(Rynsemth and Wen) (Tags to Cai and Miath!) Rynsemth soothed, shifting so Miath could join him on his perch. The black reached over, nuzzling Miath. The black rumbled, pleased for the pair. "I was hoping you would join me, Cai." Wen smiled, turning his attention fully to Cai. "Two greens have impressed safely, and the rain does not seem to cause any sort of ill effects on the little ones." He glanced at Jemi, noticing she was completely caught up in the hatching. "You came just in time. It seems a blue just impressed. I hope you have been well."

Nothing could ever go well, could it?
Bereck muttered something unprintable under his breath as the boldly marked blue lashed out at candidates in his way to his rider, but at least it looked like everyone who had been caught was still vertical.
"Get them patched up, get them back out if they're capable of Standing still," Bereck said, raising his voice a little so as to be audible to the rest of the healers. The first one to come within his reach was a white-faced girl with lacerations to her left thigh. Sticking his cane into the sand Bereck dropped awkwardly to his knees and grabbed the supplies he needed: rewort to clean, then numbweed, then bandages. As his hands ran through familiar motions he glanced over at Becka to see how she was faring.
--------------
Sometimes he wasn't quite sure what he was doing with Rochelle, not in a bad way or anything just... he didn't know what he ought to do. He found himself smiling a lot with her, and then when she left scowling and muttering as he tried to work out what he ought to do. He... he did really like her but he was pretty sure she liked Aleck and even if she didn't she didn't like him, not like that.
Being around her still made him happy though, and so even though he didn't have much interest in watching a crowd of idiots Impress he had agreed to come with her to the Hatching. They were late, but C'tis' large shoulders and boots found them a place to sit.
"You're a disgrace," he murmured under his breath, "you should have timed your life perfectly around the gestation of a gold and dropped everything at the first hint of a dragon musical number. Shame on you Rochelle. Shaaame.... And. You're welcome." The mock scowl he had put of gave way to a nearly-smile, and he added a small nod to it. "The loud one was a blue," he added, "looks like it clawed a few people. Impressed now though... Was that the one you meant?"

Before Corloss could do anything, however, the stalking blue changed directions. As he was closest to Roan, before he could do anything to evade or get out of the way, sharp claws tore up his leg, leaving lines of crimson against the white fabric.
He stumbled back, bleeding, and re-established a safe distance from the blue. Shells! A quick assessment - he was reluctant to take his eyes off the blue but it was necessary - reassured him that while the claw-marks weren't pleasant, they hadn't severed a major blood vessel or anything else that would require immediate Healer attention. And he could still keep his weight on it, although it throbbed unpleasantly for him to do so.
The blue kept circling, kept slashing at other boys, opening up a ring around Roan, and Corloss braced himself for the final strike. This was predator behavior, the actions of a feline separating out its intended prey from the herd... He almost thought the worst was going to come when the blue reared up, but then he... nuzzled Roan?
That was an Impression?
...Faranth's golden egg. Dragons were weird, and Corloss felt like he would never understand them.

(Nash, Vail)
Don't... shaff it. Naanash frowned as the dragon managed to claw the candidate that went to help the other boy that the dragon singled out. And a few others but the lack of spurting blood meant mostly shallow wounds and the mauled seem to be able to walk. No one had collapsed though the sand was getting unsettling red.
Fragging crackskull dragons. All of that for an impression? Naanash snorted and moved carefully to Corloss. "Did he just manage to scratch you?" He asked quietly. There was blood but not the amount that required immediate action. He wondered if they would be overly upset if he had his flit bring him a few things to clean out the wound.
Vaail glanced at his twin, back to the dragons and back again before grumbling and moving closer to them, just to watch out for his twin's back.

Becka wasn't doing too badly treating the less badly clawed in the trickle of candidates that came over, she was cleaning the wounds with the redwort and wasn't having any frightening flashbacks so far. The numbweed she applied sparingly, too much on legs would be a bad thing, and binding them carefully, not too tightly but tight enough that it would aid in keeping the wounds from bleeding too badly. Most would be able to head right on back to the Sands in front of the clutch if they wanted, the worse off of the patients were subject to the more qualified Healers to tell them what to do.
When she'd finished she looked over at Bereck, wondering if he approved.

Mine let's go, I'm hungry. Came that voice again, Roan was almost stone still, he couldn't believe he had just impressed this blue. This blue that had practically tore up everyone around him.
It took Roan a moment before he felt his body relax and he smiled reaching down and, warily, running his fingers over those dark eye ridges. "You're right." HE wasn't sure how to speak through the link so he just said it outloud. "Definitely time to eat and find some space." He was grinning now and he lead the smallish blue away. Completely happy with how things had gone, the fact that his dragon had beaten up everyone around him slipping his mind until a later date.
Finally! I'm starving! The little blue followed along, not behind Roan but beside him, keeping somewhat of a distance. He hissed at those around him and Roan, his bubble was not for invading. He was still growling some as they made their way to where the other candidates with dragons were feeding them. He didn't even wait for his rider and went and sat off to the side, Here is good. Now feed your Syriacuth.

Apparently unhappy with the attention being diverted from him the blue who had burst from the vibrant egg cried out once more and flared his pale wings not in threat, but in display. The egg goo dripping off him may have slightly spoiled the effect, but if it did it looked like there would be no telling him that.
Boldly patterned tail swishing backwards and forwards he set off towards the candidates, bold and confident and moving slowly to give everyone more time to admire him.
The dark blue still had no made a sound, and he spared his loud blue brother no more than a moment's glance. Clearly he was a dragon on a mission, an important one but not one he feared. He would find a right mind to fit with his, he could feel it out there and so all that remained was to pinpoint it.

One large gold tail thumped heavily against the sand, a low hiss emitting from Cepheith. A warning for the hatchlings to behave themselves. There would be no blood spilled here! They'd just dried the Sands out, after all! They are feisty. She mused with a hint of pride to her rider, lowering her head so Narisa could scratch above her eyeridges. Which she did. To calm herself more than her dragon.
The Goldrider's heart beat heavily as she watched the hatchlings stalk the Candidates. Oh how she remembered being on the receiving end of such a stare! Cepheith had been like that. "That they are. I hope they don't frighten the Candidates too much... " Narisa added.
Again she felt her body tense, but the young Blue had found His. Narisa sighed, smiling briefly before her attention was drawn towards the loud Blue.
You are quite handsome, my young one. Cepheith rumbled towards the Blue in approval.
Don't encourage that behavior! Narisa scolded, already feeling bad for whatever Candidate the hatchling choose. She had to admit she was amused by him. And his sister flopped on top of an egg.

[Rochelle]
The glass worker squirmed herself in after him and flopped rather gracelessly next to him. Like she often did when they sat near to each other, Rochelle leaned against his arm, though this time her attention fell to the sands, squinted eyes and wrinkled nose. They had a good view and it wasn't quite hot enough for her to feel sticky and gross while leaning as she did.
"You're a smartass." Rochelle grinned, teeth bright on tanned olive skin. The bright smile turned to a fierce gnaw on the curve of his shoulder in perfect gnawing range, warmed by the sun. A very small elbow pushed against him when Rochelle pulled away, chuckling, and peered at the hatchlings. "I think so. Or - oh! No, the new one still by the eggs? The other one went to that boy, right? It's hard to know when we're not Candidates. Oh - wait, no, no, I see blue wings."

[Kaeyne]
The Weaver flinched in sympathy. With the heat being what it was, and the damp, he'd done away with his usual knot of hair and secured it instead with a length of cloth. Twisted into a knot usually worked but...well, rampaging baby dragons. He edged towards Naanash and Corloss, long thin fingers pulling free the (for lack of better words) ribbon. Wide as his wrist and length of his forearm... it could help?
"Maybe this will help until the healers get here?" The Candidate held out the cloth without actually managing to look anything but mildly concerned. Perhaps. He was pretty sure he looked somewhat concerned for Corloss' well being there.

Becka turned her head towards the sands as she heard a call from that show-off blue. Oh!.. the green was still flopped on top of that egg and the first blue that Hatched was still on the Sands, Oh she hoped they'd Impress quickly and without much more violence. She blinked hard a couple of times and turned her attention to the injured once more.

Having dealt with the patients who needed it Bereck glanced again to Becka and nodded slightly when she looked his way, the small gesture indicating approval in her performance. Now however there was a rather more difficult task than patching up claw wounds for him to attend to. He had to stand up. Setting his jaw Bereck grasped the edge of one of the tables with one hand and pushed himself upright with his right leg. Ow. He was upright now though and without having made a spectacle of himself, so on balance he felt that things had gone rather well.
Peering over his reading glasses - he didn't feel like switching back to his normal ones - he watched as a rather pretty very loud blue approached the candidates. That made quite a tally of greens and blues all in a row, somebody was going to be disappointed. For some reason that made him feel a little smug and he felt rather juvenile and petty for that; he was fifty for shards' sake, far too old to be mentally thumbing his nose at people with attitudes that annoyed him.
...
Ha-ha!
***********
Green, green, green, blue, blue, blue. It was merely coincidence that they were all hatching in a group like this Kleos supposed, there were a couple of eggs out there which she suspected were browns or bronzes. The other four remaining eggs could be either greens and blues, or atypicals.
She would be lying if she said she didn't hope to see a crimson amongst them. She might not be convinced they were innately better than others as her dragon was but she had to admit to being biased, and that seeing a red hide always brought a smile to her lips.
***********
...Had she just?
"Rochelle, I'm a jerk not jerky, don't eat me."
C'tis was grinning as he spoke and his tones grumbled playfully rather than crossly. The biting was new but he couldn't say he especially objected. At all. In fact, well, shards it would be interesting to have her nibbling on him like that in a different situation.
Mmmh, oh yes.
"Mmmh? Oh, yes."
C'tis peered down at the Sands again and nodded. "I see him, bright little bugger. I was looking at the one mauling people." And at Rochelle's cleavage, but nevermind.

Corloss had gotten up and moved in Roan's direction - all for nothing, apparently, as the blue simply mauled Corloss before...Impressing to Roan? Ildresaak frowned and moved forward across the Sands, headed in Corloss's direction as Roan headed off. The boy hadn't even spared Corloss a second glance, and Ildresaak frowned, fighting down the feeling of annoyance. The least he could have done was say thank you...but he supposed that Impression might do something to you. Maybe Roan would thank him later.
Regardless, Ildresaak was moving as soon as the blue impressed, headed down toward Corloss and drawing alongside him just in time to get a look at the vivid red claw-marks on Corloss's leg. "Faranth -"
At the newest dragonet's bugle, he flinched a little, glancing in the direction of the Vibrant hatchling but looking back to Corloss, Naanash, and and Kaeyne as the other men closed in on his friend. "Faranth, Corloss, are you okay?" Kaeyne was offering a ribbon, and Ildresaak frowned a little. "Is it bad? If it's not bad, you can just apply pressure til the healers get here." Cuts and scrapes and burns were normal parts of life at Smithcraft Hall, and Ildresaak was fairly adept at basic first aid.
That other blue, the dark one, got a wary eye cast in his direction, but Ildresaak didn't spare much interest in it. He wasn't actively mauling anyone, and thus wasn't as much of a concern as the fact that Corloss was bleeding.

That little gesture from Bereck was better than any words of praise most people could give. It meant she'd done a good job and Bereck approved, the fact he wasn't just her Master but her parental figure too .. the approval meant the world to her and she beamed happiness as she looked back at him.
She frowned just a little as he got up, ready to go over and help him up if he needed it, he wouldn't want it, and she hated to make him feel old but after his injuries he was lucky he was even mobile at all. Now she was finished with the wounded she turned her attention back to the clutch.. and the candidates.. OH!.. there was one still over there ... he didn't look too badly hurt though otherwise surely someone would have called over to the healers. While she didn't ignore it, she'd keep it at the back of her thoughts unless the situation turned worse for the candidate.

Well, that was what he got for sticking his big nose in when he didn’t know much about dragons, he supposed. Properly chastened, Corloss’ ears flushed faintly pink in embarrassment when he realized that he’d attracted a crowd. Only three people, in truth, but it felt like more when Nash, Kaeyne, and Ildresaak were converging on him.
“Yeah, he got me pretty good, but I think it’s shallow. I can put weight on it and it’s not bleeding too badly.” There would be the issue of infection, but that wasn’t an immediate worry the way that more serious damage would be.
Corloss glanced warily over at the Vibrant blue when it cried out loudly, but it didn’t seem to be aggressive. Just wanting attention. Sharding noisy little thing. He took the ribbon from Kaeyne and knelt down so that he could at least tie it around the wound. It’d help stop the bleeding and keep any more sand from getting in it. Some of the other Candidates who’d been scratched were hobbling over towards the healers, he could see, and he knew he’d have to go over there eventually to get it cleaned out with redwordt. But for now, he didn’t really want to leave the sands. Faranth knew that Ildresaak would need someone to stand with him to keep his confidence up.
“Watch my back in case another dragon gets the urge to go Candidate-hunting?” he asked the group as he set to work applying pressure and tying the ribbon up like an impromptu bandage.

The bright blue continued on his stately way towards the candidates, making sure they saw him to his best advantage. Anyone who wasn't looking... well he couldn't understand why they weren't. He gave another shrill cry for good measure, and then crooned as more heads tuned to him; yes hello lovely people, he was lovely was he not? Where some dragons stand on ceremony, others simply move quietly to get the job done. Like a still lake at midnight given wings and a will the dark blue hatchling came to a halt before Corloss and sat down quite calmly, as though he had known this was inevitable from the start.
