Something about being with Stormy made Gale feel as though he wasn't quite as alienated from the rest of the world as he often felt. He knew he had Bix, and Marcus, and Candace, and even Eva, if he didn't think too hard about it. But in spite of the fact that he cared a great deal for them, being younger meant that there was a certain disconnect, an invisible line drawn between them, whether he liked it or not. And with Stormy, there was no line.

"I think," said Gale. "You probably make the best analogies. I wish I had your mind, I can't quite think as fast or as clever as you."

He turned around and stuck his hands under the faucet, cleaning off a bit of dried blood on his hands and then rummaged around for a towel, listening silently as Stormy spoke. When she held out her hand, he smiled back, reaching out to take hers, letting her finish the poem inside of her head.

"So does that mean you're leading me to a restaurant with oyster shells?" Gale asked, lightly teasing.

She opened one eye briefly to give him a little wink at the compliment because, well, why not? Today was a whimsical day and she wanted to take advantage of that. But she wasn't so sure she had the right kind of clever mind, because if she did then maybe she wouldn't attract trouble so often...

"Maaaaybe~" Stormy answered with a little hum, pleased to have his hand. She lifted them up a bit as if about to start a dance, following the contours of the kitchen as she moved them. Where to? Nowhere yet, since she didn't want a forced exit or to explore without his permission; it was a sudden impulse she wanted to explore, and with Gale she felt comfortable enough to do so. Her steps were light and went from toe to heel, making very little noise.

"Is that what you want your dinner from? I still owe you a meal after the Argus deal, you know. Sounds like a place of seafood and yellow smoke in the form of a cat~"

The wink made him grin, Gale pushing away from the counter to follow her around the kitchen, shifting easily from one foot to the other. And despite the fact that his head was still throbbing, he felt more relaxed than he had in a rather long time.

"Yes," said Gale, and lifted their hands, twirling Stormy around in a slow circle. "In a place by the sea and down half deserted streets. Otherwise probably known as the Deus Ex Machina cafeteria, since that's really the only food place around here."

He shrugged, still smiling. "Unless you wanna take a portal somewhere else, that is."

The twirl was unexpected, but she went with it as smoothly as if they had planned it, punctuated only by a soft giggle. "Streets that follow like a tedious argument," she agreed, "of insidious intent." Though thankfully they hadn't been accosted by more shadowlings on the way over, Stormy had to wonder what life was like in the towns at night, where the living shadows all hunters had seen before arriving to Deus lingered.

"To lead you to an overwhelming question…" She paused in her dance, and then neatly turned on her heel to face him as her eyes opened. "Where should we eat?" she asked, and laughed again. "Hmm . . . Making you choose from the cafeteria isn't much of a reward. And I haven't used my day off yet . . . So if you want to go out somewhere specific, I'll follow your lead! And if you'd rather stay in, we can, um . . . I can think of something. D'you do fruit smoothies?"

He was grinning widely now, Gale swinging their hands a little as Stormy turned to face him. "The cafeteria isn't really...well, nice," he agreed, and laughed a little. "It's not exactly what I would call prime eating."

Light brows rose at her offer, Gale tilting his head a little in mild surprise. "I have several unused days off," he said. "I haven't really found a use for them yet, so I can make the time if you wanna go somewhere that doesn't use plastic utensils and styrofoam trays."

He gestured towards the front door. "I don't think I've ever had a fruit smoothie, but it sounds good."

Several? You could take a weekend off from here if you wanted, every month . . . It sounded like a dream. "So like a restaurant?" she suggested, adding to the swinging of their hands until they were making little u's and even swaying a bit with them herself. "Or a grab and go? We could just get some fresh fruit from outside and I'll show you the wonders of a mango banana smoothie~ Or a papaya one, those are great~"

Because it was a total shame Gale hadn't had a fruit smoothie yet.

"Actually, who says we can't do both? Get some real food, then get some real groceries and get some smoothie on!" Back to the little dance she led him on with a pleased hum, this time inching them towards the door. "You should tell me what sort of food you're in the mood for first. And how do portals work anyway? Are they only for the big cities, or can we list one and the techs and put us anywhere?"

"Well," said Gale thoughtfully, following obediently after Stormy. "I say we do both. We both have some free time, so why not? I'd say, after all the things we've been through while here, we deserve some time off to ourselves."

He couldn't remember the last time he'd had time off to himself, come to think of it. And he especially hadn't ever just gone somewhere with someone just for fun, except for that one time with Candace, and that felt like so long ago.

"I like Chinese," Gale admitted, somewhat hesitantly. "But we can get whatever you're in the mood for," he added. "And portals work the latter - we point, we go."

"Excellent! Chinese it is~" She spun herself slowly to punctuate it, then slid her hand out of Gale's so she could shrug her coat off and set it on the counter. "I'll leave this here since I guess we shouldn't be in uniform around muggles..." Frankly Stormy wanted to go back and freshen up, but that took effort and time from their impromptu day off.

"Is there a city in particular you wanted to go to?" she asked. "I went to a place once in New York, but it can get a little crowded and noisy..." It was times like this she wished they could just hop on home; there'd been multiple Chinese places she had frequented there, and Mongolian, and Vietnamese, and she was making herself hungry and homesick.

"Anywhere that has good food," he answered her. "I'm not picky, but I've also not really been anywhere fun. Maybe you can find something for us? Do you know of a good place that has good Chinese food that isn't, er...China, since I don't speak Chinese?"

"Anywhere? Then all the world's a stage~"

She'd think of something for sure on the way over (all good things required a little bit of thought), but for now Stormy paused to look at him with a bright smile. "Thank you, by the way," she said. "I haven't gotten to do anything like today in a long, long while, with the pirates and the little dance thing and . . . So . . . thanks for indulging me and my silliness, Gale."

Another pause. She bridged the gap between them with a few steps and held her arms out, tentative but a bit needy.

"I would like to hug you. Is that okay?"

She'd seen how not so touchy he was, and how he didn't like people fussing . . . And Stormy herself wasn't one to often break past personal bubbles either. But she felt like it was necessary, that it was right to ask in case it wasn't right at all and just in her head.
