My Gracious Aisling,
xoxoxoI have traveled a far distance to come to this temple. I do not feel that I have been brought here by my own will, but rather lured by some sort of destiny. Early this morning I was awoken by the jarring melody of a distant orchestra. I was overcome by the compelling force of the music, and began walking towards what I believed to be the source of the tune. The farther I walked, the louder the orchestra became, pulling me toward my unknown destination. As I walked, the world around me became dim, and the path of music seemed to be brightened with every passing note. Again, the orchestra played louder and I began to run towards it, feeling some sense of urgency. Soon all I could see was the path of bright musical light, with a temple at the end of it, and I sprinted towards it with all of my energy. xoxoxoOnce I reached the bottom of the steps of the temple, the world around me reappeared and the bright light became focused on the entrance to the temple at the top of the steps. As I began my flight upwards, again being compelled by the light, the orchestra played louder yet again. When I approached the top of the stairs, the music suddenly subsided. I walked to the great entrance, and through the light, which seemed like a curtain over the doorway. My gaze became fixated on the egg in your arms, and I was overwhelmed with the feeling that the music had originated from that very egg, although that was impossible. Now here we are and I still cannot explain to you exactly why I have come here, but I feel as though I was called here by that egg.

Generous Aisling,
My journey here began in a dream. There was a colorful dragon watching over a nest of newly laid eggs. As I woke, I did not know what prompted me, but I went outside before my morning chores. I saw a bird in the tree that is planted beside my house, and it seemed to be trying to tell me to follow my heart today, rather than my duties. I breathed deeply the smells of the early morn, and I did not know what prompted me to leave. A feeling of knowing what my heart wanted, save what I knew I should do. Though it was difficult to tell just where I was going, I went the way my heart told me too. It was strange… If I went one way physically, I would lose the feeling … a feeling that is hard to describe… a sort of “rightness”, I suppose you could call it. It was when I turned the other way, a road that I less traveled, that the feeling came on stronger than before.
When I reached your temple steps, I found the feeling so great inside me, I had to stop and see if it was real. I heard a bird singing, a song I thought so pure, I knew I was at the right place and it beckoned me on up your staircase. Though I have traveled pass your temple many times, this time there was a subtle difference with the place. Again, I cannot name the feeling, but I knew it was right, that it was a safe place with nothing to fear. It is then I met you, Great Guardian, and that egg you now hold. I see it, and know to be familiar with it… as if I had seen it in my dreams last night. My heart recognizes it as a dragon that it knows it will love and cherish, as well as guide as best as it can.

»»» Salvation . . .
The guardian, or possible guardian stood just staring at the Dragon Goddess. His mouth was slightly agape, and his body sagged with weariness. How long had he traveled searching for this source of salvation his soul conjured up? How many roads had he ran down, walked across, or simply bypassed to reach here quicker? Too many and not enough.
Her question had made him pause. Her patience he could feel surrounding him in warmth and understanding. It was a difficult question, yet simple in design. Eventually he did answer, and his voice rasped and crackled from lack of water from his soul seeking journey.
"I have come, " he began carefully as his eyes drifted to the beloved egg in the Goddess' arms, "seeking that which is promising my soul redemption--salvation from myself. A promise of a new start, and a dream of sweet grass and sunbeams in prismatic harmony. " He crossed an arm over his chest, bowing at the waist in a reverent salute.
A dragon was not something he ever thought he would seek.
"Though my past may be riddled with lies, blood, and pain, I have sought to live honorably as I could. I have ran--as shaming as it sounds--from my past of lies and deception to seek something far more satisfying. Something peaceful. Something that promises to teach and learn, to question and to answer, and to comfort and to scold. " His gaze rose to fall upon the Great Guardian once more. And once more did he incline his head in reverence, "I come seeking salvation, redemption, but most of all peace, and-- by your will--I hope it granted. "

Aisling looked over each of the prospective guardians closely. She listened as each explained their reason for coming to her shrine. As each told his tale, she listened to the stirring of the dragon inside the egg. When the last prospect was done she announced,
"You have all traveled far, and I commend you all for your determination in journeying so long. However, there is only this one egg in my care at the moment, and as The Guardian, it falls to me to tell two of you that your journey comes to an end today. For the third, your journey is only just beginning, for you become this day, a dragon guardian. Life as you know it will change for the better."
She stepped forward and approached the last of the three to arrive. She held out the egg to him, and waited for him to take it from her.
"Keep it safe and warm. It will hatch very soon, and then you will know a joy unlike any you have ever experienced." Congratulations!
