Riley bit her lip, hesitant to move forward. "That would just trap us more. Unless it's an extensive tunnel system, but if you aren't intimately familiar with it we could get lost and die. Not to mention predators hide in caves too."
She looked over her shoulder, in the direction of the plains she had come from. "It might be safer back that way," she said, looking at El. "Even being in the forest would be safer. Not unless, like I said, you're very familar with the caves."

El shook his head, "No I don't know the caves that well." He frowned. It was a good thing that she mentioned it, because he wouldn't have made that connection until they were most likely lost in the caverns. "Alright...where do you think we should go?" He looked around them slightly on edge on. He wanted to be ready in case anything threatened him or Riley.
"The plains wouldn't provide much cover, so we would be exposed. But so would whatever is out there....but the forest...there is more cover, but we might not see the creature until it's too late."

((I thought of a way to comically end the situation. Might give El a heart attack though XD Have anything in mind yourself, or want me to go for it?))
Riley chewed on her lower lip, moving a bit closer to El and puffing herself up to seem bigger. Unless whatever it was that was putting her on edge had a larger force, even the biggest predator would be hesitant to take on two adult Modifoxes.
Unless the predator was so hungry as to be desperate...
"Head deeper, to the thicker part of the forest," she finally decided, laying her thoughts out aloud. "If something's watching us and it's faster, it would just run us down on the plains. Rather not take the chance. Thicker forest with smaller trees and more underbrush would slow down a huge predator and give us more places to hide."
She chanced looking away from the forest and at El. "Sound like a plan?"

"Head deeper." El followed the sense of logic in her statement. it made the most sense. If they were in the forest then the trees would offer some protection, if nothing else but to slow the predator down and not allow it to pounce on them unawares.
"Sounds like a plan to me." He nodded his head, "Come on...." he looked behind him, perking his ears to the side trying to listen. But the forest was still silent as ever. Eerie silent.
"I don't like how quiet it is. It's unnerving Riley." El shook his head, then with slow, even motions moved toward the forest.
(go with your idea...i bet it will be funny XD)

Riley opened her mouth to answer, and was interrupted by the crashing sound of something huge falling through the branches. There was a high-pitch screeching sound. Before Riley had time to look up, she found herself pinned quite firmly to the ground.
She glanced up to see a bright blue leg, shot through with lightning-like designs of green. Oooooh, she was so going to kill someone for this. She was sure that if she was in the position to look a bit higher, she'd see something like..."Got yoooou," Kiyo crooned, voice quite happy for someone facing imminent death from the friend pinned underneath him.

He was fine. Yep. Perfectly, completely fine. Nothing was wrong. He could handle it. El wasn't going to freak out. Not going to freak out. That lasted about five seconds before his eyes bugged out of his head, his tail twitched and his mouth contorted. "Bahhh!" He screeched and launched himself at the larger creature.
"Get off of her!" He growled and beat on the back of the blue monstrosity so that it wouldn't be able to hurt Riley.

Kiyo screeched and leapt away from Riley, flapping his wings furiously and trying to get the angry thing off his back.
El wasn't hurting him, he was just a big baby.
"Rrriley, help," he called piteously, looking at her with huge green eyes. "Horrrned thing isss trying to eat me!"
Riley snorted, standing up and shaking out her fur. "Idiot, you deserve to get eaten. How many times have I told you not to land on me like that."
How the hell did he pout like that? Seriously, he had a beak for crying out loud! Beaks shouldn't be able to pout...
Riley sighed loudly, rolling her eyes. "El's got better taste than to eat you, dummy." She looked at El, golden eyes filled with apology. "I'm soooo sorry! I mean I told you Kiyo was a bit eccentric, but if I thought he'd show up like that I would have been a bit more detailed."

El furrowed his brow when the large creature started screaming like a child. What...the....hell? This creature twice his size, was terrified of him? Little him?
"This is Kiyo?" The elk looking fox looked at the tall Guardian and looked him up and down, "So he wasn't attacking you." He frowned, then looked at Riley, "Why did he tackle you? He could have crushed you. It was reckless." He turned a glare to the screeching Guardian.

Kiyo instantly switched tactics, folding his shimmering blue wings to his back and pulling his chin in, making clicking noises with his beak. He didn't look at all contrite.
"Hurrrr, I am alwaysss verrry carrreful when I do aerrrial pinsss. I would not have hurrrt Rrriley unlessss I meant to."
Riley rolled her eyes. "I hope you don't do that to kits. I might be big enough to handle your playing, but you'd traumatize a baby." She gazed sternly at Kiyo, causing him to tuck his chin further and click some more. Ah well, at least he looked a little more ashamed.
She looked at El, gaze softening as it transfered. "Yup, this is Kiyo. El, Kiyo. Kiyo, this is El."

El glared at the pathetic guardian. What...the...hell. The creature was twice his size but acted like a pouting kit. And something about the way he talked annoyed the elk fox. "Oh stop blubbering you big baby. I barely hurt you, and you deserve a good tongue lashing for your behavior. I don't ever want to see you tackling Riley like that again. One of these times you could really hurt her." He gave the guardian his most piercing, evil glare.

Kiyo jerked his head up, looking mildly affronted. "I am not a baby. Babies arrre sssmall and fluffy. I am quite larrrge and not at all fluffy. Therrre isss a differrrence," he said, as though explaining something very simple. He turned his head and looked at Riley. "Horrrned fox isss not verrry sssmarrrt if he thinksss I am a baby."
"His name isn't "horned fox", it's El," Riley said, sighing. This was seriously starting to feel like a sibling rivalry. Well at least El wasn't running away in terror or dropping dead from a heart attack. That would have been quite a bit awkward!
She turned her attention to El, knowing that in the case of Kiyo it was sort of a lost cause trying to reason with him. He always played dumb though, and she was sure it was playing and not genuine confusion cause he always got that little twinkle in his eye that got more pronounced the more annoyed she got.
"Best thing to do is ignore him, El. I think the big lug gets some kind of perverse glee in making others scold him." She tilted her head, eyes twinkling with her own bit of planned mischief. "Actually, who were we ignoring again? I seem to recall there was someone here, but now I just can't seem to remember. Was there someone we were trying to ignore, El?"
((lol Basicly she's trying to clue El in to play silent treatment with her. Pretend Kiyo isn't there and all, no matter what he says or does. Sadly, it works on him OTL))

Ignore him? Ignore him? Was Riley serious? How in the hell was he supposed to do that when the Guardian was being so damn....annoying. But what the hell. He would go along with her little scheme. If it pissed off the overgrown child, then even better.
"Beats the hell out of me." El looked at Riley and smiled, "Hey I'm thirsty. Wanna go down to the lake to get a sip of water?" He inclined his head to the right.

"Sounds good to me," Riley said, amusement lighting up her eyes. "Why don't you lead the way, I don't know the land like you do." She trotted over to stand by El, waiting for him to start walking, pretending like Kiyo wasn't there. Not even a flicker of her eyes to betray her.
Kiyo clicked his beak in irritation. He hated Riley's silent game. He'd tried to outlast her once. How did something so straightforward and tiny have so much perserverence in her?
"Fine," he grouched, turning around. "I will go out and have fun, and meet sssome interrresssting people, and find some rrreally tasssty food and won't sssharrre any of it. Ssso therrre." He stuck out his tongue at Riley, then lauched himself back into the sky.
Two could play at the silent game!

El smiled as he nodded his head, "Sure thing. This way." The antler fox walked off down the small slope into the forest. It wasn't easy for him to ignore the huge creature behind him, but it was slightly funny. It seemed that the Guardian was getting really irritated by the fact that Riley was the one that came up with the game.
"After we get some water, I say that we go hunting. I'm starving." He smiled.

Riley nodded, trotting along at El's side. "Sounds good to me."
She glanced up at the sky where the small speck of bright blue and green signified Kiyo's presence. "He'll be back," she said, looking back down at El and shrugging. "He never stays in a grumpy mood for long. I'd bet he waits 'til we find water and comes splashing down to get us wet." She grinned. "Childish is Kiyo's method of choice."
