The honest truth was that Gwen never really believed in wishes, or fairy tales, or even superstitious stuff, so the moment she made her wish, it was gone from her mind. Instead, she had found a nice, comfortable spot next to Anming, perhaps the first person here in Destiny City that she could call a friend, even though their one, and only, outing had ended up being separated. Her mind immediately moved on to that, looking at her and speaking her question without a moment's thought or hesitation.

"So how the heck did you manage to get back to class?" Then a pang of guilt hit her, and she asked, all of it showing through her voice. "You didn't get into too much trouble, did you?"

Gwen was more thankful to see that she had gotten out of the experience alive, but there was no need to question Anming about that, since she was obviously here, alive and well. 'Anming is a lot stronger than she thinks... slipping away from that weird thing so quickly. I'll have to keep an eye on her.'

She caught the larger meteor from the corner of her eye, startled by the size of it but not really paying too much attention to it. So long as they weren't 'Armageddon' sized meteors, Gwen had nothing to fear from such a thing. 'Maybe I'll be lucky and it'll land on St. Mag's... no school tomorrow!'

"Ah, well..."

Anming couldn't exactly tell the truth, and, while she knew this question was bound to have come up, she still felt bad for having to lie.

"I guess in all the commotion, the monster was too busy not to attack, so I managed to get away and make it to school," she told Gwendolyn, "I got in a little bit of trouble, but I'm not normally late, so it wasn't too bad."

Looking skyward once more, Anming couldn't help but also notice the bright meteor in the sky, looking as if it was getting bigger. ... She worried just a little that it was potentially a sign of danger, but otherwise dismissed it. No one else seemed too worried, from what she could see, after all!

"We aren't?" He questioned, with a tilt of his head. True, he didn't like to be indoors all the time. But he wasn't the most active person either, he did run and he certainly was no slouch when it came to his night time activities, but the fact remained he was content to be in a mall or at home or even locked up in his green house.

Knowing that giggle he prepared himself for whatever reason she had for being late in arriving from the parking lot, and he wasn't disappointed in how silly it was. "I see, well then I can excuse that. Next time I wouldn't mind seeing you and Eamon sing together, I'm sure it was quite the duet." Smiling as he grabbed a plate to load up, with things he didn't need to heat, he asked Lily then to grab his wallet from his back pocket and put some money into the collection.

"Oh?" He asked, taking a glance around and wondering just who her friends were. "I'll join you when you greet them?" He asked, unsure if he should stand at her side when she spoke to them. To be honest he knew none of Lily's other friends, aside from hearing their names. He knew none personally or by sight. So maybe this was a chance to at least be able to put a face to names now. While it was an appealing idea, and something so simple, he felt it proper to ask anyway just on the off chance his added presence may not be wanted by anyone.

Lily laughed, "Oh I was just ... oh nevermind Alex." She hadn't meant it like literally, but she had been to a lot of destiny events and the turn out was usually amazing even if know of them had really ended well. Only one she hadn't had problems with was prom, but she had heard about that situation.

Her laughter continued as Alex happily excused her being in the car singing with Eamon. "It was quite the solo really. I kept messing up because I couldn't stop laughing. I never really heard Eamon do that before. I wonder if Cadha would do it too." She had tears in her eyes from the laughter, "of course I would manange to pick a musical dog from the shelter."

She got Alex's wallet to add money to the collection before doing the same with her own wallet still giggling slightly.

Lily stopped laughing when Alex asked about meeting her friends and nodded, "um yeah sure why not? I'm sure they'd love to meet my best friend and brother." She smiled at Alex, "well lets go then I want to enjoy the show, relax a little Alex."

Gigi sat up, pulling the picnic rug up around her into a cocoon and hugging her knees. The show was spectacular, she hadn’t imagined there could be so many meteors in the sky at one time. It was a little sad, though, to think that they were all hurling themselves into the Earth’s atmosphere to burn up.

“Whoa, cool!” she gasped as the brighter light descended. That one must look pretty intense through the telescopes. It looked so close, but that must be some trick of the atmosphere, she guessed. There were probably books about it. She spared a glance to the people around her, trying to spot other Meadowview students. Maybe she could write her essay about this, if no-one else had the same idea first.

The waving arms certainly got Tomlin's attention, and the cat twisted to give the young woman a lazy yawn over his shoulder. He knew what those gestures meant, they translated very well into Cat - ‘this is the best seat in the house, make yourself at home’. Or rather, if she was so frantic that he shouldn’t be here, it was the only place he wanted to sit.

Tomlin tensed a little when the second young woman made her way over – two against one wasn’t fair – but the gentle fingers scratching his ear were more than welcome and he settled again, momentarily confident that he’d be allowed to keep his perch. It was a ruse, he realised, as the woman picked him up. The guardian hated being lifted without warning, hated the trapped and helpless feeling it gave him, but he had no more time than to give an alarmed hiss before he was set down again onto the grass. He disappeared under the red-and-white tablecloth, lurking sullenly.

As soon as those legs moved away, he’d head back up, he thought. But even from the ground, obscured by table draperies, the strange bright meteor was in clear view. Was this the finale of the meteor shower, he wondered, distracted by the sight.

Aithne had noticed the meteor shower while she was taking a break from college work. Intrigued, and bored, she'd wandered down to the park only to find it crowded with people. Small fires blazed in barrels and the picnic tables were covered in food. For a moment, the girl was puzzled. But then a passing woman, who had a megaphone, was screaming something about the Astronomy Club.

A flash of sandy blond in her peripheral, sent Aithne spinning on her heel. Carnelian? Here? She hoped not. That was the last person that she wanted to see now. People said that if you were the first person to make a wish on a falling space-object, then your wish would come true. Aithne didn't particularly believe in such tales, but the appeal of wishing Carnelian away was tempting...

Suddenly something bright blazed in the sky and she felt first, utter fascination. And then, she felt a rather inexplicable fear. Perhaps it was an omen, a sign or a warning. Perhaps it was just her imagination.

Arian thought he noticed a familiar looking girl staring up at the sky nearby, although it was hard to be sure what with the rug around her head and shoulders. After a few minutes of hesitation, the dark-haired teen walked over from his own blanket . “Miss Gigi?” Hopefully it was his curly-haired friend from school. It would be horrendiously embarassing if she turned out to be a complete stranger.

Guen loitered at the edge of the picnic. She'd been late, as usual, but she didn't mind that most people had already grouped up to watch - she'd dragged along her homework to keep busy. She'd found herself increasingly behind on schoolwork but at the same time could no longer stand the stifling solitude of her room. She needed to GO OUT, and the astronomy club's get-together seemed the perfect opportunity. She glanced up a few times from her notes when she heard particularly loud 'ooohs' and 'aaahs', but otherwise seemed oblivious -until people began to murmur uncomfortably.

Searching the sky, she was immediately struck by the sight of a oddly large looking something hurtling toward the city at alarming speed. That was an awfully big meteor, wasn't it? Astronomy was not a strong subject for her - but guessing by the unease of the crowd, she wasn't the only one taken aback.

So she did the only logical thing any teen would do when faced with the unknown: she snapped a picture with her cell phone. Cool.

Peter scoffed lightly when Iouri started playing nice with Haven, the obnoxious girl from across the street. Great, that's just what he needed. For her to crowd him while he was trying to take a good look at the meteors...

He would have made a comment about Haven wishing for the meteor to hit her house, but held his tongue when he realized it would probably hit his, as well.

"I didn't run into you, you ran into me!" he backtracked, grumbling and pouting as Iouri helped Haven with his telescope. "Can't you go somewhere else? Like... on the other side of the park?" But that would be much too nice, wouldn't it? And he was obviously not having the best of luck.

"And if it's nothing to worry about, why do you keep bringing it up? You could have just ignored it and then no one would ever even notice, but now that you keep saying not to worry, it draws attention to it and inadvertently makes people worry," Peter pointed out, and then shrugged. "Just saying."

———————————————————————

Yeah, right... it was no big deal. As long as Paris said it was no big deal then he supposed he would try to think of it as... not a big deal. There were a lot more important things to worry about other than birthdays and when people were turning eighteen and things like that.

Chris groaned lightly upon the announcement that he would be having dinner with Paris and their mothers the following evening... and most likely Peter as well. "Well, that's nice of you to clue me in," he grumbled, strumming the strings of his guitar some more, although trying to keep it out of Paris's way as he leaned against him.

Dinner with his mother wouldn't be horrible, but with Peter there, being the little brat that he was to him... well, it was going to be a pain in the butt.

Annabel, on the other hand, wasn't at all interested in the meteor shower. She was more interested in the cat she'd caught sight of! Jumping to her feet, she yipped in excitement at the orange feline that had disappeared under the table, trying to get to the other animal before it escaped. Unfortunately, she was on a leash... but that didn't mean it was impossible for her to escape!

"Anna! Stop that!" Chris snapped, hoping that Paris had hold of the leash. Although... something about the cat had seemed familiar... Not that he caught a good look at it, but still.

Paris rolled his eyes at Chris’s obvious lack of enthusiasm in regards to his birthday dinner, though he was pretty sure he knew what the cause of it was.

“I told you about it last week,” he responded. “Weren’t you listening? I thought you said you remembered my birthday.”

He wasn’t upset, or even all that annoyed. For the most part, his birthday was usually just another day to him, at least after his mother had left. She’d tried to continue making it special by coming to see him on the 18th every year, but he’d never enjoyed it very much and would rather have done nothing at all. This year had the potential to be a little different now that he’d decided to forgive her and let go of his childhood bitterness. He thought it might actually be nice to have dinner with Chris and their mothers, even if Chris’s little brother happened to tag along.

Paris’s attention switched to the dog when he felt her leash jerk in his hand. He tightened his grip on it so she couldn’t get very far, but something had obviously gotten her excited. He glanced over at the picnic tables she was barking at some distance away, and gave the leash a gentle tug to encourage her back onto the blanket.

“Come here, you,” he said, crawling over to grab her around the torso and drag her over to he and Chris—not a difficult task at all, considering she wasn’t a huge dog. “There’s nothing to get excited about. What, you wanna go for a walk?”

He spared a glance at the picnic tables again and spotted a cat there, but from this distance he couldn’t make it out clearly enough to identify it. “It’s just a cat, Anna. Come on, you don’t act like this with Sassy.”

Haven was very impressed to meet an adult who actually worked in a museum. In fact, she was so impressed that she was easily able to ignore the fact that Peter was still standing right there being an eye sore, and her mood improved a little bit as she turned to make use of the telescope, twisting the ring as she’d been instructed until the night sky above them came into focus.

“No, I didn’t make a wish, ‘cause it’s not gonna come true anyway,” she said matter-of-factly. “There’s not really anything I want, either. Except for Peter to stop being a butthead.”

If she wasn’t currently distracted by what she was viewing through the telescope, Haven might have reached over to give Peter a little shove, but she knew better than to do things like that in front of adults, and the meteors were much more interesting than her mutual antagonism with Peter Gallo.

“Whooaa,” she observed with delight, noting the rather big, bright one that still seemed as if it was drawing closer. “I didn’t think there’d be any big ones like that. I just thought they were gonna be dinky things, but I wanted to see it anyway, especially since tonight’s not a school night. I don’t think it’ll do anything, ‘cause no one said anything about it, and if the Earth was gonna get hit by something big, they’d have talked about it on the news aaaallll daaaay looooong, like they do about everything.”

"Yes, of course you picked a musical dog. Perhaps we should see if we can't get Eamon to do it again, so I can hear." He really did hope Cadha wouldn't be musical as well, two such dogs might be a bit much. "I'm hoping Cadha doesn't share interests with me, painting or gardening." The first one because it would lead to many baths being given to Cadha and the second because he didn't want his dog near, and possibly eating, something that could be very bad for his health. "I'm hoping he's as normal as a dog can be."

Watching as Lily donated the money he slipped his wallet back and nodded his head. "I figure it's about time I put faces to names, so I have some clue of who your talking about. It's better than blank faces." This said while nodding his head and motioning Lily to follow as he lead the way back, to where he'd previously been watching the stars from.

Micah was late. Again. She'd been so thrown off by her power up and by Lesath's betrayal that... oh everything was just so jumbled in her head. She'd even forgotten her picnic, specially prepared, and had to turn around and get it. Hence her lateness. She'd packed for a few people, however, looking around, it was growing painfully obvious that she knew almost no one there.

Almost.

The little head of red hair caught her attention. And then after her the blonde head of the man she called her boxing coach came into view. As she counted the heads she decided that she had enough food and wandered over.

"Master," Micah grinned, bowing deeply to Millie before she straightened and playfully punched Jett's shoulder. "Teach. Other three stranger." Micah grinned and wiggled her fingers in greeting. "I seem to have brought too much food, you guys. Is it cool if I shared with you?

Every night Ainsley looked at the sky longingly dreaming of the minute she was up dancing among the stars but it wasn't every night that the stars shoot across the sky in an attempt to reach her. The minute the meteor shower had begun, Ainsley's attention was glued onto the sky with fascination.

Everyone who had gathered in the park seemed to have a wish ready to be made tonight but this child did not. There were plenty of things she would love to wish for but were any of them suitable to use on such an occasion? She'd have a birthday in the next week and she'd get a wish then too but she got one of those every year. Her wish had to be perfect, and her mind was caught between two. It wasn't two wishes, but instead it was more like a double-sided coin.

Ainsley couldn't decide on a wish and the meteor shower wouldn't last forever, would it? The child couldn't imagine why she hadn't decided on her wish before she'd come out here! Maybe it was the fact she had spent several days trying to decide and she still hadn't settled on what her wish would be. Her heart felt heavy while she thought of it but when her eyes locked onto the sky to find the big bright light calling to her she felt like her heart was flying. Perhaps instead of thinking so hard, Ainsley just had to look at the sky and wish for the first thing that came to her mind.

"I wish to find my prince charming." She thought as her fingers laced between another. A fairytale wish for a fairytale sight.

Millicent nodded, thinking. Maybe the earth would be a lot better if she would stay on it instead of going and becoming a Jedi up in space…but she didn’t just want to get rid of that hope. “All right. Maybe I’ll stay here on earth then, Jett.”

She looked up, smiling as she saw one of her Padawans come up. It was Micah! The child laughed when she bowed to her and gave a little duck of her head in return. At the mention of food, she brightened. “I’m really hungry! Yeah! Come sit down! These are all of my friends…” She seemed surprised that the other girl knew Jett, but went on anyway. “This is Raven, and Candice…and that green haired guy! They’re all really nice!”

-------

Raven looked up at the newcomer and gave a little nod and a smile. “Hey. Nice to meet you…as Millie said, I’m Raven.” She glanced to Jett, giving a little bit of a look, then held out a hand to Micah. “Come take a seat, everything looks really pretty, and it looks like there’s a huge a** meteor coming right towards us. Kinda fun to think about, right?”

The girl was kind of pretty, she supposed. But she wasn’t a big fan of the hair. No, it reminded her of Acuben’s new hairstyle, and all that did was put an unpleasant feeling into her stomach. Stupid Acubens.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 21, 2012 6:47 pm

Jett glanced up, seeming a bit surprised by Micah's presence. "Hey," he greeted Micah, somewhat suspiciously when she and Millicent recognized each other. The punch was enough to draw attention to his arm, though it wasn't quite enough to really hurt in any way. He hadn't expected such a turnout of people he recognized, though meeting up with so many of them at once was a nice reminder that they were all still alive.

He gave Raven a look, flashed her a charming smile, as if to proclaim absolute innocence, and then finally turned his gaze to the meteor. Which was not fun to think about, Raven. "So," he said, now too interested in the meteor to look at Micah as he addressed her, "What brings you out here tonight? I didn't take you for much of a stargazer."

The one shooting star continued to draw nearer. There was a streak in the sky of its trailing fire as it burned in the atmosphere. Despite the meteor burning up somewhat in Earth’s atmosphere, it hardly seemed to diminish in size at all. Or rather it was burning much slower than most had anticipated. The meteor was drawing in at an angle and soon enough it was passing through the sky, or plummeting rather, very near to the crowd. The meteor itself broke down to be roughly the size of an exercise balance ball. It was large enough that the crowed gathered in the park could see it fall down just a mile or two away into the park and disappear beyond the trees. When it hit the ground everyone could feel a vibration in the ground below that signified its impact. For a small object, it was likely to have made a decent sized crater.

It seemed a meteor did strike the Earth. It was not nearly as devastating as some might have expected. Some would be pleased they knew it’s be harmless while others are bubbling with excitement that the object from space fell so near to them. While everyone was entranced by their not-so-near collision with a real meteor, there was something else going on that would leave a far more devastating impact then the crater.

As the meteor had trailed above the spectators, something unusual happened though it was hardly visible to the naked eye. Small pieces of the meteor burned and broke off in microscopic chunks that it created a trail of barely there dust. This dust had been coming off the meteor and into the air around the city and park. Eventually it’d come into contact with everything, people were going to breathe it in and not even notice.

Guardian cats in the vicinity, however, could sense a strange power that they could not quite place.
