Vremea's smile wavered for a moment when she said it was great to see the queen. She couldn't help it, what happened in the desert haunted her. She felt like the queen would interrogate her or many highbloods would come after her at once, telling her to spill(whether it was blood or details, she didn't know), and then cull her and cull everyone she knew. It was improbable, but very unsettling and her paranoia couldn't be cured just because it might not happen. She inhaled deeply, trying to calm herself. She had gotten too agitated. "I heard there is a sandcastle contest taking place sometime soon, and then, a waterballoon fight and a scavenger hunt. Lastly, a hunting contest... All within these three days!" She said, the smile on her face renewed. What if Minist was very loyal to the Queen but she just didn't show it and she accidentally told Minist? Afterall, she didn't see her with the rebels... She could tell the Queen and it'd turn into a huge mess.... She had to try and keep up the façade.

Byakko nodded sagely, listening intently to Taquin speak. She burned his words into her mind, replaying it as her own responses were calculated; why did he think it was a disappointment? The options were vast, surely; the most obvious being the own annoying rumble in the pit of Akko's stomach. She had no beetles to spend on the food here, and surely many lowbloods were in the same position. And wasn't pitting blood castes against one another in poor taste, too? In all honesty Byakko hadn't the chance to see too much of the festivities; she had spent perhaps a little too much time trying to find and stalk down their 'Queen'. Akko knew there was no chance in hell she'd ever get close enough to do anything to Regina- especially here, no, never- but just being able to glare angrily at the back of that midget's head was satisfying enough for now. It was only a matter of time, after all...

"Disappointment?" she echoed emptily. Byakko really had nothing to compare this Bloodfest to; this was the first year a Queen ran it, right? At least in their miniscule recorded history, that much Akko was fairly sure of. Were past Bloodfests that significantly different? "I'm guessing previous years were better, then." A pang of regret mixed with a spritz of guilt- Trolldad had always pushed her to go each year. Maybe if she had, even once, she'd have better insight...

She paused a moment, lifting a hand to grasp her chin in thought. "The Queen..." she started, lips trembling into a visible scowl while the words graced her lips. "Is hosting Bloodfest this year, right?" Like she gave two hoofbeast piles about caste equality. Regina was up to something, the mutantblood was sure of it! Using Bloodfest to reglorify Old Hemisect could just have been the tip of the iceberg. "Don't you find that a bit..." Byakko trailed off, struggling for a few seconds to find the right words. "Disconcerting? And pitting castes against each other, that seems counter productive." Akko clenched her jaw, cutting herself off before she rambled on too much. Needless to say, there were many things Akko was displeased with, and curious about. Crossing her arms tightly around her waist, the rebel leader lifted an eyebrow ever so slightly as she returned her firm gaze back to Taquin.

Good, she was nibbling at the hook now. Taquin had not been expecting this, but it pleased him to find a stranger willing to hold a worthwhile conversation with him. He let the corner of his lips curl up into a small smile as she became more intent on the conversation. "Actually, this is my first sweep attending, as well," he replied. "I have been basing my comparison on what a friend had told me of Bloodfest, and whatever this little occasion is trying to be, it isn't living up to what it stands for." Taquin's agitation began to show while his speech went on. "And yes, the Queen can't have many positive intentions for this event. She's holding it to create a guise of unity in our the spectrum, catching the lowbloods' loyalty in her grasp..."

He stilled his words for a moment, forcing himself to look back to the redblood in front of him. He'd always found it too foolish to voice opinions like these aloud, but this troll here did not seem like that sort of threat. After all, she was the first to express her distaste for their monarchy. He narrowed his eyes beneath his lenses as he continued, "...Only to strangle it when the time is right." Those words hung in the air between them, thick with the vapor of treason. They both knew how if they became too deep with their accusations, a couple lowbloods like them could be culled within the blink of an occular. The fear sat in the back of Taquin's mind, but he refused to take back what he'd said, for he meant it, and he doubted anyone would over-hear them in their hiding spot anyway.

Even so, he lowered his voice. "If you were to ask me, I'd wager the Battle Royale had served the same sort of purpose." He wanted to add more, but held back. This time it wasn't because he was afraid she wasn't interested, because she was definitely interested, but she was still a stranger who hadn't quite earned his trust. Speaking of that... "By the way, may I know what your name is?" he asked her. It was prudent to know to whom you were speaking to when revealing conspiracies such as these.

It was his first Bloodfest too? Akko couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed. He only had first hand recollections, as did she; although they both could certainly agree on expectations not being met. Trolldad had always painted Bloodfest to be some sort of gathering where for a few precious hours, blood colour meant next to nothing. This Bloodfest seemed to be almost the polar opposite... but really, what did either of them know? Byakko really did have to talk to someone with first hand experiences before the night was over.

While Taquin's agitation began to show more as he spoke, Byakko grew even stiller. Her face frozen in an intense stare, she squeezed herself tighter for a moment while he spoke. Sure, she had been the one that brought up the Queen in the first place, but this orangeblood seemed comfortable voicing such treasonous accusations with a total stranger. Truth be told Akko was a little taken aback by his audacity; they were right out here in the moonlight, surrounded by highbloods! Akko wasn't too familiar with the habits of lowbloods; maybe this sort of stuff was the norm? It certainly was among the rebels but they had the safety of their hideouts and pledges of allegiance; she had always been taught to be hush-hush about such things outside of their ranks. Regardless she couldn't help but agree with him whole heartedly; and if there was such a thing as the right troll to whisper these things to, it was Byakko. She nodded somberly, but surely- it was no wonder he had been one of the new recruits.

As per usual Akko took her precious time collecting the words for her response. She knew the risks just as well as Taquin did for discussing such matters aloud, (but that was part of the fun wasn't it?), and spoke in equally hushed tones. "Between you and me," she stalled briefly, almost as if she was debating not finishing the thought. "Once Old Hemisect is fixed up, there's going to be a huge problem with all the lowblood squatters that currently live here." Surely it was a thought that had crossed many a mind; but how many had overlooked it thanks to all the festivities? The Queen was a sneaky one, that was for sure. Bloodfest made for the perfect distraction, heck, the sand castle competition? Very cute, very charming, very devious. There was a low growl from the back of Byakko's throat as she thought about it, voice dropping even lower. "I don't think it's going to be very pretty."

Akko straightened up, blinked a few times, allowed her arms to drop once more to her side as Taquin questioned her. Her name? Taquin was a rebel, but barely. She had been prepared for this- never use your real name when dealing with civilians, that's what Trolldad had taught her. She had already adopted his blood colour, now that he was gone it didn't seem like borrowing his childhood name would cause any harm. "Zhuque." She answered quickly, casually. "And yours?"

It was a good thing that the band onstage was choosing to play such a raucous of songs. The matters that he and this short-horned redblood were beginning to dive further into were dangerous waters in such a populated place. If they were to venture out of the shadows, they'd find Drones lurking about everywhere, ready to arrest any warmblood that even glances at them funny. It was almost as if fate had brought them together in such a convenient spot, but Taquin didn't believe in such things. It was simply a lucky coincidence.

The insinuation about Old Hemisect took him slightly by surprise. He hadn't even pondered the dilemmas associated with the Queen's new construction project. He didn't live there, so it wasn't much of a bother to him, although... The girl had a very good point. If they were to rebuild this rundown city, it would coax the seadwellers out of their ocean and onto land with the rest of them. It was beginning to sound almost as if the Queen was assembling the entire race... but for what? Nothing good, Taq could perceive that, at least. From what he knew of Alternian history (and though it was more than most, it was still a pitiful amount), one could never trust the high authority.

As she gave him her name, he thought it a strange title for a female. But what did he know? Perhaps she had an eccentric lusus. "Nickat," he told her. "A pleasure to meet you, Zhuque." You thought he was going to give his true name this time? Funny. If this lady ever decided to backstab and turn him into the authorities, she certainly wasn't going to utter the name "Taquin" to any officer or royal guard. And by the furthest ring, he was never going to be Paxell again. That boy was long deceased as long as he had a say in the matter.

He still spoke quietly as he agreed with her. "I don't believe the Queen has any care for the trolls who get in the way of her projects, no." He went silent once again. Taquin would have liked to hear more of what this troll had to say, but perhaps they should move farther from the crowd. If they were to stay in one place for too long, something they said would inevitably slip into the hearducts of someone nearby. He glanced into the crowd, and even up at the roofs of the stalls, to make sure they were safe thus-far. Before he began to back farther down the alley, he paused as he looked back into Zhuque's still face, and motioned her to follow.

Odette's music tape ended with a satisfying click. Though she loved to dance, it always took a toll on her fragile body. She took a deep, thankful bow to her patrons, but she doubted many stayed for the whole dance. Straightening her stance and opening her eyes, she realized just how wrong she was. Standing there watching was Athene, Vremea, and... another yellowblood? She seemed rather rebellious, and Odette wasn't sure if that was a good thing anymore after recent events. The nasty gash on her back had hardly healed since the fight with that jadeblood.

Odette dreaded thinking about it. What was important was that her friends were here. "Athene, Vremea!" Odette squealed, rushing to their side, "It's such a pleasure to see you both!" Athene didn't seem pleased at all, though. Perhaps she didn't enjoy the dance? Turning to the other yellowblood, she added "And it's a pleasure to meet you, too. Though, I can't say I've met you before. My name is Odette Cygnet. I assume you're already acquainted with Vremea and Athene?"

"Likewise, Nickat." Byakko returned his pleasantry, nodding her head in his direction briefly. After unwittingly exchanging false names, Akko once again nodded in agreement. The Queen only cared for her own best interests- that was certainly another thing they could agree upon. There wasn't a single thing that fushiablood did with all of her people equally in mind; the mutant was sure of that just as much as she was certain her blood didn't fall into the hemospectrum. But such was the caste system...

Byakko watched Nickat glance around for eavesdroppers with an unwavering stare. They were still alone, she was confident of that. Her peripherals were sharpened and alert at all times, as a mutant she had to be prepared for anything at the drop of a wrigglerbonnet! Regardless, 'Zhuque' seemed to stiffen as Taquin gestured for her to follow him deeper into the stall alleyways. He hardly seemed the threat, if anything they were having the closest thing to a conversation Byakko had with a non-hooded rebel in quite some time. Still, she felt a small ball of nerves bunch at the base of her throat as she took a couple apprehensive strides towards the orangeblood. What more was there to say that couldn't be whispered where they already stood? Something of significance? Following a few paces behind him Akko remained silent, waiting for this Nickat to speak up.

Zhuque's hesitation to travel further down the alley did not slip past Taquin's sight globes. It seemed reasonable of her to be wary at this time, but what exactly was she suspecting him of? Ah, maybe she thought him to be an agent of the queen undercover, searching out little traitors to cull. Gog, he hoped he didn't give off some sort of thug-like aura. He was revolted by the thought, and subconsciously loosened his stance to put them both more at ease. He kept walking, making sure to keep track of her footsteps behind him. "I'm sure we both understand how delicate this subject is, and how easily people of our hue can be implicated of treason... But it's also very important."-he paused for dramatic effect- " A royally-led event is not the place for this, but still. This sort of conversation should be nourished, don't you think?

He turned back to face her and check for understanding in her expression. There was enough distance between them and the crowd by the stage now that they would not be able to hear, and any eavesdropper in the booths the two were currently hiding behind would not have heard the implications made earlier. It should be safe now to make additional plans. However, before Taquin would say another word, he wanted some sort of assent from this redblood that she was following his train of thought. Vagueness was prudent, but comprehension was crucial.

The second track ended with a rather underwhelming reception from the audience for which Talymn blamed the lack of proper accompanying instrumentals but the band wasn't ready to call it quits just yet as the rummer barreled away into a thunderous rampage. The three guitars sounded like they were trying to catch up with the rhythm before harmonising for the initial bars of their third song choice, their players standing back at their respective microphones again and the voices barely audible amidst the powerful instruments. They were chanting in unison, albeit slightly off-key according to Talymn's hearing for which he was once again able to attribute as being the second guitarist's fault, and trying their best to get the audience pumped up once more. Talymn himself even trying to encourage them to join in with the chorus chant as he took the centre stage again.

"Hey-HEY! Miss Murder, can I~?
Make beauty stay if I...
Take my life...?"

"Ooooh~!" He chimed in, his eyes turning skyward as the intro began to pan out. His grip on the microphone was firm but gentle now, almost caressing it once again as he waited for his cue. This song always held something of a curious meaning for him and he was wanting to share that with his audience, but from where he stood, it wasn't going to be as personal as he wanted. And so, just a second before his cue started, he unclipped the mic and hopped off the stage. Inadvertently, all attention was on him again.

"Oh with just a look... they shook...
And the Heavens bowed b'fore him...~"

He sang, venturing through the crowd but still keeping a relatively close distance to the stage front. His eyes shining with a distant longing while his voice carried a deep soulful yearning; becoming the audible embodiment of the lyrics that him imparted with those listening.

"Oh, simply a look... can break... your heart..."

The last two words left his lips just as he locked his gaze with an audience member, but he said them with such softness, the mic almost didn't catch it. An inadvertently private moment shared with that lucky troll that would linger even as he continued into the rest of the song, moving backwards to the stage again.

"The stars that pierce the sky!
He left them all behind...
We're left to wonder why...
He. Left. Us. All. BEHIND~!"

With that belted power chord, he fell back onto the stage, performing a quick backwards somersault that fluidly brought him back onto his feet while the band marched onwards through the song. The performance, Talymn felt, was going on splendidly now as he bounded about the stage again, but suddenly, during the second verse, another voice harmonised with him through the speakers, causing him to nearly stop as he turned to see that the band's leader had finally joined them on stage. As the verse transferred into the third choral repeat, the two exchanged a rather sultry greeting, both of them sharing the same microphone for a few lines before parting to the opposite ends of the stage.

The band leader started up into the bridge and then Talymn joined in, breaking into the distinct, lamenting wail that the song called for. It was beautiful, raw and invigorating; the band leader providing an amazing vocal accompaniment and was decent enough to not try to over power the other. As the song came to its crashing end, Talymn was reluctant to leave the stage as he gave his last bows; a formal introduction, a last exchange of pleasantries with the band, then all too soon he was lounging back stage with a bottle of Faygo in hand, sentenced to enjoy the rest of the activities as a normal patron.

Yay.

BYAKKOx MAWIYAxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Byakko simply nodded in agreement once more. Their simple exchange of words could certainly get them culled- such treason was not acceptable in the eyes of society and they were playing with fire by speaking so freely, albeit hidden, at an event like Bloodfest. Royal guards lurked at every corner, and highbloods were parading around obnoxiously, drunk with their victory. But really, that's what made it so fun...

"I think it's essential such conversation be nourished." Akko responded immediately, confidently- not biding her time and mulling over every syllable as she usually did. Confidence compelled her further. "Where there is repression and an idea against it, there is rebellion. With dissentience comes change." A brief smile flickered in the corners of 'Zhuques' lips, moreso from her own inside joke than anything she had preached. Falling silent once more, she rose an eyebrow and continued to hold her firm gaze on Nickat. Now what did he have to say to her? Surely there was a reason he had dragged her down through the alleys. Akko was intrigued by this orangeblood- it was fairly obvious why he had been interested in the Rebellion, but what did he have to bring to the table aside from his willingness to talk smack about the Queen? She was certain there was more to this kid, and Akko had every intention on keeping an eye on him.

The orangeblood's eyebrows raised a bit in surprise as she snapped her eyes to his, caught up in her glare like an antlerbeast in the torchlights. Oh, that had struck a nerve, but he gulped, and stayed strong as she started to talk him down for the little offhanded remark. Served him right, he supposed.

He gave a little squeak as he was jabbed, and did his best to look reproachful so that she wouldn't be too cross with him. "Oh...should I go find one?" he looked pretty horrified, but the question was meant as a joke, and he laughed after a moment, a scared, nervous little sound. "D-don't be mad...it was a dumb thing for me to say. I bet you've slain droves of adversaries, haven't you, to get where you are. You're the strongest...smartest. Which is why the city is going to look so good when you carry out those plans!"

a**-kissing, he felt, was a good way to turn around the situation he'd dug himself into. Purplebloods always seemed to like that sort of thing, and he gave her a hopeful little smile, speaking as sincerely as he could.

There was a uncertain silence as the orangeblood laughed, then the queen picked it up as well, wahahahaing so loudly that a few other trolls turned to look. And stare, and point, and mutter to each other. That seadweller, wasn't that...? Giving him another winding slap between the shoulder blades, she nodded happily at his frantic attempts to placate her. Apart from his unfortunate tendency to stray onto less pleasing topics, this troll knew how to treat his royalty. With bladder trembling fear.

"Ahhhhh, well I have knocked off a few trolls getting in my way, over the course of time, yeah. Of course, most of it was before I took the throne, so the vast epics of those battles have yet to be written. I don't suppose you know any trolls that write good, do you?"

A few clouds of annoyance flickered over her visage as she considered the disturbing lack of epic novels dedicated to her exploits. Those were the kind of things that good solid monarchies were built on, weren't they? Her eyes too in the crowd, noting the stares and quick turn-aways as her gaze passed over faces, then back down to Pup-whatshisname. Staying standing in this location was no good, she was drawing far to much attention for now.

"Say, you hungry? I'm hungry. Want to get some snacks?"

Oh, the relief that came when she began to laugh was etched across his face, plain as moonlight. His laughter escalated a bit as well, though it was nowhere near as voluminous as Regina's, and still on the nervous side. A yalp was tossed in somewhere when she slapped him on the back (about where his wings originated, ow), but he kept on laughing, sort of happy that the joke had sat well. Or maybe she was just laughing at him...but whatever. It was better than getting his a** kicked by the queen herself.

"They haven't? What a shame...I bet they would be awfully exciting." he said, his eyes widening a little as he pondered over it. What an interesting notion, the tales and exploits of their leader. He wondered if they would be any better than the stories he had back at home. "I don't personally, though...well, not to brag, but I rather enjoy writing." he admitted shyly. He enjoyed that sort of expressive activity, though poetry was his forte.

Once she changed the subject, he seemed keen to follow along, realizing what he might have potentially volunteered to do just then, by admitting such a thing. Him, write stories for the queen! It was preposterous, if not a little bit amazing...but she also had a good point. Snacks sounded really good, and he brightened up.

"Ooh, yeah! They have all sorts of tasty-smelling stuff for sale...what should we have first?" he craned his neck to glance toward the rows of vendors, beyond the crowd, figuring it would be good form to let her pick.
