Aleister watched as the door crashed open and two others came one. One with a gas mask, he looked slightly perplexed and almost worried the thoughts of another test like that going through his head.
Oh this wouldn't be.... BAM
He winced as she was shot, eyes closed for a second. Trying not to think about the fact this doctor could be so careless with that weapon. It was when he spoke again Aleister opened an eye and stared at the doctor and then Bix. The hell just happened?
Then the woman called or what he supposed was the woman. "Uh......." He looked flabbergasted. Golems? Magic? He could only think of one pharse over and over agan as the doctor spoke, what the hell?
"Partners?" He asked suddenly. They never said anything about partners that he remembered in the contract. He was talking to himself now though perhaps a bit loud, "So we're going to be robin while someone better than us is batman?"

....So it was just a doll.
Eyebrows still drawn together, she could not help but think about what had just transpired. He had shot a doll, but the doll had seemed to have somewhat of a personality to it. Head still pounding, she listened curiously while the back of her mind talked on. The trials, were the bodies that died 'golems', as he called them, were they what happened to them as well? Had she thought a golem was actually her? It sure felt real enough...
So his assistant just now, had she felt as if she was truly dying only to wake up in the pods room?
...Ceres did not blame the girl at all for spiting the Doctor back then. She hoped she found something good.
"We will be paired up then?" She glanced around the room, taking notice of all the occupants. She assumed they would be working in sort of a.. apprentice system. Learning the ropes and what not. Just then she heard someone else ask the same question, if not a bit....differently. Batman and Robin, really?

Hearing a feminine voice come through the other end of the phone was...reassuring? To a degree, Minerva's face still pinched in a way that showed her slight disgust for the matter. But the fashion in which Dr. H sauntered about, the way he spoke and the manner of which he carried himself; it was alluring, in the sense that Minnie couldn't keep her eyes off of him.
And everything that was said clicked instantly within her. There were a lot of things no one could account for, and sudden death was one of them. If she ever thought she was safe from it here at Dues Ex Machina, the woman was certainly feeling otherwise now. The golem that lay on the floor was still gushing matter of which Minerva had never seen before; it was dead, most definitely and confirmed by Dr. H with both the kick to its side and the verbal declaration...but then that meant it had been living. Perhaps not aware that it was being used as a vessel, which was what Minnie deduced was their purpose, but alive. A life.
Dr. H's approach made her nervous, but the death still kept a frown on her lips instead being replaced with true worry. She leaned away from him and turned her face to the side despite the interest in hearing more and the interest she had taken in him, specifically. Like the initial hooded figure from the hive, he seemed to be expecting more.
And when he spoke of a partner and completion of ones being, her frown deepened. "A partner of sorts?" Her words were in a whisper, but perhaps heard by those in her vicinity.

This was all kind of mind blowing. The thing H killed was just some sort of doll or puppet. Even so, Deryk didn't ease out of his frozen state just yet. It wasn't until the doctor said something about partners that he relaxed somewhat.
"So you guys run on a buddy system?" he asked while tilting his head. He had a similar idea to Aleister as he brought up the dynamic duo, "What if there's an odd number of us here? And what do you mean by having them complete us?"
He was trying not to ask too much at once juuuust in case the doctor had a bit of a hair trigger.

Again with the belittling tone. Okay, he hated this guy again. Every inch of Otto wanted to tune out what was being said. However, it was rather relevant information. Otto wanted to be of as little use just to spite the dude. That may, however, be counter productive. He didn't want to go back into a coma again.
So, golems? That explained the island mess nice and clear now. Otto simply made a hum of understanding, gazing down at the muddy mess of an assistant again. It was simply fascinating to the teen. So they could control these things like robots to do their dirty work? Epic Win.
But, Wait..wait... Partners? They had to pair up? Not with these bozos in class, would it? Otto curled his lip in disgust. He did not want to be partners with anyone.

"S-so that wasn't really..." Eva's tensed muscles relaxed all at once, and she nearly slid off of her chair as her urge to shake the man senseless diminished. It didn't disappear--the way he spoke to all of them was extremely condescending--but at least the urge had lessened.
So that thing was called a golem? She realized now that it was mud that was pooling on the ground instead of human-bits, but it chilled her to see just how life-like the golem had been. The way it spoke, the way it moved...
"Partner?" Eva frowned, and then immediately began to glance around at everyone else in the room. He didn't mean that they had to partner up with someone else here, did he? Or maybe he meant becoming partners with someone more experienced and who would show them the ropes?
In the case of the former, Eva eyed Otto, subtly scooting her chair away from him and closer to Reine and Ceres. It was almost like preschool all over again, only instead of cooties, the girl just didn't want to deal with Otto's attitude.

Subtltey: Eva had not achieved it. The soft screech of the chair had his attention. Otto knew who it was. He knew what she was thinking. It was the same thing he was thinking. Working with any of these people was not something he wanted to do, and he knew his attitude had the attention of others. So, without even so much as a glance, Otto spoke to Eva;
"The feeling is mutual, you know." He called to the girl, icy eyes only then flicking to the dark haired female. His expression was sour as usual.

Damn it. She knew that she needed to work on that quiet and subtle thing.
"Otto," That was his name, right? She realized that she hadn't said it aloud--god forbid she say the wrong name and he start making fun of her for it (as she was sure he would), "With all due respect, I wouldn't mind working with you if...if..." Uh, how was she supposed to say this?
"If you weren't such an a**."
Yeah. That...that subtle thing needed work.
"You're a pretty grumpy kid, aren't you?"
Eva. Eva, shut up now.

Shifting her gaze to the blond boy, Ryan; Kat merely shrugged. "Not that I can remember. I think I would have remembered fight a horse.." She answered, knowing that her memory wasn't that faulty..or was it. She couldn't decide.
Jumping a little as the door slammed open, she watched patiently as the two entered the room. Was this who they were waiting on? Keeping her attention on the hooded man and masked woman, Kat shuddered at the sight of that outfit the girl was sporting. Not something she wanted to see again.
Her eye's followed as the man pointed to the people in the room, nearly snorting at the comment made. Sucked to be those guys if that was the case.
BANG
What..? Did he just..kind of looks like he did. Sitting quietly in her seat, she watched solemnly as the Doctor continued. It wasn't surprising to see some of the others freak out at the display. Kat, on the other hand, did nothing. If there was one thing she had learned in her trials, it was that; anything can happen. They were turned on each other once--no one said that it couldn't happen again.
Thankfully, it appeared that was not the case. A golem? How clever. She would have never guessed.
The mention of partners was neither a comforting, or displeasing thought..though having a partner would have its benefits, she wasn't comfortable working with someone she hardly knew. "Are we assigned our partners?" She asked. "Or do we get a choice, Dr.H?" Whichever it was, she was willing.

Otto's cold gaze hovered on Eva as she insisted on speaking again, and eyebrow raising as she paused. Wouldn't mind working with him if he..? Wasn't an a**? She was dreaming the impossible. Was this supposed to be an insult? The young man smirked, and his gaze returned to staring ahead rather than on the uptight little miss. Yep. he's an a**. And like Dr. H. said; Deal with it. However, she felt the need to add to it. A pet peeve was soon agitated. Kid?! Kid?!?!! His head whipped to regard the girl, a look of complete anger flushed over his features. "WHO'RE YA CALLN' A KID?!" Apparently the grumpy remark wasn't what bothered him.

To her credit, Eva didn't seem too alarmed by the anger that suddenly spread over Otto's features. In fact, it seemed as if she was trying very hard to hide the growing smile on her face. She actually looked kind of proud of herself, if the grin she was hiding behind her hand was any indication.
Ah ha, so she had triggered a nerve. About time he reacted in a way other than indifferent sarcasm. Reaching out, she delivered a flick to his forehead, just as she used to do to her younger cousins.
"Stop acting like a sulky child if you don't like it."

When the man had arrived, along with the woman in the outfit identical to their trial's armor, Vanessa had sat up straighter, lacing her fingers together in front of her on the desk. She watched and listened as he spoke, eyes glued to the front of the room to watch what happening.
Bang.
The shot to the woman's head, the matter splattering the walls, the body falling, all happened so quickly. Vanessa's eyes widened slightly, but oddly enough her first thought that traveled unbidden to her head was not fear, nor appalled confusion, but was "I wish my deaths had been that quick." Death by stakes and gunshots had not been particularly enjoyable, especially after it'd happened twice. (The death as a zombie-thing hadn't been that bad, but...) If Vanessa was right, the woman had not really died, perhaps that's why she was so calm about the entire situation. She didn't want to imagine the alternative, really. Plus, Bix, who seemed to be a pretty normal individual, hadn't reacted really to the shot, so it was probably nothing, right?
Vanessa discovered she was indeed correct when the Doctor explained further. While she was not particularly enjoying his tone (it bothered her to an extent, really), she instead focused on the information he was speaking. He had created such amazing technology? She felt a grudging admiration for this Doctor, if only for his creations. In a somewhat respectful (a 'not awe-struck, but more than just impressed' tone), she said, "You must be quite a capable man then, Sir, to create such technological advances."While she didn't really like Dr. H, she felt the need to give credit where it was due, even then.
The others were voicing questions about the partners he had spoken about. Vanessa was curious herself as to why they would need partners, and glanced to Minerva, who's seat back was currently being gripped by the Doctor. If it came down to an alliance with someone outside of Vanessa's original group, she was probably the best bet. However, the Doctor seemed to be speaking more of in an almost metaphorical sense, so perhaps the partners were not people they knew, or even people at all?

Tedan couldn't help but be amused by how easily Eva was riling Otto up now. He snorted softly, distracted from the questions for the moment by their conversation. Shifting in his seat, he offered the girl a quick thumbs-up and a grin.
And he made a mental note of that little button of his. Didn't like being called 'kid' huh? Nice.

Otto flinches back as his forehead was flicked, staring daggers at the girl who'd done so. "You...b***h." Otto snarled, gritting his teeth while glaring severely. She wanted to laugh at him, he could tell. She thought she was better than him, right? He wanted to smack that feeling out of her at once.
Tedan's thumbs up was caught; Otto's icy stare piercing a hole into the guy's head. Great, what was this guy plotting? Suddenly he thought he was all that, huh? Humph!
The young blond, slumped forward on the backing of his chair again, arms crossed, his face red with anger. He was seething.

Minerva cocked a skeptical brow at him and he smiled. “Honest. I just like talking face-to-face rather than side-by-side, if that makes sense. Oh, yeah. It was at first.” Wilson smiled ruefully as he leaned forward and scratched his head, imagining all the moments he walked into walls and lampposts. At least he eventually learned to constantly look back to watch where he was going.
“Yeah, I guess,” he reluctantly agreed with Ryan and Minerva. Still, he couldn’t stop himself from sighing. “But no more of mother’s home-cooked meals or Aunt Nana’s eccentric souvenirs.” He appeared wistful for a moment, even daydreaming, but quickly woke from it as soon as a hooded figure and woman entered with a loud bang.
Wilson jumped in his seat. “Woah.” As he relaxed, he took in the woman’s hauntingly familiar attire. “Woah…”He warily eyed the so-called doctor as he pointed to them.
Bang. Eyes widened to saucers as he leaned backwards, staring at the collapsed corpse with a horrified expression. Wait. Did he—Just what--? “Magic?” he repeated. The confusion wiped off his face as the doctor answered his phone. Okay. So apparently Clarice wasn’t dead. That was good. That thing he had shot had been a golem. Uh, okay. Wilson sat very still as the doctor made his way toward them, stopping at Minerva’s desk.
Partners? They were getting partners?
