Following Joou Adrin let the night wrap him up and settle his thoughts. It was unsettling to say the least coming back and feeling how he did. Right now though he shoved those thoughts aside and let himself relax for the first in a long time. He was here with Joou. His daughter was alive and well. He didn’t know where Pyre was or even is she was alive but he had done his best to try and find her. Perhaps he would look later went things settled down, but for now he needed to be here with Joou. She was his balm and heart. The sounds of the night gradually picked up in the distance as the small creatures started to awaken and sing.

Joou's gaze drifted up to the night sky as they walked. Stars winked and twinkled at each other. They seemed oblivious to those below them that watched them fondly some nights. A dark shadow began to creep over her and Adrin. They were getting closer to the mountain and the sleeping dens and it's shadow stretched over them as if to claim them. She walked through the little pools and into her den on the other side.

The coolness the shadow of the mountain brought was like a soft chill trying to ease the warmth of the anger and pain Adrin had felt. He welcomed it feeling at peace and home here with Joou. He stopped at one of the shallower pools near the entrance to Joou’s den. Gently he leaned down and blew across its surface making ripples. Sitting he watched the star’s reflection in the disturbed pool. It was interesting to him that this disturbance would go on but he knew it could never last forever.

Joou crossed the pool without much thought. She was mentally exhausted from the days event and just wanted to go to bed. She made her way into her den and paused to look back at Adrin. "You can sleep in here tonight if you want"

Nodding he followed her into the den. He was tired out from the day and wanted nothing more than to curl up next to Joou and sleep soundly for the first time in a long time. He took a breath. “If I wake up during the night don’t mind. I’ve had trouble sleeping since I lost Pyre.” He looked down.

Joou wandered over to the rock platform that she had in the cave. On top of it was things like hay and bits of blankets from humans to make a softer bedding. She walked round in circles before finally laying down in a curled up ball. She went to say something to try and comfort him but seemed to find her self without a voice so instead she nodded her head sadly.

Joou’s silence was as cold as the stone floor of the cave. He couldn’t lay next to her as much as he wanted to with this pain he had brought to her heart. Maybe someday he could again, but not right now. It was all to fresh and the day had been far too long. He lay down and curled up tightly shutting his eyes and focused on his breathing. IN and OUT. He had to say it to himself while he tried to sort out the day. It was almost meditative and it was the only thing that let him fall into his troubled sleep where he would dream of looking for his daughter yet again.
(He thinks Joou is still angry at him so he self exiled to the floor.... OTL she has him whipped even after being gone for so long.)

Joou noticed that Adrin had laid down a good distance off from her. The silence was thick again. So much tension, so many things unspoken, this lonely feeling that clawed at her insides. Did he not want to be by her? She could tell that he wasn't asleep. She knew when he was. She let out a few small whimpers at him and wondered if she would get a response.

As soon as Joou let out her first whimper Adrin’s ears went straight up and his eyes shot open. At her second he stood up and moved over to her. “Joou are you alright?” His voice was soft and low but the concern in it was evident. She wasn’t asleep but didn’t want to disturb her if she were close to finding a restful state of mind. The whimpers made him wonder otherwise though.

Joou whimpered at him again till he was close enough to her where she could rub her head against the soft fur of his chest. She hadn't quite forgive him nope not by a long shot but she needed comfort needed her once mate to be by her side that night and hold her and keep her warm letting her know that she wasn't completely alone.

Oh Joou would be the death of him. He was sure she was going to bite him and make him suffer later but for now he just curled up around her as much as she was willing to let him. He thought she might be partly asleep and there would be some suffering in the morning but if he could keep nightmares at bay for her then it would be worth it. He didn’t know if he would have any nightmare’s himself but he hoped being near Joou would help with the ones if there were any.

Joou curled closer to him and wrapped her tail around his. She was so small against his side that it seemed unreal. She didn't know what tomorrow would bring and though it frightened her, she was at peace in that moment. Her breathing slowed as she dipped further into sleep.

Watching her drift off he wondered how on earth she had changed so much. Still he supposed he wasn’t much to look at himself compared to what he was. He watched his mate breathe in and out for a time relaxing more and more simply from watching her until he too drifted off into slumber.

Morning came to pass. Outside of Joou's den it started to become light. Birds were waking up and starting to chirp here and there. She yawned and stretched as she began to wake. She glanced over to her side and found Adrian asleep by her but she could tell her he hadn't slept well and decided not to disturb him. So she glanced about before slowly making her way to the entrance of her cave. She began to drink the little pool of water that gathers every morning from the dew.

The twittering of birds was ignorable for only so long. Eventually the noise of all the rest of the world being up woke Adrian up as well. It was the cold around him he noticed first. Joou had been warm and pleasant to be near her absence was knife to his heart. He got up and looked around quickly not awake yet. Stumbling out he nearly ran into her. As disoriented as he was he didn’t say anything but just basked in the sight of her. Seeing her there and real helped him calm down and feel more at ease.
