Lightning felt his blush deepen. "To you," he muttered. Well, at least she thought it was funny. He, on the other hand, would've loved nothing more than the earth to swallow him whole in his sleep. He glanced at her when she yawned, even more embarrassed at her comment. Was she flirting with him? Nobody flirted with him!
His speculation came to a screeching halt when she all but tackled him. He felt every fiber in his body tense in reaction and instantly move to remove the threat. This time, though, he caught himself before he'd done anything more than uncurl and pull his chest from the mud. 'It's just Ithil, it's just Ithil. Not an enemy to engage in battle. Not a bully trying to humiliate you in front of his fling. It. Is. Just. Ithil. Do not engage. Do not move.' He forced himself to return to laying down completely, Ithil's upper body still resting against his back. Even so, his muscles remained tensed and he had his eyes shut as he recited his mental reassurance to himself--and tried to slow his racing heartbeat. His body gave an involuntary shudder as his imagination brought to mind what could have happened if he hadn't stopped himself. The image wasn't a pretty one.
Eventually he got his throat to relax enough to speak. "Warning next time?" he asked wearily, his lightning blue eyes opening to stare at his front paws. Or at least, the mud that contained his front paws; he'd shoved them into the soil to prevent any unintended injuries.

Feeling the male twitch Ithil braced herself to be tossed him. She nearly slipped off when he started to get up but she managed to stay on somehow. It probably helped that he laid back down quickly enough. She let him calm down and wondered why he shivered. He didn’t feel all that cold. If anything he was a small fire nice and warm. When he spoke she frowned. “I did give you warning. I said you wouldn’t escape. How stop you from getting away if I didn’t lay on you? Besides pillows are meant to be laid on.” She made a loud humph sound and mumbled to herself. “Besides I’d like to see you try and hurt yourself running into a wall with me on you. Not gonna happen stupid.” She didn’t know if he heard her or not and really didn’t care. She started to shift her weight so that she could get more comfortable and stopped herself. If she wriggled too much she might end up putting pressure on his sore spots. Settling down best she could while avoiding his right should and left flank she made sure to stay on top of him. This male had far too much of a tendency to get hurt or hurt himself to just leave him alone. Sulking she wonders what he’s got against others being on him. Was it others or just her? The more she thought about it the more she wasn’t sure. Sure he didn’t like her but did he even like anyone? She might be a pain in the tail but even Ith had someone she felt close to before.. No! Shaking her head she dashed that memory. She was not going to think about it now. "um hey"

"I didn't expect you to launch yourself on top of me," Lightning growled irritably. "Even 'banzai' would've been a better warning." At least that sounded like a battle cry. Ithil's so-called "warning" had been irritated, but calm--and definitely didn't make him suspect she'd tackle him. "And I'm not a pillow." At her mumbled comment, he scowled. "Wouldn't have happened if you hadn't snickered at me," he grumbled.
Lightning's eyes narrowed, his gaze burrowing into the mud that he'd shoved his paws into. He tried to keep his mind off of the memories that Ithil's weight on his back brought. He could feel the claws digging into his flesh, the wild laughter and jeers echoing in his ears so clearly it felt like their owners were right there.
'Focus on something else,' he ordered his mind. A second later, Ithil's voice cut through the phantom ones haunting him. "Um what?" he replied flatly, despite his effort to remove his sour mood. He couldn't blame her too much, he decided. After all, she had no knowledge of the mental monsters her actions kept trying to unleash. And Lightning had, as usual, made a point of not voicing his distress in a normal manner. He did not yelp; he did not whine. The Gladier just silently endured it. Ithil wasn't a mind reader--or if she was, she wasn't a very good one. Even so, the half-tackle still irritated him. He wasn't used to anyone being that close to him. Well, in a non-violent scenario. Not since he was a kit. What was Ithil thinking? Even some friends felt uncomfortable at this much physical contact. More flirting? A joke? Or was it just her? Maybe she was trying to push his buttons... she'd definitely been doing that a lot.

Distracted by his words she addressed her new thoughts before circling back to the old ones. “Bonzai? What does that mean?” She gave an credulous look to the back of Lightning’s head. “And what do you mean it wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t snicker at you, what does my laughter have to do with anything?” Rolling off the male she moved in front of him and stared at him. He was shoving his paws in the mud and making himself all messy again. “I only got on you so you wouldn’t dash off into something else and actually hurt yourself more than you already have. And now you’re saying it’s my fault you dashed off in the first place? What kind of idiot runs off when someone tries not to laugh? I was gonna ask you why it was that you had those injuries, but now I’m thinking you have more problems than just a few little scrapes here and there.” She fixed him with her most penetrating glare. “Just what is wrong with you? Why are so so…” She didn’t have the words for what she wanted to say instead she tossed her head to the side with a huff. “So infuriating! Honestly I don’t understand you, you do reckless things that would make even the bravest gladier cringe you freak out over odd things and you clearly have a habit of getting yourself hurt. You worse than…..” She stopped mid sentence and stood there for a heartbeat. Then she shut her mouth slowly and turned away from the male. Walking back to the other side of the shelter she lay back down where she had been and curled up. She didn’t want to think about her friend who was gone but all the memories came back. How she lost her friend and didn’t even know it until later. She was not going to cry. Curling up tighter she sniffled trying to keep the tears that threatened to come at bay.

"Banzai. I think it means 'charge' or something. It's some sort of battle cry." Lightning sighed irritably as she pounded him with questions. "Because other than just now, girls snickering means that their man's setting up a prank for me or about to pounce on me," he snapped. "I get attacked a lot, ok?! I don't exactly get quality time to relax." Unless he counted storms, and even if he did, this one had been anything but relaxing. When she ranted and cut off, he looked up at her. He watched her walk across the shelter and curl up by herself. He was tempted to just leave her be and get five minutes of guaranteed sleep, but he felt bad. Lightning pulled his paws from the mud, retracting his claws and trotting over to her. He curled up beside her, facing away but letting his back touch hers. After several moments of silence, he sighed and tried to explain himself. "I don't know why I'm not afraid of the same things everyone else is afraid of. They just doesn't bother me. They've never bothered me. And apparently that bothers everyone else." He took a deep breath before continuing. "I have more scars than I can count because I was bullied as a kit. Eventually I ended up stronger than my bullies, and... they don't take well to being pummeled by their punching bag. I freak out over what you see as odd things because they are all tied to the one thing I am terrified of--and something you're most likely very familiar with. Sorry that I'm infuriating and that I'll probably end up staying that way." The instant his explanation was done, his throat tightened and refused to let him ramble further. Had he really just told her all of that? Why? Ithil was clearly upset and probably didn't even want to be on this subject anymore. She'd asked the questions, yes, but that didn't mean he should've told her so much.

He was next to her, but she didn’t care. Ithil was in another spot of her mind. Memories tugged at her making her want to cry. When he spoke she heard him but it took a while before she actually put his words together in her mind so she could actually listen to what he had to say. So he’d been bullied? Well she was used to that. She’d been bullied when she was little too, but then again she’d had someone who looked out for her. While they had been around anyway. She wanted to be mad at him but couldn't bring herself to hate him. She tried for several minutes in silence before she gave up. Stupid male. “Yeah you’re an idiot, but I get it. I got bullied a lot as a kit too. So I guess I could try and cut you more slack. Who knows maybe we could be friends. We apparently have enough in common to make a lake and down another gladier in it.” She sniffled loudly still feeling like she as going to cry.
“I know how painful it is to be different. How any connection you make feels special enough to make you weep and laugh at the same time. How much losing a connection hurts. So if we can agree to get along for a little while I can’t promise a connection like that but I can say that I’d spend some time and not attack you like the others did, even if you are an idiot that deserves a good smack upside the head for being stupid and reckless.” It wasn’t the most elegant extension of friendship but Ithil wasn’t used to making friends. The one she had made was one who more or less claimed her without Ithil’s consent or want. In a way she was doing that to the male now. Huh it was odd how life made some things come around in circles. The same thing, just with new people and new reasons.

Lightning flinched when the first words out of her mouth were stating he as an idiot. He had just relaxed again when she made her 'make a lake' comment, which made him stiffen. The fact that she sniffled after that made him even more uncomfortable. Still, he listened to her words intently, and in doing so realization suddenly struck him like a brick. 'I remind her of someone.' That's why she'd trailed off after saying he was worse than... someone. It was why she freaked out when he was doing reckless things. He thought about inquiring, but it seemed he was already pushing enough buttons with her.
Agreeing to get along? That didn't sound too bad. Even if she did keep insulting his intelligence. "Kay," he mumbled, shifting so he was facing the same direction that Ithil was. Then... "J-Just don't faint again, ok? That freaked me out."

Fainting scared him? He was joking right? It wasn’t like she hissed at him or growled. Well Ith could only shaker her head. “I make no promises, but I’ll do my best.” She half turned half rolled on her back to look at him. It meant she was dirty again, but she didn’t care. If the storm was ended she could find a place to wash off in some comfort. Sticking her tongue out at the male she decided he wasn’t too bad to hang around with. If she where with him then at least she’d have someone to talk to and not quite so much time on her own to think. It was never good when she did that too often.
“So then Pawn of storms got a place you live or hang out at?” Ith didn’t really have a place to call her own so if she were going to spend any time wither her new ‘friend’ then she’d have to figure out how to find him.

Lightning relaxed a little when she didn't make any snide comments to his request. It may have seemed silly to her, but to him...
Ithil's question caught him offguard. He opened his mouth to reply, then closed it again. It took him a couple of minutes to formulate an answer. "Well, I tend to hang out where other Gladiers don't. I usually stick to the forest or those glowing fields." He didn't even bother trying to place names to the places; he'd never been good at remembering them. "Sometimes I head into the mountains, but only when there's a storm..." He looked up at the remnants of the storm for a moment before fixing his gaze on the once-again-muddied Ithil. "... It's not really a home, but.. there's this old, half-dead tree in the forest that I visit a lot." Usually when he was tired; the tree's roots made a nice shelter, one where it was harder for others to prank him in than it would be for them to prank him in a cave. "What about you?"

“No. I don’t really have a home. I just stay where I can and travel. I did used to have a home it was a nice little den. It was in the side of a hill hidden from view by some rocks. I used to stay there a lot, but well it didn’t feel like home after a time.” She shook her head remembering how empty it felt after her friend had gone. Shaking her head she gave him a smile. “So now I guess if we ever bother to do anything together I’ll have to track you down at that tree. ” Looking out of the make-shift den they were in she sighed. “It’s either that or go hiking in the mountains in a storm which doesn’t seem to sensible to me.” She gave the male a look that while she didn’t say it aloud was clearly one of calling him stupid repeatedly.
“The storm is passing I think I see some light.” She rolled a bit more so she could use her paw to point to the entrance where off in the distance she could see some light trying to peek through the clouds that were now just soaking the earth with a light drizzle. “I think I’m going to go wash off in the lake before the other gladiers come out again.” Rolling back the other way she got to her feet and started for entrance feeling a bit stiff and emotionally worn out by the storm and chaos that had ensued this day.

"Know the feeling," Lightning mumbled, thinking about the place he'd spent a good chunk of his childhood in. He shrugged. "Guess so." He sighed at her look, but at least she didn't say it for the umpteenth time. "That's because neither I nor the person I'm hoping to see there are what normal Gladiers consider sensible."
When Ithil mentioned the storm, he nodded without looking at it and got to his feet. "Yeah... It'll be completely gone in a few minutes." He followed her to the entrance, yawning. "Probably a good idea..." He glanced at the female and then gently pressed his nose to her cheek. "Are... you ok?" When his mind caught up with his impulsive action, he jerked his head back and looked away in his embarrassment. "Y-you were sniffling earlier and I-I w-wasn't s-sure if you'd caught a c-cold or s-s-something," he stammered, each word less audible than the last. After a moment, his embarrassed explanation was nothing more than an incoherent mumble and he gave up, returning to silence as he stopped at the entrance. He stood slightly off to the side, as if waiting for Ithil to pass through first.

Wow Ithil was a bit surprised they really were a lot alike. It was disturbing, and yet nice to know she wasn’t alone in this world. She’d had enough of that already to last a lifetime. Still the male really was an idiot. So if they were alike didn’t that make her one too? Well clearly it did because she stuck around him. “Yeah but normal gladiers aren’t really the kind that are incredible either. Even thought they are a lot more sensible. ” When he pressed his nose to her cheek her body froze and her eyes widened. She stayed that way for a moment while the male was mumbling soothing about her sniffling. She didn’t catch most of it and was to shocked to react even if she had. There was a moment of awkward silence as her mind processed what happened. Jerking herself back to the situation at hand she looked at him and gave him a weak laugh. “Yeah I was crying.” Eh? She hadn’t meant to just admit that like that. Gah! The male was a pain in the tail that just kept throwing her off. “I’ll be fine though.” She just walked out of the make shift shelter and made sure not to look at the male. Her purple blue fur at her face seemed to grow deeper as she blushed unearth it.

She called him incredible again, a happy feeling rising in his chest. Well, she'd inferred it, as well as inferring that he was reckless, but a compliment was still a compliment--even if only implied. He'd take it for what it was worth.
When her eyes widened and her body stiffened, Lightning was afraid she'd yell at him again. He was surprised when she barked a laugh and openly admitted she'd been crying. He was about to inquire further when she said she'd be fine and walked out. 'Did I upset her? Or maybe...' He followed her out, not pressing the subject further. The Gladier kept glancing at her, however, as they walked towards the lake. She looked more... violet than she had before. Was it just the light? 'You're over-thinking things,' he told himself. 'She said she'll be fine, so she'll be fine.' But how soon would that be? Saying that she would be fine... didn't that mean she was still upset by something? 'Ugh... my head hurts. Understanding women is hard.'

Marching along Ithil kept her eyes off the male until she reached the water. It was a long walk in silence which gave Ithil far too much time to think. She kept distracting herself thinking how she would yell at the male if he said something stupid to her right now. Sadly he didn’t give her that open opportunity. She looked out over the water and tried to get her heart to calm down she hated being embarrassed it took her so long to recover. Shaking her head she decided to get rid of all thoughts for a while and took a running hop into the water. It was cold and shocked her system. Gasping she took a lungful of air and dipped her head in the water. Shaking she hoped most of the mud came off before she resurfaced and headed to shore again. Climbing out she shook out on the spot and looked around she noticed a few gladiers where finally starting to come out of the woods a fair distance away. “Oi Pawn of storms if you don’t wanna deal with others then we need to find a different spot.”

Lightning didn't join Ithil in the deeper water. He stuck to the shallow edges of the lake and cleaned himself there. He was shaking the water from his fur when Ithil made her comment. The Gladier was about to take off at his usual lightning speed when he paused to contemplate her phrasing. "We," he parroted. So she was coming with him? He looked away. "... Right." He glanced at the Gladiers coming from the forest and then at Ithil before scanning their surroundings. "... There's a quiet spot over there," he said, starting forward at a pace he wanted to cringe at; a leisurely pace. Still, going slower--even this much slower--than he usually did was better than having Ithil yell at him for running off. And no matter how strong and fast the female was, he wasn't sure she could keep up with him; he hadn't found many who could.
