Mitzi hadn't tried the sparring stadium yet, although she had passed it several times as she was wandering around the village. With nothing else planned yet for the day, she decided a little time sparring with some of the horsemen would probably be a good warm-up and good practice.
She accepted a staff from the horsewoman, yet again a weapon she wasn't used to. But the point here was to learn, right? So she went into the ring, and tried to get into a ready stance. The horseman already in the ring started forward, and Mitzi raised her staff in a block.
The spar went back and forth for a while, and the ghoul managed to get a couple good hits in herself, but the horseman was both more experienced in general and with staffs in particular. She started to fall back, with him gaining ground, until he managed to knock the staff from her hands.
Mitzi found herself outside the ring, breathing hard as she watched him start his next match. Well, at the very least it had been a good learning experience.

Even though she was out of the tournament, Mitzi decided to stay for a few more sparring matches. It was the only way she'd get better, after all. So she found another ring, separate from the tournament going on, and spent a little time practicing with her staff.
As she was doing so, a horsewoman came into the ring with her, and Mitzi stopped her private practice to move into a ready stance. As soon as this horsewoman attacked, though, Mitzi knew she was outclassed. She managed one or two lucky strikes, but it was mostly all she could do to keep blocking, and it wasn't long before the horsewoman had defeated her.

The horsewoman left Mitzi in her ring, since they weren't part of the tournament anyway, and by then another had shown up. This time Mitzi took the first attack, and she managed to get several good hits in. The horsewoman she was sparring with seemed to be much better at defense, though, so it went back and forth for a little while, before Mitzi started to tire out. As the ghoul's attacks slowed, the horsewoman's picked up, and soon the ghoul found herself on the ground again.
This really just wasn't her day so far.

With her three losses so far, Mitzi really didn't want to just leave it at that. It seemed like a bad start at the day, and she wasn't so tired she couldn't go another round. So she caught the eye of one last person, even as she decided that this would probably be her last round regardless.
This time she must have picked a younger horsewoman, as the battle started out more even. She also tried a few tricks that had been used on her earlier on, and was a little surprised when they actually worked. This time, the battle slowly started to go in Mitzi's direction, and she felt a thrill of pride when she was the one at the end, standing over her opponent.
She may not have done well in the tournament, but at least she had learned something, and that was the most important thing, right?

After how poorly she had done the day before, Mitzi resolved to try the stadium tournament again. She showed up, and knowing what to do this time, took one of the staffs. The horsewoman in charge pointed her to a ring, and she headed over.
The first spar was fairly even, with both her and her opponent managing to get a lot of hits in. By the time they decided to call it a draw, they were both breathing hard, and more than ready for a break.

Since the first battle was a draw, Mitzi went up against her same opponent a second time. This time, though, right at the beginning she received a hard strike on her elbow, causing her whole arm to go numb. Essentially fighting with one arm was too much for her, and her opponent took her out very quickly.

Frustrated to have been beaten so quickly once again, she decided to stick around and practice a bit more. The next opponent she got was a horseman who seemed to be closer to her own level. However, she had jumped into another battle too quickly and her arm was still feeling weak. She was able to mostly defend against his strikes, but a few got through, and she was barely able to get in any of her own. So once again she found herself losing.

She decided to do one last spar before calling it a day. This time she ended up with a much more experienced horsewoman. When it became clear she was badly outmatched, instead of simply beating her, the horsewoman took some time to actually teach her some techniques to use.
So by the end, although she had lost all her spars, Mitzi was feeling okay with how her time at the stadium had gone.
