Ami had somehow ended up here after running from the battle in the jungle. She heard the orders from Caelius, and somehow it provided clarity. It gave her something to do, not just a pointless flee from a battle.

People were crystallizing left and right. Her chest clenched up for a moment when she saw Wilson, but she fought it. If he was dead, he was dead. Another hunter to put in the graveyard. She had to convince herself of that. Numb herself- cauterize the emotional wound.

"Gale keep going!" she urged the boy as she fought up the stairs. Then even he was gone.

She made the mistake of looking over at the staff, and a figure appeared. It was shapeless at first, then arms, legs ...

Then Ami looked away. She wouldn't- couldn't succumb to that.

Ami paused on the stairs to catch her breath. It was only then that she could really see the true damage of the crystals. Gale was only a few yards behind her, Wilson and the others frozen at the bottom. It was horrible.

They were dead. It didn't matter.

At some point, without realizing it, Ami had sat down. Her eyes were drooping, and a yawn escaped her mouth.

Revenge? No. Wait. This wasn't right.

She stood up and smacked her cheek lightly. Stay awake!

Ami was about to doze off on the steps when she heard a cracking, splitting noise above her. For a moment or two, she really did think about just ignoring it and going to sleep, but then she shook to her senses.

The crystals were growing down from the ceiling, like hands reaching out to drag her into the abyss of crystallization. She didn't want to go. She really didn't. Despite all of her faults, Ami truly was the type to survive through whatever means it took. She was resilient. If it meant bowing to a horseman? So be it. She just didn't want to die.

Not when she'd come this far. Not with all the pain she'd suffered. Ami wanted one chance in the light. Really, it wasn't much to ask for. She just wanted to be happy. Wanted to feel things.

She rolled left as a crystal smashed into the ground where she had been sitting seconds ago. Ami stuttered to her feet and started back up the stairs. Her only thoughts now were escape.

Marcus tried to ignore the sick feeling rolling in his gut. Caelius's arrival had not been ill timed so much as just plain ill. The death lead was pissed, as usual, only this time he looked ready to kill anyone who spoke. Keeping his mouth shut, Marcus said nothing, even if he felt god awful. Just listen and obey order. Things were much simpler when you did that.

He listened, trying to pay attention, figure out just what was going on but like always, nothing. Nothing but hints and clues. What he didn't like was the whole crystallization thing. NOPE. Not cool. Sadly Caelius gave his orders. Soldier on, he had to follow. Hope that he'd live. Given who left them? he doubted it. Moving to do as he was told, he groaned, feeling pain dance up his leg. Warmth, only it didn't flow. Looking down he watched with a detached horror as his blood began to crystallize.

Well, Dis was making a small noise of panic. That told Marcus s**t got real. He didn't want to die here. Not yet.

Another step, the cut in his leg was worse, crystals going up, as if seeking to find his heart.

Looking up with the sound a crack, Marcus rolled to try and avoid the falling spears of death. Some still hit, and he winced. Dis was sending waves of panic, making Marcus only worry more.

Ami paused for a moment to maneuver around a particularly complicated crystal structure. She was about to slide left when a figure darted in between the crystals. Enemy?

She held out Junpei worriedly, revenge screaming in her head. "Stay back. ******** don't come any closer-"

In her stupor, a crystal broke off the structure and scratched along her face, leaving a shallow cut that bled a deep red. Her eyes went wide as she could feel the blood hardening on her face, turning a light lavender-blue. A hand went up to touch the cut and she could feel crystal.

"Wh-what's happening to me..." was all she could get out as she backed up along the stairs, tripping over one and falling down onto the stone. Junpei clattered onto the ground, leaving her utterly defenseless. Well if it was a monster, so be it.

The moon hunter groaned as he tried to rip the crystals from his leg. This was unnatural, even for Halloween. Whatever this was, it was eating them in ways that made his skin crawl. Like living crystal, it was going to consume them as it was with others. A familiar voice had him look over, swinging his blade to take out a falling crystal above her.

"No ******** idea." He said in answer to her question. "But if we don't do something, we'll end up dead soon enough."

Ami nodded slowly, but she could feel the crystal growing across her face. She let out a whimper as it covered one of her eyes, leaving her blind, while also tracing down to her ears. The loss of sight coupled with the damaged sense of balance knocked her into the wall, where a shard cut her leg.

More rapidly than the cut on her face, shards began to grow out of her legs, shackling her to the ground. She tugged and pulled, but it only gave her leg more cuts, more opening for the crystal to grow in.

Soon the shards had flowered to her other leg, and half of her face was covered in the lavender-blue crystal. Ami choked out a scream that was quickly cut off as the crystal invaded her throat. She couldn't even warn Marcus, give him a shout.

Though it's been reiterating a thousand times, Ami wasn't stupid. She could tell this was where it ended. As a crystal for smashing. A tear slipped down the only eye she had remaining as she tried to choke out words. She tried to say she was sorry, at least to Marcus. The guy had never done anything but tried to help, and she'd pushed it away. Just like everything else. She always shut herself off, severed ties if need be.

Before her brain crystallized too, she thought of Madeline, of all people. Her tiny little sun (well no, Ami was the short one, but that was beside the point). For whatever reason, Ami couldn't leave the girl alone. She worried over Madeline. Got annoyed by Madeline.

Feelings arose.

It was a feeling she'd number herself to- feeling things for others. It wasn't romantic, rosy feelings- those were long locked away in Ami's heart. Still, it had been nice to experience something before dying here in this cavern of crystal.

< Ami- > Junpei said desperately. The words seemed to cut off. Junpei was at a loss.

I'm sorry I was a failure.

All that was left was a statue of Ami, stuck in a lurching position, Junpei fiercely gripped in her left hand. One more statue to add to the garden.

He looked away for just a moment, only to turn and see Ami had been crystallized like the rest. Cursing he tried to fend off the growing shards.

They wouldn't stop, and Dis's panic was bleeding over into Marcus. This was not good. Hunters were falling. There was no really was out, the exit too far. Each new cut only served to help the crystal grow into him.

He tried to move but felt his foot held fast. A look was all it took. He was stuck, the scimitar's panic was fading. Dis wasn't fighting. Dis could leave him. Dis might live. But for Marcus? Marcus pulled at his leg, screaming in anger. He refused to die. Slowly, he felt the crystals crawling up, ones on his hands moving to his face. He stopped attacking, just long enough to scream in hate. He didn't want to die. Not like this.

Never like this.

"Don't worry, I'll be joining you shortly," Ariane continued to hold her ground as best she could, trying to ignore the bodies of her friends and comrades, trapped in crystal, littered around her - there was Wilson, who went first. Deryk, Jude, Gale were people she felt closer to. Madison, Marcus, other girl? Not so much... But they fought in a war together, so that meant something right? She knew that something like this would happen one day... Well, not this, but it was no secret that a hunter did not have what most would call a long lifespan... Still, it had been a decent run, right?

As she smashed another fragment, the pieces cut her skin, and where blood normally would be, there were crystals growing instead... But no matter.
