He wasn't sure where the music was coming from. Maybe it was coming from his head. Maybe he had lost it again. Jerry wobbled, lowering his bazooka as the shadows all seemed to still for a moment, and he didn't even realize the nervous, quiet hum had picked up in his throat.
Maybe it was in his head.
Maybe that wasn't a bad thing.
"There is a house in New Orleans...." The bazooka was raised, sweeping around through the blackness, his voice wavering slightly, "They call the Rising Sun..." Somehow, the song was really making him feel better. A shadow leaped and with a BLAM, met its demise. "And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy," BLAM BLAM BLAM, "And God I know I'm one..."
This... wasn't so bad. Alright, it was awful and he didn't want to admit his probably need of a change and a shower if and when they got back to base, but.... but if he just... didn't think too hard and let Roar do the work...

Robert heard the music, but his yells were too loud to catch the tune at first. When the noise petered out, Robert's scythe did not, and it swung mercilously, even as he shook his head at Jerry.
"Sorry, kiddo." He laughed at the older man. "You're on your own, this time."
This song just wasn't the life hunter's style.

"What is that sound?" she breathed, going completely rigid as the notes softly began to fill the air.
At first, with that first note, Petra had no idea what it was. It could have been anything... it was distinctly musical, sweet and almost soothing, had the situation been different, but her mind did not automatically jump to an instrument. At first, she thought she might have accidentally tapped something metalic with one of Cain's spikes, sending a vibration through it, but she had felt no resistance in her weapon, and the sound wasn't close enough. Robert could have hit something, she rationalized, and the thought calmed her a bit, logic familiar and comforting.
But then there was another note. And a third. The sound of the familiar tune grew louder, each passing keystroke less sweet than the one before, starting to echo eerily off the walls.
It was a piano. Someone was playing a piano. SOMEONE. WAS PLAYING. A PIANO.
"Why is there a piano?!"
There, in the dark, alone, the moon hunter in training felt that familiar twang of fear rising in her throat as the music swelled and dipped elegantly in the darkness.
Even as it soothed Jerry's fears, the melody had begun to unwind her. Petra was starting to lose it. Things were starting to fall apart, had started to collapse the moment and Robert had broken away, separating them from Jerry and Harrison, culminating in their descent into the darkness. This wasn't the plan. They were supposed to be a unit, they were supposed to kick a** and take names every step of the way, they were supposed to liberate this school and drive every last shadowling back into the hellish abyss from which they had crawled out of. Instead, they stumbled in the dark. Robert was in a pissing contest with Jerry and was screaming about video games. Jerry was a nervous wreck, she wasn't sure why, but it was beginning to become infectious. Then they were BOTH singing. Harrison was the only sane one between the boys, and even his relatively calm responses, was not enough to counterbalance the other two. She had no idea where any of them were, only occasionally seeing a flash from Jerry's bazooka and hearing his voice echo off the walls.
And there was a piano...
Flicking her eyes in the darkness, Petra's knuckles were white where they clutched her mace. Slowly losing her calm, collected, methodical response.
"BOBBY!"

He heard it in the tone of her voice. The waver. The way she used his nickname. The inflection. He swiveled in place, his 'head down power through' attitude crashing to the ground as his only objective became to get to her. Get to her. He heard the demand pounding through his blood, and his scythe swung wide, taking down the only shadowling that stood between them. Another second didn't pass before his arms were wrapped wide around her body, pulling her into his embrace.
"I gotcha, sunshine. You remember, just like always. I gotcha. You're safe, right here baby. Bobby's not gonna let another thing touch you."

Was Jerry really ok? It was difficult to tell, lost in the darkness with only his wobbling voice and the occasional blast of green light from Roar illuminated a twisted, manic expression for a brief moment. "My mother was a tailor... She sewed my new bluejeans..." BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM, "My father was a gamblin' man, Down in New Orleans..." BLAM.
The darkness was strangling, engulfing him. His mind hazy. Was he even aiming, or just firing wildly? In the shadows it was difficult to tell, but while Robert was able to throw his arms around Petra for comfort, it was clear even if Harrison had wrapped his arms around Jerry it wouldn't have helped matters, and probably would have made things worse.

There wasn't any way to see through the darkness, to know what was coming towards her. She hoped it was Robert -- prayed it was Robert -- but as Jerry's voice swelled to meet the sound of the piano, hisses and growls of monsters surrounding them, she found herself shivering a bit at the echo of heavy feet crossing the room. If someone was playing the piano, that meant not only were they not alone, but they didn't know who was there. All she could see in the black abyss was the occasional movement of somethings, the flicker of shadowlings on the ceiling, slashing out in the darkness for what she could only assume was her teammates. Lifting one foot slowly, Petra felt for the floor behind her, accidentally kicking something metallic and going rigid as it clattered loudly. The footsteps were getting louder, coming straight for her, and she scrambled back to try to get away, making a startled sound as she hit the wall behind her.
It took everything she had not to cry out as Robert went around her, her free hand flailing out to try to push him away until she heard his voice. Shaking a little, she took a few panted breaths, trying to calm herself before she pressed up against him, resettling her hand on the handle of her mace, forcing herself not to shake anymore.
"I-I'm ok," she murmured, forcing her voice to a neutral, calm tone, trying to reassure him she could handle this, "You keep going, I've got your back."

Harrison had no intentions of putting his arms around anybody, and even if he had, he wouldn't have put them around Jerry. Jerry didn't need a hug. He needed to keep up the tempo.
"What," he ground out, and it was hot here in the dark, mowing through shadow after shadow. Sweat would have made it hard to see, if there was much to see in the first place. He made his way towards the flash of green and Jerry's singing, the glow of B0nez's skull the only thing that let Jerry know he was there at all. "No moonlight sonata?"

Moonlight sonata? Jerry gave a wild giggle that cut off with a sharp, strangled wail, Roar's flashes suddenly coming to an abrupt halt.

"It wasn't that funny," Harrison said, stuffing B0nez's shorter blade in his sash and reaching through biting, kicking, and scratching until he found Jerry. He swung behind him with the other sword. He didn't want to use it to knock off the shadows when he couldn't tell where they stopped and Jerry started.
He hauled Jerry up, holding B0nez close to their faces, then lowering the sword again.
"Really...wish I'd brought that night light."

"Aaah... aaaaah..." Jerry squeaked as he was hauled upward, and for a brief moment there was a flash of a horrified face in the green light from Roar. He swung around, nearly stumbling over the moon-trainee, his face contorting with each glowing blast as the whimpering turned into outright bellowing of horror and rage, firing wildly through the darkness.

The man's nerves seemed to be shot, his wild firing finally cutting short as he realized he nearly shot his friend directly during his wild sweep. Unfortunately that gave the shadows ample opportunity to surge downward.

"I've got them. I've got you...I can't see s**t."
Harrison fought his way to Jerry's elbow, staying shoulder-to-shoulder so he wouldn't lose track of him. And so he wouldn't be in the line of fire.
"Since it seems like, y'know, you're in charge and everything...do we have to stay down here?"

"I c-can't!" Jerry breathed, grabbing Harrison by the arm in a frantic panic before a fresh yelp caught in his throat. The Bazooka was up, this time hoisted onto the Moon-Trainee's shoulder before blasting the leaping shadows behind him, "M-maybe... yes... yes... out... up...! Away!" He choked, nearly blown backward himself.

Staggering to his feet, he didn't hesitate further and trusted Harrison to keep to his heals as Jerry blasted his way he prayed led back to the stairs. It was a suffocating, disorienting, horrible inky abyss, but somewhere... somewhere it had to still be there.

Harrison rocked backwards with the charge. B0nez was the only thing keeping him on his feet. Thick, dark, claws, teeth. Shadows scrabbled for footholds too, bullying closer...he stayed close to Jerry.
"Petra, Robert! We're heading back upstairs! It's too heavy down here!"
