Sherry, who was now floating almost upside down, noted that it took longer to recover from the shock this time, as well. Upon further evaluation, perhaps one shard will be enough. She eyed the glittering fragments. They seemed to be everywhere; some even seemed to flit in and out of existence. She had a feeling she could try for any number of them, only to find more pain as a reward. Even the one she held had been protected. I don’t know. With this body, we can’t be sure. She was breathing underwater, after all. Sherry didn’t think that was a natural skill of dustbunnies, but she didn’t know for sure. Maybe she could find out when she got back to the island. She would be getting back. Of that she was certain. War to fight an all that. But for the moment, she held her one shard close, floated in the strange, watery world, and waited for the feeling to return to her feet. There, another fragment. But as he neared the plants began to spew something...but it was okay. It helped to clear his head if nothing else. He had a task, a quest. Something he had always been doing. That he needed to complete. But Astridr had not understood. Had ignored him, confused his path. It angered him that she could care so little about something so important to him. With a snarl on his face he began to move away from the others. They would not trust him either. They could not understand his duty. The fragments understood. They spoke to him, called to him. He knew they would not betray him. If only he could find them... It was a horrible bitter feeling that nearly drove herhim to smash into someone else. If it wasn't for the fact that she was still limping and being generally blech she might have tried.

The end result had him scampering towards one, not even worrying about where he was or anything else. The kushi-kushi got a nice jump and landed on one, wondering just what the sound was as he touched it. It sounded like a scream rattling in his brain and he wondered if Rue had woken up or something. Screams were nothing new and so he ignored it, even if it wasn't in him and instead was the fragment itself.

Water. Why did it have to be water?
Eris' body was stiff, every muscle coiled tightly as she half hovered in the water, looking for the world as if she was immersed in something slimy, as opposed to the cool, clear water around them. Although the fire of her mane and tail still burned, against all logic and reason, the crimson locks giving off a subtle glow, the look of distaste did not fade with the realization that she had been granted this comfort. For the most part, the Protector didn't really MIND water -- it tended to pose problems when she decided she needed to reduce something or someone to nothing but a pile of hot cinder, but it was an enigma to her. In general, she had a mild fascination with the other element, and found she quite enjoyed sitting by the edge of a pool of water and dip her fingers in, just to let the coolness run over her fingertips. But this? This was too much. This was wet all over, this was cold everywhere, total saturation, complete immersion.
Overall, she looked quite unhappy with the situation.
Looking around a little gloomily for Senga and Shaheen, the horsewoman's attention momentarily strayed as she noticed a little glowing crystal thing a short ways away, shimmering prettily in the water. After a thoughtful moment of consideration, Eris slowly allowed her muscles to unwind, relaxing marginally enough to take a slow step towards the little shard, her eyes suspicious. It LOOKED harmless enough... but if there was one thing she was finding about this place, it was that in general, looks could be deceiving. Like those rooms. Although she had found that key... so perhaps this would be safe also. Using that logic, she leaned forward, touching her nose against the opalescent shard...
Which, in retrospect, was a big mistake. Going rigid, this time from a powerful jolt of electricity, Eris let out an equine scream of surprise and pain, jerking back as the shard disappeared.Quote: Faction: War Horseman Element: Fire HP: 15/30 Inventory: Gold Key

The first thought in her head was: 'that hurt.' Which was rather puzzling to the Protector -- very few things really HURT, when it came right down to it. She was used to dealing with pain, burns and cuts frequent when battling with hunters, so frequent that she thought almost nothing of them and pushed them to the back of her mind. A sting, nothing else, nothing to even waste a thought on. But this... this hurt. It made her muscles clench and unclench unbidden, something scratchy seeming to almost crawl beneath her skin. There was a tinge of fire in the bite, but it was more than fire. It was... purer than fire. Energy. Which lead her to her second thought: 'I want it.'
Her body slowly became hers again, allowing Eris to move again as she wanted, the twitching and burning of her spasming muscles starting to ebb. And that's when she noticed the crystal had reappeared. Just to her right, in fact. It hovered there, a few feet away, as if nothing had happened, and it was minding its own business, enjoying the day.
Oh that insolent...!
Snapping her head towards it, the Protector grabbed for it, touching it once again with her nose. This time, it did not disappear, nor did it shock her -- as with the key, a rope suddenly formed around it, and it floated gracefully to join the key at her flank, adding to her inventory. Unfortunately, it also began to shriek, the shrill sound of something unhappy to be in her possession. Grinding her teeth, the horsewoman squeezed her eyes shut, feeling her tension mounting again.

Decidedly bored of floating around watching all manner of other minipets try swimming, shard-grabbing, and what he imagined was strange hunter antics, Senga finally decided that he'd act. Or... try. The wolf rumbled, bubbles popping up in the water around the genderswapped min's mouth. Used to swimming now, he snaked his way over to the nearest glowing fragment, staring at it for a long moment before deciding that barring the ******** rabbit from before, this couldn't do anything worse than what the entire holly-jolly place from before had done.
He was so, so wrong.
The last thing he heard before dissipating was a voice coming from his mouth, an inhuman shriek in a shrill tone that certainly, most definitely wasn't his own. Menu > Stats Senga : War ClanFaction: Horsemen.

There, another fragment, though it was almost like it was...merged..with an oddly shaped and distorted looking minipet. Never mind, it was her's, it was part of her quest, and she needed it for what it could tell her! The vaisel made her way towards it, reaching out with two paws to yank on the shard and pull it free. The minipets eyes suddenly opened, but instead of being alarmed she glared back at it, baring her own teeth even as it attempted to grab at her, and gnashed at her with it's teeth. No! This one was hers! She pulled on it with all of her strength, tearing away from the little beast before it could do her any harm, and gave it a hissing spit as she did so. The shriek that it emitted left an uneasy feeling in her gut, but it was one that she ignored for now. Back to eyeing everybody with hatred and suspicion while keeping to herself. When Senga reappeared, he knew he shouldn't go for another shard.
So, of course, it was within his terrible methods to do the exact opposite.
The closest one was surrounded by strange, flower structures, and Senga paused to both admire and scrutinize them, shaking himself out again as his bones began to protest the weight of being waterlogged. His paw reached out for the fragment slowly, but then -
What was that smell?
The horseman reeled back, staring at the coral as it emitted a strange haze, a gas that he could only believe wouldn't do anything good. But there wasn't any time; he was already inhaling it, already tasting it in the back of his throat and - Senga's stomach dropped, and his ears flattened as suddenly everything made sense, and at the same time, everything hurt. He felt betrayal sink like a rock into his memories, coating them in skepticism and distrust and hate. How could he trust any of them? The task - his task was important. If he trusted any of them, they would just betray him again and his task would be lost. Senga slunk back in the water, eyes wide. The fragments called to him sweetly; the only ones he could trust.

Fragments had the answers. He reached toward them, the only thing that he trusted, the mere sight of others putting him closer to the edge. Then there was a shriek, and the unsettling feeling of dissipation. When he awoke he was still angry...but maybe the fragments did not have the answers he was searching for. Malodore was annoyed, though not so much because of the freakish surroundings - no, the once-plague-doctor was irritated because it had been washed out of that laboratory without proper time to experiment! Infuriating. It seemed the pet-body desired to express that irritation through preening, so it permitted itself the action - it was another experiment, after all, to see how instinctive conditioning worked based on morphological appearances. Yes. Clearly. Luce laid down next to it with a sigh, the cwn pup scanning the area constantly despite her apparently relaxed posture. She didn't like this place... Malodore's Stats Character: L.C.
