The smell of wine was beginning to make her feel sick. Tic had never had a problem with the drink, although she didn't drink it very much. More because it dulled her senses than because of the taste. Now though just the smell was enough to make her stomach twist. That was the easiest part to deal with though. The very touch of this man was making her skin crawl and the way he was looking at her certainly didn't help the feeling. The kiss was making her want to throw up. The worst part however was that she couldn't do anything about it. Usually she was so quick to defend herself physically, although the need had certainly decreased in recent turns. Still for some reason to weakly try and squirm away seemed all she could do.

Suddenly there was more space between the pair, still not as much as Ticene would like, but clean air was rushing back into her system. The sound of the man's clearly aggravated voice brought her attention back to her current problem. The man let loose a string of curses as the candidate from before wrenched his head back. As he swore he seemed not to actually be listening to what Jennes was saying. Finally letting go of her with one hand he used it to try to swipe the young lad away. Ticene seemed to snap into focus in trying to get further away now that only one arm was restraining her.

When the man was shoved he had a hold of Ticene by the upper arm. The motion caused him to stumble, dragging Tic off balance with him. Maybe it was because he was bigger, but he seemed to get his bearings back faster than her, which was considerably unfair given the amount of alcohol she assumed that he had consumed. He managed to catch a hold of her once again and the grip was considerably more painful this time. Ticene ceased her struggling about when she caught sight of R'yn holding his belt knife. The young woman was smart enough to know you didn't go thrashing about when there were knives out.

For a moment Tic's fear still long enough for her to realise what R'yn was saying. He was threatening to kill this man. Because of her. R'yn would contemplate hurting someone that much because they were a threat to her? Tic had been defended before, her brother had done a lot of that when she was younger, but only ever enough to get them to leave her alone. The man however seemed far less effected by R'yn's words. He simply sneered at the rider as though the blade was of no consequence in his drunken mind. "Un y'll be the one t' do tha' w'll you?" His slurring seemed as though if it go any worse he wouldn't be making any sense at all. The man looked down at R'yn and apparently found the idea of the smaller man beating him humorous.

Tic wasn't sure what to do; her mind wouldn't start like it normally would. Should she try and escape while the two of them were focused on each other? Would that only make her more of a risk for R'yn? Tic didn't want R'yn to start anything and then for this man to use her against him. She felt so ridiculously useless being restrained by this man, she had never been this helpless before.

When the Weyrsecond and his family arrived, albeit a little late (T'nus had some things to clear up, and Lavi finally had to put her foot down and say 'no, not in a minute, now!') at least they arrived in style. All their clothes were knew and made specially by Lavi to commemorate the recent firelizard hatching.

T'nus's clothes were light brown with darker accents, and on his back, in dark brown embroidery, his own brown firelizard flew over his left shoulder. Navi's were blue (not by choice but by most adamant request). Spread from his back to his front was Blessing in gold stitches, so that her head peaked over his shoulder and her body and wings were spread across his back until her tail which curled around his waist. Lavi's gown was pale pink, and on her back, following the curve of the dress, a light green 'lizard looked daintily over its shoulder. She even managed to convey the same nervous expression the flitt was wearing even now.

For now, the real Cress was curled about Lavi's shoulders, hiding behind a curtain of blonde hair, but she looked ready to bolt at any instant, and stayed only with the constant encouragement of the other two. Knight's usual spot on the bronzerider's shoulders was being taken up by Navi now, so he flew along with Blessing, chatting animatedly as she glided and bobbed behind them. The brown -T'nus thought- was quite enamoured with her.

They had not gotten far into the gather before Navi spotted his friend going to get food with his sister. "'Onan!" he cried, attempting to climb down from T'nus's shoulders by himself. The moment T'nus put him down, he bolted for the older weyrbrat. Seeing her young companion leaving, Blessing quickly darted away after him, with only a short chirp of farewell to her flirting companion. Dejectedly, Knight came to rest on T'nus's shoulder. T'nus scratched his head sympathetically."Sorry buddy. Maybe next time." He turned to Lavi. "I've got the kid. You go have fun." he said and pulled her by the hand into a quick kiss before he left, following Navi.

By then, Navi had caught up with Ionan an Iona. "Onan! Ooh!" His eyes went wide as he saw the toy. "Tha's pretty! Where'd you get it?" T'nus strolled leisurely up behind them. As the Weyrsecond, he of course tried to remember everyone who came to Ista, but he had particular knowledge of the candidates, because of how much Lavi talked about them. . "Good evening, Iona! Enjoying your rare day off?" he asked, smiling warmly at the young candidate.

That was, until he heard a deafening shriek coming from one the of the dragon's weyrs.
What's this about? he asked Azimuth. Clearly someone's dragon was upset, and that meant a rider might be in danger. Or was it just some drunk dimglows getting into a fight?
It seems a drunk man has attacked the Weyrwoman. Calith is naturally quite upset. But do not fear, T'nus, the Weyrleader has gone to take care of it. the bronze responded, quite unconcerned.
R'yn has? T'nus ask, not as reassured as Azimuth was. Just let me know if it seems like they need help.

Lavi, meanwhile, was on a mission. Navi had gotten into the habit of leaving his wooden toys all over the Weyr, then crying non-stop when they couldn't find one, forcing her and T'nus (aided by a squadron of very helpful flitters) to spend all night looking for them. The solution, she decided, was to get a bag for him to put his toys in that he could carry around with him. The former weaver could, of course, make one herself, but she wanted to see what was on offer first. After going through several stores without success, Lavi finally wandered over to Jennes's stall.

((Sorry so pointlessly long, I've had little else to think about hte last few days XD. R'nan and hopefully Cami to come))

(Catching up, catching up)

"Noa, I'm--" Ionan was interupted by a journeyman baker handing him a bubblypie. Dark eyes widened in awe, and being, he called after the journeyman. "Thank you! Noa, look what he gave me!" he showed his older sister happily. He moved his plush to one arm so he wouldn't get it dirty and held the bubbly pie in the other hand as he took a bite. Warm juices trailed down his chin, but he didn't seem to mind. Tantrum avoided, the boy looked to Iona. "Here, Noa! You have some--" he began, eager to share his good fortune with his older sister. His smile, if it was possible, grew when he spotted that his older sister had one too.

"People are nice!" he agreed, delighted in their luck. "I love gathers!" He finished his pie and hurried to wrap his arms around Jennes. "I love you, too!" he said, beaming at him. "Thank you for selling me them!"

He returned to Iona's side, taking her hand. He waved at Navi when he spotted him. "Hi Navi!" he called, beaming at his friend. "Look what I got! It's a firelizard! I bought it all by myself, too!" He pointed to Jennes' stall proudly. "Did your Papa give you marks?" he asked. "We can go buy stuff! I can teach you to haggle! I know how. I'm really good at haggling! Really good! I bought Dugan and Iona and Tic one, too!" He paused in his excitement, and looked up at T'nus. "I'll watch Navi real good, 'Nus, okay?"

"Noa, I'm hot," he complained again, looking away from his friend's father. "And thirsty." But his complaints were stilled by a stranger approaching the Weyrwoman. At first he thought the man was only after a hug. (What else would a man want with a lady?) Ticene seemed so frightened, though, that he turned to glance at Iona, and then Jennes. "Is he going to hurt Tic?" he asked, eyes wide with fright. "What's he gonna do with her?" His lip trembled, and he attached himself to Iona's leg. "Noa, I'm scared..."
PostPosted: Mon Jul 23, 2012 3:38 pm

"Wow. You got a bubblypie too?" he said as he ran over, seeing the baker push one into Ionan's hand. "Gathers are great!" he agreed. Navi admired the firelizard and gave Ionan a nod of approval. "What's haggle?" he asked. To Ionan's question, he shook his head. "No." But Ionan's tone implied that he should have.

"Dada!" he cried, turning quickly on his heel and running back to the young man. He held up his hands, palms up.
T'nus looked at him, confused. "What?"
"Onan says you'd give me marks." he said, which wasn't exactly what the boy had said, but it was certainly what Navi heard from all that.

T'nus bent down and looked from one boy to the other. "Hmmm.." He hadn't thought about giving Navi any marks, but if Ionan was willing to help him, it might be a good time for Navi to learn about money. "Alright. Navi, how old are you?" Navi counted out on his hand, and held out three fingers. "Alright, 3 1/16 marks." he said, putting them in Navi's hands. "Now put them in your pocket to keep them safe."

He turned to Ionan. "Alright, you look after him. Not too much haggling, though, alright? It might be a little hard for him." he said, winking. He patted Ionan's shoulder comfortingly. "It's alright. R'yn's going to get rid of the bad man. Anyway, Tic has a dragon. She'd never let anything happen to her." he tried to reassure him.

(I'm assuming by the sequence of events in Thali's post that Ionan hugged Jennes before the drunk man showed up.)

The drunk man shoved Jennes away with disheartening ease, making the Candidate stumble back and have to flail his arms to keep his balance. He would have tried going at the man again, but R'yn's raised voice caught his attention. And the weyrleader's knife held it. Jennes hesitated, unwilling to get involved in a knife fight but feeling he ought to do something.

Ionan's worried voice provided a distraction. He glanced over to find the small boy clinging to his sister and watching the developing fight with wide eyes. This was not something children should be seeing. He might not be able to do much for Ticene, but he could take care of kids. He went to kneel in front of Ionan, trying to block the boy's view.

"Tic is going to be fine," he said reassuringly. "R'yn will make the mean man let her go and go away." Best not elaborate on how that might be accomplished. "Besides, Tic has Calith to help if she needs it. Calith could get every dragon in the weyr to get every rider in the weyr to come help if she had to." Considering the volume and fury of the gold dragon's roar, he didn't doubt that she could.

(Good assumption, Mew! You're right! <333)

R'yn dropped his belt knife. Perhaps out of anger or sheer clumsiness, an onlooker wouldn't have been able to tell by the man's reaction. He didn't seem to notice it. Even when it landed on the ground. He closed the gap between himself and the taller, drunk man, glaring up at him. "You will put her down," he said, not voicing the threat that lingered in those words. His very tone spoke of it. This man was going to be in too much pain to enjoy the next Gather. Or the next. Or five turns worth of Gathers.

He clenched a fist. When verbal threats failed, and the desire to kill the man for touching his Weyrmate had faded, he moved to punch the man in the side, avoiding Tic. "No one messes with Ticene," he muttered under his breath. He might have been small, but seven turns of being a dragonrider meant he had built muscle. He punched the man a second time. A third time. A fourth--he didn't seem to want to stop.

He pulled Ticene into his arms, giving the drunk a challenging sneer. He lifted Tic off of her feet. "Come on," he grumped. He made no show of pausing to check if his weyrmate was alright. "We're going to the healers--and then dancing. Maybe we'll find something to eat." How was he supposed to make this up to her? He'd let her get hurt! Trapped. He'd almost failed to save her. He knew he'd have to explain himself to her--that he'd been frightened. Angry.

Ionan moved from his sister and wrapped his arms around J'nes, having for the most part ignored T'nus' reassurance. "Promise?" he asked, softly. For all his imagination and pretending to set ships on fire, to cause trouble, to fight giant tunnel snakes--Ionan was still a small boy, young enough to be upset by the scene before him. "She'll be okay?" He hid his eyes in the older boy's shoulder, sniffling. "I don't want her to get hurt...ever..." And R'yn was being scary, too! Everything was scary! "And Calith'll take care of her, right? Promise, Jennes?"

It was a mystery to Ticene why this man was still not intimidated by R'yn. By this point even she was intimidated by him and R'yn had never managed to frighten Tic like this. They had argued before, they had fought terribly in the past, but R'yn had never scared her before. Right now Tic wasn't certain what R'yn was capable of. Either the man had drunk enough to make him a total imbecile or he was very confident in his own abilities. She didn't really care what it was, right now she was more concerned about R'yn getting himself hurt or doing something he would regret than what this man thought.

When R'yn's first punch landed Tic tried to move away from the man, but he still managed to keep a hold on her. Luckily she had managed to turn herself around and get some space between them. Bringing her arm forward Ticene threw it back, slamming her elbow into the man's stomach. At the same time R'yn's second punch hit. The combined blows were enough to loosen his grip that Tic could wrench herself away. The woman shot forward and away faster than a firelizard could go between. Calith's noise finally ceased as Tic reached out for the reassurance of the dragon. She was still furious, but knew that Tic was out of the man's arms now. That was enough for her to cease her violent cries.

Looking around Ticene looked considerably startled. It was a peculiar look for a woman who usually looked so confident and composed. She missed the other punches R'yn threw that eventually brought the man down. She didn't care what state the man was in, she just wanted to be away from there. When R'yn caught a hold of her Tic's first instinct was to flee, telling her that the danger had not yet passed. Her mind soon caught up to her fear long enough to point out just who was holding onto her. Tic went willingly to R'yn, huddling as close to her weyrmate as she could. She'd been so scared she didn't ever want to feel that way again.

A surprised sound escaped her when she was picked up. R'yn had never done that in front of people before; he knew she wouldn't like it if he did. Over the turns her weyrmate had developed the habit of picking her up at times, most often when Tic refused to leave her work despite it being ridiculously late at night. Despite her dislike of the idea of people being able to see her being carried like a child, Ticene was just too tired to argue with him right now. Instead she just gave up and let her apparently grumpy weyrmate have his way.

That was until he mentioned where they would go. Immediately Tic tensed up at the idea. "I can't!" In her currently shaken state the protest came out louder than intended, causing Tic to immediately cover her mouth with her hands. "I can't go to the healers. I- I- I have to..." Tic didn't stammer out of fear or anything similar, she simply couldn't think of an excuse not to go fast enough. "Calith! I have to go and calm Calith; you know she'll be frantic by now." Tic looked at R’yn, eyes imploring him not to make her go. Couldn’t they go somewhere else, she was fine, really. There was no harm done. Maybe a little bruising where he’d held onto her, but that was all. Ticene had never particularly liked healers before, never enjoying being inspected. However before it had never gone past reluctance. It was clear by her attempt to provide excuses and her more adamant protests that something else was amiss besides her usual dislike.

Feronell grinned. "I'm glad you think so." He led them to the kitchens, clutching his newly found egg tightly, not wanting to drop it. It was odd that they both had found eggs, and he had to wonder if perhaps someone had done this intentionally. As sort of a treasure hunt or something?

Still, that wasn't important at the moment, and he paused outside of the door. The area where the scraps were kept shouldn't be too busy at the moment, but he would have to go across the kitchen to snag the mugs. Doable, but it would be easier if just one of them went. "Alright," he said, grinning conspiratoraly at him. "The meat will be off to the left, and I'll join you over there in a moment. There won't be any mugs where the meat is, so I'm going to grab them from the clean dishes."

Right. That would work. He opened up the kitchen door, and then darted across, trusting that Tadej would go over to the meat and wait. The faster he could get the mugs, the sooner they could get out of there, and the less chance of being snagged to help out in the kitchens. He chuckled to himself, and then stopped quickly as one of the kitchen workers passed by, not wanting to run into them. She smiled at him, and with a finger pressed against her lips, slipped a blubbly pie into his hand.

"Thanks." he mouthed, grinning at her. This really was a lucky day! He continued on, and then, once he found the mugs, snagged a pair of them, and returned to Tadej. "Here we go!"

Good, good! Jennes hadn't verbalized that she had slipped him some coin to cover the rest of the cost of the toys Ionan was wanting to buy people. She smiled to him and gave him a nod. It made her happy to hear other people saying good things about her brother. She knew them already and knew just as well that he could be quite a handful. People sometimes tended to fixate on the bad over the good, or they didn't appreciate the people as a whole.

Before hardly any time passed, a few decidedly less savory characters came by, the flirty woman towards R'yn and the overly amorous drunkard towards Ticene. Their nearby presence caused her grip on the two stuffed animals in hand to tighten with her tension. The woman didn't linger hardly any time at all, but the drunk really wasn't getting the picture. Calith's shrieking roar caused her to jump. Jennes had made a move to help and R'yn was giving it his all, in spite of the fact that the drunk was a taller. And there was a knife out now!

She took a moment to finish her bubblypie, keeping the two toys in her possession, under her arm to keep them clean. When Ionan was once again at her side, his smaller hand finding a place in hers, she gave it a gentle squeeze.

The arrival of Navi and T'nus brought a light smile to her face, but the furrow in her brow betrayed her worry. "Oh, good evening, Weyrsecond T'nus." She gave short laugh and held up the two plush animals that Iona had picked out at Ionan's prompting and purchasing. "I am," Sparing a glance over at the rising tension before looking back up to T'nus, she continued. "It's been pretty fun. Ionan and I got free pies and he decided to buy little toys for myself and a few others. This one is for me," She said giving the stuffed feline a wiggle. "The dog is for Dugan." Iona nodded, once again tucking the two plushes under her arm.

"Ionan, let's not get carried away, alright? If we don't spend everything here at the gather, that means we have some for next time or should we want anything later. We'd already have a head start in saving. More for next time! That'd be a good thing." She nodded to cement her point. The candidate frowned at Ionan's complaining. "I know, Ionan, I know. We'll get something cool to drink very soon." Iona followed her brother's gaze to the drunk, R'yn, and Ticene. "No. Nothing is going to happen. No one will let anything happen to Ticene."

Jennes joined them and knelt in front of Ionan to help block his view of what was going on and T'nus offered his own bit of reassurance. She lowered her voice to something just over a whisper. "Thanks, you guys." The obvious worry in Ionan's features and tone tugged at her heartstrings. "Ionan, come here." She dipped down and pulled him into her arms, turning so that he'd be facing away from the drama that had been unfolding. While such things made her nervous, she preferred that she be nervous to her little brother being scared. "It'll calm down soon."

It is over. Gareth's was successful in freeing his mate. Just as I guessed.
T'nus looked behind to see R'yn carrying Ticene away, just like the hero at the end of a story. He smiled and turned back to the young boy.
"See, Ionan, everything's fine. The good guys always win."

He slapped his hands on his knees, and stood up decisively. "How about I go get those drinks?" he suggested. T'nus patted the Ionan's back gently to get his attention. "I'll leave Navi to you, alright?" he said, as if his words were directed at Ionan, but he looked to Iona, as well, as he asked 'alright?' hoping she would keep an eye on him as well. "Jennes! You want a drink as well?" he asked.

While all this was going on, Navi was wandering around by himself, nearby. Only Blessing followed him around, walking behind him on the ground. His eyes on the ground and he stooped to the floor, picking up rock and buttons, and anything else he found that interested him, when suddenly he noticed a small bag lying on the floor, half covered in dust. He ran over, and brushed the dirt from it before he picked it up and looked inside. When he saw what was in it, he turned around excitedly, to show his friend.

Navi was quite oblivious to the excitement going on behind him, but he couldn't miss the tension he sensed from the Ionan and the two older children. Looking up, he ran back over and looked from Iona and Jennes to his friend. "Ionan, what's wrong?" he asked, reaching up to tap the boy's leg as he was being held by his sister. He held up the bag of marks he'd just found. "Ionan, look, look what I found. I'll give you one so don't be sad, okay?"

Navi stopped and wiped his brow with the back of his hand, spreading dirt across his forehead. All this finding things and comforting people was tiring! "Where's daddy?" he suddenly asked.

T'nus was on his way back from getting the drinks, when he was distracted by a stall for food, to buy them something to eat as well. Just as he was leaving, he was corned by a young woman, twirling her hair on her finger and leaning into him. With both hands full, there was nothing T'nus could do but back away from her, until he was pinned against the side of the stall. "Uh, hello.. D-did you need something?"

Iona met T'nus's gaze and nodded her head in understanding. She'd watch over Navi while he went off to get drinks. It wasn't a big thing and one she'd happily do. After all, he was good friends with Ionan.

Thankfully Navi seemed pretty preoccupied with finding little treasures in the dirt and sand. Iona bounced her brother on her hip before offering Navi a little smile when he turned back around to rejoin them from his nearby treasure hunt. She knelt back down, letting Ionan stand with an arm wrapped loosely around him. If he wanted to slip free to interact with Jennes or Navi, he could do so."That's a great find, Navi. Good eye! That's very nice of you, but why don't you keep your findings? Ionan is okay." She looked to her little brother and patted his back. "Isn't that so, Ionan? You're okay?"

Iona chuckled and brought her free hand up to wipe away one of the more serious smudges across Navi's forehead. "Your daddy went to go get some drinks, but he'll be right back. Ionan and I are going to keep you company until he gets back. What all have you been finding? You look like you've been quite busy." From the corner of her eye, something silvery glinted. She flinched with a surprised gasp. "Eep!" Pausing a moment, she looked around to find a thin chain of silver, what appeared to be a necklace "Oh, look. Someone dropped a piece of jewelry." She said, lifting the chain out of the dirt, holding it up so the boys could see.

Walking around doing a spot of people watching, Lute wasn't paying too much attention to where exactly she was heading, just that she was going wherever her feet took her, or wherever the crowded looked particularly interesting.
