"You didn't answer my question." Illo was beginning to walk toward the two of them now. "I asked you why you and Shiroyasha always try to get under my skin. Do you want to see me, a man trained to hold his composure, get angry, is that it? What if I did, huh!"

"A step down your path is a step off mine; and let's not forget where mine leads." At this point the monk pointed up to signify transcendence. "There's a reason I didn't pass your test. Your chaos, it feels wrong. I couldn't allow myself to be taken by it; my destination is a reality infinitely greater than the highest you can conceive." He paused, looking them square in the eyes.

"You're afraid, aren't you. You're afraid I can actually do it; and terrified of a being that could actually reach Perfection. That's why you discourage it at every turn."

“We will protect our Mother”

Yakumo and Shiranui stare blankly at the monk. He was crossing a line he wouldn't be able to step back from. Even Shiranui's kindness and good nature had its limits, and Yakumo could see her reaching the braking point. However
,the both spoke calmly.

Transcendent being... Was it? In this secular existence, perfection is an illusion, regardless of those who utter the contrary. This is the reality. Men like you seek it out, they strive to achieve it, as if it were some tangible thing... But... The fact of the matter is, perfection is a hollow shell. It is devoid of any substance. I spit on perfection. Perfection, after all, implies you've reached the summit. No trial and error, no ability to conceptualize. An omniscient being would have no need for such superfluous things... Am I making myself clear? Many magnificent things have been, and will continue to come into existence... And yet every last one of them will fall short of perfection's grasp.

It is impossible to not hurt someone. Humans unconsciously hurt others by simply existing. Whether you are alive or dead, you keep hurting people. Getting involved will hurt them, but trying not to get involved might hurt them too. But if it's someone you don't care about, you won't notice you've hurt them. What's important is your awareness of it. It's because you care about them, that you feel like you've hurt them. Caring about someone means being resolved to the fact that you'll hurt them. The more people care for each other, the farther out of reach certain things get. But that's not something to be sad about, we think it's probably something to be proud of. Whatever you lose, you'll find it again, but what you throw away you'll never get it back. The important things in life, like feelings, hearts, and souls, are all things you toss out like garbage. The more you try to reassure yourself that they are unnecessary, the more of your humanity you lose to the Marbas.

It's because you're so high and mighty that you're so easy to fool. Chaos held no sway in you decision and you know it. Why not just admit we stumped you? Why blame Chaos for your shortcomings? Afraid of you! That is the very definition of a bad joke. After what I just witnessed I have nothing but pity for you. The fact that a person like you thinks he is above anyone is sickening.

"And what are you doing!" Snapped Illo. "You people are obsessed with power. What point is there in making yourself stronger if there's no absolute? Someone will come and kill you just the same. You and your family cling to something that is ephemeral, but what I will attain is permenant." At this point the monk turned and started to walk up the mountain they were on.

Yakumo and Shiranui follow him. Shifting a few feet away to keep pace.

Helping others, protecting those that seek to hurt your loved ones,to make a better world for those who will come after. So many wonderful things that you seemed to think are meaningless. Even if you attain it what then? Do you think you won't die? If you do what will those that knew you remember you for? A man who cause anyone who ever care about him pain? Who cast them aside like garbage to pursue his own ideals. Is that who you want to be Mr. Illo?

We have vastly different definitions of power Iron Phoniex. Try as you might we both know you cannot understand us with the knowledge you have now. Your making assumptions based on what you perceive us to be. You simply failed our test, but look what it has become.

I admit that I said some harsh things to you. When I saw you fight Haku, and your other interactions with mother I though the test would be easy for you. Chaos is unnatural .....and by your teachings wrong, but I didn't exspect it to effect you the way it did. However, if you really want to understand us then you must throw away any preconceived notions you have about us.

With something of a huff Illo turned away from the duo as they vanished into the heat waves bouncing off the mountain. From here it was all solo, it seemed, and so the monk left, one foot in front of the last, up the face of the mountain he was on. He wanted to crush them, but knew he wasn't strong enough yet to take on all of them--a scenario he reasoned was quite feasible. For this he would need a greater power: the Truth his teachers had held as absolute.

With nothing to keep him from training, no partner, no inhibitions, Illo was free to train as hard as he wanted with no regard for his own health. For the next seven days he trained in the most brutal fashion he could, taking only the most necessary breaks for water or a short nap when he felt he was on the verge of succumbing to exhaustion. He'd taken the same approach as he had in Bardo, training at maximum power at all times. This coupled with the fact that he was at the summit for the entire training put his body through Hell and left him skinny and weak when it was all over.

Many of the mountains around had lost their tops, and down below the townsfolk had posted up new signs each day warning of the new spots prone to landslides that seemed to be popping up daily. One the eighth day the rocks seemed to be more stable, and as a strange monk walked into an inn with ragged clothes somehow people know to give him his room--not an actual room, just a wide berth.

As luck would have it--if you don't believe--Illo was given a hot meal and was allowed to stay there for the night. He thanked them and resolved to pray for them always and meditate on their kindness. The people were simply glad to see he was alright.

That, however, may have been an understatement in the scope of a few days' time. Illo had recovered remarkably well, his muscles responding to the desperate conditions by becoming so much stronger that it appeared as though he'd spent a lifetime training for this moment. That too wasn't so far off, himself spending the first fifteen years he could remember in the monastery with the monks grinding away at the rough edges of his flaws until he was a smooth, polished fighter. At this time he remembered how it felt to finally use his power; for it was such a drastic transformation that some of the monks thought he'd ascended right then (before then he could hardly fight on their level at all).

Determined to repay their kindness, the monk had worked out a deal with the inn to let him stay if he agreed to help clear the rocks from the roads. They didn't know at first that it was he who caused the rockslides, but soon it became apparent that that was the case as Illo used his abilities to blast the roads clean. Some of the townsfolk were mad, calling for his removal, but some saw him as a cutely stupid monkey--taking into account the profound lack of lives lost.

By the tenth day Illo'd cleared all the roads that were affected by his overzealous training and made a complete recovery thanks to the hearty, protein rich soups he was served. Now he was free to meditate. Taking a few hours of yoga, the monk invoked his chakra points and allowed himself to be carried off to a place without time. He'd forgone the jnana yoga he'd favored till this point to reteach himself the value of karma yoga, and to sure up his technique so that he would be as precise as ever; fluid as well and limber to boot. It was here that Illo had a vision. He was connected with a different reality, and he could see himself as a fully enlightened being, but felt a distance he could not explain. Illo knew that only the monks could answer his questions, so he left with a quiet bow and vanished instantly into memory.
