"Leave me alone."
The words hurt, being in Her voice. Lumine backed away, hiding her distress under the brim of her hat. With some effort, she also managed to sheath the Nodachi once again. "Ochiba...you said that you...h-had a place to show me...right? ...C'mon, let's go."
She began to move in the direction the two were already heading, her head hung low. This was the last thing she needed on her mind; to know that there was a Shinigami look-alike roaming Gensokyo.
"H..Hey! Shini!" Lumine turned back to the Shinigami momentarily. "You better not follow us, you hear?! B-Because I'll be alone then!" She couldn't have painted a more obvious picture.

"Uh..?" She was both confused at the sudden reaction from the celestial. She looked distressed. The shinigami rolled over onto hands and knees, watching the celestial's back."
"Sure, Lumine, come along,"Ochiba waved a hand signalling for her to start to follow,while she put her glasses on once more," And stay away, shingami. I won't be so nice next time!" The rabbit promptly lead the rest of the way out of the forest and to the Human Village's outskirts. The entire journey took about, maybe an hour, give the old rabbit had to stop to catch her breath now and again. Who knew what she had in that bags of hers.
The shinigami stood on her knees and hands for a while.Lumine that was the Celestial's name. Why she cared so much about her distress she did not know.
"You better not follow us, you hear?! B-Because I'll be alone then!"
She was asking of her to follow? The thought hit her suddenly, and she clawed to her feet, running to take the scythe and begin to stalk after this odd celestial that seemed so familiar.
~~~
There stood an old hut, next to the door frame, a small burnt marked... Ochiba had never quite figured out what it was or how it was made, and honestly, something told her she didn't want to know. The door was wooden, and the entire building looked a bit weak, but at the same time capable of weathering whatever came it's way.
The rabbit went over and pushed the door open, as it had no owner, the door was always open. "I would come this way if there is ever a strong storm. Buuut I think you will find a better use for this than me~" Inside it was a single roomed house. A simple cot, apparently kept cleaned, most likely by Ochiba, who had already mentioned being the only visitor.
On farthest wall there was a chimmey, next to it the bed. A small desk parallel to the bed with a candle and that was just about it. Other than that, the room was plain, though, next to the door on a small hook was a cloak, heavy, yet of an elegant raven black, the brim of it was decaled with intricate curves of silver. Though celestial in apperance, the cloak had belonged to the polar opposite. On the side walls there was a pair of windows parallel to each other. "It's not much, but you can always make it more like home with some time," Ochiba said, with a sheepish smile.
Already outside, the shinigami was watching through on of the windows, far away and crounched behind a bush, waiting for that old rabbit to leave.
A bit of time passed, though Lumine barely noticed it, or even Ochiba for that matter. She knew she was following the rabbit, but she had forgotten why. It was impossible to get that Shinigami's face-- No, Maemi's face out of her mind. To see it again brought both warmth and a knife to Lumine's heart. Before she knew it, the two were upon the house, a small structure forgotten by time.
Lumine let out a whistle of awe as she entered the home. It looked like it hadn't been used in years, but there were still small signs of Ochiba's upkeep. "What is this place?" She asked, bringing Seijin's messenger bag up over her head and holding it in both hands. "I mean, who lived here before?" She took a few more steps inside, taking in what the small home had to offer. It wasn't much, as Ochiba had pointed out, but... it meant that the Celestial would have a home again. That thought put her soul at ease, and had taken her mind off the strange Shinigami. Well, a little bit.
"You can still use it, you know...I wouldn't mind a guest! And I probably won't be here all the time anyway. Adventures and stuff, you know." Lumine moved over to the desk and emptied the bag's contents out across its surface; the paper Michiko had given her, her inkwell and her quill. With everything that has happened in the past few days, Lumine had a lot on her mind... some things more than others.
Setting the bag down beside the desk, Lumine then moved to inspect the strange cloak that hung ever so curiously beside the door. "...Did this belong to the previous owner? It's amazing!" She grasped at the fabric, holding it outward to view the intricate silver inlay. She wondered if perhaps Ochiba knew the owner of the home? Perhaps not, but it was certainly strange to see the cloak still hung on the wall, untouched, as if waiting for its owner's hand.
"Haha, thank you,"Ochiba smiled a bit, and then her smile widened as Lumine seemed to find the home appropiate to her taste. "Glad it befits you."
"Ah, the previous owner ?" The rabbit looked towards the cloak,"They are long gone. This place has been here for quite some time, and all that realy remains are a few stories. Back when the owner was here, I think they said it was a witch that lived here or something like that. One day she just disappeared, maybe taken to the Sanzu, who knows."
The youkai came up next to Lumine looking at the cloak,"Yep, it belongs to the home's owner. I never really touched it, it gave me a bad vibe I guess you can call it, much like the burnt mark outside the door." Ochiba smiled though,"But I am a supersticious being, so don't pay heed to that!"
"A witch, huh?" Lumine said, dropping the fabric. She wasn't necessarily scared of the cloak now, but, it was better safe than sorry, right? "Well, I'll leave it be. Who knows? Maybe the owner will come back someday. If the cloak is here, then they'll know that they weren't forgotten..." With that, Lumine took off her hat and rested it on the same hook the cloak was hung with. "Hey, I really appreciate what you did for me tonight." She said to Ochiba, turning to pat the rabbit's head. "Not only helping fend off that Shinigami, but also showing me this place. I promise I'll take good care of it!"
Lumine gazed sideways at the bed, and yawned widely. She hadn't gotten any sleep in the past few nights, and it was beginning to wear on even her unnaturally high stamina. "So...what are you gonna do now, Ochiba?" the sleepy Celestial asked, rubbing a stray tear from her eye. "If you're gonna leave, be sure to be careful on your way home. I don't want that goofy Shinigami to give you anymore trouble." She unlatched the straps to Maemi's Nodachi, carefully propping the long weapon against the wall, near the door. If she had time later, she would make a proper stand for it to display it while she rested...but for now, this would have to do.
Ochiba snickered lightly as Lumine shied a bit away from the cloak. "Perhaps she will return in a new body, this place has been empty since I found it, and that was quite sometime ago! Reincarnation may have reached its owner by now." The rabbit's ears lowered and popped up as Lumine patted her head like she was some sort of child looking for a reward. She liked being patted, so the action didn't bother her like any other insult to her childish appearance. "It was nothing, dear. I hope you like it."
As Lumine begun to make herself feel at home, Ochiba smiled,"Yeah, I am heading home now. I have a couple rabbits who love to munch of me." Â She turned to head out the door before stopping and reaching into her bag, she pulled out a loaf of bread, a small piece of cheese and a canteen, she hurried and set it on Lumine's desk,"Here, it's not much, but it will keep you till morning." The rabbit hopped over back to the door, waving to the celestial with a smile,"I am off now, I will visit you now and again, Lumine, rest well!"
With that the glassed youkai left.
~~~
The shinigami's eyes trailed after the rabbit as she left and ran back into the forest. She waited a bit, before standing and resting her scythe across her shoulder blade went to the door. She thought of bursting in but that'd be rude, so she knocked.Â
Whether Lumine open the door or not, it was probably not fast enough, as the Shinigami was raising her scythe to bring it down and cut the door into two.

Reincarnation.
There was that word again.
Lumine smiled as Ochiba laid out some food for her on the desk. That would certainly help her fatigue as well; she hadn't eaten anything in quite some time. "Thank you again, Ochiba!" She waved back to the rabbit as she left, and closed the door behind her.
As the silence began to thicken, Lumine quickly returned to the desk and the food that lay atop it. Without another thought, she grabbed the piece of bread and took a bite out of one end. It was a little tough, but still delicious. Next, she went to reach for the piece of cheese, when someone knocked on the door. "That was fast", she thought to herself. Did Ochiba forget something?
Lumine stood up from the desk's chair, leaving the cheese behind but taking along the piece of bread. Approaching the door, another thought crossed her mind: Had the Shinigami taken her up on her hint? She had to be safe, just in case. Before grasping the handle, Lumine reached over to Maemi's Nodachi, perched against the wall nearby. With her finger's around the Nodachi's sheath, Lumine then opened the door, the piece of bread clutched between her teeth...
"HmfNNG--?!!" Was all she managed with her mouth full. She grasped the Nodachi with both hands, crossed in front of her and ready to receive and block the scythe's blow. Maybe trying to talk to the Shinigami was a bad idea after all?

The door opened suddenly, and the Celestial's sudden appearance at the frame startled the shinigami. Having already had the scythe over her head poised to bring down on the door, when she saw Lumine there was a huge "Abort Sequence" going through her mind. Suddenly unfocused on keeping the weight of the scythe up, the blade at the tip dragged her down. Shinigami and scythe hit the floor with a small,"Wah!"
 She begun to sit up rubbing the back of her head. "Sorry Didn't mean to scare you--" Wait, she was here for her soul, she did mean to scare her! She quickly jumped to her feet, taking the shaft of her weapon,"What am I talking about?! I am here for your soul! Be terrified!"
Just saying that made her feel stupid. Her pose relaxed as she was weighted with her lack of experience and bad word choice. She dropped the scythe back down with slumped shoulders,"You wanted to talk to me....?"

Lumine had shut her eyes, and the piece of bread fell uselessly to the ground, having been bitten off. She held the Nodachi rigid and awaited the impact...but nothing came; instead she heard the Shinigami cry out, and thump quietly against the ground. Her body relaxed a bit as she opened her eyes, coming to see the strange girl struggling to her feet. Even as the Shinigami threatened to claim her soul for the second time, Lumine simply lowered Maemi's sword, letting the bottom tip rest on the ground and swallowed the small bite of bread.
For the first time in perhaps forever, Lumine was at a loss for words. What could she say? So many thoughts and questions ran through her mind, she found it to be impossible to focus on just one. She wanted to cry. She wanted to scream. She wanted to leap at the girl and hold onto her, and never let go. A few silent moments passed, and Lumine finally spoke, in the smallest of voices,
"....Maemi?" It was almost a whisper. Her voice caught and a wetness gathered in her eyes. Her hands trembled. "Do you... Remember me?.... Maemi? Please..."

"Maemi? Whose that?" The shinigami looked confused at the celestial.Â
"I am not called Maemi or Shini, my name is Hanari, please call me by my name..." She said, "What is it with everyone naming me... I know I didn't have a name when I woke up, but one name is more than enough don't you think?" She let go of the scythe, having successfully  stabbed  it into the earth. "W-wah? Are you crying..?"
The shinigami looked around a bit unsure of how to deal with a crying celestial,"Please don't cry--!"

So, it was too good to be true, after all...
"I-I'm...not crying..!" Lumine quickly wiped her eyes on the back of her hand again. "I'm... not...!" She moved her hand to where her hat would be, forgetting that she had taken it off earlier. Instead, she merely bowed her head, tugging a bit at a lock of her hair.
Now what could she do? She felt utterly defeated now, and embarrassed for displaying such a show to the Shinigami. Lumine wanted nothing more than to crawl in a hole and disappear from the world, but now, she was stuck with this imposter.
"Hey, Hanari, was it?" Lumine looked up, trying to look angry to hide her sadness. "Y-You're completely useless, y'know? You can't even use that big weapon of yours with...without falling over! How do you expect to take down a cool Celestial like me, huh?" she tapped Maemi's sword against the floor, putting a hand on her hip and puffing up her chest. "You'll never take my soul in a hundred years! No, a thousand!"
She felt just as stupid, putting on this act when her true emotions were probably still so obvious.

Hanari looked helplessly at the celestial, unsure of what to do or say, she silently watched hesitating to react much. "Yeah, Name's Hanari."
And then she was insulted. Wonderful, just to make the day better. "HEY, I am new at this! I have a perfect excuse to not know how to use my scythe! " The challenge sparked a light in her eyes, perhaps all the more familiar to Lumine," Well great, cuse if there is something I got, its time! I can chase you to the end of the world, celestial! Your soul will be mine!"
Angered, the Shinigami takes a grasp of the scythe and quickly swipes at the door frame, stabbing the scythe into it,"I only need to train! Then You will be easy to take down!" She withdraws the scythe and leans it on her shoulder,"So you better get used to seeing me, because I won't rest until you have been judged by Akira-sama!"

"F...FINE!" Lumine couldn't help but let a smile creep onto her face, even as Hanari wedged her scythe into the door's wooden frame. Something about seeing this girl flustered like this made her happy, even if it was at the cost of another threat upon her soul. "If you wanna waste your time, then see if I care! There's no way I'll let an uncool Shinigami like you defeat me!" She clenched her fists, all too happy to be in a shouting match with Hanari, their voices breaking the night's eternal silence. "Not in a hundred million thousand years! I'll just beat you again and again!! I don't care if you come find me every day! Because! I'll always be here! Waiting for you!!"
Somewhere in the fabric of time, an oath was once made.
She finally stopped, having ran out of breath. Lumine locked eyes with Hanari, panting. "You better..not forget...about me! Because I'm ...holding you to your word... Shini!" Despite her fatigue and stress, Lumine found her body to be relaxed now. Her breathing calmed, and her grip on Maemi's sword loosened. Even if it wasn't real, even if it was just a cruel trick... seeing this girl standing before her as a living, breathing individual, brought a bittersweet comfort to the Celestial's heart.
"So... you'll come back, right?"

"You are on, celestial! " The shinigami yelled back, red from both emberrasment and a tad from rage, though she was not well acquantiance with such emotions, it was somewhat excitiing to feel them,"You will be sooo emberassed when I stand by you and Akira-sama judges you! We will see who is useless then! AND MY NAME IS NOT SHINI!"
Hanari ran out breath, she herself had to stop for a breath. "I ... will.. DOn't count on a ... Shinigami forgetting!" She straigthened out at last.
"Of course I will come back." Hanari grinned,"I have to prove myself as good as the other Shinigami, if not better! If I bring in a celestial, they will respect me!"

Lumine smiled at the Shinigami. "Good."
She blushed suddenly, realizing how much she had let her guard down, and in more ways than one. "I mean! Don't get your hopes up, Shini, cause there's no way you'll ever win against me." She presented the large sword, holding it out for Hanari to see clearly. "You see this? I bear this sword in the name of my family. And they're gone now, so I carry the weight of their world on my shoulders! Compared to you, who lives so carefree? There's no contest!" Lumine set Maemi's Nodachi against the wall again, then moved to put a hand on the door. "So, seek me out whenever you wanna get your butt beat! But if you think I'm alone, then you're sorely mistaken. If you want my soul, you're gonna have to fight us all!!" She slammed the door shut.
Exhausted from the days prior and the exchange with Hanari, Lumine casually fell into the only bed the house provided, not bothering to get undressed or even slide under its covers. As she drifted off to sleep, she couldn't help but wonder what the future had in store for her...
...
It seemed Purpose once again found its way into the Celestial's life, now locked in a battle for power with Hanari, a strange Shinigami bent on taking her soul. She still wanted to believe that, somewhere deep inside the girl, laid the soul of her loved one. But...what if Maemi was wrong? What if she was wrong? Maybe their shared likeliness really was just a coincidence?
Right now, it didn't matter. The promise of battle gave her something to look forward to, a destination to reach. Her adventure would continue.
