Beta just smiled. "If you say so. I guess it's not smart to argue with Mama, right?" Delta huffed and snuggled close to his mother.
Itzal gave a slight shrug, finally opening his eyes and shifting so that he could inspect Jaromila. "I'm not used to that type of attack. If anyone in the south possesses that ability, they keep it to themselves."

Serenity smiled, she was glad that Beta had learned that much, it made her feel better.
"Glad you are learning, dear, would be worried if you didn't,"Serenity teased, nuzzling her daughter.
"I would not be surprised if someone in the south could do that. There are many different types there, just like there is here,"Jaromila explained.

Beta giggled, nuzzling her mother back. She blinked when she felt Delta climbing her side so he could nuzzle Serenity too. Two little dragon wings peeked out from underneath the blanket, spread wide to support the unsteady foal. Beta smiled sadly at the sight. "He has Reth's wings."
Itzal shrugged again. "I guess so. But even if there are, I doubt they're as... open about it as Beta is. It may be as diverse as the north, but there's a dramatic contrast in mentality."

Serenity saw the wings and heard what her daughter said, knowing it saddened her little girl.
"He will make those wings look wonderful, I know it. Though looks like Grandma is going to have to teach at least one of your foals how to fly now,"Serenity smiled, allowing the foal to come to her.
"No, I would think those in the south would not want such information to come out. I can only assume their mentality is different than our own,"Jaromila nodded.

Beta nodded, the sad smile lingering on her face as she looked up at her mother. "It looks like it." Reth had enjoyed flying... Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, she smiled more brightly at Serenity. "Maybe Cairbre will be willing to help too." His wings were made of glowsticks, but they were still wings.
Delta had shrunk back at his mother's sad tone, but perked up at her last statement. He flapped his wings and squeaked as he nuzzled his mother. "Pah!"
"The southern mentality couldn't be more different than yours," he replied simply. "There are variations and outliers, but the majority's mentality includes a hatred of humans, a love of bloodlust, and a strong belief in the 'might is right' concept." Itzal let his eyes slide closed. "This place is so peaceful and open in comparison. It's almost stifling..."

Serenity could see her daughter was saddened by the fact her son had the wings of her father and she thought of some way to comfort her.
"I am sure Cairbre would not mind helping him learn to fly, dear. I only had one of your siblings to teach, since only one had my wings. It will be nice to teach another one to fly and help is always welcome,"Serenity assured.
"Yes, I have had encounters with those of the South, I know they think differently than we do. It saddens me that we cannot all just get along,"Jaromila admitted. Her own mother feared humans, which was probably why everyone was surprised when she bonded with Lady Dea.

 Beta smiled and nodded. "I hope he sticks around." She glanced away, still smiling. "I really like when Cai--" "Pah!" The mare blinked as she looked down at her son. "Pah?" "Pah-pah!" Beta's expression softened as she nuzzled her little boy. "Cairbre's your papa, huh? I like the sound of that...""And that's why you'll never get along with them... Well, as least most of them. Apparently you're already acquainted with at least one. ... I didn't expect to see you here, D'von.""I didn't expect to see you crawl out from underneath the rock you were hiding under," D'von replied flatly. "Obnoxious as ever, I see." This time, Itzal earned an eyeroll. "As blunt as ever, I see."

Serenity heard the exchange between mother and son and she smiled, she hoped Cairbre was the one, for her daughter's sake. She could see how Beta had fallen for the stallion and she really wanted her daughter to be happy.
"I hope he stays too, my dear, i can see you really like him. Seems Delta does too,"Serenity spoke.
"D'Von....Itzel...do you two really have to get into it here? Yes,I know D'von, as you can see,"Jaromila responded.

Beta looked up and smiled at her mother. "Of course he does. Cairbre was the second person he saw. Hm... well, more like fifth, but..." That was only if she counted the other foals. Looking down at her boy, her smile widened. "I feel safe around Cairbre, so Delta feels safe around him too." Her gaze went back to Serenity. "And who's safer than Papa?"
"Don't mind me. I'm just here to get some fruit for Nae." Itzal lifted his head at this. "... You mated?" D'von didn't respond until he'd plucked an apple from a nearby tree and set it down next to him. "Yeah. Problem with it?" "No... I just figured Barb would hand-pick who you ended up with." "As far as dear old Mother's concerned, I'm dead. So I don't care what she thinks. ...What about you? I figured they wouldn't let you anywhere near the border." Itzal went quiet for a moment before replying. "They probably didn't stop me because they didn't want to be the ones to set off the semi-dormant volcano." D'von snorted and snatched another apple from the tree. "Well, that's one way to make people leave you alone."
Haides watched the conversation with mild interest. "... You seem well-acquainted." D'von shrugged. "That's what happens when you put two hell-stricken colts in the same vicinity as each other." "That, or they kill each other." The dragon stallion sighed. "I see you still have no filter." "... Ah. I said something too morbid, didn't I?" "By my standards, no. By theirs, probably." D'von blinked when he saw Haides smile. "What?"
Haides shook his head. "It's nothing. You just reminded me of something." It was like watching him and Beta when they were younger, except, well... more sarcastic and blunt.

Serenity laughed lightly, yes, sometimes foals had a tendency to feel close to those who they saw first.
"A father is very much someone who can keep one safe. I know my own would have done anything for me, if he had lived to do so,"Serenity replied.
"Well, you two seem to get along quite swimmingly, don't you? How is Nae doing, D'von?"Jaromila asked.

Beta blinked slowly. "What happened to Grandpa?" she automatically asked, but then seemed to lose her nerve. "U-um... nevermind..."
"As swimmingly as two partial psychotics can," Itzal replied simply. At the second question, D'von's expression changed completely; instead of the calm and slightly irritated expression, it was now bright and warm. "She's not happy about not being able to move around, but other than that, she's fine." Glancing over his shoulder, he added. "I should get back to her--before her craving changes." Without another word, he scooped up the apples and walked away.
Haides smiled, then blinked and glanced over at his suddenly silent twin. "... What's wrong?" Itzal lowered his head to the ground, eyes sliding closed. "I never thought I'd see that type of expression on him. I don't think I've ever seen him smile genuinely before, for that matter."

Serenity had tears in her eyes when her daughter asked, knowing she needed to tell her.
"When I was little myself, the chosen of my parents went missing. My parents had to go after them, so they went in search for them and didn't come back,"Serenity answered.
"He really cares for my sister, I did not think he would ever do that. It was surprising to me too, but the two of them seem happy together,"Jaromila spoke.

Beta shifted uncomfortably and averted her gaze. She shouldn't have asked... Especially now that her thoughts were shifting towards her own biological parents. And Delta was squirming next to her...
Itzal shrugged. "I guess the law of averages means that someone would have to love the unloved stallion." His gaze followed D'von until the stallion disappeared from sight. "Happy, huh...?"

"Dea took over my care sometime later, we can only assume that the Six got to them and well...I am sure you can imagine the rest. I wish I had gotten to know my parents and their bonded better. Not even sure I remember their names, to tell you the truth. I was still a blanket at the time,"Serenity explained. She looked over to her daughter, seeing the conversation upset her.
"Yes, very happy, from what I could see. I suppose everyone has someone out there that is perfect for them,"Jaromila mused.

Beta was quiet for a while. "Do you think... something like that happened to my father?" she asked quietly. Was that why he wasn't there? She'd never met her biological father, so she always wondered...
"If you say so." Itzal didn't think there was anyone for him. If there was one... with his luck, she'd be trying to kill him--and succeed.
