Argos would catch Nolan's eye. The Pokemon gave him a look saying tell my trainer and I will decapitate you the moment you're alone. And then he went back to sitting next to Tsuki. The normal type would yawn, using the reptile as a form of shade. He'd have tried to go on the water type, being cold blooded. But Tsuki liked living.

Thee Darumakas ran at Chael, all equally mad. They must be out for revenge. Chael would let Fear challenge them back as Epsilon joined in. The three all shot Incinerates before Epsilon blocked Fear. Being a ground type, it barely hurt. The ground ghost would slab the ground, using Mud Slap to attack the trio as Fear finished them off with a Pursuit. Nodding, Chael slung a Pokeball from his hand.

Getting that look from a pokemon with more than enough pointy fangs to spare, that sent chills down Nolan's spine despite the heat. Valor looked over at Argos too, and oblivious to what was going on, just greeted the gator all friendly like. Nolan sighed, wondering again if his Shinx-now-Luxio was damaged in the head or something. Oh well, Nolan still wouldn't want his Spark cat to change, so he just shored up his nerve and didn't look at Argos again.

Instead Nolan stood up as Chael approached.
"Nice, you got it. And I caught a what? I remember this kid in Blyse caught something he called a shiny Blitzle, and it was kind of blue instead of black. And it had extra sheen to it. You sure about- oh"
Nolan glanced over the pokedex in Chael's hand and then looked over at the Trapinch he had caught.
"Oh, I don't think I'll keep it though. Does it being shiny make it any stronger or anything? I want to keep Cocoa as my Ground type pokemon."

"I don't think I'm ready to start training Dragon pokemon," said the trainer with the Gyarados.
Nolan did take a peek at Chael's pokedex to get the entire story on what Trapinch would look like when it fully evolved. Then Nolan looked at Trapinch. Then at the pokedex. And back to Trapinch.
"That is one weird evolution. Well, I'll think about it, but if what you say about shiny pokemon is true, I don't want to give it special treatment just because it's a rare color for a pokemon. I've seen plenty of shiny pokemon before."

Now Valor came over to see what the humans were looking at, and because he felt like he needed more attention. The Spark cat didn't like how Nolan kept looking at that green Trapinch, but all was forgiven when Nolan rubbed Valor's ears, making the cat's tail wiggle with happiness.

"Well, how about that battle anyway? My Torkoal, Aron, and Trapinch against three of yours. Let's not use any super effective moves, like no Fire moves against Grass, so that they have time to practice on their footwork."
Nolan glanced over at the three he had just caught on a sudden whim. He still wasn't sure why he really caught them, other than his initial reasons. He didn't even know if Torkoal evolved or what Aron turned into. It was just one of those snap decisions he actually makes pretty often.
"Torkoal, how about you first? What can you do?"

The turtle walked up, slowly, and stopped next to Nolan and Valor, ready to battle. There was no fear here, and all at once, Torkoal snorted out a cloud of White Smoke, just as his ability called it. The turtle steamed and bubbled like a tea kettle, working up the smoke.
"Jeeze, um, well, if you're ready to battle, Chael."
First move would go to Chael anyway because of the dismal speed the turtle possessed.

"GYAAAAAASHOOO!"
Nolan flinched out of surprise at the loud sound the Gyarados roared, and he wondered for a moment when Dosu got out of his ball. But that was fine, Nolan loved having his pokemon around him. So he made sure to toss the pokeball for Ninjask too. Now all six of his pokemon could hang out, while he battled with three of them. And maybe Ninjask could explain a few things to Aron, about why not to suddenly just to wander off.

Nolan wondered where that Aron thought he was going. Maybe he didn't quite understand that he belonged to a trainer now, oh well.

"I guess I can start. Torkoal, what else can you do? How about a ..."
Nolan consulted his pokedex for his moves.
"Curse? What kind of move is that?"
Torkoal lowered his head like a battering ram and muttered something under his breath. For a second the colors in his body seemed to bleed away, turning a purple hue, and then they returned with Torkoal looking a little meaner than before. His attack and defense were higher, at the cost of some of his already slow, slow speed.

This time it was a Trapinch. While it wasn't a Shiny like what Nolan had (so unfair), it would do. He called back Scar and sent out Blue, knowing that a Trapinch had only two moves learned at this stage. Since they were base form of Flygon, which was a Dragon-type, it wouldn't learn moves as readily. But it still had a moveset of its own, however limited.

And so came the Arena Trap, catching both Des and Blue in the shifting sands. Tch. He tossed Skulltula outside of the trap and had it lower a web for him to grab on to. While he couldn't escape, he at least wouldn't sink down to be a snack.

And so began the Bite-fest (as Blue's only attack that would be effective was Bite and all Trapinch knew was, well... Bite). It proved to be evenly matched, since Trapinch had a ton of Attack power even though Blue had almost double the level.

It took 3 Pokeballs to finally capture the Trapinch, and once it disappeared the sands stopped sinking. He recovered the two spent Pokeballs before helping Blue get out of the pit first. He then climbed out with Skulltula's help.

(( Pursuit technically only has priority +7 when a pokemon is being switched out, otherwise it's normal.

And I'm sorry, Gabriel. I'll take it easy now and chill out. It's that Tsuki has gotten so far ahead of me I was starting to feel the rush to attempt to catch up on levels. I've realized I've been getting stressed since I've been going too fast. I'll wait. ))

Smog inflicts damage and has a 40% chance of poisoning the target. 70% Accuracy. 1-40 is poisoned and 71-100 is a miss.





Learning what Curse did, Nolan nodded to the Ranger, and he was glad it did not do the same to Torkoal as it did for Ghost types. And it also reminded him he wasn't being thoughtful, and forgot that he could ask questions to Des as well. And just the fact that now he knew what he could use for his upcoming gym battle, much of his confidence returned. He was going to do fine, and it would be probably difficult, yet possible.

After Torkoal weathered the hit from Fear, Nolan glanced down at his pokedex again for another move for the turtle to use. He knew what Ember did, and he could bet he knew what Withdraw was all about.
"Torkoal, how about your Smog attack next?"

The turtle nodded, snorting out a thick plume of smoke from both his nostrils. The white steam turned to gray, and then changed to a greasy dark green smog laced with poisonous fumes. The dark cloud rose up around Torkoal, and even from a distance, Nolan could feel it sting his throat and eyes. Coughing, he knew right away Torkoal was going to be a dangerous pokemon to handle, yet he could do it, right?
