Sunil was suddenly called out by the busty Beorc that had just punted the wailing meatbun out of the way. She was pretty fierce. Some sort of ferociousness that all Gallian soldiers strive for. But that wasn't what made him tremble slightly when she set her cold eyes on him. No... that ferociousness was at least Lion level. She was on equal terms with Carrot Head Skrimir and the King.

He could not compare with the raging beast within her. And he, an actual Beast Laguz, was ashamed with himself.

The cat scurried over towards where the woman was and she asked him about the markings. He took a look at the mark, then spoke.

"He'd be a Dragon Laguz... if he was a Beast Laguz like myself, he'd have ears and a tail. If he was a Winged Laguz, anyone could tell. And if he was mixed, I'd be able to tell instantly with just a glance. But he's not mixed... he's Dragon. Dragon Laguz look the most like Beorc. Well, with the exception of the mixed." he tried to explain. "... You know... Dragon Laguz are supposed to be fairly tough. A tree should not have been enough to kill him..."

I have received word from all roles. I will now start the next round.

Though the day had started in a shockingly grim way, the guests managed to make the best of having to stay at the manor another day. Commander Vaida remained with the body and had to deal with Jaren's shenanigans- the boy ended up running for his life after pushing her over the edge, while Blossom was frantically shouting for them both to please stop. Bozo was unfortunate enough to get in the way of their rampage and was punted over the roof. Legault just stood around and watched, as it was likely the most entertaining thing going on.

Elsewhere, some guests decided to make use of a sparring circle they found out back. Oujay and Enailios had a go at each other first. Rin watched nervously from the side, in case she was needed. Then, Innes borrowed a lance from Vanessa and stepped into the circle with Ephraim. They played with their lances thoroughly while Sunil watched. However, Innes, who could not get the better of Ephraim, eventually decided to just stick with archery and thus joined Sue at shooting targets.

Inside the manor, Iris sat alone talking to herself for a while and then spent a big chunk of time running after Ninian, trying to convince the dancer that she should put on a nice show for dinner. Dietrich desperately drank what he could find to try and drown out the girl's incessant yipping. Aruna spent most of her time in the kitchen helping out. Wallace had gone into the manner right after the butler left and apparently got horrendously lost inside, as he wasn't seen all day.

As the sun was beginning to set, the butler returned. Servants gathered the group inside. The butler seemed quite stressed and sighed heavily. "It seems that the great downpour yesterday has caused the river to flood the bridge into town. It it quite dangerous to pass... I am afraid we are cut off from the village by land until the waters subside." He sighed once more. "In any case, it seems that dinner is almost ready, so if you please, do wash up and prepare yourself." He bowed and then went into the kitchen to check up on things.

Now obviously, not everyone was going to go wash up. But, most did if they any sense of hygiene whatsoever. After the butler somehow managed to kick her from the kitchen, Vaida grumpily went up to her room to wash her face and hands. As she entered, she was met with the sight of a body dangling from a rope.

It was the dead body of Wallace.

The echoing yell attracted all guests and servants towards the room. As the butler entered, he spotted a note on the end-table closest to the body. He picked it up and read it aloud. "It is with great remorse that I write this. The death of the man outside was no accident. I killed him." The butler looked up at the group with surprise after reading the line and then went back to reading the rest. "I couldn't sleep during the night, so I got up and I spotted him. We got to talking and I found out he was a dragon, so I confronted him. He mistook my words as insults and we got aggressive. I only meant to challenge him in a match, but I lost my temper at his words and went wild. I realized what I had done and so I dragged him outside and I cut down a tree on top of his body. I am disgraced by what I have done. My honor is no more and I cannot live with myself. I only pray I can find relief from this agonizing defeat in death."

The butler looked back to the group, heavy-hearted. "...I don't suppose any of you are familiar with his hand? It is written rather sloppily.. even a few things are misspelled. Hm..." He lifted up the note and showed it to everyone and then handed it off to be passed around. "I did not expect this of all things... to think the man's death this morning was not an accident, but a murder... by this man... How tragic. And a captain in the army! Oh my..." He sighed. "So, by this note, this man killed himself over grief of killing the other..." He turned to the group and addressed them all.

"What do you all think?"

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Goodness, what a day. Trying to keep Jaren from getting his sorry butt killed (figuratively or literally) by Vaida, rescuing Bozo after the poor thing was kicked a good many meters away by the angry dragon rider, finding that her clothes had not dried and had somehow gone missing, leaving her to the mercy of the maid staff in finding a new set of clothing to wear... it was stressful, to say the least.

But evening had arrived, finally, it was time for dinner, and then bed would come shortly after. The rain had stopped, but they were unable to cross over to the village due to the bridge. With any luck, the waters would subside in just a couple of days, and then they would be able to receive the aid of the local watch. The Hero mulled over things as she washed her hands and face, staring at her reflection in the mirror. She traced a faint scar along the back of her jawbone thoughtfully. Nasir was apparently a dragon, yes, but he was friendly, not combative like some other people she found herself accompanying in this manor. It was difficult to imagine a tree killing a man such as him. Possible, perhaps, but...

No. Stop thinking about that. It's time for dinner. Blossom shook her head slightly and dried her face, smoothing her bangs back from behind her ears and adjusting her ponytail before leaving the washroom, towel draped over the sink basin.

She had barely closed the door before she heard Vaida scream. She hurried just as quickly as the others did, stopping in the doorway to stare.

Why again? Why here? Blossom listened in stunned silence to the contents of the note, eyes going from Wallace's unmoving body to the butler holding the note that had been left behind in Vaida's room.

"What do you all think?"

Blossom stood in silence before timidly offering, "Um... e-excuse me, but... Wallace isn't so hot-tempered as to fight with someone to the point of death when challenging someone to a match. H-He's a knight, they're more respectful than that." She paused, then added, voice gaining strength, "And... And I don't think he would've done this in Vaida's room unless someone was trying to frame him. Wh-Whether or not he did kill Nasir, I think... I think we need to check to make sure if... if he actually died before he was hung on the rope. Someone's trying to frame at least one of these men, I just... I don't know who."

She paused. "Also, Wallace wouldn't write with that much stylistic flair or varied word choice. I don't think writing was his strong suit."

Seems like spending enough time training around and helping out the Guard and Watch had rubbed off on the little swordswoman.

Jaren had patched together his detective outfit from spare clothing he'd found around the mansion after being chased off by Vaida. The Hero of Justice was going to get to the bottom of the mystery! It seemed the moment he'd gotten his outfit together, a dreadful yell rang out.

"The hero of Justice is on the job!"
he shouted sprinting for the stairs, the hand with his magnifying glass firmly planted to keep his hat in place. When he reached the room it was a gruesome sight, Wallace was dead.

Jaren though went into full on detective mode, examining the body with the magnifying glass and blowing bubbles out of his pipe, once he was through with his inspection he leaned back as if contemplating and blew an incredibly large bubble out of the pipe.

"This wasn't a suicide," he muttered, "this was a murder!" Whipping around the green-haired myrmidon leveled his magnifying glass at Dietrich, "And you're the one who did it! The evidence all points to you! You use an axe! Killing and then framing that tree would have been child's play!" A dramatic flourish with the magnifying glass as he spoke. "The handwriting is in a messy scrawl and some of the words are misspelled, you've been drinking all night! The first death was someone who was also in the room we share, my good man it all points to you." Jaren's eyes narrowed, as he flourished with the bubble pipe at the dead body, "This man claims that both him and the previous victim got aggressive, and yet despite apparently fighting a dragon... he had not a scratch on him earlier. COMRADES OF JUSTICE, ARREST THAT MAN"

Jaren turned away from the group and blew another bubble, the detective never did the arresting. He just looked cool.

As Legault gathered around with the others, he quickly scanned the back of the crowd to see who was missing. He knew of the second death already, but hadn't quite caught who the victim was yet. However, as the group parted slightly, he could see the the hung body of the once proud knight of Caelin. At this, Legault gaped slightly and just stared forward, unable to believe what he was seeing. "There's no way this man would take the coward's way out..." murmured Legault, looking around and gauging the other people's expressions.

It was at this time that Jaren made his dramatic accusation, as if this were all some sort of game. Interestingly, though, what he said made some sense. An axe-wielder would indeed have an easier time cutting down that tree...and no one with sense could have expected a man to suffer no damage from facing a dragon in single-combat. Legault largely kept silent in the back as he waited for the scene to play out, though he was for now viewing Dietrich with a critical eye...just in case.

User ImageThis was a great day. A sparring circle out back, and he got to spar with a fellow hero! The two gave it their all, then shook hands afterwards. A faint bond was forming between the two and no social link was formed.

Later that day, they found out that the bridge was flooded. So much for leaving this manner. With a death gone on already, who knew what would come next? But the sound of dinner cheered him up, so he went to get washed up. Though before dinner could happen, a yell came up from Vaida's room, so they all went up there to a horrific sight.

Another victim had been hit this day. That general seemed to be the next person, and some kind of note was left at the scene. Chopped down a tree. Well anyone with either an axe or a sword could manage to do that. I figure even a lance could, but that would be hard.

The young hero mentioned that Wallace wouldn't use that kind of word choice, so that ruled out the dead man. Then that green-haired kid started to spout out an accusation towards Dietrich, and then he mentioned there was no scratch on him. "Hey kid, how are we sure you aren't the murderer, and just trying to get someone else to take the blame? What were you doing during the time of the murder?"

"Shut up." Dietrich completely ignored the accusation for the time being. The previous morning, he'd been last to arrive on the scene, after first running to the window to empty his stomach onto yet another rosebush. He would have dismissed the scream as ringing in his ears, had Jaren not also bolted out of bed like an obnoxious t**t, shouting and bouncing about.

And he'd been quiet at the site of Nasir's gruesome death, standing back a bit. He hadn't known the victim, of course, and had no connection to him that would cause him to feel particular suffering, beyond general grief for a stranger.

But today was different. He shook off the haze, the pounding in his skull, and shoved Jaren aside as he approached the hanging body of his commanding officer, almost hesitant... then he stormed across the room to start hauling drawers out of desks, looking for something, any-- a letter opener! It would do.

Within seconds, he'd righted the chair, and carefully, wobbling a bit, managed to climb up onto it, and reached up to grasp the rope. "Nobody come help me get th'man down or anythin'," he grunted, sawing at the rope with the dull, but nonetheless edged tool. Once the rope was cut, and Dietrich, with the help of two others, had gotten Wallace laid out on the floor, the fighter knelt and touched the man's gleaming forehead before carefully pulling his eyelids closed.

"Naga take you," he murmured softly before standing and casting a glare at his accuser at last.

"This man was my commanding officer," he growled, "And my teacher." He sat down slowly in the chair that Wallace had used to commit his suicide, and rubbed his face. "Look, I know I... drink. A lot. But that ain't mean I'd take my axe to a tree. Ain't made for that. Just 'cause I use an axe, it don't make a lumberjack." And of course, Dietrich was also uninjured.

"Look, I dunno what went down. Mebbe the General did accidentally kill that dragon fella. Coulda happened, he's damn strong." He crossed his arms. "But he ain't a coward. He wouldn't never take the easy way out. This was murder, alright, but don't you go ********' assumin' you know me. 'Sides, I can only read an' write Isaacian. Now 'stead of pointin' fingers, maybe we actually wanna look at ********' clues, eh? Not random guessin'."

He sat back slowly, taking a long, deep breath. "Why don' we start by askin' who'd want the Gen'ral dead so bad, they'd kill another man an' frame him for it?"
PostPosted: Fri Oct 21, 2011 10:38 am

Blossom quietly helped Dietrich in the process of taking Wallace down from the ceiling. She didn't have nearly the strength of the Fighter, but she could at least keep the chair sturdy and help him lay the General out in at least a somewhat-dignified position. Blossom closed her eyes and whispered a prayer softly over his body, ending with "Elimine's grace be with you."

She looked back to Dietrich. His comments would have made more sense if Dietrich had shown any indication as having previously fought someone, or even signs of having to exert himself previously. "The body's still warm. This had to have happened very recently." She looked from Dietrich to Jaren, noticing the bubbles rising before looking at the body again. "I don't think we can rule anyone out yet, Jaren. If you want to help find the killer, then... could you help me with this, maybe? We need to see if there are any signs of struggle on him, it'd indicate if he truly committed suicide or if someone killed him and posed it as a suicide."

She paused, then added, "And not just who would want him dead, who would try to frame Vaida?"

"Settle down, guys" Ephraim called from behind the crowd, it was just after Dietrich had gotten the body down. He had gotten to the scene rather late, but he heard the scream non the less. By the time he had even gotten there, nearly everybody was in an emotional wreck. Screaming accusations at each other, calling the others a murderer, questioning where a particular person was at the time of the murder and then the accused cursing out the one who accused him of this murder. It was a mess.

Since he had just been outside thanks to Innes in his usual habit to challenge him to a duel every time, the lancer had a small hand towel hang over his shoulder. "If we're all here spouting accusations at each other, more or less screaming back claiming yourself innocent, then we're never going to get anywhere. How do we know that the killer didn't just want someone dead and place the blame on him or her?" What's more, someone that was dear to some people here wanted their time to at least mourn the death of their general or fellow comrade. Ephraim had a hand on his chin once more, giving this some thought as to why and how.

It was then that stupid...Jaren broke the silence once more into his hypertastic outburst. If anybody payed close attention, one could see a sudden vein pop out of the lancer's head. Ephraim sighed, shook his head then walked up to Jaren, giving him a nice clean SLAP across the face. "Shut up, I think you've done enough damage. Don't go spouting random accusations when you don't have the evidence to back it up."

The butler listened intently. "Hm. Young man, you do realize that we do carry axes in a shed outside for landscaping purposes, yes? Anybody can pick up an axe and cut down a tree. If persistent about one needing skill with an axe, does not the Captain have such skill with axes? Also, if I do recall, the note does not say that they fought- merely that the challenge was issued, there was miscommunication, tempers flared, and the man lost his head. If the laguz was as peaceful as others seem to think, he likely would not have transformed. But, the Captain could easily have lunged and perhaps strangled the laguz, before the laguz even had a chance to transform. Evidence of this would likely be concealed by the crushing from the tree. Plus, don't you share a room with the deceased? Should that make you just as suspicious, by your own logic?"

marshmallow kitty

The butler tilted his head. "Well, I don't know how well you know him, miss, but he has a very prominent reputation for being hot under the collar. At least from what I have heard. Also this note is hardly written stylishly from my experience... forgive me, if the way I read it aloud made it out differently than it is on paper. But you are correct, from his reputation, I would not think writing to be his strong-suit- which is why, I find nothing strange about it being written sloppily and with spelling errors. We don't like to think that men can go too far and make mistakes, but it happens. Also, seeing if he died before he was hung will be hard to determine unless there is a fatal blow on his body. Any other wound could have come from his confrontation with the laguz."

xDemonhornzx

The butler blinked. "Are you so sure? Knights are rather dependent on their honor. The disgraceful act of accidentally murdering somebody could easily sink a knight into a depression that could cause him to commit suicide. To them, a man without honor is no man at all. I don't know the Captain too well, perhaps you do, but I don't see how him committing suicide is impossible."

Ganon Firenight

"That is assuming this act was an easy one for him to make..." the butler said lowly. "By this note, I would say that his state of mind was quite heavy and dark."

Once the body was taken down, the butler leaned in for a closer look. "Is that- yes, bruising around his eyes? ...That may explain why he was wearing dark spectacles this morning." The butler turned back to Jaren. "So much for your theory of this man not having any wounds. There may even be more such bruises on the rest of his body." The butler turned and nodded at Blossom, as she seemed to have the right idea.

"Nevertheless, this boy has made a serious accusation. Despite his flawed logic and lack of evidence, who here agrees that this man [Dietrich] murdered Captain Wallace?" [Please give straight answers]

Blossom looked back at Wallace, biting her lower lip. "We fought together in a war, and before that to quell a rebellion. We weren't friends, per se, but I've also been fighting under the Guard here in Learania, and... y-yeah. He's-- he had a temper. But I can't see it causing him to take another's life for such a transparent cause." She looked up to Dietrich, then to the butler as he leaned down in order to examine the body more effectively.

The little Hero looked to the others, then to Jaren, keeping her position near Wallace. "I don't know. I don't know who could have killed Wallace, or why, or why he was in here. I don't think we have enough information yet to claim anyone here did this, and I don't think right now that Dietrich did it. The information doesn't all sync up, and I like to think Dietrich wouldn't go and kill his commanding officer for seemingly no reason. Right now I think it's more important we figure out how he died, if someone tried to pose him as having suicided..." Blossom looked back at Wallace, gently touching the bruising near his eyes. "Who else was in Wallace's room? His things might have an example of his handwriting. We can compare it to the note that was left in here. Can someone else help me check him for more bruising...?"

[[official answer: No, do not agree, not enough evidence to support the claim.]]

Legault paused in contemplation for a moment, looking over at Dietrich to help himself come to a decision. "Hm. Something about this being a suicide doesn't feel right to me...but I don't believe there's enough evidence to implicate anyone just yet."

Having said that, Legault made his way to the deceased Wallace's side and bent down to examine the body more closely. "...Anyway, I'll help," he told Blossom, casting a pitying glance at the corpse before taking out one of his knives. At least he knew that she agreed with his thoughts on Wallace's character, having served under Eliwood as well.

He decided to start with the gaudy shirt the former knight of Caelin was wearing. Starting from the neckline, he cut away the fabric quickly and cleanly to expose the chest. Legault couldn't help but feel uncomfortable as he went about doing this, but the alternative of slipping off the clothing as a parent would a child that didn't know how to dress him or herself didn't much appeal to him either. He figured this would be slightly more dignified. When he was finished, the front part of the shirt was torn away and the corpse's torso was exposed.

There definitely wasn't enough evidence to say who could be pinned or suspected as the killer. For the time being, there were two in question for Ephraim...however, if what Dietrich said was true, then that crossed out his first suspect...but he couldn't rule him out just yet. What if they found enough evidence and it was him? There's no telling anything right now.

Ephraim shook his head. "Although his theory is...surprisingly detailed...I don't think a pupil will have any reason to murder his master for no reason." This Ephraim knew all too well. But then popped the same question he thought to himself...who and why.

(( Nope. Its just facts, nothing really to back up the claims. ))

"Frame me?!" Vaida shouted. "Why not him, it's his room, too!" She spouted, pointing at Legault. "Grahhh nevermind!!" She looked at Wallace's body. "You pathetic coward! If you make a mistake, you own up to it, you don't throw your life away! 'Relief from this agonizing defeat in death'? Pah! Stupid male logic!! You always were a buffoon! Always picking fights, always getting lost, being late!" She kept herself from punching the wall and instead snatched the note and looked it over. "...Hell if I know his hand, looks like it is to me!" She tossed the paper away. "Unbelievable... No, I don't think this drunkard did it! It's painfully obvious what happened!!" She growled and then shoved people aside as she stormed out of the room. She was obviously a little distraught and not thinking clearly.
