"... Quarantine?? ..." Faustus murmured, his eyes fluttering open in mild shock. What could they possibly be in quarantine for?? ... Then again, the longer he thought about it, the more the boil realized he still felt strange. The gloomy void in the pit of his stomach was still there, the lonely ripple along his spine. ... Was this what they were being quarantined for?? ... " ... I don't like this ... I'm glad, we're home though ..."

The demon smiled softly, eyelids blinking sleepily as Amarus mentioned her warm bed and pets. His mind fell back to his warm, soft bed and pets, how much he missed them right now. Even though his stomach knotted at the thought of leaving his new friends behind ... "That sounds nice ... Heh, I think Ember would like him ... she's a firelands, dragonkit ... and very precious to me ..." His voice wavered in and out with the threat of sleep overtaking him.

Faussi tightened his arms a bit around Amarus when he felt her grip against him increase. His mind too clouded by sleep, he only nodded in answer to her statement, nestling his cheek against her shoulder as he drifted tiredly off into a deep sleep.

Face your demons
I know I'm a bit out of order, but I wanted to make sure he got to reply to Amarus before the final event XD ... Also, they are too cuuute >w<

Lacie didn't know where she was. Perhaps.. Amityville. It seemed familiar enough. She held neither gratitude nor a sense of superiority that the phoenix had somehow managed to escape to the hunter's portal. All that remained was exhaustion, regrets, and sadness.

The bogeymen would have no issues rounding up the little reaper. Unfamiliar, startling words floated in and out of her consciousness. The bogeymen's voices, Medea's words, the effects of insanity, and the other student's tormented cries about the statue.. Lacie heard all of it.

Perhaps, she wanted to react. But when she tried, she couldn't even form the words. Her eyelids closed, Lacie propped herself up against a corner, already falling asleep.

Pushed through the portal along with everyone else, Aksaja stumbled as they walked, bumping into the others, now and again hitting one of the trees - branches tangling in his hair. The voices still spoke to him, whispering of home and memories and other things, but they were getting harder to understand now. Harder to care . . . . where . . . ?

Where were they? What was . . . going on? He caught a flash of something, turned to look but then it was gone. Had that been . . . Riley? What? Who?

Confused, the lightning dragon recognized the gym up ahead, but it didn't really make any sense, not until he tried to push his way back through the crowds, to go back and see if that was Riley or not. Then a Boogeyman pushed him back, muttering something about quarantine . . . and he half-stumbled backwards, ending up on the ground somehow. He didn't understand. Didn't . . . understand . . .

And everything went black.

Nothing made any sense anymore.

The confusion...the terror...the fighting. All of it swirled through Rafael's mind, and he considered it with a detached consciousness. It was too big for him to consider. He couldn't put words to the feelings that swelled inside.

Except for one, maybe -- shame.

With so much death and terror surrounding him, the rat had allowed his survival instincts to trump his honor. He had spent so much time hiding...quivering...and now, somehow, they had survived, and they were back, and it was certainly due to no help of his.

This whole experiment had been a failure.

Normally, being at the Amityville gymnasium would have been a thrilling adventure, but the whole thing barely registered. Rafe was too deep in thought...and too exhausted...to pay much attention.

Somewhere, in the back of his mind, in amidst all the chaos and confusion and shame and doubt, another thought had occurred to him.

Humans. Hunters. Killing any creature that got in their path.

...Did the colony know about this?

As he curled into a miserable, sleepy ball, a half-formed thought occurred to him: he needed to tell them...to warn them....protect them....

But how?

.....He would need to learn.

Ceil scrambled and pushed at the Boogeymen pushing her. She was lost, confused, and angry. If it weren't for the masses pushing her forward, would she have moved at all?

As she was pushed into the gymnasium she began to feel very tired. Her ribs ached, her feet ached, everything was a warm ache. Not much was registering to her. She heard "quarantine" and "thank you", but that was all.

She sank down onto the floor as a disheveled mess. Memories swirled through her head. Intricate carvings, floating pavilions, a million lotuses, and living paintings. Then came the destruction and the swirling grey with the great phoenix. Was it all real? Was any of it real? In her left hand she felt her scroll painting- the only vestige of that time and place. With a deep sigh she closed her eyes and soon was unconscious.

Ulmuka, still in owl form, was exhausted. It was like the anger had sapped the life from him. The strix didn't know the meaning behind the quarantine. He wanted to check on his friends but it was crowded by the portal. The further he moved away the more tired he got until he found something, anything, and perched on it.

He was asleep in minutes.

Quarantine...

It's what the Boogeyman called it, but Sepheran was too tired to really object anyway. What was the point he was powerless, they were all powerless. What was real, what was not, the line between the two seemed blurry. Was all this just another bad nightmare? When he woke up would everything be like it was before?

Maybe...just maybe. He hoped it would but in the back of his mind he knew he was foolish for wishing so. The humans would hunt everyone down, they will destroy everything he loves just because they don't understand nor want to. Monsters...to Sepheran it was the hunters who were the monsters they feared so much.

The weeks started out with such promise, with such amazement and now it was all gone. His feelings...his thoughts, they were all starting to drift from him. He was tired, much to tired to do anything. Every passing moment his eyes began to grow heavy until finally he entered the blackness of sleep. He would have to figure out what happens next when he finally awoke again.

As they arrived back and faced the bogeymen, Israfel wore an expression of sadness. he hadn't be able to help Riley, not help Shehk or Sammy and- Now they were to be trapped until a further date. The idea of being trapped bothered him, but when he heard the term they used he understood. It was safe this way, better as well. The lives a of the few did not matter as much as the lives as all of them right? Part of him said yes, the other part of him said no. In any event.

He was alone again.

As they took Riley away, he felt a certain emptiness. He'd never gotten to speak with her. Not his mindless blathering conversations, but a true conversation. He regret that. What what wrenched his heart was Malodore. Pleading, begging to stay with her. It hurt him. Malodore didn't deserve to suffer like that. He didn't do anything to warrant his love ripped from him, denied. Then- he stiffened, Malodore cut down to send him away while they took care of Riley. He could nothing. He could only move on.

Then the siren saw the one he'd been worried about. He'd ignored part of it, tried to help those he saw- but "Lucien." The boil flew to the other, blessing the use of his wings once more. He was asleep, face peaceful and calm. Tired, he pulled the air spirit into his arms, cooing softly. Holding Lucien tight Israfel allowed himself to close his eyes. To dream without dreams.

Kemnebi looked around, not sure where she had gotten to. The voices in her head made it hard to concentrate on anything at the moment. She looked around, seeing a broken statue and heard the word 'quarentine', though she couldn't quite catch the meaning of the word.

The ghoul simply followed the group of students around her. She was too tired to object, too confused to make any real headway in escape...if the thought had even crossed her mind. As her mind cleared, she noticed she was back in the gymnasium...but she didn't care, she was far too listless.

Maybe if she slept. Maybe.... Kemnebi plodded to a corner of the room and collapsed into a sitting position. Curling her tail around herself in a bit of comfort, Kemnebi closed her eyes and let sleep take her.

Between them Riley had been heavy, but moveable. Her only thoughts as she lifted the stone piece that was once her friend was one thought. "Home... home... hoooome." She muttered as she carried the solid stone between her and Shehk. The portal was closer, things where going to better soon they would be home home would be good home would be...

Grey? The woods where squirming burning, and turning grey all around her, as pale stone as Riley was. For a moment she went to question it before the voices told her to be silent.

Quarentine they shouted as hands reached out to rip her away from Riley.

"NO LET ME GO!" The world snapped back, purple tinted as it once was, dim yet lit just enough for her eyes to see clearly as the boogiemen moved about Riley, Shehk was near by, she was saying the same thing, she needed to be with Riley, "Don't don't take her don't make us leave her." Boned fingers reached out towards the statue, a sudden shift of movement grey and white beside her, a boogiemen of stone shoving her back again wit the butt of his weapon.

"Give her back give her back." She muttered helplessly as she stood up to move forward taking the weapons blunt strike again reeling back as she noticed Arel. He looked so tiny, his shadow was big though, big and grey. Madea was beside him, but she was hardly the focus, the boogiemen where blocking her view of them, of Riley. She went to follow them again before being shoved once more, the world spinning.

She was in the gym? Had she blacked out? Her eyes flickered dimly confused and lost, the boogiemen glanced at her, head cocked to the side. He pushed her again, why the pushing? She wanted her friend, she wanted home, home was with them not a room or a place. They where taking a part away.

They where going to take Riley away just like Red the voices whispered just before the world went silent and black.

Cymbeline wandered the perimeter of the quarantine before joining her siblings. That had become her way, the endless moving, pacing, even the allure of their red throne could only hold her attention briefly before she resumed wandering around their lair. Maybe it was to soothe their voices... The whispers and cries that lurked in the back of her mind, were they drowned out by the motion of her muscles? Distracted by the world around her?

She took Pesty's hand, then Aisa's, forming a circle. The voices howled, jeering and taunting, they cried sorrowful and screamed of fear. Where was the last, they asked. Where was the last, were they broken? Had they finally been broken, not on the island of whispers and misty dreams, but in their own home? Had she become one with the Insanity, a face amongst a face of millions, her memories shed like feathers?

The Heir of Famine didn't whisper back, she could drown out the voices with their own weight of silence, wrap them in the soundless blanket, let their words sink into her very soul. Home.

Cymbeline heard those whispers, this time in a voice that was strong to her mind. Home. Yes, that sounded good. They would all find home, all of them, they could create it with their own hands out of dust and mud and the winds that once blew across a desert landscape.

'No'

Her voice whispered back as everything else faded to white. White, watered out remains of a figure perhaps, louder and stronger than even the Heir standing herself. It moved, slowly, deliberately, the only constant in the distorted white.

'No, you failed us,' It hissed, 'We will never find home now and it is all your fault. Your fault, you, you YOU. You did this to us, you did this to your entire clan, it is YOUR fault.'

The words continued to echo. Her fault. Her fault. It was Cymbeline's fault for not being strong enough, it was her fault for not finding their HOME. It was her fault everything was too noisy, that her skin continued to churn and crawl, that her hair sizzled and burned in her scalp, that every single fiber of her Fear was impure and tainted.

She should just break apart, break apart into a thousand tiny pieces.

Cymbeline cackled.

YES.

YES! She laughed back at the blinding shape, laughing into the pure, cold light. We failed each other, mind of mine, we failed! We lost! Everything and all and HOME most importantly!

The voice grew insistent in her mind, louder than it had ever been, loud and painful and threatening to break out of her body so it would speak their failure throughout Halloween, this home that was not home! And Cymbeline welcomed it, baring her psyche to it's painful abuse. She howled and laughed and cried tears of agony and delight, because the hurtful circle of Insanity was merely another game of Ring Around the Rosy.

Except she wasn't the one who would fall down! She would go on and find HOME whether the Insanity wanted her to or not, and whatever home she found, IT WOULD BE DAMN HAPPY WITH IT.

If not... Well then, she'd still be the one laughing.

Perhaps the Heir was laughing still as the blinding light wrapped white, white hands around her shoulders, as fingers turned into claws and tore into her very skin, ripping it apart piece by piece. There was no blood, no Fear, nothing, after all, Cymbeline was simply nothing. She was emptiness.

She could feel every single tear, the pain as her flesh parted, as her bones crackled and peeled in layers into the ground nothing compared to the howl in her mind that she had not fallen apart enough not enough not enough not enough.

Piece by piece she continued to break until at last-

- She shattered entirely.

And someone else stepped out of the white, still laughing.

- Congratulations, Cymbeline is now a STAGE 4 character! She has a base HP of 120/120 and can roll 2d12 - 6 as her new modifier!
- While she looks normal for the most part, it seems the Insanity has quite a hold on her, doesn't it?

The white void - as he had embraced it, it had also embraced dear sweet Cymbeline. Her crazed laughter was like music to his ears, really, as the heir leaned in to kiss her on the cheek.

"Now, doesn't that simply feel so much better?" he asked knowingly. Yes, it really did have a way of feeling all levels of better and now as Cymbeline had greeted him on the other side, it was his turn to greet her into her dawn into the other side of the beautiful white abyss. That was simply how it was meant to be for him, after all.
