"Hey," Shun greeted quietly in return with a nod. It was a little hard to tell, but she didn't seem entirely comfortable up here. If she was wanting to descend back to a lower level, he wasn't going to try and keep her.

Since the boil didn't seem particularly interested in talking, Mitzi got back onto the ladder and headed down. Just knowing that she was getting closer to the next level down, instead of further, helped a bit, and she made it past all the obstacles without too much trouble.

Edel mourned the wasted opportunity earlier that day when she had made it to the top to the observation point, her time to enjoy what the view up there offered cut short by the ... little situation with Danny. She didn't quite have the heart to blame it on Danny though, and no matter, she would just have to scale the ladder to the top again.
Whether it was coincidence or just plain bad luck, a shower of arrows came right at her just as she made her way past the spears. She knew they could be coming, but it never really scared her as much until Danny got hit. Immediately, Edel let herself slide down the ladder to avoid the arrows, sustaining a minor rope burn on the way. Still, could be worse.

Still clinging onto the ladder tightly, the ghoul hadn't quite given up the thought of reaching the top yet. Luckily, a strong gust of wind had picked her up and sent her dangerously close to the spears nearby, immediately convincing her otherwise.
She would just have to try again tomorrow.

It wasn't that Riley was suddenly afraid of the spears, exactly. It was just, right after such a close encounter, she simply felt like staying away from them. She dodged them pretty well, if only because she was paranoid, but when the volley of arrows came for her, this time she actually pulled back in dismay. Even if one or a few of them managed to go through her, there was always a chance one would lodge itself in her body, and make another nasty hole in her clothing.
She should have brought more clothes..

And for the first time since she'd come to the Isle, Riley actually lost her nerve. She decided that braving the spears a second time was just asking for her luck to run out, and left to explore other, less pointy points of interest.

Ulmuka climbed quickly, remembering about the traps and avoiding them. It was his second try at this course and he was determined to do better. Halfway up the ladder a gust of wind sent it spinning. Any horseman that was flying grasped onto the ladder almost simultaneously. The sway sent Ulmuka hurtling to his doom.

The strix looked up and kept climbing. He was determine not to look down and lose his nerve like he did before.

Yin looked down as Alexander called out. Nope. Still not budging. "Greetings Alexander." Yep, completely calm. Alexander was standing on the rung beneath him anyway, so he could not back down.
Suddenly there was a gust of wind and he squeezed his eyes shut as he gripped the ladder even tighter. A spear whistled past. "So. Easy. Yes." He was perfectly fine right here on the ladder.
Really.

The last time Mitzi had scaled the ladder to the observation point, she had been able to focus on her goal, and avoiding the traps, and make it up without incident. This time turned out not to be so lucky.
She managed to avoid the traps, but one knocked the ladder, and as it swayed she found herself looking down. She quickly closed her eyes, but it was enough to unnerve her. After a couple deep breaths, she managed to push herself on, but she was no longer sure she could do this again.

And then, as she kept climbing... once again, she felt the edge. She looked up, and a smile broke across her face. She'd done it!
She hauled herself up, but more because she felt like it didn't count if she stayed on the ladder. Off in the distance she saw more horsemen flying toward the portal, and could only wonder what was so important that they were heading in and out of it all the time. Surely they weren't going to Halloween, not that many of them... so where else?

She took a few minutes to look around the observation deck again, but really, there wasn't anything up there that she hadn't seen before. So she finally started on her way down again, careful not to look at the drop as she went. She managed to dodge the traps safely, with no more close misses, and finally made it to the bottom safely.
It really was getting a little easier each time - specifically the heights, not the climb itself. Maybe by the time she left, she'd be almost all right with them.
She doubted she'd ever be happy with them the way Roch was, though.

Alex grinned at the other boil, perfectly content to stay and chat with him before heading back up along his way to the top of the observation point. Because he definitely was going to get to the top again. He was. Really.
A gust of wind caught the ladder and Alex hissed in his breath sharply, his grip suddenly tightening on the rung of the ladder. He could feel his nails digging into his hands from around the rung itself, and he flinched as a spear whistled past, pulling himself in closer to the ladder and effectively much closer to Yin.
"Ah yes, well. I'm perfectly fine here too, I think. Uh..have you uh..been to the top yet? If you're going back down I could go with you..."

Ulmuka had tried twice and failed twice to get up this tower. He was trying to get over the ridiculous wind and less than safe ladder. Flying didn't seem an option since he was unfamiliar with the route and dangerous weaponry seemed to shoot out all over the place.
He'd gotten up the first stretch of ladder just fine and he even avoided being speared to death. Feeling accomplished, he didn't even see the arrows coming.

Once more he tried and upon reaching a certain point the wind kicked up again. The strix knew exactly what was going to happen. All he could do was his close his eyes and accept the inevitable failure.
