Graduation ceremonies were over and squad applications were dangerously close already, yet Sakura still had no idea where to apply or if she would even be accepted due to her shy nature, something she was determined to change by the time she would start trying for the squads. Shyness would do her no good if she were ever summoned for an interview and that was why she had been on a self-imposed journey to learn how to properly socialize. Her first step had been to observe how people interacted with one another away from prying eye and in one's element. Her quest had led her to peeping into the boys' common washroom by some twisted path only her logic could follow, but she had learned much and was more than eager to try it out after practicing alone for so long.

The young graduate had been walking around waving her asauchi while rehearsing different possible scenarios when she heard some voices coming from the field ahead. Seized by a sudden sense of uncertainty, Sakura had ducked into the nearest bush for cover, right hand still around her plain asauchi, until she spotted the small group of shinigamis that appeared to be...trying something with their arm? Hazel eyes blinked with curiosity between a few leaves at the sight before her. She was too far to assess the situation properly or make out anything they were saying. They looked far too busy anyway and some of them had some intimidating reiatsu levels, but this was the perfect opportunity to break out of her timid shell! A clique of strong looking people was indeed intimidating, but what better way to overcome one's uneasiness then to face it head on?

With a brusque movement, she stood up from amongst a healthy patch of bushes and made to approach until she was reminded of the information she had gathered from the boys' dorm. Being so stiff would do no good. A little slouch to appear more casual and more friendly. Be boisterous and smile. Yup. That was what most of the guys were doing apart from comparing some parts she did not have and with that, she sheathed her asauchi back with a loud reverberating ringing and called out to them from afar, oblivious to the fact that she may be disrupting their concentration. "Yo! What's up, guys?" Choice words she had picked up, of course. "Why so serious?"

It was only when she was a few meters away that she noticed the blood on the lieutenant's arm. Had there been a fight? The prospect unsettled her and her goofy grin dropped by a few degrees. "Is this a bad time?" she asked to no one in particular with a slight waver in her voice, looking around at all the busy shinigamis while mentally berating herself for her utter fail. They seem to be really focused on their arm for some reason. One appeared to be avoiding any talks as well. Sakura was now terribly curious, but some manners originating from her human days was keeping he mouth shut without her knowledge despite the fact that it was ruining the image she was trying to project.

As he walked by the Shinigami Academy, the newly appointed Tenth Squad Captain found himself pausing to stare at it. Waves of nostalgia washed over him. It sure seemed like such a distant past. Since his inception as a recruit to his current status as the Captain of an entire squad, something he had never even thought about, it had been a treacherous path. Certain circumstances had prevented him from going through the normal channels as a Shinigami. Still, the Academy was a place where he enjoyed normalcy. Regardless, he was a different person back then not only in looks and thoughts but also in name. ”Those were the days…”

Just as he was about to end his trip down memory lane, Jakku then noticed the presence of spiritual pressure that would suggest more than recruits were present and while he had heard his predecessor had truly monstrous reiatsu even before he became a Shinigami, such recruits were extraordinarily rare. The surge of reiatsu, followed soon by an unpleasant smell he was all too familiar with, danced on his senses. Ozone, although his experience with it was minimal, and what could easily be misconstrued as charred pork. He repressed his inner nausea as it surfaced. Surely it was only training and easily taken care of by whoever was in charge. A vague sense of curiosity still remained. Part of it was that he didn’t want to feel left out of the loop.

He had been in the World of the Living for quite some time, admittedly. Jakku did not want to eventually find out about some new tactic or ability they were teaching in the Academy while dealing with his squad. He was still a bit wishy-washy on dealing with his squad too. For all his years as a Shinigami, the one thing he never had to deal with was socializing. As far as he remembered, all the “good” captains were boisterous and bawdy or adorable and innocent. He wasn’t any of the above. If anything, he was silent and shell-shocked. He mentally shrugged; worrying over details right now would do no good. If his squad members did not like him, they were free to switch squads or challenge him. On the other hand, Jakku did not want to be known as the Captain that erased the tenth squad.

His mind was wandering again. Jakku cleared his head of all thoughts and returned to the task at hand. As a captain, he definitely had the authority to enter. While it was likely he would be the subject of much attention, and attention made him uncomfortable, he would just have to endure it. With that, he entered into the Academy, following the origin of the first reiatsu burst; he felt a general rise of spiritual energy in the area. Heading in that direction, he noticed a group of people using some sort of technique that enveloped one of their arms in spiritual energy. A large scarred man who looked Greek was the first person that drew Jakku’s attention. It only took a cursory glance to realize why; he was the origin of both the reiatsu and the smell from earlier. His next person of interest was the short woman who appeared to be instructing the others. He felt the largest reiatsu from those two among everyone present.

Jakku was unsure how to involve himself with this training group. The technique was nothing he had ever seen or heard of before and he was a Captain. On one hand, he could play along and pretend he knew what it was to save his reputation, or whatever existed of it. On the other hand, he sincerely had no idea what it was and it sure looked interesting. He mentally shook his head again while maintaining that stoicism ever present on his face and in his body language. It did not suit him to think about such petty details. Must be captaincy jitters, he still did not feel as though he deserved a position. In normal times he definitely would not be the first candidate. While standing behind the other trainees, Jakku glanced over each of them and their arms to try to understand and mimic what they were doing. He was still unsure if he was doing it right, but he did a practice visualization in his mind and let out a steady stream of reiatsu over his arm and then tightened it downward.

He realized soon that if he made a mistake, something similar to what the Grecian Shinigami had done to himself would happen to him too. He unraveled the spiritual energy around his arm and reapplied it again, constantly using the quality of some of the others as a reference point. Tightness and smoothness seemed a major part of what the others were going for and Jakku applied it himself. Soon, he felt satisfied with his own tightness, although the constriction of his energy flow felt rather… awkward. And he still did not know the purpose of it. He raised his right arm to look at his handiwork and waited for further instructions.

”Got it,” a low huff completed Jirou’s statement, testament to the fact that although he’d guided his reiatsu through the exercise relatively easily it was still more of an exertion then he’d like to admit.

_Previously_

The one-eyed man had little time to settle into the relaxed, if not mildly promiscuous, atmosphere before the Senda demonstration began. He’d returned to standing then, eye intent on the smoky black reiatsu enveloping Aine’s arm. Jirou didn’t so much watch as he felt the even surge of energy she emitted twined about her limb, unfettered by lack of concentration or anything resembling exertion. Instinctually he wanted to shy away from the woman. The ease of her control added to the overall careful compression her could feel ever so slightly from her told him that she was as powerful as his Vice Captain, if not more so. He settled on the latter. There was no way Jirou was going to believe she couldn’t best Lerato after observing her she conducted herself about the squad.

Snap out of it! Caught up in contemplation, Jirou turned his attention back to the whole of the group only to realize that, of those present, he was the only one yet to attempt the first step to Senda. Let’s fix that. An average academy student, Jirou wasn’t overly proficient in swordplay or hand-to-hand combat and just as moderately inclined to kidou. His only true talent beyond instinctual wiles was an intimate knowledge of his own reiatsu; the skill compounded to his sensitivity to other reiatsu sources.

Flexing his control and miming her stance, Jirou placed her right hand over his left, clouding his digits in transparent cerulean, the fluid water like energy pooling towards his ground facing palm. That wouldn’t do. A ripple disturbed the blue energy, pulling the reiatsu into and even coating as Jirou began dragging her hand towards his shoulder. At his elbow he took a gulping breath, he could feel and see the constriction taking hold of his arm. The veins in the back of his hand were becoming prominent while his white gi sleeve crumpled against his skin where his energies trapped parts of the fabric. By the time Jirou’s hand met with his shoulder, there was a fine sheen of sweat marring his brow.

_Cut Flashback_

-{and stop with this stupid theatrical film crap!}-

Once the reiatsu was in place the exertion needed to keep it in place lessened, but the pressure on his arm didn’t. Concern flittered across his face when he attempted to move his hand but it was locked into a fist. That can’t be normal… Stifling a nervous laugh, the one-eyed man turned back to Aine, his hand still at his shoulder. Jirou had close pined his reiatsu in place, but ever time his mind wandered in the slightest he felt the sheathe of energy trying to spring back down his arm. Is that how it works? You use your reiatsu like a taught rubber band and fling it down your arm?

Asuma Haruka

"This Miss Aine of yours certainly does seem to sidetrack people, doesn't she?" A smile tugged at the corner of Kay's mouth as she shifted to face the shinigami who'd come over to speak with her. Haru, she remembered his name was. He seemed nice, she decided, for all that he was perhaps a little formal and stiff. Combined with the small nervous chuckle, she thought he might have been a little nervous, but she couldn't be sure. If he was, she certainly didn't blame him for it. So many shinigami had extreme personalities that didn't exactly lend themselves to easy friendships. Kay, however, was not this type. Nor, it seemed, was Haru.

"Still," She continued. "I'm almost jealous that you got so much private practice with a powerful mentor. I'm sure it was--" She paused, her smile grew and there was laughter in her tone as she seemed to choose her next words delicately. "An education all its own.

"Anyway, thanks for that," She said, referring to his comment about the technique Aine had them practicing. "It would be unfortunate to lose a limb so early in my career,"

Kay watched Haru shape his own reiatsu to his arm. He didn't use hand movements, which confirmed her suspicion that they weren't needed for this particular technique. She was quiet while he focused, glancing around as the other shinigami attempted the first step of the senda. Aine hadn't given any more instruction, so there was nothing to do but wait.

Haru wasn't the only one who seemed ill at ease in social situations. Another shinigami emerged from the underbrush, carrying herself with a rather uncharacteristic slouch that seemed at odds with her small, delicate frame. It was as though she had watched some American gangster movie and chosen to emulate the mannerisms of the principle characters.

A distinctive change in the air around Haru drew her attention back to him.

"So, seventh squad?" She asked once he'd completed his own preparation for the senda. "It's probably my first or second choice, but I'm a bit on the fence. How do you like it?"

Sorry for the LONG wait!

I had some family issues come up and then I got sick, so I was away from the computer for a while, and then college started up again. So, again I’m sorry for disappearing and making you all wait for so long. Once your character has performed Senda once, you can add the skill to your profile. However, you must continue working with Senda to perfect it, it takes a lot of time to master. I don’t want to catch anyone saying that they can instantly do it or only training for a few in character days. No one is Ichigo here.

I’m going to speed up this training by omitting the long and drawn out observation I was going to wright out for each character as Aine watched them gather reiatsu correctly and just move directly into how to use the technique.

A poet is a nightingale,

x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x

[Yadda, yadda what would have been long but pertinent fluff about all your characters.]

Pleased that her pupils had all managed to follow along with her rather…rushed instructions, Aine decided it was the appropriate time to continue her lesson. “Now,” she inserted over the various levels of chatter, “once you’ve got the coating down you all need to take a generous little jaunt away from each other. The first use of Senda is violent and you’ll be going up vertically for now since a horizontal movement is the second step to perfecting this technique.” Bending at her waist, Aine placed the palm of her left hand firmly on the packed earth and motioned for her ‘students’ to follow. “Put your palm on the ground to start, fingers tucked together and thumb tucked in as well. What you want to do is lean the majority of your body weight over your shoulder. So, if you have to get on your tip-toes to do that or can to a one armed hand stand, be my guest. I suggest leaning over your arm, you’ll be less likely to dislocate your shoulder.”

“Next, once you’re in position, all you have to do is make the reiatsu over your arm roll downwards towards your hand. When you release it, especially the first time, it will snap down with full force and send you flying. The force will also knock most of the air out of your lungs and leave you hanging in the air about six stories up, so be prepared, you don’t really want to land in a heap and break something on the way down. But for now, keep your eyes on me. I’m going to let my Senda mimic what yours will most likely do on this first go around.” Positioning herself correctly, Aine brought her right hand back to her left shoulder and instead of leaning over her hand her feet kicked off the ground and left her in a single hand stand. “Just don’t try this in a handstand a first. I can do it just fine, but I want all of you not to hurt yourselves.” Putting emphasis in her word she glanced at Lerato quickly, hoping he’d take the hint this time. “Okay, one…two…three,” like a band stretched to tight the black coating on her arm snapped downwards with a barely audible ‘whoosh’ and Aine rocketed skywards. The force was enough to send her flying straight up with enough speed to be lost from sight momentarily. Tucking into a neat roll at the zenith of her flight before speeding towards the earth feet downwards, she stuck the landing with a light tap of booted feet a few inches from where she’d went flying.

Standing from the crouch she’d used to dissipate the impact, she gave a light smile to the small crowd. “Each of you try it, but I’ll warn you now. You need to spend hours upon hours perfecting this technique. No one can do it in a day or even a month, and as you progress you’ll be able to control the directionality of the reiatsu that propels you. Additionally, you’ll need less and less reiatsu to use Senda effectively and eventually it will reach Shunpo like speeds and stealth. Also,” she began, turning her attention towards Haru, “as I neglected to inform Haru during his lessons, Senda has a little quirk in its design I didn’t foresee. As you become more proficient your reiatsu will begin to affect the technique; as in the most basic qualities your reiatsu possesses will create a variant of Senda. My particular variant is called Kantsuu, or Pierce. My reiatsu is sharp and I’ve found I’m adapted to breaking through shielding more effectively than most. Because I know how my reiatsu functions, I know that is what it most naturally will do. For each of you, you’ll eventually find your own variant. Or theoretically you should. You all are the first I’ve taught the technique to.”

[Tadah! Now you all have Senda, as soon as you make the post saying you completed the first use! For adding this info to your profile, find my profile for Aine, Senda is listed there very clearly. You'll need to edit some of it to fit your character, but the basic understanding of the technique is there.]

It took Sakura a minute to comprehend what was going on what with all the concentrated frowns and blood flying around. It was clear that she had missed the beginning of the instructions, but by keeping her mouth shut and focusing on discerning the reiatsu flows around her, she got the general idea of what needed to be done: gather reiatsu tightly and evenly around an arm. Without much thought, she picked her right arm to try this technique since she was worried that her reiatsu control around the other arm was just as bad as her calligraphy although she had never had the opportunity to verify that theory. Slowly Sakura raised her sword arm and used her left hand to circle it as though she was wrapping linen or bandages around it. She opted to let her energy spiral around her arm letting it thicken and tighten with each layer. The process was slow and she soon disconnected herself from the rest of the world in favor of focusing her whole attention onto the delicate process. She had a hunch that if she slipped, things would get out of control and the pressure would grind her arm into a bloody mess. She had seen what happened to some of the officers so she did not want to think about what would happen to a greenhorn like her.

The feeling was constraining to say the least. It reminded her of the time she had broken an arm while falling down a tree back in Rukongai and had been stuck with a cast for a few months except that casts usually maintained their shape and did not exert a constant force around her arm. She found the energy wrapped around her arm extremely comfortable and wondered if it would cut her circulation if she didn't do anything about it. Finally after a few minutes, a swirling coat of pink energy covered her arm. It was about time too since their instructor had moved on to the next stage and she carefully scooted a little closer to get a better look, hazel eyes shining with curiosity.

Sakura had watched with concern as Aine took off from the ground while demonstrating the technique. The petite girl was clearly very skilled and the graduate couldn't help but wonder as to what her position was in the Gotei since she had missed most of the previous conversation. Not wanting to land on anyone or launch herself into anyone as a matter of fact, Sakura took a few steps back until she was five feet away from everyone in their little group and bent down so that her knuckles were against the ground. Flexibility was not an issue for her since she had been a dancer in her human days although she has no recollection of it, but she regretted not tying her hair properly as she could barely see her hand through the curtain of waist long hair.

Gingerly, she reached around with her left arm to push the strands away, but the movement shifted her body without her notice so when she finally came around to release the stocked energy, she shot up diagonally to her left at a good eighty degrees from the horizontal plane. She thought she heard herself let out a surprised yelp, but the burn in her right arm distracted her further. She had forgotten to maintain a balance between the energy coating her arm and the energy her arm was emitting and the release of all that energy left a spiraling trail of burn along the length of her arm. However, the ground had been approaching quickly and she twisted her body in a roll as she landed at an angle equivalent to her take off to decrease the force of impact.

She did not bother getting up after the roll and instead laid in the dirt, clutching her wounded arm as she mentally went over what the heck just happened. "I think I'll only be trying this in the proximity of the Fourth Division," she sighed to no one in particular still slightly shaken from all that had taken place in such a short time. She was not used to being around such a crowd to begin with and although learning this new technique had been quite interesting since she had not heard of it in any of the textbooks, it only made her day a bit too eventful to her liking. She made a mental note to go to the fourth division to get her arm fixed and grab a hair tie. Luckily the burns weren't too serious and nothing seemed to be broken though the impact had hurt her hand and may have harmed her wrist had she not aligned her wrist properly.

Kodate looked up at his teacher with a curious gaze as he watched and listened to her ministrations. Thankfully externalizing reiatsu was like pulling on a compound bow. Once you got past the tension of the pull and the bow set, it was easy to keep it in place. But if you released the tension in your arm even a little...snap. So Kodate was doing everything he could in order to keep it tensed. Watching the demonstration, he almost gaped his mouth as the woman soared high into the air. Shinigami were uniquely able to survive the most amazing things, but this seemed excessive. Although he did understand the applications of being able to send a blast strong enough to knock a person hundreds of feet into the air, and the effects it would have on an opponent.

Once the woman had sent them off, he took quite a few steps back, and leaned the entirety of his large body down, pressing all of his weight into his arm. He started by locking his body into a 'v' formation, but then leaned forward so it was more like a dramatic, standing push-up with his shoulder at an angle. Here goes nothing. He grimaced, and let go of the reiatsu control, so that it would pour downwards. But 'pour' is a very poor word for what happened. A single, solid boom eminated from his arm as he flew backwards; not up, or even slightly at an angle into the air. Kodate was practically flying parallel with the ground, his shinigami robe in tatters up to the shoulder and even past, and his arm was covered in superficial lacerations and mild burns.

The large man flailed for a little while until he managed to grab a hold of the reiatsu in the air a little, progressively slowing his missile-like path until he slammed into the ground, hitting somewhere along his scapula, before rolling a few times and skidding to a halt somewhere along the dirt. He laid there for a bit, staring at the sky. His arm throbbed fiercely, but it wasn't in true pain. He flexed it for good measure, and wondered how many times he could 'practice' that technique before it would stop working completely. He groaned, and pushed himself to standing with his good arm.

"Ow."

Angel looked over to the woman teaching everyone and listened carefully to what to do next. However he didnt expect the next step to send him flying in to the air and come crashing back down. His head snapped up as he watched the woman fly up and come back down like she did this everyday. He was amazed. He smiled and couldnt wait to get this move down. He looked around at the others as they as well began to do their own attempt. He laughed as he watched Kodate not so much as fly in the air, but fly backwards like someone shot him out of a cannon. The boom sound that followed made him even think of the idea and made him laugh even more.

Angel took a deep breath as he shifted around so he was on his knees, placed his right hand against the ground, and placed his left arm on his right shoulder. He was really hoping he wouldnt do what Kodate did, but things never did go the way he wanted it to. He took another deep breath before he let the reiatsu roll off of his arm. The next thing he knew a sudden boom sent him flying upwards in a backwards spin. This made Angel growl out in annoyance as he corrected himself in mid-air. He looked around for a second taking the sight of the sky, but this was short as he began his descent back to the ground. His eyes went wide when he saw how fast he was coming down which made him smile. He quickly covered his legs with reiatsu as he then crashed 10 feet away from the group. As the dust settled Angel would climb out of the small crater he made and coughed, "Well. That was....fun." He said before he let out another cough.

A cacophony of sound erupted around him no sooner than Aine had returned to the earth, her students more than willing to run off and attempt to mimic her. However no sooner had they started to take their positions did things take a turn for the worse. The smallest girl seemed to mimic Aine the closest, only a slight tilt knocking her trajectory askew. From there he watched as Kodate was sent rocketing backwards as if he had been shot out of a cannon. Angel was the most fun to watch though because while he didn’t end up tumbling along the ground like Kodate he had managed to combine the theatrics of the previous two in a brilliant display of hilarity. “Aine, are you trying to kill them?” He barked, hunched over in laughter. Of course his own attempt was bound to be just as pathetic. It didn’t matter how skilled at other techniques a person was; with a skill as intricate, and devastating, as Shunpo and Senda, the first few attempts to perform it ended with results that were… less than desirable. ‘I wonder if she really thinks I’ll just take the easy route…’ The vice captain only pondered the idea for a brief moment before he smiled, jogged a few feet away and turned to face the guardswoman.

“Hey Aine, catch me!” He bellowed joyfully, quickly replacing the layer of reiatsu that had to be stretched over his arm. It only took Lerato three steps until he had reached full speed and, with a grace unexpected from such a large man, he lunged forward into a front round-off, transitioned into a one handed back handspring. When his right hand met with the ground for the second time he let the pent up energy roll down his arm. Everything seemed to have been going well until the energy reached mid-bicep and a deep slicing pain wrapped around his arm, quickly followed by a gruesome spray of pressurized blood that was sure to catch anyone within three feet. No sooner had Lerato left the ground -at a perfect ninety degree angle- did he wrap his free hand around the injured arm. He didn’t need to look at the wound to tell there were multiple lacerations, intertwined near the bicep yet perfectly parallel to one another at the triceps. Landing softly on the balls of his feet he lowered his non-injured arm and examined the damage; another odd scar. “Well… I’ve seen worse…” He mumbled. Under the coating of blood appeared to be a charred sixteenth note surrounded by a stretched electron cloud that, as it wrapped around, shifted into sheet music.

“All in all I’d say not bad, wouldn’t you agree?” He chuckled while watching a small stream of blood trickle from between his index and middle finger. “Definitely something to practice though… Say,” he said, turning towards Aine, “just how long will it take before s**t like this stops happening?” He asked as he jerked his chin towards his most recent wound. In the back of his mind he was already trying to analyze his own reiatsu, guessing at what Senda would morph into after becoming accustomed to his own peculiar reiatsu. “Say… you wanna catch a drink later? Maybe work on this a bit more in private?” He joked, winking.

Natsuki Observed carefully and in detail the positioning and angle that Aine had set herself into then went on to observe the others who had attempted the technique after she landed with little to no effort. Sure enough what type of reiatsu being manipulated had a huge impact on the refined effectiveness of the technique. returning her attention to her own energy wrapping she decided to play around with something she'd been wondering about. more of a preliminary refinement of the control that would be needed to perform this skill.

Raising her arms into a T-like manner she used her vision as a guide for movement of the energy as it slowly began to flow from one arm to the other and then back to the beginning arm. to those observing it would look akin to a snake of water trailing across her chest and between her arms, raveling and unraveling around each become solid shells of energy at each end cycle before moving back across to the other arm.

Finally the energy settled again on the arm in which she began, she did feel a bit more comfortable now with the energies movements and assume the position needed, unfortunately there wasn't enough of her small frame putting weight into the arm so she would need to hand stand to get a comfortable amount of weight on it for this session of practice.

Lifting her weight up onto her energy ridden arm she angled herself to an adjusted ratio of Aine's positioning. 'I should probably only release a small burst in order to keep me arm in tact and relatively uninjured...' She thought to herself as she focused a long period of time on the energies coating her arm. She certainly wasn't being swift with this not in the slightest, after several minutes of nothing a ripple began around the halfway point of her arm a rushed down pulling taught the energy behind it as it went. The energy burst forth into the ground sending Natsuki skyward about twenty or so feet before she began to plummet back towards the ground again the ripple began at the half way point and burst downwards as she reached near the ground sending her back up a few feet the energy even thinner and weaker then before. the final burst removed the rest of the sleeve of energy from her arm and she landed rather gently. Though it seemed like she handled the technique well the sheer amount of time it took for her to prep it was far to long to be of any use in actual combat. Her arms and clothing came away clean save a few minor abrasions from the multiple rushes of energy along it though all in all she felt an understanding for the technique and with practice she could find many uses for it in the field.

"This technique when refined could certainly be a game changer in a battle, I thank you for sharing the knowledge with us." She commented finally no longer needing to concentrate on the energies that once lay in her arm. It was strange how a simple gathering became a training session of such magnitude. She was certainly appreciative of her location choice at this point that much was certain.

Watching the other Senda trainees attempt to mimic Aine’s impressive blast off, Jakku felt a rather large amount of amusement mixed in with a dash of schadenfreude. At least until he was hit with a spray of blood, standing out quite obviously on his white haori. Damn it. He looked down at the specks of crimson that dotted sections of his torso then back up as Lerato shot vertically up, unlike some of the others who had fired off at an angle and even horizontally. Of course, it also served to remind him that he himself needed to join in on the equivalent of an amateur space program. The one thought that ran through Jakku’s mind at that was, Oh, wonderful. I suppose it’s my turn then. He suppressed a sigh and any outward sign of his nervousness. While others might think it’d be fun, Jakku was not looking forward to being blasted off his feet by himself, potentially damaging his arm in the process.

Jakku assumed the position that the instructor, Aine, had told them to, going in for the basic one-handed push up. He tucked in his fingers and let the majority of his weight fall on his stiff left arm. He took a deep breath. Last minute doubts flooded his mind at this moment. He knew how to do it in theory and he could coat his arm. Did he really have to blast off like the others? He sure did not want to. After all, his preferred state was feet planted solidly on the ground. Still though, people were watching. Others had done it and he did not want to appear like a coward or an incompetent by backing out at the last moment. He breathed out and forced the reiatsu around his arm downwards at the same time.

Boom! Jakku’s eyes widened as he felt an immense upward thrust and watched the ground retreat from him at a frantic pace. He skyrocketed upwards so quickly that his head felt somewhat woozy and his ears popped. He had trouble drawing breath and felt some panic. Then Jakku noticed something else. For the briefest moment, he had stopped moving. Then he began his downward descent. Adrenaline pumped into his blood as his mind raced with the proper procedures of falling to the ground from over six stories of height and he only had a few seconds to get ready for the impact. Quickly he oriented himself to fall feet first and bent his knees to be able to absorb the impact.

And that was all he had time for before he crashed back into the ground, landing on the balls of his feet, His landing created two knee deep deformities in the grass that threw up clouds of dirt and he felt such a jolt go through him that he simply fell down on his behind, sitting there with his legs still in the deformities they had created. After a moment, he managed to recover his breath and slowly got up. As the adrenaline wore off, he became increasingly aware of a sharp stinging sensation all throughout his left arm. Rolling his sleeve up, he studied his arm and physically grimaced. While there weren’t any burns or lacerations like some of the others were experiencing, Most of the skin on his arm was a pinkish red, as if the reiatsu in the senda had stripped away a layer. In some places there were patches of normal skin and in others it looked as though the skin had been stripped completely. He grimaced for a split second at the disturbing sight and then rolled the sleeve of his kosode back over it. Maybe he would have to pay a visit to a healer later.
