Suddenly there was movement in front of her and Sasha scrambled to her feet, clutching Nona with white-knuckled hands. The arena was still swimming around her, writhing and clack-clack-clacking. A vicious bug stood before her, mandibles yawning wide, pebbled and flecked with spittle. She didn't wait for it to come closer, instead lashing out in desperation.

A solid hit, though oddly there was no give - no cracking carapice or spray of fluid. Nothing.

Sasha fell to her knees, eyes wide but unseeing - visions of insects swam before her, leggy and segmented - the papery rasp of glassy wingbeats loud in her ears.

It was obvious that she was still under the effect of the hallucinogen, the life huntress attacking only the swarms that had taken control of her mind.

Soren tried not to stiffen at the soldiers words. A human doing them proud was a laughable idea, or perhaps disgusting. Good prey perhaps. Or perhaps she merely meant the pride that one might have in a particularly useful minipet. He would assume that and nodded, curious to see the creature that had earned such praise. The priestess beside him was also grudgingly giving her praise, and his red eyes flicked down to the arena before a voice interrupted him.

The tone set him on edge as he turned to regard the famine horsewoman. Seated next to a student he noted: bringing a pet to watch the animals. It was a good reward for them, to show them how the horsemen could entertain, and he nodded to her at her apology. His eyes flicked over to the other priestess, whom he had indeed met before. Before he could greet her or acknowledge her in any way there was a hand on his shoulder, causing him to whip his head around, tension growing as he saw that it was not the darkened hand of the priestess beside him but one that he did not recognize. The stallion that greeted him seemed to be friendly enough, and he left the hand be for now. Invitations to move? He looked toward the other seats before yet another voice caught his attention.

Ah, the priestess from before that he had captured minipets for. "That's fortunate priestess." So she still cared for the sealed evils, which truly did have a soft pelt. Perhaps when she skinned them he would be able to re-line his arm guards. He did note that she seemed to be having a difficulty seeing as well, which would indeed be a reason to move. But the priestess at his side was directing their attention back to the match at hand. Hunter versus hunter. This might actually be a good sport if she fought as good as they said she did.

Instead of moving he slouched down in his seat, rather uncomfortable and guessing that he would be sore if he stayed in that position for any length of time. Not exactly the thoughts a man of his age should be having. "Does this help?" As he said it he caught sight of the female's movement.striking a fearsome blow to the male. So she had taken to earnest that she might in her freedom. He only hoped that Medea was referring to the sweet release of Death as freedom.

Shaheen's attention shifted down towards the small student that addressed her question, eyes boring through her as she took the time to measure her up. She didn't look like much. Small, thin, almost frail looking, really. But Shaheen knew that surprising things could come out of small packages, so instead of ignoring the girl completely, she offered her a cocky smirk. "She won't fall. Not yet." She shifted her attention back out towards the arena. "She is a warrior, and will continue to fight. Will find it in herself to continue on even when things seem completely hopeless."

At the introduction, she nodded, "I am Shaheen." Her gaze flickered towards Shik, who had also just spoken to her, taking in the feral grin, finding herself, as usual, wanting to do something to wipe the smile off of his face.

Causing Shik misery was like some kind of horrible addiction, apparently.

She chose not to grace his little jab at her late arrival with a response, instead choosing to split her attention between the student and hunter in the arena. She did find it a little odd that a student was introducing her to a horsewoman of famine, as though they knew each other on such a personal level that it was normal to do so. She greeted the woman with a nod as well, "Eiseth. It is nice to meet you." She didn't really sound like it was nice, however. Shaheen rarely sounded happy about anything.

A small commotion over seating when a tall horseman arrived, presumably from death, had Shaheen mentally eye rolling. Really, it was a little ridiculous, and she tried to tune out any petty squabbling that might arise, sitting up straighter in her own seat, not giving a damn if she blocked the view of those behind her.

And then the entertainment began to get more interesting, and it was much easier to ignore the other chatter as she focused on what was happening on the coliseum floor.

The ghoul had grown slightly bored once the monster was taken down. It was truly a shame to see it die. But it seemed like her boredom would be washed away as they soon brought in a male Hunter to fight the female. It was certainly an interesting turn of events.

Whoever won would win freedom? That was kind of a shame if Medea just let the winner waltz right out. Perhaps she meant a different form of freedom. Cupping her elbow in one hand, Mei rested her head in her hand. Tilting it just slightly as she watched curiously with eyes half lidded.

She glanced at Eisheth momentarily when she begun to yell at the larger Horseman who had decided to sit down in front of them. He wasn't all that much in her way, so could at least still see most of what was going on. Her hand idly fiddled with the fragment at her throat, running her fingers along it's smooth surface as it spoke to her.

The ghoul didn't turn her head though as the War Horsewoman spoke, merely listened. Everyone seemed to have high hopes for these Hunters. She would rather see them all burn. "So people keep saying. But she'll reach her limit eventually. Though perhaps this other Hunter will put her out of her misery before then." Shifting in her seat, she crossed her legs briefly before uncrossing them again.

Mei was getting restless.

"Its a pleasure to meet you, Shaheen. War clan yes?" She didn't know a whole lot about the clans but she knew how to recognize the individuals of the groups by their demeanor and dress. If her time on the Islands and with Eisheth showed her anything it was that this Horsemen was not of Conquest, Death or Famine. So the obvious choice was War.

SPECTATOR

Kiwi nodded politely to the Death clansman, leaning back on his perch to watch the current battle. The human ghoul was now facing down against another Hunter. He was curious how they would hold against one of their own, how long those precious shields would last. In fact, she seemed to stumble around the field, still caught in the acid's effects. He grimaced. This wouldn't do at all. She was essentially fighting blind, and could easily miss as greatly as land a blow. Time to even the playing field. He stood, calling out across the open arena: "OY! HANDICAP THE HUMAN BOIL! BLIND HIM FOR A BIT!!!"

Kiwi sat down, turning to Heidla and Eisheth with a grin while his gaze half-flitted about the seats in search of a nice projectile."Now's a good time for a bet, don't you think??"His eyes lit as he hefted a round pebble in his hands, sizing it carefully before chucking it hard towards the male Hunter. He could at least make do til a decision was made.

Now that was interesting: the female hunter moves, as she attacked her male colleague without any hesitation, were twisted and suddenly a bit clumsy. Was she still under hallucination effect? That can explain the lack of doubts: even a human would feel something attacking a comrade, concluded the alchemist. Let's test it out, she decided, and threw a small rock aiming at a newcomer.

Ravvlet
sorry for that cool

"Nice to meet you, Shaheen", Eisheth's was voice wasn't nice at all, as well, but horsemen should be quite used to a neutral/passive/aggressive voice which was just a common manner, not a sign of real aggression. After all, their clans hadn't communicated for ages before the destruction of the isles. The War clanswoman seemed to cast a strange glance at Shikoba, or was it just her imagination? "Are you Shik's friend... or relative?", she asked in terms of basic courtesy. Socialite dialogues weren't her best skill.

"Everyone has their limits." The chieftain agreed with the student, "I just do not believe she has reached her's quite yet." Indeed, as Shaheen watched, she could see a new sense of vigor in the hunter yet, as loathe as she was to witness it. She may have been messed around by her last opponent, but she was still standing, and she still looked strong.

"Yes, I am from war." She turned her attention back to the young girl, and in turn back to Eiseth as well, her gaze flickering to Shik again, and back to the woman of famine, her lips curling up into the cocky smirk that they were most accustomed to.

"Neither." She said, her eyes narrowing, her tone indicating that she did not wish to discuss it further then that. But then again....

"Actually, why don't you ask Shik what we are too each other. I'm sure he could explain it better then me. He's really quite eloquent, once you get to know him." She hoped she said that loud enough for him to hear, as she shot him one more smug glance and then turned her attention back to the hunters, watching the rocks that struck the male hunter, shaking her head to herself and tsking. She with held from joining in with the throwing. The hunters deserved much worse then a few pebbles glancing off of them.

Shik was, of course, ignoring what the conversation was nattering on about in lieu of the interesting battle unfolding before them. Hunter on Hunter action? Mmyessss. but he did perk at the sound of his name, breaking his concentration on the bloodshed.

"What do you want?" he snapped at no-one in particular, proving his so-called eloquence.

SPECTATOR

She raised a curious brow as she glanced at the male Horseman. Apparently he was much too interested in the fighting to give two licks about answering questions. Though she didn't blame him, it was hard to look away sometimes when there was any real action going on.

A little smile crept onto her lips as she felt the familiar touch of Eisheth's hand stroking her hair. Closing her eyes only momentarily before opening them again before she chimed in on her opinion. "It seems to me that perhaps you both have some pent up emotions that you are too....stubborn to admit?" She gave Shaheen a cheeky grin as she raised both eyebrows now in amusement. The air that the Horsemen put off made her think of an old married couple almost.

Most of the Horsemen seemed to be that way. Stubborn about almost everything and anything. Especially if it seemed to perchance allow others to see what they might consider weakness. Like a cat that puffs up when backed into a corner. But she supposed with their age and their powers it was only a natural thing.

Mei frowned as a few rocks were thrown, hitting the Hunters. If only the rocks were bigger and the Hunters couldn't doge them.

Wash had been barely awake when the horsemen came for him - unprotesting, as they dragged him from his cell. The journey was broken up into small bits of cognizance; flashes of blackness here and there pitting it. He blinked. Something was around his ankles, and he stood in a pit of sand. Faces jeered at him, but they blended together, far away and less important.

He blinked harder. Tears streamed down his face and cleared his vision. He felt strange, his mind sluggish. He remembered the dream- odd, wrong. That wasn't what had happened. That wasn't who he was. He remembered Amphi- her smiles, her laughter. He had helped Jerry fight off the demons in the school house. He had sang in front of everyone and very nearly embarrassed himself. He had been there, countless times, somewhere in the ranks, defending. Trying to help. It was who he was- wasn't it? Was it nature, or nurture?

Would Daniel suffer that fate? Would he become hardened, afraid, without someone to guide him?

A voice floated over the arena, and his thoughts once again slowed to a trickle. Two hunters? But... Wash glanced up, and gasped. No. No, that couldn't be right.

A delicate figure staggered toward him, covered in some sort of strange orange liquid; eyes wild, pupils dilated. Sasha. She looked crazed, like a wounded animal, but her body bore no visible damage. Was she alright? The next words uttered by the horsewoman froze his blood. Freedom. He looked into the glazed eyes of the other hunter again, uncertain. Could he hurt her? Did he value his life so much?

No, no. He turned toward the voice, shouting, "You can't expect us to do this. Just let her go. You're gonna have your way with me anywa-"

His plea turned into a grunt of surprise as something connected with his back. His coat made a vicious tearing sound, and he could feel blood from the cuts dribbling down his spine, his FEAR shield absorbing the brunt of the blow.

He twisted, painfully, to face this new threat. His eyes widened in surprise. "Sasha? Sasha, I-"

Wash flinched as a large rock glanced off his shoulder. Before he could react, another one hit him in the leg, and he staggered. Sasha was on her knees in the sand, having come within his reach to make her attack.

Wash, Wash! I'm here!

He ignored Sally, and instead stood slowly.

You can summon me. Please, let me help. He could feel her fear, echoing his own.

He shook his head in response. He couldn't do it. Couldn't break the girl before him, couldn't harm her. Memories came slowly - her singing as she fought, she and Jerry together, smiling. So unlike the young woman before him. Something was wrong with Sasha- she looked terrified. What had they done to her? He stepped forward, movement impared by the shackles at his ankles, almost reaching out for her- but he stopped.

No, Wash couldn't hold her hand this time, make it better. One of them had to get out of here. It was only practical, sensible. Someone had to go tell the others, to save the ones they'd left behind in the cells. And why not Sasha? She had loved ones, waiting for her at Deus. Wash cared for Jerry, loved him as a friend even, although they hardly knew each other. But the man knew that of the two of them, Jerry'd miss her the most. It was...better this way, right? Maybe she'd be lucky. Maybe they'd done something to her, so she wouldn't remember.

He hoped so.

Wash closed his eyes and bowed his head, but one voice wouldn't go away.

Wash. Let me help.

But - And then he understood. The rocks, the spectators - he didn't know how badly Sasha was hurt. What if she defeated him, only to succumb to her wounds? He summoned his weapon, and it came to his call, a gleaming shield settling on his arm. He let out a breath he didn't even know he'd been holding. It felt good, right to have her on his arm again.

It was easy, now that she was on her knees. He held Sally out over her like some sort of strange umbrella, blocking her from the view of the jeering crowds. He glared at them defiantly, and under his breath whispered to the girl at his feet.

"Go home, Sasha. Do this, and you can go home."

Sasha watched, wide-eyed and frantic, as a dark shape loomed closer. She was terrified, tears streaming unchecked from her eyes as she fell back, wildly lashing out with Nona. The close proximity of the wave of bugs made true contact impossible, but Sasha was desperate to get away, to make some space between herself and the creature that swam in her vision.

And then he spoke.

A familiar voice, baritone and rich, one that had offered her so much comfort in recent times.

"Wash?"

SPECTATOR

Well, Shik appeared to be in a splendid mood as usual, though if her smirk could have gotten any more smug at that point, it would have. It was much more enjoyable to harrass him when she knew she could get a proper rise out of him.

The little girls comment had her smile faltering at the edges, however, and she leveled a look down at her, one eyebrow rising. "I am sure I have no idea what you mean." Her voice held a dangerous edge to it, a warning to her to know her place. As accepting of the students as Shaheen tried to be, she would not sit back and let this one make assumptions of her.

No matter how true those assumptions might be. Damned clever girl with her cheeky observation.

She turned her attention back to the hunters in the arena, her upper lip curling back from her teeth as she watched the action unfold. It was not nearly as entertaining as she hoped.

Shaheen leaned down to pick up a rock. If things weren't going to get interesting, then she would make it so for herself.

She flung the rock, which was actually not that big, at the back of Shikoba's head.

She did not take a rock, she had no interest in hurting the combatants. Let them fight as was with some form of honor rather then mocking and jesting at their soon to be deaths. Around her the two other Death clan members spoke, others simply watched. Her interest wandered for a moment before a smile crossed her face.

She stood up looking to the head priestess.

"END THIS FIGHT! The one will not battle her, look how he comes to her aid in this ring? Save the wild girl for another. Let me fight the one who will not turn on his own kind!"

She turned back watching Wash, his strange dark skin interesting to her like the one who had died in the jungles.

The Hunters weren't at each other's throats, some thing was addressing him with familiarity she hadn't earned, and -

WHACK

- sonuvabitch. Shaheen.

Shik whirled to face her with bared teeth, his face scrunched in a snarl so reminiscent of his ursine form. "What the devil do you want, woman?" he growled before turning his glare towards the alchemist, bypassing Mei entirely. "And what is that thing doing here? Is it your pet?"

Unlike Shaheen, this horseman pretty much didn't care how first impressions went.
