"Hey," Katriel warned. "I'm not your mistress--I didn't break you out of hell so you could pander to my every wish. I got you out of there because we're two of a kind. Don't get me wrong, as alpha I own your cute little a**, but we're not humans and we don't play their games. We're wolves. Loyalty is in our genetics." He looked a little uncertain so she reached over and ruffled his hair affectionately. "I'll be back soon, I'll promise," she said and left the cab. She tossed the keys to him. "Take good care of my rig."

"Of course Alpha Katriel!" Ray said happily, he was glad that she didn't seem willing to be called mistress. What confused was that she did say that she still owned him so what was the difference? He caught the keys in mid air and swore to her that her 'rig' would be safe no matter what. "Just be safe!" he said as hewent intothe back to start reheating the food (he was going to eat them slolwy while he waited.

Katriel felt bad about her little speech after she left the truck. She wondered if "owned" was a bad word. It seemed provocative. But English wasn't the native language of werewolves--that was howling, growling, and humping. She thought about it as she perused the "babysitter wanted" flyers. She found the perfect one--obviously printed by a woman with money, bratty kids, and maybe an alcohol problem if the bourbon-smelling coffee stain was anything to go by. Katriel jogged to the large house and the desperate mom welcomed her inside in the same breath as she left for a society meeting. The three kids weren't bad--they were half-siblings that never had any discipline. Katriel lined them up and marched them outside in the vast backyard for a high-energy round hide-and-seek. They loved the attention and the exercise. Afterwards, she made a casserole of hotdogs, mac & cheese, and topped with goldfish. After dinner, she and the kids made a pillow and blanket fort and told stories until bath time. Bath time was a quick hose down with the detachable shower-head, and then she literally wrestled them into their pajamas. They were so tired they just fell into bed. Then Katriel cleaned up the house just in time for the mom to come home. The mom was so grateful that she gave Katriel $100. Katriel thanked her and left. She ran back to where she had parked the truck, keeping an eye out for any signs of trouble.

Ray watched as she left waiting for the ping of the microwave, he frowned when he saw her looking at bits of paper. Was that how she found work? He figured that there was something on her mind as she seemed to be deep in thought. When she jogged off to where ever she was going the micro finally finished heating up his food. Picking it up he ate slowly enjoying the taste, the lettuce wasn't as nice but it was still good in his opinion. When he was finished everything he looked around the place to make surethere were no trouble makers. Sadly there was at least two of them and each of them had spotted him! "Hey boy I'll give you $200 if you s**k me" Ray hesitated, this could be his chance to earn money but his alpha hadn't given him permission to do so. What was a guy to do? $200 was a lot of money right? Maybe she'll be happy with the extra? by the time he thought this the guys friend was smirking. Ray had missed them looking him up and down "I'll give $400 for a pecie of your a**!" Ray stared at him, what could he have said beyond a yes? $200 and $400 sounded like a lot of money and who knew how long Katriel would take? there was one thing he noticed about them and that was they were drunk! "Ok but you'll need to give me the money first," he started to say to them "Otherwise you won't get a thing!" both guys nodded and handed him over the money. "follow me" Ray said as he went round to the other side of the 'rig'. He had grabbed a crowbar on his way. Once the guys were round he hit them both on the head knocking them out instantly with no noise and no witnesses. Best bit was their was no cameras nearby (Ray would have heard there low buzz). He got back into the rig and checked the crowbar for blood, all clear. "Where are you Katriel?" he wondered just as he thought he could hear her running towards the 'rig'.

Katriel smelled the blood before she saw it. Ray was in the cab, looking nervous. She ran up to his window. "What happened?" she hissed, looking around for law enforcement or worse, the owners of the blood. She couldn't see it, but she could almost taste it. "Are you ok? Tell me later. Get in the cab--we're leaving!" Safely on the freeway, she turned to him. "Ok, tell me everything. Are you alright?" she demanded.

ScarletFrost Smiling Ray flushed the money he had managed to get from the two drunks before Katriel had made it back "I didn't do anything except help them go to sleep" the $400 and $200 would surely help his alpha with her money worries. "They want me do things the manager used to force me to!" He started to explain why he did what he did "I wasn't wiling to do so but you need the money" he said before thinking that he should make it claerer "They idn't manage to touch me don't worry, I knocked them out before they could and nobody saw me!" he placed the money on the dashboard still unaware of how much he had just got.

"Ray," Katriel sighed. "You just...you don't...it's not..." She didn't know how to explain. The violence didn't bother her--that was par for the course for werewolves. It was the deception. The threat. The idea that he had to do something dangerous for a little money. She glanced at the bills on the dash board; he had come up with a lot more than she had earned. It would mean she wouldn't have to babysit or take under-the-table jobs for a while, but it was also dangerous having that much cash in hand. "Look, this is going to come out sounding horrible, so please don't take it badly. This is the alpha trying to look out for a pack-mate," she started with a disclaimer. "You don't need to fake-whore yourself and beat up the jons to get money. I earned a hundred bucks tonight, and that'll get us another 100 miles west. I don't need anything besides you, safe and sound. Ok?"

Ray frowned when she started to tell him about 'fake whoring himself' he didn't even know the meaning of the word whore! He thought carefully knowing that the safer option would probably have been getting back into the 'rig' and hiding from the drunks, but his alphas money worries was what had driven him to it in the first place "I understand that you want me to be safe" he started "but they came onto me I just took the money and hit them" he continued trying to get her to see that he hadn't started the thing at all. He wanted to ask what a whore was but decided against it "I wouldn't do anything like that behind your back" by that he meant what they were offering which he was reluctant to say. JJ_Thunder_Chaser ((ooc: lol you keep calling him Jay)) ((ooc: Crap! I keep thinking Ray. Why am I typing Jay? >_< I'll go back and change it.)) "I appreciate your motives--and I understand how some guys can be absolute horny assholes. Believe me, I've been there, done that, burned the t-shirt," she replied. "One of the first jobs I got after I lost my pack was a waitress at an underground club. What I didn't know was that 'tip' was code for 'cash for booty calls'. I ended up breaking the arm of a guy who couldn't take 'no' for an answer. I left Canada right after that. But my point is that...tempting fate like that can be dangerous. I can tell you can take care of yourself, but say we had to stay in that area for a few days? They could come looking for you. What if they found you and I couldn't help you? What if they brought backup or semi-automatic weapons? What if someone get's our license plate number and reports it to the cops for a mugging? There are so many variables and so many things that can go horribly, horribly wrong." The truck pulled up to the entrance to Yellowstone, and Katriel paused in her lecture to pay the sleepy park attendant and get a map to their camp site. Inside the park, she continued. "I'm not mad," she clarified. "I'm just worried about you. And I don't want anything to take you away from me. Not the cops, not gang bangers or a random bullet. Fortunately, your efforts made it so I don't have to leave you to find work for a while. So I guess something good came out of it. But we play it safe and legal from here on out, ok?"

Ray growled low in his throat at the thought of other guys trying to lay their paws on Katriel, she was his! He understood why she was worried about him, he hadn't thought of those guys coming after him or having weapons. His healing abilities had been reactivated so most of his old wounds were gone (he was thankful for this) so he could surrive a gunshot. He didn't tell Katriel this though. When they arrived at Yellowstone he watched as his alpha paid a sleepy looking guy and gain a pecie of paper. When he heard that she didn't want anything to take him away he wrapped his arms around her and thought it be best to tell her about his super healing "I can actually heal any wound quite quickly its just the manager would keep giving me new ones so i stopped trying to get rid of them" he said quietly unsure of how shewould take the news "A bullet can't kill me" he looked at her and smiled before adding that he would indeed play it safe and leagl from then onwards.

Katriel hugged Ray with one arm. "Me too, hun," she replied to his confession of healing. "Most werewolves can. Silver bullets are really the danger. But humans have a knack for torturing the perceived invulnerable." She pulled up to their camping spot and put the car in park. "Alright, we're here," she declared. "Now, rules for national parks, number 1: no peeing outside human facilities. Every square foot of Yellowstone is claimed by one pack or another, and while they don't care where humans leave their scent, they will care where WE leave our scent. We're here for refuge, not a turf war. Rule 2: when we hunt, we hike far away from humans, come back close to humans and hunt small game--because the normal wolves don't do that--and we eat at the site of the kill and bring nothing home. We don't want to leave a scent trail. Rule 3: don't make friends or enemies with anyone. I learned this the hard way. If you make friends with the humans, they'll get nosy. If you make friends with the wildlife, they follow you home. We're just here for a short vacation to get away from the city. Ok?"

Ray blinked at her, most werewolfs could do it? This was when he knew that he knew next to nothing about being a real werewolf. Then again he'd been in a store so couldn't have learnt anything. He listened to the rules with his full attention, he didn't want to cause trouble for Katriel if he could help it. "Ok I shall behave and not make friends, or eat large prey or bring it here" he said with a nod, the one thing he did understand was the need to not leave a scent, war was the last thing he wanted.

"Good," Katriel said and hugged him again. "Now, what do you say we take some of your ill-gotten gains and pay a visit to the general store for dinner?" She got out of the cab and snagged his hand when he came up beside her. She liked having someone around. She had been alone for way, way too long.

Ray had been quick to hug his Alpha back and had nodded readily when she asked to go to the store, he would go with her to ends of the earth and back. "What shall we?" he asked highly curious, he only knew burgers and chips and pancakes and nothing so he assumed that Katriel would know of any good foods going around.

In the general store, Katriel handed Ray a hand basket. With a mischievous light in her eyes, she grabbed Twinkies, burritos, jam and syrups, bread, salami, condiments, and more camping mixes (like pancakes and stroganoff) and filled the basket with them. She also grabbed some buffalo jerky--they wouldn't be able to take down one by themselves, but they could have a taste. "Anything you want to try?" she asked. "I have a weakness for gummy worms--but stay away from chocolate. It's not good for us."
