I do not have money to purchase a dinner, and I cannot ask Alexander for such a favor. I am not certain that I should accept such a favor if he offers it. On one hand food...food would be delicious. He had not thought about food until now, but now that he was thinking about it he remembered that he was hungry and who knew what sorts of fare they might find.

But to take advantage of the zomboil's kindness? He could not do it. If he offered, if he offered he would accept, he had carried the zomboil all the way to the maul after all. But if he did not Yin simply would not pick anything out and could hunt back at the dorms. So his answer was tactful. "I shall be pleased to accompany you as you go to acquire food." There, now the zomboil would not feel responsible to feed him as he had mentioned nothing about him eating.

And so the pair of boils ventured out of the store. As they had not passed anything that had resembled food Yin felt it was safe to keep going in the same direction. Thankfully the crowd had thinned slightly while they had been shopping, though it was still fairly busy.

((Hey Alex~ There may be something there that wasn't there before~ /slain forever)) ((7,259 words as of this post))

The wording.

Alex caught it.

He pursed his lips still looking at Yin but not giving the other boil a response. He'd just get them to the food court, and once they were there he might just insist that the weremantis eat something. Alex was pretty sure he'd never actually seen Yin eat anything in all the times they had hung out together. Alex had never run into him in the cafeteria, and really, the other boil was a little on the skinny side, which unlike Alexander, he should not have been.

"I...I don't think it's too far really." He frowned, trying to remember where in the Maul they actually had to travel to, to find some decent food.

As they walked along together, Alex eyed the stores on either side of them. He had to fight the urge to meander towards the book store, Bards and Owls, as they passed it, and he gave another store named "S & M" a good head tilt as they wandered on past, shaking his head in puzzlement at some of the very odd things on display there.

All in all they walked in what was becoming, for Alex at least, a very uncomfortable silence. He needed to say something, but what? Nothing particularly clever was coming to mind as they continued on, hand in hand. Perhaps he should ask Yin more questions about his culture? Really, it wasn't like they had anything else to talk about...right? There really wasn't anything on Alex's mind at allll...

"Ok, so, what kind of foods do they eat where you're from? Do you have a particular staple food?" He prompted, giving the weremantis a smile, probably more to assure himself things were still fine between them.

Also this might help in figuring out where to eat once they actually got to the food court.

There seemed to be a store for everything. Yin did not really concentrate on signs, they took too long to decipher and he did not want to stop in the middle of the walk to try to puzzle them out. But there was a shop for books. A shop for shoes. A shop for...leather and metal things? With scandalous mannequins that caused him to quickly turn to look at the other side of the maul. And at another shoe store. How many shoes could one need? Alexander found no need for shoes, and he barely had a covering on his own.

But then there was a shop he was interested in, and he had just figured out the last word was closet, Out of the Closet, when Alexander broke the silence, drawing the attention back to himself. "Hm? Oh food? We eat meat." That answer seemed painfully inadequate, but it was the simple truth.

He cocked his head to the side thinking of what else he could say. "This is not particularly about mantodae staples, but since I have been at the school I have eaten primarily rats." He grimaced in remembrance. "Just...normal rats for now. No more giant ones. I eat in the cafeteria about once a day however. I wish that my room would support a fire, it would be much nicer to cook the rats, but raw rats are alright."
PostPosted: Sat Jan 21, 2012 10:37 pm

Alex nodded at Yin's first response, but he'd already known that they ate meat. What he was really wondering is if they ate anything else.

He stopped dead in his tracks at Yin's second answer though, and looked down at him sharply. "You mean that's all you eat? One meal a day and some rats on the side? Yin that's...that's just..really unhealthy!" he exclaimed. No wonder he'd never run into Yin at the cafeteria before! "You train everyday, you should be eating much more then that." He frowned.

He really wasn't trying to upset the other boil, not at all, but his concern for his friends health outweighed any concern for what Yin might consider rudeness on Alex's part.

Ok, so he was a little concerned he might upset Yin, so instead of leaving it there, he continued on. "Look, you are what you are, a mantodae. I am what I am, and that's a zombie. I was raised in a large family, a very large family. It's what many others would call a horde, Yin, and we look after each other. You are my friend, and by proxy, that makes you a part of my horde. I will make sure you are well taken care of, and that means, you will let me buy you dinner."

Ok, so much for waiting until they were actually in the foodcourt for Alex to insist. But really! How could he just let such a thing like this slide? And Alex, if nothing else, could be incredibly stubborn if he wanted to be.

Let this be a test of wills!

Yin was surprised when Alex halted, not actually noticing until he realized that the hand he was holding had stopped moving. He turned back toward the other boil in confusion, strangely hurt by the look the boil was giving him. "I am a decent hunter," he mumbled, but the zomboil just kept going with his lecture. Yin began to glance from side to side, hoping that no one was paying attention to the outburst, feeling painfully inadequate and fairly embarrassed.

And now he was telling him that because he was a friend it was almost like he was part of his family, which was a bit ridiculous but still sent a warm feeling spreading through the mantodae even though his hand should have been cold. And insisting that he let him buy him dinner. There. Someone was staring at them.

"Okay, I shall let you purchase dinner for me," he said quickly as soon as the zomboil let him get a word in edgewise. "Can we please just go now?" Being the center of attention was not exactly what he wanted in life. If it would shut Alexander up than he would agree to it now and worry about adding it to his tab later.

Yin's words did shut Alex up, and very quickly at that. The zomboil smiled at his friend and said simply "Good." Before beginning to shuffle along again.

He could tell they were getting close to the food court by the sudden influx of smells in the air. Most were pleasant to the zombie, but some made him wrinkle up his nose in distaste.

"Would you rather go to a restaurant? I know there's at least one here. Or do you just want to get something quick? I'm just, not really much of a fan of fast food, and the restaurant will have a better selection " It was true, fast food was generally a zombies worst nightmare, but it was more the fact that in a lot of those shops they liked to put things between bread or add vegetables or just.. thoroughly cook the Jack out of everything which Alex did not particularly enjoy. This wasn't to say that Alex didn't eat anything but meat. In fact, he really really liked candy as well! But what Halloweener didn't enjoy candy?

And then, they had reached the food court. There were lineups outside of every food shop, and a multitude of tables for sitting at, not unlike a very large cafeteria. To one side, in a much larger area, there were doors leading into a place called 'Dave and Busted', which was the restaurant Alex had had in mind. He just needed to know what Yin wanted to do.

Restaurants Yin knew. Fast food? Not so much. Was fast food the same as vending stalls? Yin had once had his mentor purchase a rat-on-a-stick for him from a vending stall when Yin had gone on an errand with him, but other than that Yin had not had money to purchase anything. Most boils did not until they reached adulthood.

He mulled over it until the food court was in sight, nose being assaulted by various scents. Many were the scents of meat, of food, and those as usual were particularly strong, but then they were mixed with things, the results meaning that some smelled good, others strange, and some like he wanted absolutely nothing to do with them.

He frowned slightly. "Are not restaurants more expensive than the vendors? A basic meal would suffice for me." But Alexander seemed to be hinting strongly at going to the restaurant so he hurried to assure him that that was fine with him as well. "It is your option Alexander, as you are the one expending money on the meal. I am sure I can find something to eat no matter where we go."
PostPosted: Sun Jan 22, 2012 1:36 pm

Alex just waved off the 'restaurants are more expensive comment' with a wave of his free hand, that was incidentally still holding a small bag with his purchase from the Worst Buy store. "It's all relative. I have the money, so I'm not going to worry about the price. My mother just keeps sending it to me, anyways, without me even asking."

He paused, then looked around the food court again, eyes sweeping the different shop names and really, not finding any that would be suitable to his tastes. "Ok, restaurant it is then!" he smiled happily, and began moving towards it, with Yin in tow? (hard to tow what moves much faster then you, Alex)

He pushed his way through the double doors, only to be greeted by a hostess, who gave them a large, razor tooth filled grin. "For two?" She asked, glancing down at their hands, which reminded Alex it was probably time to let go again, so he did so, in a very casual manner.

"Yep!" he replied with a grin of his own, and the hostess turned, menu's in hand.

"This way please."

The restaurant was busy, but not too horribly so. Families didn't come here with their scarelings, opting to go to the Chucky Cheese on the opposite side of the Maul which was directed more for the very young Halloweener. The result was that they would get to enjoy a much quieter atmosphere.

"Here we are!" She held a clawed hand out to a round table with two chairs, putting the menu's down in each place while waiting for Alexander and Yin to sit before continuing. "Anything I can get you to drink before the server see's to you?"

Alex mulled that over for a time. He didn't really need to drink anything, though there were some things he enjoyed the taste of. In the end he just shook his head. "No, thank you, I'm alright."

The hostess ghoul then turned her attention to Yin, waiting for an answer from him as well.

((Way to act like a rich b*****d Alex :/ ))

Yin trailed slightly after Alexander as he tried to figure out where they were headed to until it was obvious and then sped up just enough that he reached the doors a half pace ahead of the boil to open them for him, but there was no way for him to open the second set of doors in time and the zomboil had already pushed them open for himself.

Greeting them was a female with a rather admirable set of teeth which she revealed in a wide smile. Teeth like that could take a boil's head right off, Yin reflected nervously, fingers twitching now that Alexander had pulled his hand away. He no longer had to fear getting lost but it was a comforting feeling when faced with that horrifying grin. Did she just glance at his neck?

He made sure that Alexander stayed between him and the ghoul, which was not very brave in the least but those teeth...those teeth. Then she was gesturing for them to sit and Alexander took one seat, leaving him to go around the ghoul and sit on the other side. And she was waiting. She was waiting on him to be seated. He skirted around her, carefully not to accidentally brush her unless it set her off. This was ridiculous, he should not be frightened of this ghoul. So he sat down, thinking that all would be well and good until she asked if she could get them anything.

Yin was not accustomed to waiters, but all that he had seen were male. And now there was a female asking to bring him something. She worked here of course, and it was her job, but it made him uneasy. Very uneasy. He waited for Alexander to answer, figuring that he could just tell her to bring him the same thing. It would not be too much trouble to get one more of something that she was already getting.

But then the zomboil ordered nothing and he was now the one under her full scrutiny. And his mouth was completely dry. He was forced to clear his throat before he could croak out his own "no, thank you Miss." He then promptly busied himself by grabbing the menu to look at it, staring at it while he waited for her to leave before slowly realizing that the words made no sense. Because they were upside down. Flipping it around he opened it, hoping that looking at it would be a good distraction for both him and Alexander.

There were so many options. He stared at the top of the left page, mouth moving silently as he began to work out the first word. Ap...pet...iz...er...Ap-pet-iz-er? It has pet in it, perhaps these are minipet dishes?

Alex gave Yin a funny look when he didn't order anything to drink for himself. "Are you sure?" He asked the weremantis "I guess if you change your mind, you could always ask the server for something later."

The hostess was walking away, presumably to inform their server that he or she had a new table, and to take up her post next to the doors again. Alex slid the menu to himself, and opened it up, eyeing the different selections. He was rather hungry (as usual) so he began scanning the appetizers for something appropriate. His eyes stopped on something called "The meat lovers platter." That was described as being an assortment of meats and parts from several different animals, perfect for the 'ravenous devourer of all things meat.'

Well, that sounded promising for a starter!

He smiled to himself and continued on, pretty much knowing already what he would prefer for his main course. They just did not serve any decent brains in the school, and he missed the taste of the ones his mom always prepared back home. The restaurant's brain dish would likely be far superior to that of the school, but probably not nearly as good as he could get back home.

Well, in this case, beggers couldn't be choosers (lol, begging? what's that?) and Alex made his decision before the Server felt the need to grace them with his or her presence.

"Do you know what you want?" prompted Alex, watching Yin read over his menu.

The weremantis stored away the information for later, planning on requesting a glass of water from their waiter as soon as possible. For some reason there was a lump in his throat and he could barely swallow. He had not been thirsty until the subject was brought up, but now he craved liquid refreshment.

By the time the zomboil asked Yin if he knew what he wanted he was reading his fifth menu item, had the beginnings of a headache, and had more questions than he had answers.Things like "poppers" which contained "jal-ap-e-nos" stuffed with "chee-se" and were breaded literally seemed like foreign objects to him. Apparently there was also a hell version of them made with some sort of ghost pepper. It really just made no sense.

At least the spinach dish had been easy to pass by.

So the answer was...he had no idea what he wanted. He had so little of an idea that he could not even fake knowing what he wanted. and he was still in to top third of the first page of the menu. "What are you getting?" he asked, voice slightly high as he tried not to reveal how much he was mentally panicking. Just...turn the question on the other boil. It was a good plan.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 22, 2012 4:33 pm

"Well Iiiiiii" He flipped his menu open once again, and pointed, "Am going to get the meat lovers platter to start. It's uh..meant for more then one person, so it should be pretty big. You can have some of it if you want?" He shrugged, pretty sure he could manage to eat it all himself, but happy to share. "And then I'm getting brains served fluffed in the skull for my main course."

After saying it, he wondered if Yin had ever eaten brains. Probably not, though. It seemed to be exclusive to only a few different races.

He almost wanted to ask Yin if he needed help with finding something, but he had a feeling that it might not go over very well so he just sat back and waited.

It wasn't long before the server made his appearance, giving the two of them a look that said 'I just want to finish so I can go home. Please tell me you don't plan on sitting here all night.' before asking out loud. "Have you decided on anything?"

Alex found the servers abruptness to be quite rude and mentally began lowering the tip amount he might leave at the end of the meal.

Since Alexander was not answering Yin looked up at the server, grateful that it was a boil. "May I please have a glass of water?"

The waiter shot him a look that seemed to say quite clearly "are you kidding me?" but jotted it down. "Do you want anything else?"

As a matter of fact he did. But he had no idea of just what that was. At the last second a genius idea struck him. "What would you recommend for a meat eater?"

The waiter tried not to roll his eyes. "We have steak, ribs, and if you are feeling adventurous we have a bone-in surprise. You never know what kind of meat you are going to get or how it will be seasoned or cooked but it will be meat and on a bone." This was all said in a bored drawl.

"I shall try the surprise," Yin answered after a moment of thought. Who knew what he even liked, he might as well just go for something on the list, and steak was a prime cut of meat and likely expensive. He then all but shoved the menu at the waiter as if it had personally offended him.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 22, 2012 10:08 pm

Alex graced the waiter with a cold smile, not at all impressed with his lack of professionalism thus far. "I'll get the meat lovers platter to start, and bring two plates with it." he said, rather firmly. "And then the brain special main course thing...whatever." He muttered, as the waiter gave him a long suffering look that seemed to say 'really, the zombie getting brains? That's original'.

He handed the waiter his menu, though what he really wanted to do was throw it at his stupid head.

And now they had to wait.

Alex began tapping the index finger of his right hand on the table, eyes shifting about the restaurant. He should probably think of something to talk about, right? Maybe he should take this time to ask Yin yet more questions about his culture..or let Yin know more about his family, so that he wouldn't be too overwhelmed when he went with Alex for a visit. But for some reason, whenever he went to say something, he just clamped his mouth shut again, not able to break the ice.

Speaking of ice, here came that stupid waiter again, to drop off Yin's water.

"Your starter should be out shortly." He quipped, before turning and walking away.

Alex just shook his head. "That guy..is a royal Jack hole."

Yin had never eaten with the zomboil and when he began looking around, seemingly interested in anything but Yin, the mantodae began to wonder if perhaps zombies did not talk during meal times. So he kept his mouth shut, first glancing around and then staring down at Alexander's finger drumming the table, his own tapping a light rhythm on his knee.

The waiter brought water and Yin thanked him, but not before he noticed the ice. Mantodae rarely had ice of any form, it was exceedingly rare and had little use. He tended to avoid putting it in his drinks, preferring not to consume too many cold things. He almost pointed it out to Alexander, who might have some interesting things to say about ice seeing as how cold he always was, but the boil seemed slightly out of sorts.

That was confirmed when he said a rather nasty comment about the waiter.

Was it because he spoke during the mealtime? Yin did not know but he also did not want to find out the hard way that he was not supposed to talk. Instead he reached out for his glass, taking a sip of the chilling water and then another one before setting the glass down, the light clink the glass made making the silence even more awkward than it had been.
