As someone began to speak to him as if they knew him he merely growled softly. "Don't speak to me as if we old acquaintances ever again." He snapped harshly at the shinigami honestly not caring who he was. As he felt the head captain's presence behind him his hands tightened into fists. "You're a damned fool if that's all you think that I desire." He spoke to his newly appointed captain. "Central Forty Six is even more foolish for making me your babysitter." Kokai said coldly.

Kenshin's smile disappeared immediately as he heard Kokai's tone of voice when he addressed Kenshin. "Excuse me?" Pausing, Kenshin wasn't pleased in the slightest to hear this man's insubordination. "I'd watch my tone if I were you Lieutenant Kyuketsu. You are by no means my babysitter and more importantly, you do not have authority over me mister."

Shadow did not flinch at the quick remark Lt. Kyuketsu made. With a calm but cold tone he responded "I merely asked for a status update of resent events. Dont confuse my work ethnic as 'being an old acquaintance', Lt. Kyuketsu." At that moment head captain Hiroshi appeared. Shadow like this man more then most not because of his personalty, but his authority on getting the end result by any means. Shadow slightly bowed his head "head captain Hiroshi, you made mention of the battle field. Has a threat appered scene my leave? And if so, is there any action you would like me to take" Shadow's aura of reitsu seemed to flare lightly. The though of returning to a battle field made his heart race and filled him with a scene of excitement

Kokai chuckled softly as he heard what the head captain had to say. "Do you honestly think that I care? You, Central Forty Six, and the rest of the shinigami all believe me to be your inferior. All believe that I'm to just die the death of a dog. That's why you all gave me this job as a baby sitter. So that I would be 'safe'. Because no one is stupid enough to target the 'strongest' shinigami in the soul society." He said as the word came off with another different tone. "But I'll say this right now. I'm far stronger than anyone in this damned place and would gladly show it in the time of battle. As I have dozens of times before." He said as he sighed softly. Something began to take over his thoughts and he looked further down the cliff seeing what was right below him. He began to wonder where exactly 'they' were. If they were safe. If he would ever be able to see them again. "Stop calling me Lieutenant." He growled to both of the shinigami behind him. "I am Kokai not Lieutenant." He spoke as he listened to the rest of what the other shinigami had to say. His thoughts returned to 'them' again bringing emotion to his reiatsu. Unbeknownst to him crystals began to form at his feet and slowly began to spread out from the tip of the sokyoku hill.

We are nothing...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gust of wind, light steps on the horizon.

The captain of the 13th division had made his appearance on the Sokyoku Hill, having headed there after his brief stint inside the Squad 4 barracks. Those Shinigami were certainly good healers, he’d commended them for their excellent efforts once he had felt the pain in his body leave. They’d managed to heal nearly every wound on his body, the bruises and slashes and the nerve pain caused by Nocella’s vicious zanpakuto. The wound on his chest, though not painful anymore due to the healing kido used on it, had persisted and would take longer to heal. He opted for them to stitch the raw wound up and to cover it in bandages so that he could get back to the battlefield as soon as possible. Once they had finished, he had gone past his own office in order to retrieve another haori and to change into an undamaged kosode. He would also replace his makeshift blindfold with one of his natural backups that he kept just in case. Upon being ready to return to battle, he would make his way to the hill. But first, he did something he felt was important. He visited the archives to learn more of his past opponent, and it was what he learned there that caused him to move towards the Hill with such intensity. He had an inquiry, and maybe the Head Captain knew the answer.

So when he had appeared on the Hill, he had moved directly to where he felt Kenshin was. He practically ignored the other two Shinigami, not on purpose but more so he was completely focused on Kenshin. Though he did offhandedly pick up that they were the lieutenants of Squads 1 and 12, they were relatively unimportant while he still had the question floating around in his head. He would wait for a second for the insubordinate lieutenant to finish speaking, then almost purposefully interrupt with a reasoning he felt was far more important. “Kenshin.” He spoke, saying the captain’s name with a monotonous, almost declarative tone. Something to draw the captain’s attention to his person instead of the arrogant lieutenant. “Why did the Central 46 sentence Nocella Kurenai to be executed for having Hollow Spiritual pressure?” He would wait for a few seconds to let it set in, that his past opponent was a vizard. He’d learned that in the archives, because she certainly didn’t don her mask in battle with him. “Why execute her, if we have a Vizard as one of your captains?” He had been offhandedly referring to Raiku Sato, the 10th squad captain. He had certainly felt the vizard’s reiatsu while he battled Zetsubo. It was almost impossible to ignore. “Why the hypocrisy in the rulings? Maybe her anger’s justified…” He would let that last part simmer in the air, though it didn’t mean that he was a turncoat. He knew exactly where his loyalties and alliance was; else he would assassinate the man in front of him without too much thought. He was a captain of the Gotei 13, loyal to the Seireitei and his Head Captain. Despite his now wavering faith in the Soul Society, he wasn’t a man of betrayal, and wouldn’t be changing sides anytime soon, or ever.

Shadow chuckled a little bit "The strongest? i do beleave that honor falls of the head captain, though power and skill alone do not decide that. And just a heads up 'Kokai' just because you the strongest dose not mean you will not fall." it bothered him,the way the Lt. of squad 1 acted. It was alot like how he himself use to act. Yet there is no place in this world for the arrogant, and no matter how great you are, everyone can and will ultimately fall. That,in his mind, was what it meant to be a shinigami. Shadow bowed as captain mishima appeared, but then his mood went sour as the captain spoke of an execution of a solder with hollow powers. He himself was made to mimic arrancar/vizard in form and power so this concerned him. " And here i thought we were past these witch hunts. Is 46 judgments really all that reliable? and why do i get the feeling this partakes to the war i have yet to be informed about." His aura of reitsu still seemed to flicker, probably due to the uncertainty, the dread in the air, and the other Lt.'s unruly behavior.

~ Leadership isn't about speeches or being liked...

Kenshin wasn't amused in the slightest by Kokai's insubordination, as he was considering taking him off the mission. However, just as he was about to address his lieutenant, he was interrupted by yet another person. "The hell is it now?" Turning around, he noticed that it was the voice of the Captain of the 13th Division, Koetsu Mishima. He raised his eyebrow after hearing the man's tone and more importantly, what he had to say.

Kenshin merely sighed after hearing this man speak, as he hated these sorts of inquiries. "I wish I could fully answer that question for you, but I wasn't around in the Gotei 13 when she was sentenced to execution. If my predecessor were still around, perhaps he could have given you a proper answer, but I sadly cannot give you an answer." He then paused halfway, as he walked over to the man and placed his hand on his shoulder, as he stood next to him, as he needed the man to understand the full situation of things.

"More importantly, Central 46 refuses to tell me why she was sentenced to death. Furthermore, when I asked why Captain Saito was allowed into the ranks of the Gotei 13 even though he was a visored, they refused to give me any information on his case. I would ask him why he's allowed in the Gotei 13 since he's a visored and all, but this has been nothing but a giant mystery for me sadly." Sighing, Kenshin then awaited to hear this man's response to what he had to say.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The blind shinigami couldn’t say he didn’t expect the answer that Kenshin gave despite his eagerness to ask the Head Captain his inquiry. His words had made Koetsu realize that Kenshin was new, relatively speaking, like he himself was in the grand scheme of things. His annoyed curiosity had got the better of him, not having realized that the date of her execution had been set before Captain Hiroshi had been incepted as the leader of the Gotei. He couldn’t get an answer from this man, so he wouldn’t bother continuing to speak of the subject. He’d make a personal visit to the Central 46 headquarters soon, and personally demand answers. The man’s hand on his shoulder reassured him that he wasn’t the source of the problem. No, no, the hypocrisy came from the Central 46, and he would have words and perhaps violence for them had they not explained themselves truthfully.

Koetsu would nod at the man before him before becoming silent. The 12th squad lieutenant had spoken of being uninformed of the war that befell the Seireitei, and Koetsu had taken it upon himself to hand a scroll of information, detailing the most recent invasion by the masked individuals, to Shadow for his benefit. Had his captain been present, he or she would scold him for not being up to date. It was Koetsu’s job as the Seireitei defense specialist to be the first to respond to threats, so naturally he had to compile information documents about any occurrences as well. Such was the few annoyances of being a captain. He would let the lieutenant look over the information while he resumed speaking to Kenshin, this time on a different subject.

“You were holding back, back there." He had been referring to the confrontations that occurred only a few hours ago, so he knew that Kenshin knew what he was speaking of. “I didn’t feel the release of even your Shikai. You were holding back, Head Captain.” He respected the man, but he also knew when things needed to be said. Conversely, Koetsu never spoke this much at any given moment. Kenshin should have been proud to have elicited so many words in such a short time from Koetsu, as the blind shinigami did not find talking to be constant or consistent action. “Raiku, and his lieutenant. They could have both died, had Zetsubo not been toying with the captain. He and the Arrancar could have combined their abilities and crushed the two of them, and overwhelmed me alongside my own opponent.” He wasn’t trying to incite guilt in his Head Captain; he was just making sure that he was aware of his disproval of his lax way of fighting earlier. “You should’ve just killed them and gotten it over with instead of stalling; now we have to deal with them for longer and I feel that they grow in numbers while we do not.” Of course, he was now referring to the statistics of the battle earlier. Not counting the fodder soldiers, there were at least five high ranked enemies. While only three captains and a lieutenant had shown up on their own side. Where were the other captains? “There were at least 10 other captains that should have responded to my bakudo. Their absences are unacceptable during this time of crisis. Especially when the Arrancar is bound to bring his Espada into the mix. We’re simply outnumbered right now, Head Captain, and I worry that Soul Society will fall if things don’t change.” Koetsu sighed as well, wishing for there to be no invaders at all. Everything was tiring, to say in the least. His loyalty was being tried, he could see. But he wouldn’t waver and abandon his Head Captain, it just wasn’t a thought to be had. He was one of the few Shinigami who didn't scrutinize Kenshin for not being the previous Head Captain, partially because he didn't know the previous Head Captain, but also because it didn't matter to him. He was loyal to Kenshin no matter what.

~ Leadership isn't about speeches or being liked...

Seeing that the blind shinigami had no objections to what he had to say, Kenshin merely stood where he was, as he noticed that the man started to change the focus of his conversation towards his performance on the battlefield earlier. He sighed as he listened to what he had to say. Granted, the man made his valid points, but he wasn't looking at things from a long term point of view. Once he was finished, Kenshin sighed as he addressed the man's concerns.

"Indeed I was holding back against the interlopers. Indeed I didn't even bother releasing my zanpakuto during the event. I didn't bother with killing those intruders for one simple reason. Zetsubo had no intention to kill them from the very start and neither did that pathetic excuse of an arrancar either. Furthermore, killing those two wouldn't have solved much. Sure their organization would have fallen apart for a brief period of time, but who's to say that someone else wouldn't simply take the helm of their operation."

Kenshin's tone was rather calm, but it was still nevertheless firm. He needed his fellow captains to understand exactly his actions before they proceeded to leave to end this mess. "Besides, right now you're only thinking of the short term, and not long term. While Zetsubo and Aero were blinded by their sheer arrogance, they failed to take complete notice at the fact that I planted a tracking spell on Zetsubo as he left. We know where he's situated and more importantly, we know where his little organization is located at. We will end this once and for all..."

Shadow looked over the information on the scroll given to him. after reading thur it it gave a vary displeased look "i have much to speak of with my captain and my squad seeing as no one called me wile i was on leave about this war." he then looks at the part about the squad 12 break in as his voice now had a more agitated tone. "If my sisters containment vessel was damaged in any way, this mask army will have a date with konrunryu...." he motions to his zanpakuto on his back ".... and she dose not play nice." Shadow took a moment to calm himself as he listened to the captains talk. " I have to agree with captain Mishima, we are short handed and actions are not taking place at the speed we need them to. the breakdown of communication has,and is, showing more problems then we can deal with." Shadow took a few seconds to scan the area, his eyes had a unflinching and sharp gaze like he was using a laser. " and with us down a few captains, we need a tighter chain of command and communication. At least that's my observation of the situation" Then the head captain made mention of the tracking spell, and this got shadow attention "A vary cunning move with the tracking spell. one must think of both the current trun and the next 50 in order to win. With this we should be ready for our next move then. I should head to the labs and make all equipment that the away team and the home team will need......unless you have orders for me, head captain Hiroshi, that will take priority" Shadow waited for a response

Koetsu regarded his Head Captain with silence. He had good points, it seemed. But the Head Captain simply wasn’t being realistic about his proposed plan. Why were they about to charge into the enemy base so soon? They were severely lacking in manpower, and for all they knew, they could be walking right into a trap. He ‘looked’ outwards towards the Cliffside, worried that the Shinigami would not win this battle. The odds were too stacked against them. His Head Captain was too relaxed about the situation the Seireitei had been in, not to mention overconfident and unworried. He wasn’t able to do anything about the missing captains, but he certainly could push Kenshin out of his comfort zone and get the captain to respond to Koetsu’s concerns with more than just a calm tone. He would do that in fact, to get the Head Captain to stop being so lax about things. He was loyal to Kenshin, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t do what he thought was necessary for the Seireitei to end up victorious throughout this dilemma.

He would unsheathe his zanpakutou, turning around to face Kenshin in a two handed Kendo stance. No more words, now was the time for action, and he’d act in ‘mutiny’ until his Head Captain changed his attitude about the situation they were in. He’d approached Kenshin rather quickly, swinging his blade horizontally at the man’s midsection without a pause in speed. His attack was deliberate, fast enough to interrupt any kido but slow enough so that the Head Captain could unsheathe his blade to block the attack. He’d follow with a hado, the eleventh one in the series, Tsuzuri Raiden. His left foot stomped the ground in front of him, sending an electric current through the ground, aiming to electrocute Kenshin. However, he knew that the attack would be easily dodged by jumping upwards, and so he fired a five-fingered blast of the fourth hado, Byakurai, aiming to hit the Head Captain where he would dodge the electricity on the ground.

He would remain silent, a complete look of stoic seriousness on his face. Kenshin Hiroshi was too comfortable, and Koetsu would have none of that.

As he heard a zanpakuto unsheathe he smiled ever so demonically as this was now his territory. His body began to tremble as he was overcome with excitement for battle once more. Who knew baby sitting would be so entertaining? As he listened for the right moment he used every ounce of speed and appeared right in front of the captain. Drawing his zanpakuto out of his sheath but not completely he blocked the captain's blade. A demonic smile could be seen on his face as his reiatsu was slowly appearing as a lit flame around him. "You... ********... up." He said as his hair continued to hide his eyes.

The electricity began to flow through the ground as Kokai was now blood thirsty. Kokai shoved the captain back and shoved his nodachi into the ground. The electricity of the technique traveled up his blade and remained with his blade. As for the Byakurai technique that the captain shot when he dodged backwards Kokai had to deal with that as well. This captain was not a bright one. He didn't care why he was attacking the head captain. He didn't care why he chose to betray the soul society. He didn't even care about who he was. All he cared about at this point was adding to his 'collection'.

Standing firmly in front of the head captain he opened his palm facing to the captain. Ice erupted from his palm as this was a technique he learned from an old acquaintance of his during a time of war. A large wave of ice rushed to the captain in an attempt to consume him while devouring the lower ranking hado technique as well. Knowing the captain would dodge this technique he drew his nodachi from the ground and readied himself for this battle. Oh the fun he was going to have with this.

We are nothing...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So the insubordinate lapdog had jumped to his Captain’s defense. Koetsu couldn’t argue. That was his job as the first squad’s lieutenant, to protect his captain at all costs. That was an admirable role to hold, but Koetsu couldn’t help but wonder. Where was the lieutenant during the time of crisis, when they were being invaded a few hours ago? Where was his sense of ‘projecting the head captain’ duty when the Arrancar Leader had attacked him? The blind shinigami couldn’t help but notice the eschewed priorities involved in this lieutenant’s decisions, but he chose not to speak on it. Right now he had needed to be focused on thinking on the best course of action. Right after he would feel out the insubordinate’s course of action. He’d blocked his non-lethal strike with ease, something unsurprising to Koetsu as the slash had lacked the killing intent and power of one meant for the enemy. Similarly, he circumvented the Captain’s weak Hado, and countered his Byakurai with his own Kido-like attack. The air chilled as the attack flew towards him, telling him that it was Hyoga Seiran, or something extremely similar. He could just as easily dodge with a high jump, or use Shunpo instead, but where was the flair in that? Instead he would go for the course of action that looked far more impressive. As he felt the wave move closer towards him, he swung his zanpakutou horizontally once more, this time the arc of the swing pointing towards the end of the hill and the impasse below. His zanpakutou would glow white briefly, as an arc of silver reiatsu flew out of his blade, colliding with the ice wave and forcibly changing its path off of Koetsu, where it would eventually disperse away. He preyed on the hado's lack of incantation and Kokai's lack of Kido specialization, and it would falter briefly against his captain-level spiritual pressure, just enough to slightly change its course. He would remain silent as he reviewed his action. The usage of his own Reiatsu to push the wave in another direction, eliminated the need to move his legs, saved him the trouble of having to readjust after dodging said attack, looked pretty cool, and would show the brash lieutenant that he was getting in over his head. Koetsu would much rather the lieutenant stand back and let his leader handle this ‘dispute’ so that he wouldn’t have to hurt the boy. Something told him though, that that wouldn’t happen as long as Kokai was standing, and he’d have to do something about that.

He could activate his Shikai, easily incapacitate the lieutenant and leave him a bloodied mess on the ground. That was advised against, seeing as how they needed every Shinigami they could get for this ‘invasion’, and removing one’s capability to do battle would be counter-intuitive to his concerns. He could simply engage in Kido-driven Zanjustu with Kokai, which had been a better sounding option. He needed to get the boy out of the way so that he could knock some sense into Kenshin. He’d sigh, standing for a few seconds with his blade leaning towards the ground, giving Kokai a chance to realize that he was out of his league. There were reasons why he had been a captain and the man defending his captain had only been a lieutenant. Hopefully he’d realize that in the meantime.

No flair this time, just strategy. The lieutenant would block each attack made at Kenshin, as he had the previous three. Koetsu was counting on that. He’d used Shunpo to appear at Kenshin’s flank, and aimed his left palm at the captain. Yellow, fire-like energy flew out quickly, Okasen it was called. He knew that lieutenant would move to block his Kido again, so he had used shunpo to move to point blank range, where Kokai would have his guard up to block Koetsu’s Hado. Silently, he gave two downward slashes aimed at Kokai’s (or Kenshin, whoever’s closer to him) head, expecting him to block them without a problem. For Kokai, it wouldn’t be a problem, but his head captain would still be hit by the edge of the blade due to the two inch height difference between Kokai and Kenshin, and the four inch height difference between Kokai and Koetsu himself, not to mention how close Kokai and Kenshin would be to each other in order for the lieutenant to protect him. He would follow up with four stabs, aimed randomly at different parts of Kokai’s midsection; each of them empowered by the first Hado, in order to increase the speed and power of the attacks. He would hope that the lieutenant would understand that he would have to block the stabs instead of dodging, lest his Head Captain be hit by his attacks instead, and that his Sho-empowered stabs weren’t to be trifled with. His left hand would leave his zanpakutou after his last stab, in order to remain stationary and prepared for the lieutenant’s response. He’d much preferred his Kido-Zanjutsu than rendering the boy deaf and inert due to his zanpakutou.

As Shadow waited for the head captain to respond, the captain of the 13 squad made an attack followed by kido, causing shadow to instinctively jump back. Then the hot headed Lt. Kyuketsu interspersed the attack. Shadow could sence no malice from the captains actions, which to him showed that the captain was equally if not more so displeased with the actions that had taken place. The frist squad Lt. however radiated with an aura of aggression. Shadow saw this not as a underling defending his captain, but using it as a reason to draw his sword.'This is most unbecoming of us, and it shows why the situation has gotten as bad as it did' he thought to himself. The skill of both of them was something to be admired though. Any one could see that the combatants skill was honed long before joining the 13 courts. But beyond this the actions of the two were near pointless seeing as the head captain saw no need to stop them or move out of the way. Still if this got out hand someone will have to intervene. Shadow carefully put his hand on his zanpakutou and slid his one foot back half a step, ready to act if and only if it was necessary. until then his eyes remained fixed on the two fighters

~ Leadership isn't about speeches or being liked...

Kenshin sighed as he noticed Koetsu draw his blade against him. Sighing, Kenshin merely touched the zanpakuto and gently pushed it away from him. Although the man was blind, Kenshin stared at him with a cold and serious expression his face, as he was growing tired of this insubordination from just about all the Captains of the Gotei 13. "Stop this."

Sighing, Kenshin merely stood there and started at him, as he stopped the man before he could even use his kido spell. "You really think that at a time like this, your best line of action would be to attack your very superior? Save this crap for the end of this war. Right now we all have bigger fish to catch..."
