There is a wonderful manga that involves Gothic Lolita-style dolls.

It's called Dolls, by Yumiko Kawahara.

The manga features these special "plant dolls" sold by a gentleman who owns a fancy store in Tokyo specializing in these dolls and supplies for them. These dolls are incredibly expensive (we never actually learn the price, but it's always funny when the buyers do xd ). This is because these dolls are just about alive. They move, laugh, cry, and sometimes even talk. These dolls choose their owners, and are just about unsellable if the person the doll chooses decides not to buy.

It's a beautifully drawn and written, slightly dark manga that often questions the meaning of what it is to live. The Victorian dresses worn by almost every doll are a plus too. 3nodding

^My two cents. :

Clockwork Orange
Heh, my husband gonked at me when I recently bought my $80 Pullip, Rovam.

I prefer to pour my disposable cash into Pinky:st. figures.

To all you kids whose mom would buy them Dollfies, please make sure I'm added to Santa's list, too. razz

I love Pinky St. dolls, too! 4laugh I only have two of them and don't know much about them, but they're sitting here at school with me and I play with 'em all the time. whee

oh thankyou very much!
i don't like the Dollfie Dreams...i dunno theres just something about the Super Dollfie that just looks so proffesional and realistic...
i really want to get one specifically for my photography course, as it will be different and orignal from other peoples photography (:

Maybe you could invest in a Mini Super Dollfie or a Super Dollfie Cute? They're usually about half the price of a 60cm doll and are 43cm tall. The Mini Super Dollfies have more childlike features and builds (making them like a smaller version of a Super Dollfie), whereas the Super Dollfie Cutes have more mature features and builds (making them more a miniature version of a Super Dollfie 13). I love both of them, though I prefer the SDCs myself. Unfortunately, the only SDCs released so far have been limited editions (so they're more expensive), but Volks has promised to release a standard version soon, to the best of my knowledge.

That's the same reason why I want some. I can't find anything good to take pictures of anymore around here and I love those awesome clear closeups of dollfies that I could take if I only had at least one and then be able to make clothes for them and position them in a realistic way. ;-; Ah, maybe for Christmas... And I agree about on the Dollfie Dreams, those are blah. x:

Agreed; they do take gorgeous pictures. I wish I had a camera so I could take more pictures of mine, but she's more a companion for me than a photo subject. I would love to take a photography class so I could learn how to capture her beauty with a camera, though... whee You can buy all sorts of props (furniture included!) for them that look very realistic, too.

I love the BJDs, but I don't think I could ever spend that much on a doll. sweatdrop I do love looking at their pictures though. XD So pretty.

I also like the really tiny dolls, like Blue Fairy pocket fairies. They're so cute.. But they're $270, for a doll that could sit in your hand! gonk It's crazy.

No problem! I love them too. 3nodding I hope you get one! Both the girls are so sweet looking, and the boy is very similar in mold to his SD13 brothers. whee

Oh, I love Blue Fairy! They make adorable minis, too (43 cm). I think they have the cutest tinies of all the companies that make them. I'm glad their English site is up again!! 4laugh

I have an SD10 Nana that I named Sana. She doesn't have anything actually lolita yet, but here are some pics of here in some things I've made:

In this pic, the light blue dress came off another porcelain doll (dollfies are actually a type of resin), it's the cape that I knitted for her:

In this pic, I knitted the ear-warmer, and my sister crocheted the booties:

I also like the modern look on her:

modeling her pajama pants:

She was around $600.00 ^_^ I was lucky that the one I wanted was one of the cheaper ones. Now I'm obsessed with the Dream of Dolls, and I'm wanting to raise up money to get one of the SD sized ones to be friends with Sana. Whee! whee

These dolls are really, really hard to make, and take a really long time to sculpt, make a mold, cast, string, and customize. They're made of high-quality resin, which I hear is very costly, and while people have made them out of sculpey, they've been rather misformed and very fragile. whee

They can be made using a base made from sawdust and a type of paste. Much sturdier than sculpey, and with a lil work, a touch of trial and error, they turn out quite nice. Check out the Noah's Doll site (tells how to make):
