Rocket Agent Star

PostPosted: Thu Mar 22, 2012 7:34 am

Star nodded importantly and approached the jet, "The Yanmega jet is one of the fastest prototypes we've assembled.. it's capable of pushing mach four. Its skin is a light weight yet sturdy heat-treated composite alloy composed mostly of titanium..." He ran a finger down the jet as he spoke, walking alongside it, "It's equipped with custom air inlets that can function at both high and subsonic speeds.. their unique design, along with my frame modifications cut the vehicle's energy consumption by nearly 30%." He smirked and leaned against the jet, gesturing as he spoke, "It can be outfitted with a range of weapons, but is most commonly packing air defense suppression missiles. They're custom built and utilize tracking software written by yours truly." He placed a hand on his chest as he said this, "It has an astro-inertal navigation system paired with a sensor array so complex that it's no exaggeration to say it flies itself. Like most Galactic vehicles its user interface is so simple a child could pilot it."

While Star hated the vehicle and resented being forced to make it, he seemed to enjoy being a source of knowledge quite a lot. He examined his nails as he finished his summary, looking like he felt very important.

He certainly seemed to be proud of the work he did, not that she could fault him for it.
Though she noticed he leaned more toward puffing himself up rather then the machine itself.

She glanced at Frost once he was finished, the Tech department had been working on this machine for months, since they got it. And had been extremely thorough, none of that information was new to either of them.

The engineer arched her eyebrows, turning back to Star "Perhaps it would be best to approach this differently." The Agent suggested while at the same time reaching to her belt where she pulled out a pokeball, with a small black USB drive was sticking out of it.
She looked to Porygon, returning the pokemon into it, and pulling the USB out of the port on its surface once the light on the stick turned red.

"If you would follow me." She offered, politely gesturing over to one of the computers.
"Externally we were able to determine the jet's specs," as she said this she slipped the USB into the computer's port.
"Bring up the most complete schematics" She seemed to say to the computer.

No sooner had she finished her order, then the screen was filled with detailed scans and readings they had taken on the ship, confirming what Star had told them so far about it.
"We've already started to utilize much of what we've learned." She said, pulling away and looking at Star. "It is beautifully crafted."
She looked back to the computer.

"Porygon, bring up the dark files."
The whole screen changed, showing the outline of the jet, but this time sections of it were highlighted, focusing on the energy source, as well as a few sections deep in the jet they had not been able to reach yet.

"Right here." She pointed out. "Can you tell us anything about these sections here?"
She almost held her breath,
If this was going to be anything like the G-ball, then no one here would have any hope in understanding the power source of this gorgeous machinery... But maybe Star did understand, maybe.

When Faleen beckoned him to follow, Star arched an eyebrow and pushed away from the jet to trail after the Rocket. He tilted his head as she moved her Porygon to the computer and started speaking to it.

He nodded vague agreement as she spoke, brow furrowing. When she highlighted the unfamiliar parts of the jet he stopped nodding. When she pointed at the heart of the machine he grimaced.

"Oh... that.." His eyes drifted back to the jet. He was looking at it like it'd just done something offensive.

"Yes that's.." He cleared his throat, "That's the singularity reactor... it's.. ah... a small device. Cylindrical. About 10 inches across." He measured the size with his hands.

"It has seven external ports and adapters.. power hook ups to provide energy to the vehicle and its systems. It doesn't require recharging. At least.. it won't in our lifetimes. Deimos estimates the lifespan of one reactor to be 900 years...... approximately...... of course we can't really test that so.. we're just trusting his math.... which.... is technically impossible..."

He looked angry.

"And yet," Frost put in quietly, "it makes the metal bug people-carry thing go zoom zoom in the big blue, correct?" All of this was delivered with almost complete deadpan; the only emotion that showed was a trace of annoyance. "Mister Star it works and therefore it is possible. We are scientists, we accept the evidence of our own eyes; believing what is written down somewhere over what you can see and prove makes you a theologian. Which are you, Mister Star? If you're the former tell us what you can, if you are the latter I am sure I can find you a private room where you can pray for the rules of the universe to behave as you believe they ought."

Star tensed and turned a glare on Frost. "I am a scientist and I just told you what I know! It obviously works and I've seen the math it just..." He gestured vaguely with some sort of frustration that moving his arms seemed to help relieve. "I've tried to get him to explain whether there's some sort of nuclear energy or a black hole or a new type of particle in there and he just.. throws out gibberish like.. like.. matter recycler beam. He calls particle accelerators thing speeders for Arceus' sake! It's like trying to understand physics from an eight-year-old's diary!"

As the two men talked, Faleen kept her mouth shut, though her face had flushed with red as the topic shifted to whether of not the potability of this power source Deimos worked on was real or not.

She agreed with Frost, of course it was real, it was staring them in the face, and if anyone in this room would know anything about it, then it would be Star, since he clearly worked with Deimos for quite a long time, and bragged about being able to translate his work.

But at the same time...
Faleen shifted a quiet, uncertain glance to Frost.
She didn't dare contradict her comrade in front of this former Galactic, out of respect for Frost, but with Star's explanation of how Deimos' mind worked... She knew exactly what he was talking about.
Faleen had witnessed how the Galactic Boss was herself, more then that she had been the one to attempt to understand the G-ball.
Star was right, it was impossible, in this time and age this was science that was -impossible- or by all accounts in all reality is should be.
It was way beyond what they should be able to comprehend... yet somehow this man, this child like man was able to make sense of it.

Faleen turned away from both of them so she could look back at the Jet with a set jaw, her face burning with frustration.

At 'thing speeders' Frost looked incredulous. Perhaps he could understand a little more of Star's frustration; being expected to decipher pasta-based diagrams was bad enough but 'thing speeders'? Frost gave a slight sigh - expressive indeed by his standards - and shook his head. "Well it's not helpful if people refuse to use the proper language," he assented, "but any knowledge of these devices you bring to the table might well be more than we had before." Almost certainly would be. How did Deimos do it? It seemed most unfair, but thinking things like that was really very foolish because nothing in life was fair.

Star sighed and folded his arms, looking back at the jet. "I can give you output stats on it.... I know the energy levels and at what point it will overload. I know where it is in the vehicle and I can remove it for you. Beyond that..." He gestured vaguely. "Not knowing what type of energy's inside there I can't recommend opening it for further investigation without running the risk of radiation poisoning, blowing up the building or setting off some sort of black hole event..." It sounded like he'd been trying to figure out a safe way to peer inside Deimos' singularity reactors for some time. His strong sense of self preservation had prevented him from doing anything as shortsighted as ripping one open yet.
