Everything just stopped. It completely and utterly stopped. The dancers seemed to vanish. The music and noise suddenly quieted. Most of all, the calm that had settled upon Crysta flew out the window. Her blue eyes widened to the size of teacups as a light just seemed to click on behind them. She lifted her hands to her mouth, the fingers curled up to keep her lips from parting. Of course that didn't quiet smother the 'EEEEEEEEE' trembling in the back of her throat. Crysta began to lightly bounce up and down on her toes, as if the effort to keep her squeal of delight quiet was causing some sort of backup that threatened to make her explode if she didn't expel it in some way. Crysta's bouncing only grew more pronounced when Aphrodite approached her and Jayke with that wink of her's. When Jayke would question her about knowing the person in pink, the floodgate broke. Crysta removed her hands from her lips and reached to grab Jayke by the shoulder. "Ohmigodits her! Sheshereshesheresheshere!" She babbled in her excitement. Crysta looked at Jayke happily. "It'sAphrodite! Itsheritsheritsher!" Crysta, unthinking as was her way, attempted to thrust Jayke towards Aphrodite. Thankfully she had enough control to keep her voice lowered. Unlike when she declared to the whole party that she was about to kiss Jayke and all. "See! Isn't she as pretty as I said! How can't you know it's her!" Her words were finally slowed enough to be pronounced independently, though she still rambled along quickly. "This is Jayke! He's really cool! Make him magic puuuuuhleeeeeeeeeese! I know you said only special people could but he's special! Specially special! I just know it! I'm right aren't I? You know right right?" She eagerly spoke while looking eagerly at Aphrodite.

By the time Nathan managed to work his way through the crowd to where Nari and Nicohlas stood, the kiss had been delivered. He didn't give a single damn about making a scene. Nor did he give a damn about the look Nari shot at him. Immediately Nathan reached to take Nicohlas chair by the handle and pulled him towards him. "What were you thinking?" He found himself snapping at Nari. "Letting him pass under that thing? He's too young for this party. I knew it. I never should have agreed to this." Nathan's eyes dropped down to Nicohlas as he reached to rather fussily attempt to smooth some of the curls on the top of his head down. Nathan's brows were furrowed into lines of worry. "I shouldn't have trusted someone else to watch out over you. We're leaving, now." He determined, his head shaking slightly as he spoke. "I am sorry Helena I just can not---" Nathan's eyes had lifted finally from Nicohlas to search out his date. Yet...where did she go? Nathan's words died in his mouth as he glanced around searchingly for his date that had mysteriously vanished.

His brother was...so...embarrassing! Nicohlas always tolerated his brothers doting and controlling nature. But tonight just made things feel sooo awkward! He wanted to roll away and hide in a corner somewhere! When Nari would lean down and place the kiss on his cheek, he flushed a little and lowered his eyes to his lap. Here it came... He could already feel the pending panic attack about to slam into him. He was fourteen already! He should have been able to handle this situation without his brother acting like he was about to...to..be violated! Nathan began to yell at his date then..well..yell wasn't the proper word for it. Nathan never rose his voice, but Nicohlas could tell that there was a tenseness to his voice that was pretty much the equivalent of yelling. He wanted to tell him to stop. It wasn't Nari's fault that they didn't see the sprig up there. His eyes flickered to Nari, expecting to see either anger or tears. Both of which were things he didn't want to see on his friends face. She was the first friend he'd made in such a long time! It wasn't right that Nathan was angry at her. At this rate she'd not be friends with him anymore and..and he wouldn't have anyone to talk with again! Nicohlas looked up at Nathan, tears starting to form in his own eyes. "It was...just...on the cheek. It was nothing. Just something silly." He tried to quietly protest as his brother looked around for Helena.

Naois missed the flash of a camera. Which was a blessing as it would have caused him to act more self-consciously afterwords. Still at ease, he moved along the line with Indigo and gave a small nod of his head. "I have to say, this is the best christmas I've had since I was little, and I have you to thank for that." Naois paused their conversation as it was their turn to have pictures taken. At the teasing on Indigo's part, Naois rose a bit to the bait and did in fact sit on the old guy's lap, he even pretended to tug on the beard for the camera before moving to the chair so he could hold Indigo in his lap. Cheerfully wrapping his arms around her middle, he smiled cheerfully at the camera over her shoulder for their pictures. When their turn was over, Naois went to collect the CD and handed it to Indigo. "Here, so you can save the pictures first. When your done I'll take it to the local Super store and have the photo department print out copies." He offered, then added. "You know, I really want to see if they have some eggnog. What about you?"

"It would be better if that was a real fire." Evan's hazel eyes danced lazily with the fake flicker of the flames. "It would be all toasty and with a possibility of smores!" He licked his lips even though he had a plateful of sweets ready for him eat. He followed his date through the crown. Not as nimbly, but not a crumb fell from his plate a sweets. He almost lost the shorter boy in the crowd of people, but he knew where they were headed. When they broke from the slew of people, Evan was glad to see that the hearth was clear and free of clutter. "I think you picked a nice spot." He sauntered over, patting a spot next to him as he sat. This was going remarkably well for a date. Evan smiled, It was a nice dater with Jinju.

"Ah," The dark skinned girl ran her fingers through her fine hair. "You must be taking about Tidal Heights Academy." She nodded, we versed in the school about her. "I thought they would have a lot to do with Ember Ridge Academy for social things." She frowned in thought. "As for me, I attend Valley High. No need or want for any other gender interaction. They are everywhere." She giggled all the way to the dance floor.

Now Mai wasn't the best of dancers, but the dance floor just seemed to match her energy! She was full of excitement as she glanced around at the people who danced elegantly and gracefully... And she watched the people who were less than elegant and graceful. "I'm not that much of a dancer," she turned to Percival placing a poised hand on his chest, "But if you're a good lead, I bet you could guide me into the right steps." She winked, sliding her hand from his chest to his shoulder. "I'm ready when you are!"

Jeremiah felt really awkward. "Sorry that I had to steal my first kiss like that but I didn't want to get kicked out and I don't think you did either. At least we got to experience another type of bromance, huh?" He was blushing slightly as he said this. Funny how that had happened. "At least we have something memorable from this dance, if nothing else eh Marlon?"

Luckily the bathroom was empty... after rushing in the last few steps she'd leaned against one of the sinks... Trying to get her breathing under control as well as her tears... She saw them dripping down into the basin one by one... Oh she felt so stupid... Stupid, stupid STUPID! How could she get her hopes up like that?! This was an arranged marriage after all... loveless... Oh how she hated it right now. But she wanted to be the dutiful daughter and make her mama and papa proud. They were such good people and they had been wonderful to her. Just this one thing... no matter how big it seemed... just the one... Looking at herself in the mirror, she couldn't really be surprised that he wasn't interested in her right? Just look at her.. Plain as plain could be... and oh those freckles over the bridge of her nose and her cheeks. How she hated them. She didn't really think that someone could ever look at her and see anything but a clumsy, awkward, bookworm did she? Reaching into her bag she pulled out a handkerchief and started to dab at her eyes... clearing away the tears.. taking a few more deep breathes she considered pressed cool paper towels to her eyes but they really hadn't turned all that red... she hadn't turned into a blubbering idiot at least and ruined her dress with tear stains... She'd managed to control herself before she got too far out of hand and in privacy... away from eyes that would question, probably look at her in mocking or even worse.... pity.... She began to finger the pendant at her throat.... "Skadi...." it was her symbol wasn't it? The goddess of winter, the shining bride of the gods... sighing heavily she'd turn and start to walk back out into the party... tucking her handkerchief away... "Ge mig styrka." give me strength in her native tongue.

Jin waited until Evan was sitting before he set his plate down. "Drinks... Um. Punch. I'm going to get some for us." Oh yeah, that came out suave. "I'll be right back." He danced off into the crowd again before realizing Evan had just invited him to sit close. ********. Oh well. He was on a mission for punch! When he secured a pair of cups of punch, he returned, a little sheepishly before setting the drinks down and sitting near Evan. "... Sorry."

There was a slight look of horror on Chisato's face when Miles stumbled away from her and under the mistletoe. That was her date after all. Who came up with the dumb enforcement rules anyways? Though she was amused at how quickly, and perhaps eagerly, he kissed the guy and ran back to her. She put her arms around his neck, partly so she wasn't off balance as she tested her ankle. Didn't seem like she twisted it. It was just a funny step.

"Having fun yet?" She teased.

She couldn't stifle the small excited 'eee' sound that escaped her when Naois handed her the CD. These were going to be great pictures. She should make one her desktop's wallpaper. Yeah! "I think this is the best Christmas ever." She agreed before he mentioned eggnog. "Ooooh yeah! We gotta scope out the goodies!" She grabbed his hand with a grin. "And you have to save me from any mushrooms."

"No, Nathan." Nari said softly after he berated her. "You're the one who isn't ready for a party like this." Her tone wasn't angry. It was more like a parent when you did something wrong, and they were letting you know just how disappointed they were in how you behaved. "Nicohlas is my date tonight, not yours." She would be surprised if Nathan still had a date tonight. "Mistletoe is part of the Christmas experience, and he deserves to enjoy it. Now, instead of a fun night out with a friend, this evening is marred with your inability to let go, for even just a moment." She looked up at him, her eyes misted just slightly. "And it's not even just Nico's night, or mine that you're ruining. You couldn't even pay half as much attention to your own date as you are to ours." Nari had half a mind to leave him right then and try and find that poor girl. She had obviously gotten all dressed up for Nathan, had wanted him to notice her. But he was so wrapped up in his own petty little world he probably hadn't even noticed. Did Nathan even remember what color dress his date wore? She doubted it.

Crysta really did seem to wear her heart on her sleeve. Aphrodite could see the clear excitement well up and start to bubble over as the three of them met. The excited girl saved her from having to introduce herself. Her features softened just a little. Crysta was a cute kid. "I told you before I can't awaken just anyone's powers. They have to be just the right sort of special." She looked between the two before continuing, not giving Crysta a chance to whine or complain that her friend here was special. "But you are correct. Jayke, you have the potential to do great things." She gestured vaguely to Crysta. "I assume you're aware of her special... talents." The way Crysta spoke, it seemed like the girl had probably shown her transformation to him.

With that, Aphrodite produced a totem bracelet. "What do you say? Would you like to try being magical?"

Marlon nodded at Jeremiah and chuckled; there was that word again; bromance. Oh if his mother and father knew about this! It would surely mean a whole new bookshelf's worth of child-rearing books for his mother and a new set of taunts for Herick. Well, so long as nobody who knew his parents had seen......there WAS some merit to being the son-who-isn't-there when your mother was moderately well-known.
Getting into the spirit of things with their close brush with being kicked out, Marlon smiled at his date and managed a wink. "You sure you don't want anything else to fall back to? A nice photograph perhaps?" He sincerely hoped his date would catch on to the joke; a picture would only raise the chances of his getting recognized by someone, though he supposed he could always pass it off as just friends goofing around.

"A-Aphrodite?" Jayke had trouble hiding his disbelief as Crysta introduced him to the strange woman. Of course he remembered how his friend had told him of her encounter with this woman and how she had given her powers, more or less. So why was he so surprised to see her standing here before him? Was it because he hadn't expected a person who did things like give children powers to hang around at a public dance? Or, he thought with a twinge of guilt, had he only partially believed his friend and presumed that her powers might have had some other explanation than some beautiful magical lady coming out of the blue and bestowing them on her? Well, she was here now, recognized by Crysta, and it only served to make the twinge sharper.

He smiled a little at the woman's words; oh Crysta was sure to have none of that! As far as his friend was concerned, he was already christened as her sidekick, or vice versa, therefore he just HAD to have some power of his own to compliment hers. If this woman had ever been pulling her leg, she would definitely regret it with Crysta. But his smile faded and was replaced with curiosity as Aphrodite spoke of Crysta's 'special powers.' He knew his friend took her secret heroic duties very seriously; not just anyone would know of it. He nodded before he could think on it any further; if anything, Crysta seemed to trust her. He had never seen her so excited to see anyone other than himself.

He looked at the totem bracelet that the woman was offering to him, his eyes widening as he soaked in the details that could be made out in the twinkling, festive lights. No precious stones or gleaming metals were to be seen, but rather it was adorned with simple beads made of bone, hard clay, and polished pebbles. Instead of a clasp, it wound around itself a few times like a winding serpent with a wire skeleton, and scattered in various places between the beads were small charms that at a glance were fashioned to look like animals. They too were made of clay, and with the color they threw back from the lights, Jayke found it easy to imagine that they had been made from the very same clay that he used back behind his house, mixing it with water and herbs in his lake shell and smearing on himself when he was communing with nature. Why, it was almost as though he himself had made it, and hadn't even realized it.

"Thank you," he said in an unusually small voice; it wasn't everyday that he received a gift that was so.....him, and from an adult no less! And though others might disagree, the bracelet did seem magical to him, like something one of the tribal elders of his past would wear around his wrist as he traveled into the wilds to commune with Mother Nature in ways that Jayke could only dream of. He rolled up his sleeve and slipped the bracelet on, admiring the way it clung to him so readily; not too loose or too tight, but just the right size. He held his arm out to Crysta to show it to her, when he suddenly felt his insides lurch, as though something had stirred inside him and wanted out.....REALLY badly. Startled, he pulled his arm back down and looked at Aphrodite with surprise and apprehension. He had felt the touch of magic before, but never something this strong and so desperate to be unchecked.

"The one and only." Percival agreeably replied. Lovely old Tidal heights. Discounting the clear lack of female numbers on the grounds, he did like the school very much. The library had so many interesting books about fruits and spices in their cooking section after all. "I am sure your school's host is full of life then. So much testosterone at mine, you could just about bottle it up!" He could not resist the small joke as they settled onto the dance floor. Percival moved his hand down to lightly rest it on Mai's hip. The other he offered to her, so he could grasp it and take the lead as she suggested. "I can't say dance is one of my studies, but it should be fun enough to just move around eh?" With a brave little smile and a encouraging wink, he started to slowly lead Mai in a basic three step circle. left, right, left and then a quarter turn. "So...what do you think of lemonade?"

Food! Naois was grinning ear to ear as he and Indigo approached the buffet table. He glanced up and down the length, purposefully looking for some sort of mushroom thing so he could tease his friend. As his eyes lit on some chocolate truffles, he picked up one of the candies and dangled it in the air between him and Indy. "Hmm...Truffles...Truffles are a kind of mushroom right?" He said with a teasing smile.

If he honestly wasn't so upset over Nicohlas having passed under the mistletoe, Nathan more then likely would have bristled at Nari. She did not understand. No one understood, or ever would for that matter. Nathan was not going to launch into a explanation to defend himself. Why? Because it did not matter. He honestly did not give a damn what anyone else thought about how he took care of his brother. He knew what was for the best and he wasn't going to waste time explaining the chain of events that would unfold from this 'innocent kiss' that had been shared. Instead he flipped his hair over the one side of his face that he typically wore it over and attempted to pull Nicohlas chair a little after him as he looked for Helena. He had a duty to escort her this evening and now she had just...run off on him. How rude. Nathan shook his head once more, then turned to Nicohlas. Utterly ignoring the chastisement he had received from Nari, he spoke softly to his brother. "Wait for me here. I am going to go find Helena, then we are going home." He determined despite the clearly pained expression of dismay on his brothers face. He didn't know what he was saving him from, but that suited Nathan fine. He twisted on the heel of one foot, and strode back into the crowd. Wandering towards one of the chaperons, he cleared his throat. "Excuse me. I seem to have gotten separated from my date. I was wondering if you have seen her. She has blond hair and blue eyes and is wearing...." What had she been wearing? Nathan blinked as his mind pulled up a blank. "..freckles...and...blond hair..." Hmmm... she had to have been wearing something.... as he was positive she would not have been allowed in wearing her normal choice of garments...

It was impossible for Nicohlas to put into words how disappointed he felt. Even after Nathan ignored Nari and stalked off into the crowd to find Helena. His eyes dropped a bit into his lap as he mumbled. "I don't think he heard a word you said...m' sorry Nari." He really did feel horrible. His brother could be so charming sometimes, but then again he could also be so cold and shut off from everyone else. At times it made him wonder if his entire niceness was a utter act. Was Nathan really just cold inside? His hand lifted to his neck where his locket laid and he began to unhappily twist it about. If Nathan had gotten magic like this, what would it reveal of him? He didn't think he wanted to know the answer to that. Nicohlas lifted his head to glance at Nari and he forced a smile to his lips that he just did not feel very sincere about. "Why don't you go get a drink or something? No reason for you to miss out on the rest of the party because of me."

She knew she should not ask, again. The answer was expected, and Crysta's joy deflated some. She wanted so badly for Jayke to join her. If nothing else, so he'd stop acting like he had to protect her. He'd understand better if he was magical she was sure. Plus, she was positive it would help him cope with his anger. She knew he was just a warrior trapped in these rules of society. If he had a way to tap into his true magical essence...well it would be like working out or something. Good for the body, mind, and soul!

So when Aphrodite would continue on, addressing Jayke then offering him the charm bracelet, well! Crysta gave a happy little squeal of excitement! "I knew it! I just knew you would be one too!" She exclaimed before attempting to grasp Jayke by his shoulders. She Smiled brightly at Aphrodite while attempting to give Jayke a shove towards the girls restroom. "I'll take it from here Aphrodite! I can teach him everything he needs to know! You'll see! We're gunna be the super bestests superheros ever!" she promised. Perhaps it was a bit of a bold presumption, but Crysta was confident that no one was going to match her or Jayke in enthusiasm or diligence! "C'mon Jayke! Let's get you changed! Hurry hurry! I wanna see your outfit!!!"

"Don't worry, Jayke." Aphrodite said when she saw the startled reaction on the boy's face. "It's all part of the process. I'm pretty sure you'll figure out what to do soon enough. Your friend here is more then happy to help." And then Crysta was shoving the boy off. "Crysta." She called after the girl. "Don't be to hasty. This is a gift for the good of everyone, not a fashion show." Besides, soon enough there would be reason for them all to transform. She just hoped they listened to her. Then again, having a few who already knew what they were doing would buy the others some time to figure things out.

The candidates for her super ultimate Christmas gifts of amazing win were dwindling. She really thought there would have been more to choose from. Her eyes flickered to the dance floor, then to the room with the treats. There were children with potential in both. However, the dance floor was too crowded at the moment. She headed to the buffet to scout the potential. There were two strong candidates on the faux hearth. Interesting.

She had no idea what was going on with Nathan, Nari and Nico and she wasn't in a big hurry to find out. Her date had run off on her after not paying any attention to her at all so to say she was a little upset was an understatement. Rolling her shoulders and holding her head high she brushed past the couple that seemed to be heading to the ladies room where she'd just been... good thing she'd decided to leave when she did... One of them was a boy and it was very odd to say the least, thinking of the young man going into the ladies room of all places! Well, maybe she was mistaken but she sure was glad she got ahold of herself when she did. Helena decided to head to the buffet, just because her date wasn't doing his duty didn't mean she couldn't enjoy herself or at least try to. She hardly thought that he'd be looking for her, too caught up in Nico she'd believed that he'd totally dismissed his date with her tonight. Waiting her turn she'd pick out a couple sweets and a glass of punch... standing off to the side she'd look out on to the dance floor, tapping her foot as she nibbled on her treats. Why not go out and dance too? The crowd was thick and she could lose herself in the bodies and in the music...all to try and salvage what dignity she had left after being dumped like an old sack by her date.

A chaperone nodded to Helena as she left the restroom, only to stop Crysta and Jayke as they approached. "Boys on the left, girls on the right."

It seems they're responsible adults. No co-ed bathrooms, no funny business.

In spite of the excitement of having been given some real magic if his own, Jayke still found himself sweating slightly as the feeling began to fade inside of him, thinking his own thoughts as Crysta's excited babbling faded to a hum. Apparently it hadn't liked him raising his adorned arm; was that part of what brought the power forth? He really ought to find someplace to try this; a place other than a crowded room full of unsuspecting dancers, other than a place that had been accommodated to house every student from every school in the city had they all cared to show.

He felt himself being shoved away from Aphrodite suddenly, and Crysta was pushing him off to the restrooms to get him to transform. "Hey wait a min- Crysta!" He looked back almost helplessly at the diminishing form of the woman, already moving elsewhere in the room, no doubt to hand out more 'gifts'. He felt absurd as she continued to shove him like a heavy box out of the noise and lights and into the quiet hallway where the restrooms were. Being in front, he saw the chaperon standing there before Crysta did, and he was relieved that she stopped before she could push him right into the burly man and poke Jayke's eye out on one of the buttons of his dressy shirt.

He looked up at the frowning face and smiled sheepishly. "Sorry mister; took a wrong turn is all." Now it was his turn to try and push Crysta away from the scowling figure and out of earshot. "Of course; what would you expect at a party full of teenagers?" He shrugged at Crysta and looked around. "I don't think there's any other place here where we can have a moment to ourselves." He tried to make his disappointment sound sincere; he had no desire to do something that seemed so personal in a place where he could easily be seen by someone he didn't want seeing him. "It's probably for the best you know; remember how you said it was so important about keeping your identity a secret? How easy would it be if the whole city saw me transform?"

Miah picked up on the joke easily enough - but he wasn't going to not agree. He really did want a picture. "I know you're just joking, but would you mind? We can only get one copy if you're embarrassed."

Miles was blushing crimson, he shook his head. "I'm mortified."

Crysta did not want to hold off on seeing Jayke's transformation. She slowed only a little on the way to the bathrooms. Yes, she knew. She understood what Aphrodite wanted her to know. Being magical wasn't just for fun. She knew that! But she soooo wanted to see what Jayke would be like! They were going to finally be partners! He could come with her and fight bad things and... "Wow your big..." Crysta's eyes rose up to look at the chaperon. Deterred from her destination, she allowed Jayke to redirect her away. At his pointing out that there would be no places of privacy, Crysta tilted her head some and pointed. "What about under the christmas tree?" She asked hopefully, but did not think that would work so well really. She looked sadly at Jayke and tried to bite down her disappointment. "It's just so exciting, I couldn't wait to transform, don't you feel the same?"

Nathan was frowning as he searched the crowd for Helena. He simply could not understand why she would vanish on him. Well..maybe he could understand. He had just walked off on her. He did understand it was hard for a girl to grasp the fact she was not the most important thing, it was just a female thing he was sure. He just could not focus enough on her, or any other girl, right now to protect the girls fragile ego. He was lucky that he had not come with Chisato! At least with Helena he had the saving grace of their betrothal to restart a dating evening with again. Nathan wandered towards the girls bathroom. Perhaps she had gone inside? Ah, but he didn't want to hang around out here, it would make him seem like some sort of panty creep or something. Huffing a little he placed a hand on his hip and looked around. perhaps...the drink bar?

It wasn't as if Evan was upset or anything. Maybe a little caught off guard when Jinju sprang into action to get them some punch. He watched as the slender boy danced through the crowd as if he was a pro at it. The blond boy sat in wait, hoping for him to return soon. It was a bit awkward sitting alone and who knows, a chaperon might look his way and give him a hard time.

Within no time Jinju was back with punch in tow. He dismissed the apology with a small wave, "There's no need to be sorry. The sweets are still here and now we have punch!" He placed the plate on his lap, handing Jinju's plate so he could take the punch from him. But before he grabbed his punch, Evan was already in the cookies on his plate, taking a large bite from the treat.

Simple enough, dancing that is. Mai kept in step, counting in her head and following the lead of Percival. She admired the circles they spun over the dance floor and the small talk they made. "I think too much testosterone can be a bad thing." She smiled, going on, "I bet you could go into business selling the stuff. Everyone and their mother would buy a bottle!" She giggled at the lame joke. And now they were talking about.... Lemonade?

"What do I think of lemonade?" Mai pondered this for a moment, coming up with a way to explain it properly. "I think that lemonade is a wonderful drink. It's refreshing and sweet and if you know how to make it just right, you could start a business." Now she sounded like she was money hungry. "I mean, I think punch can be better..." She nodded, "Your opinions on punch?" She jokingly nudged a fist into his side at the word.
