Do you know that the Bible is opposed to swearing (foul language)? Well it (the Bible) is against swearing, here's a piece of scripture from God's Word: Passage Colossians 3:8:
8But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.

New International Version (NIV)

I want it all to syop.

Okay, confession time. So I never really thought I sweared a lot but uhhh. Okay. I'm a big time theatre kid, and I LOVE Broadway musicals. I sing along with them... especially in the car... (hahahaha). And some of them are just fine and dandy great for all ages like Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Wicked. But uhhh some... not so much. Like RENT and Avenue Q. There a few songs that are kinda obscene and generally when I sing along I let the words slip because I'm just running lyrics in my head. So I mean, these aren't my words but I still feel bad saying them....

So like... what about that? Out of curiosity.

I do that too (I love La Vie Bohemme xd ) but I think swearing is swearing, just as sin is sin. God doesn't go, "Oh, you're just singing along, it's okay then." That's like saying it's okay to do something because someone else is doing it.

@blood_on_the_moon: Huh?

Well, aside from the fact that profanity isn't sinning, you know, repeating it is just fine and dandy.

As to those who would like to question my judgement on this please either read a few pages back where I have stated my position and why I hold it quite clearly, or go here (note, considering that the entire clip is about profanity [and the title of their name itself is b*llsh*t], you can pretty much expect that there is going to be a fair amount of swearing. Please do not let this deter you, as the point made itself is quite good).

Profanity is slander right? Guess wat. ............... The Bible condemns slander, therefore it condemns profanity, therefore profanity is a sin.

No. Profanity is the usage of certain words society (note: Society, as in the secular majority, not the Bible or any other biblical source) has deemed to be 'offensive' or 'uncouth'. Slander is lying about or insulting someone.

See the difference?

Doesn't the Bible say that u shouldn't repay evil w/ evil? (a.k.a:insulting)

Exactly.

Slander is bad.

Profanity is not slander.

Saying "Oh -bleep- I burnt my toast!" is not repaying evil with evil, or insulting anyone.

I know... it's amazing. If I weren't too nice a person I would so adopt an attitude of Schadenfreude XD Ahahaha. Avenue Q = awesomeness

In any case, regardless of whether swearing is a sin or not, I don't support it. Even if the Bible doesn't condem it, our society does and this seem like one case in which we should listen to society. I've said before that... I dunno. You just loose so much credibility when you swear. You sound less intelligent and I'm far less likely to listen to you.

So I guess, when I'm singing along to a soundtrack, swearing won't bother me as much (provided it's not like some of those dirty rap sings which are entierly about sex and involve swearing every other word...) because they're not my words. You know? So I'm a little more comfortable with it.

But outside of that, I don't swear much. I was at lunch the other day and said a very minor curse word and my friend looked and me and was like "Holy cow, I don't think I've ever heard you actually swear!" It was kinda funny rofl

Okay, I'm a total hypocrite but I tolerate that song because it falls into the plotline of the musical XD It's essential to further the story. That's sucha terrible, biased attituide to have because I just don't like rap and I'm a theatre kid XD Plus some of those rap sings are just like "Hey babe, I wanna have sex with you. Check out my bling. *bleeeeeeeeeep*" As I saidm terrible argument but... I'll willingly admit I'm a bit biased XP

But that aside, that def. isn't my fave song in the musical so I sometimes skip it anyway. I'm much mroe partial to Schadenfreude, If You Were Gay, It Sucks to be Me, and The Internet is for Porn XP

...I'm sure all the people who don't know Avenue Q are like WTF? Ahahaha.
