Sitting in the furthest bench the rival could get to on campus with out being to far from the buildings. No training, no fighting, she wondered why they even let her move. Currently she was enjoying the weather outside. Every once in a while a breeze would blow and petals of different color's would rain down on her. Turning a page in the a book that she was reading.
Her mind was filled with the book, and she just kept reading. Hoping that it would speed up time and let her go back to class. She was sick if sitting inside in her room. Outside she had a chance to make contact. Even if it was just a glare from the to skinny girls that ran past her. Did people really see her as that cruel.
Marking her page she set it next to her. Another gust of wind more petals fell down from the trees. Holding her hands out, it was like it was snowing. Only in a rainbow of colors. Knowing that she was alone she giggled as she gathered and hands full throwing them back into the wind.

"Hey Shinta!" a voice called out. The runner turned his head to look out at the adjoining field that served as both football field and park. The voice was one of his classmates, though he couldn't remember his name.
"Good morning," he replied between breathes. Running up with a paper in his hand, the anonymous classmate handed over the note to Shinta who slowed but didn't stop his jog. Holding the paper before him, he studies the letter as he jogs in place.
"What!?!!" he cried, stopping his movements abruptly. "When did this come in?"
"Just a few minutes ago. They say it's hot news," the nameless boy admitted with a blush.
"Well. . . I don't know what to say. Thanks a lot Minato," he growled. Shinta realized then that he had remembered the guys name.
"Hey don't blame me. I'm just the messenger. Remember that," the boy yelled mockingly as he ran back to the cluster of buildings across from the field.
"Damn," Shinta muttered as he looked at the boys retreating form. Then movement caught his eye. His breathe hitched in his chest. It was her. Yuukie was lifting her hands to catch petals from the trees. The sight made him blush even from so far away. But he had more pressing problems at the moment, much to his chagrin.
"Damn," he growled again as he resumed his jogging. He needed to pound out the problem and was glad he only had two laps to go. Cause each time he thought he had a grasp of what to do, his mind kept wandering back to the girl on the bench.

Yuukie didn't notice Shinta until his last lap around. Having just looked up to catch petals. Giving a friendly smile she wave at him. In all truth she wanted him to come sit with her, but she knew that wasn't going to happen.
So she picked her book back up and began to read again, so when he passed by her, he couldn't she her disappointment. Even from this far away she could tell he had been running for a few laps. Someone like him didn't just get out of breath on the first lap.
If he didn't want to talk to her, he didn't have to. Still she had to admit she was lonely. No one visited her except for him, and she began to wonder if it was because he felt guilty.
Not wanting to be depressed again she pick her book up. She was just going to back to her room. There was no reason for her to just sit her hoping someone would come talk to her. Even the boy she liked didn't like her back. So there just wasn't a point.

(Your inner turmoil is showing again. XD) As Shinta rounded the last curve, he slowed just enough to grab his duffle bag before cutting straight across the field towards the far buildings. The bench where he saw Yuukie was empty, but before he could get disheartened he saw her. Slowly walking down the path.
"Hey," he greeted as he pulled up beside her. Unzipping his bag, he pulled out one of several water bottles he always carried and snapped the top back to take a drink. The motion wasn't as smooth as if he had done it with his left hand, but he was getting better. Said hand stayed in its sling, relaxed against his side.
"I need to talk to you," he said after gulping back a few mouthfuls. " It's about the tournament next month. The one that we are suppose to be demonstrators for."
It was tradition that the top two fighters in the school acted as demonstrators at the beginning of the tournament. It was a source of pride for the school and as a lure for any new students who may be interested in becoming part of the student body next fiscal year. This year, Shinta and Yuukie had been asked to have the honored positions.

Yuukie stopped dead in her tracks. Her eyes were wide as he spoke about the tournament. "Please tell me I wasn't replace. Please oh please don't tell me I wasn't."
Yuukie had been looking forward to the tournament for weeks now. Looking down at the ground she was slightly panicking. "I've been working since freshmen year to be a demonstrator. Master knows I'll be healed up in like a week right."
Actually she didn't know how long it would take, she figured if she kept saying a week. It would only be a week. Biting her lip she looked at him. No longer did she worry about anything else.
"Master has told me I would get the spot if I stayed until junior year. I've looked forward to this since I was 17. He can't give my spot to someone else, I've worked to hard for this."

Shinta couldn't help the lighthearted laugh at her panicked expression. Really, he thought. She was just too cute like that, with her eyes all big and her face flushed.
"Shouldn't your main concern be the proper healing of your ribs? Being a demonstrator isn't that important if you can't even fight without making your injuries worse," he chided with a chuckle. Then his eyes lowered to his arm, a shadow passing over his expression before he brightened again.
"Nope, worse. He said that we will both be replaced if we are not ready to perform," Shinta says in his most cheery voice. Inside, he was cursing his master yet again for the whole situation. It was his fault, having them do a hard core duel to see if they were ready for the demonstration when they should have been resting and preparing for it. Now they were on a time clock.
If they weren't healed up before the deadline, the student council would have to find a replacement pair. Because most fighters were matched with someone of equal skill level. That way they could build off one another as they advanced in experience. If one of the pair falls, the other is doomed to fail as well until a new partner is established. So demonstrators were always the best pair in the school, or at least two fighters that were in sync with one another. Otherwise their fighting would not be smooth and easily watchable for spectators.
"We'll just have to work hard and hope that we heal before then," he agreed as he scratched his head, ruffling his lime green locks. "I'd not fancy missing out either."

"I don't care, this is like my dream. Forget healing properly. I just want to do this. Its not fair, he can't replace me." Yuukie wanted to cry, to scream anything that will keep her spot. Instead she reached up to carefully hug him.
"Thanks for telling me, but I need to say I'm sorry....I knew you blocked with you're left. I was just trying to bruise it, never did I want this to happen. Now you aren't going to get to fight either." Letting go of him she carefully back up. "I can't train anything other then my mind with this injury. I'm not allowed to walk for a long period of time."
"How long did he give us to heal." She asked looking at the ground. Surly Master wasn't serious about replacing them. After all she had been promised this spot.

Shinta froze as the girl beside him turned and wrapped her arms carefully around him. As she spoke he lowered his head, letting his lips press gently into her hair. He took in a short breath, just enough to get a whiff of her scent before she pulled away. Somehow, it helped him to feel more himself and less like the broken git that had been going through the last few days like a zombie. An awkward yet familiar smile brightened his face as he looked at her, his rival.
"I blame the rain myself, but if you feel you must shoulder the burden by all means," he teased sarcastically. "Then I shall have to repay you for hurting me so."
Steadily he continued to walk down the path.
"Until the match, of course. He'll have a back-up pair just in case, but he's confident that we'll be ready by then."

Yuukie smiled lightly as he told her they had until the match. Holding her book close to her she kept smiling. "That's some good news..." She muttered softly, she hadn't noticed she was following him. Not that she really cared at the moment.
"As long as you don't take advantage of the situation...I'll do anything you want okay." Another light smile as she walked. "I really meant what I said the other day, if you even remember that is." Blushing lightly as she looked down at the ground.

Looking back at her with a piercing gaze, he smiled deviously.
"So you say. Fine then, I shall hold you to it, " he replied to her willingness to make it up to him.
Shinta really hadn't blamed her for the injury, in fact if anybody he blamed himself. If only he hadn't been so careless and not taken the water into account, he would have been prepared to do something other than land so ungracefully on his dominant hand. But as it was, Shinta never let an opportunity to torment someone, his rival in particular, go to waste. Not that she wouldn't see it coming. And not that she could do anything to prevent it either.
(likewise. Muse has left me. It's been raining off and on the last few days. I'm used to it tho, but I want the sunshine back. It's summer for crying out loud!)

Smiling softly as they walked until they reached the buildings. Being younger then him, and never really hanging around people her age. Yuukie was a bit naive in several ways. Still she liked her rival, more then she would care to admit at the moment.
"Well I'm just going to head off to my room now. Going get some lunch later. It was nice seeing you again Shinta." Cringing slightly, she knew she could say something better then that, but she didn't let it show. Smiling she made a turn to head off to her dorm room. Feeling slightly like a starstruck school girl.
In all honesty she want to run off like a scared rabbit. She liked him, but he also kinda scared her. These were new feeling to her, and she didn't understand them fully. Still she was blushing slightly as she walked. Exactly like a starstruck schoolgirl. One could even say she was dazed slightly.

Shinta stood and watched her walk away, a smile tugging on his lips. Shifting his grip on his bag, he freed his hand long enough to give a single wave of farewell before walking in another direction. He didn't have any particular place to go, so aimlessly wandered the labyrinth of halls.
"Hmm. . . wonder how long it'll take," he chuckled softly. Yup, when in doubt make a bet with yourself, he thought. That always proves to keep things interesting. Laughing at his own childish antics, he continues to wander. All the while wondering just how long it would take. . . until she cracked and tried to kiss him.

Yuukie walked as fast as she could to the furthest empty hall way. Turning a corner she hide. Leaning against the wall she felt like she was having a panic attack. He remembered, if he was set on holding her to the deal...then he remembered what she said.
"Why'd I tell him.." Holding her book close she as could as if it was a shield. He was her rival, he just told her all that so he could get back at her. She had hurt his chances at being a demonstrator. It had all been a lie, and she fell for it. Now the joke was on her, she bet he was laughing with a group of his friends.
Dragging herself to a nearby bench she needed to lay down. Feeling absolutely sick at the moment. Yuukie tried to remember to breath. He was going to put up with it, then just embarrass her. Hearing footsteps she quickly busied herself in the book.
It wasn't fair, he could just make her feel like this. Getting so over hysterical caused her to choke slightly. Coughing, and couldn't believe she had him. He even told her he was going to torment her. Coughing continued, wincing slightly as she did so. She didn't want any of the to happen, and it all had.
((HAHA!!! I didn't fall for your trap Foxi. >: D))

(trap? What trap? >.> I see no trap here. <.< ))
The days slowly drifted by. One by one they flitted away until there was only a week before the demonstration.
Shinta sat on the dojo floor, gently unwrapping the bindings on his arm. The pain had all but gone. As he tested straightening his arm, the muscles pulled taught. A bit stiff, but a good workout would easily fix that. He only hoped that it wouldn't aggravate his elbow and make it swell as it was prone to do these last few weeks.
Walking through a few motions, he began warming up his muscles. It felt nice, being able to use his hand again.
"Wonder how Yuukie's doing," he murmured to himself as he worked. Her injuries had been a bit more delicate than his after all. Shinta tallied the times that similar thoughts had drifted into his mind. He wasn't sure if it was just because she was wounded and needed to rest, or if she was avoiding him, but he hadn't seen her since that day. Shoulder's slacking, he wondered what he could have said to make her avoid him, if that was the case.
Eyes widening, he remembered that day. The things that he said, did. Shoulder's tightening once more, he continued his warm up motions, a blush hidden beneath his flushed face. 'Throw yourself on a girl, and look what happens,' he thought in shame. 'This is why you said you weren't going to get involved with anyone.'

(( : p ))
Having been to the nurse's station to have her check up. She had been allowed to train only for two hours a day in the past week. Now she was allowed to go back to her normal schedule. She couldn't over do it thought.
Walking into the dojo, she was in her normal training gym cloths, rather then what she wore to class. So when she walked in early that morning that last person she expected to see was him. Almost dropping her bag, she cursed herself. At least he didn't see her. She had to train in the dojo to show the master, she was healthy again.
Having spent the last week mostly just stretching. She warmed up quickly still she continued to stretch until she knew she was ready to start her work out. Hissing slightly as her joints popped, yeah she had her work cut out for the next week. She would have to speak to him in the next few days. For the fact that he was still going to fight her in a weeks time.
She didn't dare face him, hoping he hand moved on to another prank. It wasn't funny to her thought. "I should have figured it out when you told me you where my Loki. I hope you had a nice laugh over it Shinta. Making the school's best female fighter look like an idiot. I hope you where given a wonderful prize for winning." Blowing a strand of hair out of her eyes she kept stretching. Referring to when she kissed because it was a tie, and to look forward to when he actually won.
Yuukie knew it was just letting him win even more when she confronted him about it. The maybe he would move on to someone else, and leave her alone. That's what she got for falling for her rival. She'd get over it in given time.
