((Now doing this the right way... o_o))

Taking a few moments to catch his breath, Shun soon noticed that Calder was within the area to do the same. The Reaper gave him a nod of acknowledgement, then sought himself another opponent. Approaching the horseman, he bowed down in respect before getting into stance. Once it began, the two were facing off in quite the flurry.

They were pretty equally matched, trading blows along with evading rather skillfully. Either the Reaper was doing good to guard his left side, or his opponent wasn't trying to really exploit it. Regardless, he was able to hold his own pretty good despite not being too well versed in staff combat. It had a different sort of dynamic to it than using his daggers.

After several minutes of combat, he managed to land the final blow onto the war horseman. It was a good fight.

Roll for Fun 2:

He tapped his hoof against the ground, focusing on her moves. She was going to him him, and he really didn't want her to hit him. Could he charge? They were restricted to this circle. Not many places to go.

Deciding to try an assault, he moved in, but he already noticed her wings spread and push her to the side. To counter, he swung his staff wide and clipped her wing, but she in turn hit his back.

They broke apart on opposing sides once more.

Circling, it was the ghoul's turn to take the incentive. He thought HE was fast, but the added gust of wind from her wings made her shoot as quickly as a dart in her direction, and while he sent his staff down upon her, she dodged to the left, swinging out. Kicking back, he retreated backwards, rubbing his shoulder where he was hit.

Roll for Fun 4:

There movements became more calculated, and while the ghoul seemed more at ease, Calder was clacking his hooves with a bit more power, wanting to kick more than he wanted to hit with a staff. His nostrils flared as he watched her, and his tail flicked behind him. She was healthy, energetic, and confident. Her torso was wrapped in bones and leather, and her hair tied off in many braids and feathers. Her wings shimmered in the sun that cut through the canopy.

He didn't get chances to have fights seeing as he wasn't in his clan that he actually felt energized despite the pain. He was sore, but he wanted to at least get one good hit in before he could walk away for a rest. Just one hit.

As he darted at him again, he moved to meet her, and their staves hit each other once, twice, before she stabbed his shoulder as he hit her side.

Stumbling back, he rubbed his shoulder again, feeling his grip on his staff being affected. Smart. Hitting him where it would make swinging harder.

They continued, hitting each other, and while he could hit her, it was never anywhere vital. A bit of her side here, a part of her arm that she used to block. Each vital part she protected while he only left his exposed. Despite his endurance, he felt himself becoming more sore, each movement stinging, and his speed becoming sluggish.

She was good. Very good, but she wasn't going for large hits. They were sturdy, strong jabs, here and there, places that hurt and continued to hurt as she returned to them to enforce the damage. Chipping away. All the while, he tried to find a place to really hit her and drop her down, but she darted, stepped back, circled and waited.

He continued, rubbing his shoulder and feeling his sides and shoulders and arms feel warm from the smacks to her staff.

Calder was breathing hard, holding his staff. She noticed the fatigue. He knew what it felt, and knew that if he didn't get one good hit in soon, he was done.

Wiping his brow, he circled with her, staff held out but arms twitching from drain and many hits. As she moved against him, he hit to whatever he spotted first, trying for her ride, but she held her elbow out to take the force while then swinging to hit his side again. It hurt, and he stepped away, not bothering to rub his arm at this point. Everything felt warm and numb from the wood hitting his bare skin.

He had one go in him, and he knew that was it. Breathing hard, he waited, and they both charged. Staves hit, hit again, turned and meet, before he went for her shoulder, and she went for his.

His staff dropped as his legs felt as if they would buckle, and he breathed out. She rose her weapon up, not smiling in any sense of smug satisfaction, but serious and watching, before she lowered her staff when she saw he was not going for it.

She gave a curt nod, and he watched as he waited on him. "You're......you're good." He managed. "Thanks....for ....the practice." He was sure to have bruises all over his body and they would not be as pretty as the instructor's tattoos. Worn, he nodded, and returned the staff back to the Instructor. She watched him go, and he waved goodbye before heading back to the dorms. Sleeping on the floor sounded really great right about now.

The Stadium:

There is a small stadium for young War Horsemen set up away from the larger training fields, several circles set out for pairs to spar against each other in. A rather rugged looking female stands, dark skinned, light haired, covered in scars and warpaint, her hair unevenly cut in the back to a short length and ridiculously long and braided in the front, wrapped around itself, several feathers tucked into both it and the dark stained fabric, bones from several different types of creatures weaved into jewelry she wears, her wings colored like a golden eagle. On one arm, she has several slashes of paint – what looks like hundreds, trailing down it. After staring too long she finally speaks up:

“There is one for each battle I have won.” She said simply, shifting the pole she held to her other hand before turning to show her other arm, which is spotted with paint of a different color – and much more numerous. “I have one for each battle I have lost as well. To become a true warrior, you must climb your way to the top from the very bottom, and the best place to start is practicing against those who may just be better than you.” She explained, before motioning to one of the circles and an individual that was practicing on their own.

“Go join them.” She says, “If you think you’re ready. If you win, you will be paired up with the winner of another spar. So on, and so forth. After five victories, a break will be allowed for the day.” She says, the only explanation she gives as she hands off a small staff.

Mechanics

There are 5 rounds

Roll 2d8 each post
First dice is how hard you hit
Second dice is how hard the opponent hit
You want to roll higher than your NPC opponent.
If you roll a tie roll a tiebreaker between them (same as the above)

If you lose a match any matches you roll -for fun- afterwards cannot be counted towards points, but you can keep rolling spars!

Please fill in each of your posts with a small summary of how your spar went! It could be more than one hit, despite having only rolled one! Have fun with it!

Round 1

He bypassed where the weapons were kept and made his way directly into the circle he had been directed to before helping Biskoto off his shoulder, giving her several pets on her head; she was the only weapon he needed... Then again, because she was so heavy, he had to train hard to keep up with her growth, so he couldn't disagree with the Clan's take on training their physical body... It was a good thing that her growth had slowed after she matured.

It was hard to believe that she was so tiny when he first summoned her.

When his opponent was ready, Thanatos got into position as well - behind his familiar. Despite the fact that he regarded Biskoto as his only friend - everyone else were 'friendly acquaintances he had managed to build up - she was also his familiar. His weapon. In fact, she had went into position long before Thanatos got ready, her head held high from the ground, eyes focused on the target in front of her. Once the signal was given, both snake and horseman attacked - him with a knife and her with her jaws wide, teeth bared.

Within the next few seconds, her jaws had found itself around the horseman's wrist as the horseman's knife found its way to her throat throat. They were seconds away from seriously injuring each other... Which was why this was declared an obvious tie.

Round 1 - Tie-breaker!

With a tie between the horseman and his familiar, he decided to test his own strength out - via punching and fighting the horseman with force, who had also decided to use his fists in an attempt to create a 'fair fight'. When the signal to start was given, he held up both fists in front of him, blocking and protecting his face before going in for the attack.

A few blows were exchanged, the horseman of War being as strong as he looked; the first was quick, and rather brutal. He could feel the bruises on his arms forming already, from where the horseman had punched him. However, he had managed to land a few successful punches himself... All in all, a good fight. However, although it was a close battle, he ended up losing to the horseman.

Round 2

Although he had no experience with weapons - being used to fighting beside or behind his familiar - Thanatos decided that perhaps, this would be a good time to start learning how... And there was no better way to learn than to experience right? Even though his opponent was an obviously strong horseman, who probably had lots of experience with handling all types of weapons.

Grabbing a knife - seeing how he had a little bit of experience with those, from the weapons crafting session - he returned to the ring. The horseman, too, had followed suit, and had a knife in hand.

Perhaps the whole 'lack of experience' thing was his downfall, but a few minutes into the spar, Thanatos found himself forced back, the knife dangerously close to his face... And he liked his face the way it was now, thank you very much. Dropping his weapon, the reaper yielded to his opponent.

This just wasn't his day.

Round 3

Although he had technically no need to continue, he found himself rather... Upset at the constant losses. Thus, he decided to return to what he knew best. This time, his opponent had picked up a spear - probably the weapon he was most familiar with. Fair's fair, after all.

When the match started, Biskoto sprung forward, fast despite her size, jaw wide open to reveal rows of sharp teeth, designed to hook onto flesh, and tear it up. Thanatos followed behind, posed to block any blows that might be directed to him, yet ready to deliver any blows if needed; with his familiar out like that, he was vulnerable.

Within a few minutes, they had won the match, defeating the horseman, and even breaking his spear; best to stick to what they know, after all.

Weapon Crafting

While the Horsemen of War can summon their Clan weapon to them at any point, many take pride in mastering a variety of mundane weaponry as well, both combat and manufacture - no sense in limiting oneself to only one mode of battle, after all! Even 'decorative' weapons bear a brutal edge.

The Crafters' Den is a sheltered platform halfway up a massive pine, with all the materials one might want, other than metal. The head Crafter, a sharp-eyed older Horsewoman, carefully watches all students under her care to ensure a.) nothing goes missing and b.) nobody gets stupid. "You can have enough to make one knife," she grumbles. "And don't waste it, either!"

Can you impress her with your craftsmanship? ... Probably not. But it's worth a try.

Phase One: Weapon Creation

Create a weapon of War and test its mettle. If your craftsmanship is good, you may be victorious and gain the head Crafter's favor. For a minute or two, anyway.

In your first post, roll 3d4 to determine what your knife is made of, how well it is made, and how it is decorated.

First Dice: Material
- 1: Wood (+1 point)
- 2: Seashell (+2 points)
- 3: Bone (+3 points)
- 4: Stone (think flint or obsidian; +4 points)

Second Dice: Craftsmanship
- 1: You're in a bit of a hurry, so... (Shoddy: +1 point)
- 2: You throw something together. It looks kinda close? (Mediocre: +2 points)
- 3: You spend a bit of time on it, and come up with something okay. (Acceptable: +3 points)
- 4: You throw yourself into your work with passion, paying close attention to detail! (Awesome: +4 points)

Third Dice: Artistry
- 1: It's a knife. Does it really matter if it's pretty or not? (Ugly: +1 point)
- 2: You wrap the hilt in leather. Good enough. (Decent: +2 points)
- 3: You wrap the hilt in leather and add a feather. Pretty! (Shiny: +3 points)
- 4: You wrap the hilt in leather and add stylish strands of beads and feathering. That is one cool knife. (Stylish: +4 points)

Roleplay out your knife's creation! At the end of your post, put the specifics of your knife's creation (i.e. Shoddy Stylish Wood Knife) along with the total score (the total of your dice roll).

Phase Two: Weapon Testing

In the Clan of War, there is no such thing as a decorative blade! Even weapons destined to hang on the walls of huts are finished to battle-ready quality. You must test your knife and prove its worth, attacking the simple leathery mannequin kept in the Den for that purpose.

Take your knife's point score from the creation post. This is your knife's HP. You must now do battle until your knife breaks! The number of posts your knife survives determines the number of points you get.

To Do Battle:
Roll 2d4 in each post. The first dice indicates the number of damage your knife does to the test target (for RP flavor!). The second dice indicates the amount of damage your knife takes from the attack.

Battle ends when your knife shatters. Aw. (And yes, this means you can't take it with you. Sorry!)

Point Distribution

You win one point if: You finish your knife (with filled-out RP) and last one or two rounds of testing.

You win two points if: You finish your knife (with filled-out RP) and last three or four rounds of testing.

You win three points if: You finish your knife (with filled-out RP) and last over five rounds of testing.

There were a few different things Shun could do for his training today. He did want to do some more sparring, but first, he decided to have a hand at crafting a weapon once more. While it would never replace his daggers, he supposed that it might be useful if he had time during a moment where he couldn't summon his weapons for whatever reason.

Making his way back into the crafter's hall, he moved on towards the materials table, looking over what was around.

There was another chunk of obsidian, which was good. Stone, in his opinion, was a better material for a blade than bone. Finding a nice looking piece, he began to whittle away at the edges to sharpen it. He spent more time working with it, wanting to make sure that it wasn't too brittle. The end result was not too bad at all. It could use a little improvement, but it wasn't bad.

From there, he wrapped the hilt in leather and added a feather just like last time. Well. After a little more thought, he added some beads too. Because why the hell not.

With his knife done, he gave it a few test swings in the air, deciding that he was done.

Shun has obtained an Adequately Stylish Obsidian knife +11
