if they wanted superman the movie and smallvillle to be connected they would have placed tom welling as the lead but then they would have to bring all of the cast from smallville on to the movie. then cast them as the charaters they play in smallville. and if they did that there would be no smallville for a very very very long time and it would just be reruns over and over...

Thats the thing they didn't want Smallville and Superman to be connected at all.IT was a big question as to why they didn't have tom as the Lead and they said it was because they didn't want people to think that it was going to be a Smallville movie.

Brian Singer, the producer of Superman returns did not want Tom to play the part of Clark Kent, he wasn't even considered.
Smallville had no such choice about not relating Superman and Smallville together, but the good thing is they focus on the Clark Kent BEFORE he was Superman, that's why the show's so good.
And yes, I love the bits especially when he rips his shirt off. xd

insane toaster I think they should! xp sure i guess he looks like Superman but he cant act! It bugs me!! He is a really bad actor! But still cute! blaugh tom is a GREAT actor! he deserves every credit hes been givin! he really deserves the honor of superman returns! routh is a bad actor.

Actually Tom isn't that great of an actor. I have said it before. But his looks and hotness are what make up for his lack in acting ability. I personally really don't want to see Tom in the superman movies. It would get people all hyped up in thinking that it was a smallville movie, then people would think they had been jipped if it wasn't. Not to mention that we wouldn;t have any new Smallville episodes in the time of making his movie. I mean Tom hasn't been in many movies because all the movies he has been in (Fog, Cheaper by the dozen 1&2) were all filmed in the time being between the seasons of smallville in the summer and such.

Well, come on... Tom isn't an expert action like Tom Cruise or Nicholas Cage. He's still NEW. He's getting better you have to say as each season goes by. Tom is talented, just like Michael so yeah and they work great together too!
So you have to admit, Tom playing Clark is a much better choice then Jensen Arckles playing Clark Kent, Jensen was their choice if Tom didn't want the role. I just cna't see Jense playing Clark Kent... He plays those bad boys, but Clark isn't anything like that usually. So I can't really imagine Jensen being in the spot.

Back on the idea of casting Tom for the movie: I agree they shouldn't have cast him - I just can't see him being Superman in the tights. It would be sooo weird don't you think? And then later, to see him go back to a different time in his life next fall for Smallville??? I got to see the movie today (sooo awesome!) and I actually really liked Routh but I was still having some trouble seeing him as Superman because he's not Reeves, especially since they worked it like it was an actual sequel to the first 3 (he also seemed kinda skinny - is it really just me???? xd ). Same thing with like Lois and Perry White - they were great in the new movie but I couldn't get the originals out of my head while I watched.
And yeah, Jenson was Jason.

Yeah I'm glad they didn't have any of the characters for superman because Smallville and Superman are supposed to be separate from like 5 or 10 years.
