Candace looked genuinely surprised by Jerry actually agreeing to let her help. He was really doing it. He was really giving being friends a try! She smiled, rubbing the back of her neck and looking down at Sasha and the intricate artwork she was drawing with crayons. Jesus this girl was like something out of a fairy tale sometimes. "If you're in an area that accommodates for that you can get them at a store during an external mission...Clarice does that with coveralls, I think." She'd said something like that. "Or during a safe leave weekend.." Which was when she planned on going to Paris oh my god.

Finally sitting down beside Sasha, Candace grabbed a clipboard off the table and took a piece of paper. "Like I said, I'm not very artsy but I can write things for you to draw around." She looked up to see Jerry getting excited, her smile turning somewhat sad as she watched him. She hadn't seen him that happy in a long time, and it wasn't her doing...it was Sasha's. No! No, no. Don't think like that. Get over it. Move on. She forced a happy smile again in time for when Jerry looked her way. Ah, but cheese? "You're not supposed to have dairy or anything that'll coat your throat when you're singing." Candace interjected gently, blushing a little as she said this. "Er...not that..I know much about singing I..."

s**t.

Her cheeks flushed darker as Sasha looked at her. She cleared her throat. "A-annnnyway.."

"We just need to make a mess more. Let's write something about a band on a few," Jerry didn't so much ignore Candace, as was much happier to relax and pretend she wasn't there. Or wasn't... her. He crouched shoulder to shoulder with Sasha as he snatched up a few more crayons, but his artistic expertise was not quite as... effective... as the girl's. His handwriting was clean enough, though, and he set about making the appropriate block letters in various flashy colors. Teal and Orange went well right? Sure, why not.

"That sounds good, Candace," Sasha smiled encouragingly towards her friend, nodding once before she turned her attention back to Jerry's handiwork. "Nice ah. Nice choices in color, Jerry."

She wouldn't let herself feel awkward, not now. Not when.. when Candace was blushing. Sasha reached out to give Candace a little pat on her knee.

"This is nice," Sasha chirped quietly. "All of us working together. It's um. It's fun, isn't it." Nope, not weird or awkward, not at all.

When the topic of cheese came up Sasha grew very serious.

"I didn't know that about cheese. I love cheese." Her mouth scrunched up as she mulled that tidbit of information over. "Darn. Well. We'll have to come up with.. with something else, then. Just.. just as long as Julie doesn't have anything to do with the uh. The ... preparation."

"I still think it's safer to just ask Before," Jerry laughed, giving Sasha a playful shove as he sat back to attempt to decorate his flier with music notes.

Sasha reached out and delivered a light poke to Jerry's leg, giggling quietly before she turned to peer at Candace.

"What do you think, Candace? Should we let Before do the cooking? Or do we go shopping the next chance we get? For cheese? Real cheese, too. And plums. And grapes and figs."

She was starting to get hungry. Sasha gave a mournful look at the apple chips she'd pilfered from the vending machine. She already knew how those tasted - and it wasn't good.

"Or we can have Robert get us more doughnuts. Have you had doughnuts before, Jerry?"

Jerry snorted, "Of course I've had donuts! What, is Robert the bringer of donuts or something? Ahahaha. But a box of them would be great too!" And an additional excuse to get Robert to *show up*. "Hey. Sasha. You're friends with him, right?" He suddenly got that mischievous glint in his eye as he turned to smile at her. "You can make sure he comes, right?"

Sasha's eyebrows twitched as she turned to peer at Jerry.

"I never had doughnuts before! Robert brought them to me. They had white stuff on them - they were so good." She tapped her chin thoughtfully as she fished for another piece of paper.

"Well, ah.. I'll ask him? I'm sure he'll come, he's so nice. Why wouldn't he want to come?"

This was hard. She wanted to just pretend everything was okay, that just simply saying they could attempt friendship would make things instantly better. She wanted to pretend that seeing Jerry interact with Sasha didn't make her eyes burn and her chest tighten. Candace calmed when a hand touched her knee, giving Sasha a quiet smile and nodding. "Mhm! I don't usually do things like this." She chirped, patting Sasha's hand. She'd be okay. Sasha was a sweetheart.

"Well..my old coach would ban us from having chips, greasy food, anything with salt or dairy before a game. Like, no cake...no burgers, no crackers, no pizza, milk..it'd coat our throats and keep us from being able to properly use our voices. It was basically the same thing for my friends when they had choir.." She gave a laugh at the idea of Julie being involved with food. Okay, she had to give her credit for the cake it had been amazing, but everything else was dangerous. And it was so cute how Sasha kept bringing up she'd never had a donut before Robert..

Before...th..they...they were practically flirting. Candace swallowed hard, looking as pleasant as could be as she gave a little shrug to Sasha's question. "I don't know how Before's cooking skills are. I hear he can bake? I don't know what else he does. There's no harm in trying." Candace wanted out. This could have been fun if she hadn't had to see Jerry be so happy because of someone not her. She was too used to being..the one who brightened his foggiest days.

It hurt.

"Robert's only recently come 'out of the closet' about his musical talents, so to speak. You'd think he was ashamed.." Candace shrugged, slyly reaching into her pocket and making her phone's ringtone go off. She jumped, putting down the paper and crayon she was working with to snatch her phone out of her pocket and look down at the screen with a curious look; she kept the screen out of Jerry and Sasha's view. "s**t, it's Aria. I have to get this one, guys. I'm sorry." Sighing, Candace put her phone back into her pocket. She did manage to finish one poster, at least. Moving closer to Sasha to give her a friendly kiss on the cheek and a smile. "I'll see you two later, okay? Text me if you need anything."

Candace tried not to be too quick about getting up and collecting her things, though she did it with a hurried enough pace of if she had actually been texted by her division leader that she needed to be somewhere else.

Jerry glanced up, his face flushing as Candace suddenly was gathering her things. He couldn't help but feel relieved. It was... awkward. But. They were making some progress. That was good. It was... something. But what was he supposed to do? He couldn't just...

He was over thinking it. Just relax. Work on getting his brain back in order. That was the most important thing, if the little Killzone in the back of his head said anything.

"Oh. Um. Bye." He managed, biting his lip as he glanced away from the kiss to Sasha, his stomach twisting. "We'll um. Talk again. Soon." He offered, at least. He wasn't sure he would instigate it next time, but it was bound to happen, and polite to say, wasn't it?

"Robert has -- oh!" Sasha watched Candace check her phone, a disappointed expression twisting her features. "It's okay, Candace," Sasha leaned into the friendly kiss, cheeks blooming a pleasant pink. She grasped the back of Candace's jacket, letting it trail through her fingers as the woman stepped away. "I'm so happy to have seen you today," Sasha finished with a soft smile.

And then Sasha turned to give Jerry a stern look. Almost. She mostly looked like she was in pain.

Even Sasha-level of stern look seemed to effect Jerry, who fell silent as she left, huddling down over their work to concentrate on going over the same letters over and over again, his own expression oddly blank with a tinge of pain.

The tug on her coat got her attention, looking down at Sasha with a bit of surprise. Oh, she was so sweet. Candace couldn't help but smile, a genuine smile. "I'm very happy too, rose bud! You certainly brighten my day~." As much as she inadvertently dampened it as well. It wasn't Sasha's fault. It wasn't her fault at all.

"Have fun with your posters." Candace said cheerfully as she left, closing the door behind her. She headed straight for her room, almost wishing the text she'd said she'd received had been real.

The instant that Candace left, Sasha turned to Jerry and just watched him for a long, long few moments. Still a bit stern, but with a bit of tenderness.

"Jerry."

Sasha's mouth pinched as she thought about what she should say next. After everything she'd overheard...

"It's okay to be hurt, Jerry." She reached forward and gave him an awkward pat on the shoulder. "And.. I know y-you're.. trying. It's good. Just.. forgiveness isn't a weakness. It's a virtue, a strength." Sasha tilted her head to the side. "Don't make yourself sad if it's easier to forgive."

Probably easier said than done, but it was a rule she tried to follow.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 28, 2012 7:49 pm

He continued to quietly pepper his flier with half hearted music notes before finally drawing in a long breath. "I wish it was easy to just forgive her," He finally said softly, "I'd be a lot happier... but. But it's too complicated. We can't just go back. Not after what happened."

He seemed to leave it at that, putting his page to the side to start a fresh one, silent for some time before he started humming under his breath, almost compulsively, "I... once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me..."

Sasha watched Jerry silently for a long stretch of time, her brows furrowing as he reached for another page. When he started humming, Sasha sighed. He sounded so sad. Sasha wanted to see him smile again.. but..

"Well.. what happened?"
