"Thanks Gran," Eve said and sat down at the table. She was as relaxed as she could get considering the leader's demand. She planned to be gone by then though.

"Thank you" Kane said as he sat down and started to eat some of the food. He looked at the others as he ate.

Eve began to eat as well.
"So you two made up," Dawn asked.
"Did you tell him the truth at last Evening," Gran asked. "I told ya from the start ya'd have to tell him one day."

"She did." Kane answered for her between eating. Before long he had his plate empty. "That was good." He told her as he enjoyed the food that they had, it was better than what he could've made.

"Now you two best git on home," Gran said with a nod. "If yer gonna follow his rules ya should try tonight. If not then git ready ta run you two and if ya run take Dawn with ya." Eve nodded slowly. She was already done eating.

Kane looked at them, quite a family here. He stood up from the table and looked at her Gran and said "Thanks for the food."

"Yer welcome 'ere for food any time till the day I die," Gran said. "And two a community don't make. Ya'll need others if ya wanna run." Eve put her mask back on and nodded.

"Yes." Kane said as he pulled his mask back on and inclined his head towards the door, while looking at Eve.

Eve walked to the door, opened it, and walked out into the cold black night. She looked up at the ash cloud covered sky and thought back to a book she had read.

Kane followed her outside and started towards his place but stopped when he noticed that she was looking up to the sky. "What is it?" He asked trying to be heard over his mask.

"Just wishing I could see the night sky like Gran remembers it," Eve said, turning to look at him though she could not see him.

"Yeah. That would be something to see." Kane said as he glanced up to the sky. "I have a shift tomorrow morning so I need to get some rest." He told her as he waited for her to either say more or start to follow him.

"Kane why did you help me," Eve asked softly. "I hurt you badly last time, I know. Was my explanation really enough or is there more to you forgiving me?"

Kane moved a step closer to her so that she could see him and he moved with a wave of his hand to their surroundings. "I don't think that now is the best time for the answer." He told her as he cut a few glances around.
