"Strange how that one's so common and yet not the Queen's Common," the youth muttered as it dug through a satchel to pull out a small rounded pebble. Fred could feel the faint tinge of magic on it as the youth held it out to him. "Babel stone. Sort of a translator, will help you understand most the people here," it explained looking bored and giving an irritated glance down the hill toward the knight, "assuming they make sense in the first place," it grumbled. Fred still couldn't quite tell if the youth was a young boy or girl. The voice was a bit husky but the face soft, but the stance rough and the clothes mannish.

Alana
Alana released a small gasp. He had perfectly recited everything that had happened in Chicago during the past year. She began to feel a bit less frightened and lonesome. She looked at her feet in response to his second comment. "What's happening?"The helpless girl heard her own voice shake as she spoke, but she managed to withhold tears, for now at least.

[poke, please don't bold dialog]

"You're lost" the man explained simply, "More than you've ever been before." Then he shook his head at the girl's worry, "Everyone here is" he lifted his hand slightly from the cloak to motion at the others around him, "All's lost in Elsewhere" he paused and tilted his head slightly as one of the giggling angels by the bull fountain seemed to take notice and watch curiously.

"Come, let us go somewhere less crowded" the cloaked man turned slightly away to lead the girl off.

Alana
"Everyone lost? In Elsewhere. .?" The girl mumbled. She was a bit hesitant when he requested to leave. Leave with this stranger? In this strange place? The thought brought new questions. Who was this man? Where did he come from? Why was he helping her?

Alana's attention turned to the giggling fairies. She didn't think anyone would notice their encounter, but it seems they caught some of the crowd's attention. She looked around to see a few of the pedestrians and consumers glancing towards them conspicuously. Maybe leaving was a better idea.

She wordlessly followed the man in the robes.

The strange man nodded at her mumbling then lead her away from the crowded plaza, down a narrow side street. "In Aelzwyr" he said the word a little differently. "The land of lost things," he motioned with his hand again to the patchwork streets, the buildings that didn't seem to quite match. Chicago brownstone rubbed shoulders with adobe bricks and Greek marble in the many buildings that lined the road. People of all shapes, colors, and kinds milled about between stalls selling small wonders in the misty twilight.

"No one knows for sure but it seems this is where things go when they stop being in their own place," the man spoke calmly in that soft voice as he walked with her down the narrow cobble street lined with buildings of a dozen different designs, leading her away from the crowd to quieter paths.

Alana
Alana had so many questions in mind, but only one seemed to find its way outof her mouth. She stopped walking.

"Who are you?"

[poke, try to come up with longer responses.]

The man continued a few steps before stopping as well with a turn toward her, head tilted slightly under the hood. She caught the subtle movement of a smile spreading under the shadows again but still couldn't see his face as he listened to her question and gave it a moment's thought before bending at the waist in a shallow bow, "Call me Traveler." He straightened back up, "And you are?"

At the insistence of those around her, Linda reluctantly placed the babel stone in her ear again with a pitiful (and unquestionably sincere) whimper of "Hate everything..." as she did so.

Would have been good to know that piece of advice sooner, but Rüd just took it as more evidence that this worn and dirty salesman was even less dependable than he looked.

Regardless, it resolved the situation and let the Abwehran focus on other things: like the strange get-up this mounted man had. Overlapping plates of metal? An animal rug for a cape? This people had an... odd sense of style and defense. The Nightwalker simply had to ask: "Your armor," He gestured with a tattooed hand, "What's it made of?" No matter what the make, the getup suggested a lot about the horse: it was strong, especially if- as Rüd speculated- it was bred to carry such weight.

Similarly, the armored man's armaments were crude: the grip of a sword was evident, but not designed for fencing. For slicing with force, then, he guessed. One could probably muster a great deal of force from horseback while in motion, he also mentally noted. But right here, right now, Rüd had the advantage. Weapons take time to draw, and the armor could be removed. He smirked at this.

The odd mounted man grinned pleasantly down at the group as the tall woman placed a babel stone in her ear, her whimpered complaints not phasing him in the least. Rüd's study of his armaments found more prominently a large polearm than the sword lashed to his saddle. The pole was fit into a cup in his left stirrup and held in his left hand, the total length of it reaching a good height possibly equal to Rüd. The top was adorned with a double headed blade rather like an axe complete with an even taller spike at the center and decorative fringe below. The halberd was a shining example of its kind, as was the man's glistening armor. Intricate details filigreed each plate in a rich design not at all marred by the odd animal cape.

"Mithryl of course," the knight laughed at the Abwehran's question. "Odd introduction, stranger," he commented lightly. "Have a name or shall I think one up for you?"

Mithryl? Have to learn more about that. To answer the knight, the Abwehran easily dipped into his native throaty speech, "Rüd Grülik. And yours?" While they conversed, the Nightwalker sought more answers to be found on his person: the detail on his armor was intricate and therefore expensive. He was highly respected, highly feared, wealthy, or some combination thereof. If he had to guess, Rüd would say highly respected- and probably a little too cocksure of himself.

"Well, Rude Grewlick" the man butchered the name, "I am Sir Alexander - Protector of the Innocent, Slayer of Bears, Keeper of the Juice, Rider of Lightning, Taster of the Dead, Knower of Directions, Leaper of Spikes, Destroyer of Aberrations, Liberator of the Impoverished. . ." he trailed off a moment in thought, having slowed down by the end.

"Tamer of the Eagle, and Tree-lover!" the youth shouted sharply from the rise, that last one sounding almost like an insult.

Alex just laughed with a nod and wave to the youth for the help, "Yes, those too," he flashed a magnificent smile at the Abwehran with a slight bow from his saddle, "Justiciar of the Order of Right. At your service."

The mispronunciation was a common enough occurrence, and Rüd a relaxed enough individual, that it was unmentionable. At least the man hadn't called him "Garlic," like the Genesis's Nepleslian quartermaster. What a waste, these fanciful titles. No matter. It spoke to Sir Alexander's character that he announced himself in such a manner. The only one truly important came at the end: "Justiciar of the Order of Right." Respected and cocksure, clearly.

"This order of yours, is it military or police?" He doubted such a land possessed paramilitary operatives, but then again it had dragons so there was no telling what they might or might not possess.

Alex tilted his head slightly at the question, as if confused. It took him a moment to come up with an answer and when he did he laughed it with bravado, "Paladin, my dear sextraped. Military are too tied to their crowns and police to dogged to their laws. The Order of Right follows only what is just that: Right," he gave a little nod to accentuate it.

Then looked over the others there, "Oh but you're new aren't you?" he said it as if only just realizing, though he'd told them of the babel stones' quirk as if he'd already assumed such. "Well, no need to worry over the politics then" he shook his head grinning back to Rüd. "You'll pick it up eventually. For now I bet you're starving."

"Wait, no, hold up there! I mean, not that we aren't starving, but if you only follow 'what's right,' then who are you accountable to?" Linda 213 cuts in, looking still perturbed (if less so) as the babel stone's invasive nature. In the layer upon layer of bureaucracy and surveillance in the Eternal Empire, for people to simply act unsupervised according to their own judgment seemed appallingly short-sighted.
