...No matter how many times it took.
She was clearly struggling a little with the task, but the expression on her face was determined.

And suddenly, Xiu realized what she had been doing wrong. She had been approaching this intimidation task as if she was pulling teeth, her lips pursed and brows furrowed in concentration. However, while it did take focus, wasn't channeling FEAR supposed to be a somewhat natural ability as well? When this realization dawned on her, the Baku paused to relax and take a deep breath. As Riley had said, they shouldn't think of it as intimidation, but simply channeling their FEAR to surround their target.
Turning her gaze back to the cephalato, Xiu focused on doing exactly that, her expression and body far less tense as it had been previous. Like magic, after a few moments passed, the mini began to do what it had done in Riley's hands, melting in her arms.
This lasted for some time until Xiu finally broke free and stopped channeling. Her expression was blank as she watched the mini return back to it's original shape, but then she suddenly grinned.
Had she done it?

Riley chuckled darkly, her hand reaching out to rest on Xiu's shoulder. You've discovered how easy it is to channel your Fear, but.. She tried not to lift her face in amusement. You forgot to take advantage of that moment and intimidate the pet. Still, channeling your Fear should now come to you as second nature. You may practice the technique as many times as you wish while Mitsu continues to work on it.

Mitsu tried to take in the new information, she really did. It made sense in her mind ....sort of. Okay so many she still didn't get it. She was feeling rather disheartened the thought of making Riley upset still pressing in around her. It was distracting to say the least.

There was a small sense of realization the longer Mitsu stared at the small creature in her arms. Like the light at the end of a tunnel. She just managed to touch the information in her mind, her fear starting to gather as her gaze bored down into the little creature in her arms. It wasn't nearly as intimidated as it could have been but much like Riley's and Xiu's it began to lose shape and flatten in her hands.
But as soon as the understanding had hit her it was gone. She had shown the potential but only for a brief second. It was going take a bit of practice but she was on the right track.

Riley carefully retrieved both of the minipets, which looked as though they were melting in her hands, and turned to put them away.
That was a successful attempt. For both of you. I trust that now you have an inkling as to what you were missing in class, so that you have the chance to hone your abilities when you practice in private?
She returned, minipetless, and crossed her arms in front of them.
If there was any doubt she was still hurt by their actions, her tight stature dispelled them.

Mitsu held up the mini pet as Riley came to retrieve it. She had managed to touch on what she had needed to do it would just take practice from here. Nodding to the mindflayer, Mitsu took a sheepish step back as she put the pets away, looking to Xiu wondering if there was something they should do to make up for their mistake.
It was hard to say if Riley was still upset, she had said nothing more about it and her expression gave nothing away. Maybe she just wanted them to leave? "T-thank you Riley. For taking the time to teach us." Mitsu bowed slightly in respect, a habit she was picking up from a certain reaper. "I apologize again...for lying."

Xiu bowed as well, her ears and tails drooping. "Y-yes. We...we really shouldn't have. After you kindly took us on..." She trailed off. The baku was still feeling guilty, and it was clear that Mitsu felt the same way.
After she straightened up, a determined expression crossed her face and she nodded furiously. "I'll practice a lot! Maybe Mitsu and I could practice together sometime too." She glanced over towards the Lycan questioningly, and then looked back to the mindflayer, bending down in another bow. "T-thank you for your help, Riley!"
