I don't know what kind of trick it is. She whispered carefully, noting exactly when it was obvious that he had opened his eyes, and when they had closed again. What I do know, is that this path is safer if we're not looking. Therefore, I propose..

She pulled away just slightly, but her hand remained firm on his arm. The other arm reached out to the side. We walk blind.

It sounded almost as dangerous as walking through the changing forest, and she really didn't sound very sure of herself, but for the time being, it felt like the only possible answer..

We'll have to open our eyes every so often to check the road ahead.. and make sure we're not walking into any traps. She sighed softly, hating this idea already. But it might be the only way.

Frowning at the proposition, Jericho supposed that was the only way they could really go about this. Letting out a sigh, he nodded, not that Riley could see that at the moment.

"Alright... lets do this. I guess.. we'll take turns opening our eyes to check on stuff then," he suggested as he carefully started to walk forward. One arm gripped onto Riley so that he wouldn't lose her. The other was feeling out ahead so that he wouldn't walk into anything. He kept his wings tucked back and his steps were cautious, should there be any sudden dips in the road or rogue branches out in his path.

"I hope this part of the forest isn't all too big.." he murmured.

There was no way of telling how long they would walk in this manner, but Riley's patience stretched far when it came to keeping them safe. Every so often she would squeeze his arm and tell him she was going to look, and every time she did, the path seemed neverending. As soon as the scenery began to encroach upon them, her eyes shut closed tightly once more, and they slowly inched onward. She kept light conversation with her best friend, in an effort to keep them from losing their minds during the long journey.

Their slow crawl took the entire day from them, but eventually they were rewarded. Riley opened her eyes one more time, and instead of the endless path, she finally saw something different - up ahead, a mound of land surged upwards. It.. almost looked like a mountain.. except it was too round, too perfect. Nonetheless, she was sure that was their destination.

Not too long now. She murmured, closing her eyes quickly. If you want to, take a look.

It seemed to be forever, but Jericho tried not to start getting impatient. It was better to be safe than to be hasty. The light conversation helped though, with keeping him from getting too restless. Every time he felt that light squeeze, he paused, prepared for anything that might happen to his best friend.

By the end of the day, the dragon went ahead and peeked when Riley said it was alright. It took a moment for his eyes to adjust, seeing how he hadn't really been using them for the past few hours. But when they did, he saw the mound up ahead. It was a strange looking mountain to be certain, but it was more of a destination landmark than anything they had seen before.

Closing his eyes again, he let out a breath.

"Thank Jack. It's about time," he said, "I've had just about enough of this blasted forest."

When she heard the sound of rushing water, it was her first clue to open her eyes again. Still, she didn't see where the source for the sound was coming from, though her eyes strayed over to where she knew the river to be. It looked like the river abruptly ended at some point nearby, but it was unclear as to why.

I hear water, but I don't know where it's-

Riley's voice abruptly stopped, and her hand slipped away from Jericho, just long enough to push him back a few steps hard. When he opened his eyes to check why, he wouldn't necessary see her - at least, not most of her.

Just her fingers.

So, I think Falling Falls aren't so much falls, as an indistinguishable crack in the world. She muttered in a foul mood, as she hung on for her life, dangling in a crevice that had gone unnoticed until she'd fallen into it. The walls of the canyon were smooth and colored exactly like the ground they had been walking on - making for a visual illusion that had them walking up to the canyon's edge without even realizing it.

It didn't help that they'd had their eyes closed, either.

A little help, please? The ground around her fingers crumbled.

Even though he heard the water, Jericho didn't open his eyes just yet. However, when Riley suddenly slipped away, they opened quickly and tried to look around. Once he had regained his balance, he glanced down to see that she was hanging onto the edge of what... appeared to be a cliff? It looked just like their surroundings though! That was one hell of a perspective trick.

Quickly, he reached down to pull the Mindflayer back up to safety.

"Yeah no kidding. That's... really kind of weird though. Then again this whole area is full of its own tricks it seems..." he murmured while peering over the edge carefully to try and see if he could spot the bottom at all."

Throwing away all regard for their care with keeping their eyes closed, she took a few deep, calming breaths and glared down at the cavern herself. The water from the river was flowing down the edge, but the bottom was nowhere to be seen. She did not want to find out from personal experience where it ended.

When she could stand again, she immediately tried to reach her foot out to touch the other end of the cavern - it only looked as far as two feet. Her hand gripped tight on Jericho when her foot met nothing but air, where she could have sworn there was land.

Tricks, indeed. I guess I can't actually tell how wide this is. Want to try flying over it?

When Riley was testing the area, Jericho made sure he had a good grip onto her just in case she slipped again. He saw her foot go 'through' the ground as she poked it out. There wasn't really any telling how far this canyon stretched.

"Yeah. I don't think we can get around it otherwise... I just.. hope I don't end up flying into a wall," the dragon said, "Mind if I stay in my humanoid for this? There's no telling how tight this area might be. It might be easier if I'm smaller while going through the area.."

Quite frankly, he wasn't sure which would be better. Both forms seemed to have potential issues.

Riley's arm slid around Jericho's neck, settling against him. I don't mind whatever form you wish to try this in. You're the one who has to deal with the burden of me, after all. She chuckled gently. I would apologize, but this was all your idea. So I won't.

She chanced one quick glance at the canyon, before settling her head on his shoulder. Just be careful. I don't trust anything here, anymore.

With a sort of smile, Jericho nodded to Riley while making sure he had a good hold on her. Taking in a breath, he stared out at the canyon before launching himself ahead. The dragon expected his perspective to shift as he moved ahead, but it didn't. At least... not in the way he would have thought.

He could see the far edge ahead, but it didn't really ever seem to get closer. Furrowing his brow, he tried to pick up some speed to close the gap more, but that did no help at all. After a good few minutes of this, he just stopped, staring hard at the far edge.

"I don't think this is working," he said unhappily. Shaking his head, the dragon turned around to head back to the side they had started on. They were going to need to find another way around if possible.

She was watching, even as he carried her acros the cavern, and she almost instantly realized something was wrong. When his words echoed her thoughts, she sighed. Nothing will be easy here. She grumbled, as she glared down into the cavern and briefly considered the climb down. Even as she did so, the cavern seemed to yawn at her, becoming even more impossibly deeper.

Of course, it seemed too easy to think that the same curse they had been dealing with before was still in effect now, but..

..Turn around. I have an idea. And somehow, I kind of hope it is wrong.

"Alright," murmured the dragon as he turned around in the air. If the same sort of trick was at play here, it would be considerably more difficult to go ahead. Flying blind was a lot riskier than walking blind after all. It was too bad he was unable to do any sort of echolocation. Then again, this area might screw with that sort of ability as well. It was hard to say for certain.

"Now what?"

Once they landed, she gave him a knowing look. I bet you can guess what I'm about to suggest, as much as I dread it. Her eyes closed, and she pressed even firmer against him. Close your eyes, and give it a few moments.. then fly, and hope for the best.

This was such a bad idea.
PostPosted: Tue Aug 09, 2011 6:45 pm

It was as he feared. Frowning, Jericho anxiously looked over in the distance before taking in a deep breath.

"A-alright... I'll give it a shot. By Tiamat's horde, I hope this goes well," he murmured before taking flight again, shutting his eyes as he did so. There wasn't really much of a way to tell if he was staying level, so he just kind of slowly flew ahead. He did not want to go full speed into a rock wall after all. And with his eyes shut, he'd never see it coming.. literally.

The dragon held onto Riley tightly as he did this, being fairly tense at the same time.

She felt the lift, and the instinct to open her eyes was strong. She fought it by squeezing them, and clinging tighter to her companion. After at least a full minute of flying, she finally gave in and said it.

Okay. It's time to test my theory. In the worst way possible. She chuckled weakly. Try to blindly land on ground that may or may not be there. Slowly, just feel your way down. If you feel like you've gone too far... then I suppose we'll know we've failed, won't we?
