coughing all over you otherwise. That's what couples do, anyway. Kiss, I mean. They . . . do things like that a lot . . ."

She coughed to try and save herself.

"If I had gotten to go to college, I would have majored in Music, English, or Education?"

He was trying to hide a smile, Gale squeezing her fingers gently. "I'm just teasing you," he said. "I know now isn't the best time, I just like seeing you blush because you're very cute when you do."

His own cheeks were pink at his own forwardness (who knew?), but there was also clear amusement, Gale's eyes twinkling with mischief. He felt almost giddy with pleasure, and it was such an odd feeling. He hadn't smiled this much since he was a little kid. Hell, most of those on the island knew he didn't smile much, but something about being with Stormy made him want to smile practically every second.

"Music," said Gale decisively, after a moment. "Because you sing a lot."

Dang it they were red weren't they.

Stormy tried to rub the color form her cheeks with her free hand, though it was hard to when she was grinning triumphantly at him. "No, but I'd tricked you into thinking that, huh?" she chirped, squeezing his fingers a little. "Music was gonna be my minor. English was gonna be my major because I wanted to be a writer when I grew up~

"Bonus round: what instrument do I play? The clarinet, the guitar, or the piano?"

He made a face. "You led me on, with all that bird song of yours," he said, but Gale was smiling, and he was, of course, not really irritated. He curled his fingers around Stormy's and squeezed back, trying to ignore the stupid look he probably had on his face.

"...er," said Gale, since he had no idea that she even played an instrument. He thought for a minute, and then said tentatively, "...piano?"

She looked all the more triumphant at having him look caught off guard, and certainly pleased that her snatches of songs weren't just warbling to him. "That's a trick question actually, but you picked the most correct," she told Gale with a little nod. "Piano I've done since I was five. I tried the guitar for about a year and a half, and clarinet was what I played in the school band for about, ah . . . five years between middle and high school, which is, um . . . a little before primary school starts for you I think? Think like that. The rest I spent in the choir."

Her fingers wiggled a little idly between his. "I stopped playing piano about a year before the Deus recruiter found me," Stormy added casually, then gestured towards him. "Gotta stop attention hogging; your turn!"

"It's more than I could ever do," said Gale ruefully, marveling quietly at just how big Stormy's world was, just how many things she could and couldn't do. It would never cease to amaze him, and he hoped he would never get to stop learning about her.

"All right fine." He considered a bit, swinging their hands a little in an almost distracted gesture, and then said,

"I used to play chess with my mates in secondary school, I used to have a cat named Knickerbocker, and I don't like popcorn with butter."
